Details are provided above.
Description of Work: The Sears (truck said A/E) repairman came out and told me that I needed to have my dryer vent cleaned, because his little device was showing "poor circulation" but nothing else. I asked if he could do it and he said no. I said that I thought the website where I troubleshooted and then made the appointment should list clogged vent under the "symptoms" that I provided, and that they should clearly state that their repairmen do not clean the vent/outlet. He agreed and charged me $110. The website said that a charge of $79.00 would be charged for coming out, and anything above that would require an estimate and my permission before proceeding. That is not what happened at all, and I did not care to argue with the man in my house while my dog was going bonkers and other people and things needed my attention.

Description of Work: The ice maker on my 2011 Samsung side by side stopped working. The Sears repair technician came on 4/4/13, poured some hot water through the ice maker, said the gears were frozen, that we'd have ice in 24-48 hours, and charged me $190. And gave me a 90 day guarantee. No ice was made. Another repairman came on 4/11/13, said the circuit board needed to be placed, they wouldn't charge me for labor but the part cost $180. I asked why the the first repairman didn't identify that as the problem and told them the $190 I'd paid could be used towards the the circuit board. After much arguing, the repairman's manager agree. The same repairman from the first vist came on 4/1913 to install the circuit board, said we'd have ice in 24-48 hours then tried to say we had a balance to pay. He left without giving me a receipt and I still don't have ice. I'm calling again and after this attempt will find someone else to fix the ice maker.

On the repairs for the dishwasher and refrigerator I had hoped they could send out one person for both repairs but they ended up having to send out two people. But in the repairs were done and done well.
Description of Work: I purchased a warranty on a dishwasher from them and had them come out and repair the dishwasher and refrigerator.

Terrible. This is the worst managed service I have ever come into contact with. They cannot even repair their own appliances. Our Kenmore dryer ceased functioning about a week before Thanksgiving. We called Sears repair service. The first tech that arrived (after a week) looked at the dryer, explained that it would be "pricey" to fix it, and that it would work fine if we just pushed the start button back and forth a bit instead of straight down. He demonstrated, then left. The dryer ceased functioning completely and permanently about the time his truck disappeared from sight. We called again, and after 10 days another repairman came out and spent a long time trying to convince us that "it would be cheaper to buy a new dryer" (it was absolutely not cheaper by several hundreds of dollars), and that repair could take a long time but "they'll deliver a new one tomorrow". When it became apparent we were not going to buy a new one, he reluctantly ordered a new part and said to call back when the part got here (of course charging us over $400 plus a service call immediately). The part arrived in a couple of days, but of course the next scheduled time for a tech to come was another 10 days in the future. When my husband looked into the "part" that had arrived, it turned out to be nothing but a plastic cover for a dryer door. Upon calling the service again, someone explained that that was the wrong part (ordered by their own repairman!!!!), and that another part would have to be ordered, and that ONLY AFTER THE PART ARRIVED could we even think about scheduling yet another repair visit (which would likely be ten days or so from the time of the call). WE ARE NOW WITHOUT A DRYER FOR OVER 30 DAYS AND COUNTING, plus so far out the $400+ cost of service calls. I don't know what ever happened to the Sears service ethic, but they should be ashamed to remain in business. SEARS SERVICE STINKS.
Description of Work: Repair our Kenmore dryer, which had stopped working due to a circuit board/control panel that needed to be replaced. The work was not completed.

Called SEARS repair to fix a Kenmore refrigerator that was not working. Repair window given was 1pm to 5pm. A call was recieved on the day of repair confirming that repair person would be out between 1 and 5; however, a second call came around 3pm saying there were delays and repair tech would be outside the window. When the repair tech arrived after 5pm, he did not introduce himself, walked in and proceeded to look at the appliance. The refrigerator was empty as it was not working - top freezer had items because it was working. He said in a rude commanding tone - the freeezer needs to be emptied. Not sure why he didn't just do it, but I emptied the freezer. He identified the issue - a faulty automatic defrost switch, printed up an estimate and asked me to sign, which I did. The part was $43. with labor at $197 - I asked how the labor charged was calculated (i.e. how much per half hour) and he said it's by the job. The "job" took less then 5 minutes to replace the part. At the end, he said I could pay my cash, check or credit card. I selected check and gave him a check with my name, phone number and home address imprinted. He said he would not take the check without my driver's license number on it. I do not have a driver's license. He said he would have to remove the part. I called SEARS customer service and was on hold for 25 minutes, when the repair tech annouced he could only wait another 4 minutes before leaving, and he would take the new part out. While I was on hold with the customer service, he had tried to contact a SEARS rep and could not. He stepped outside of my house and I locked the door because I felt threatened by his rude, hostile attitude. Finally, a customer rep answered. At this point, the repair tech was sitting in his car. The customer service tried to call the repair tech six times - four times he did not answer, then he hung up on her twice. She sent a message to his computer saying he was not allowed back on my property and she said a SEARS rep would call me to arrange for payment. Additionally, the customer service rep tried to call the repair tech's supervisor; however, she received a recording advising to call the number she was answering. Unbelievable experience. I explained to the repair tech and the customer service rep that I was a long time SEARS customer having purchased my stove, washer, dryer, refrigerator, microwave along with numerous other smaller items. Did not seem to matter.

They have done a pretty good job with our appliance repairs. They have pretty good guys. He didn't charge us because we have a warranty. He was a very nice man and he said we should use our warranty and get things checked out. It said that it happens a lot where the thing gets clogged and he said this is the place to look first. Last year we had someone come to check our stove, washer and dryer. They were very nice people. They came on time and gave us a few pointers to keep our appliances running well. They were very good. The warranty is only a good deal if you use it because it is expensive. They tell us what time they will be here ad if they say they will come between 8-10 they are always here between those times. They are vey clean and professional.
Description of Work: We used Sears for our dishwasher. The thing where it goes into the drain was clogged.
