I've been very pleased with his services. He is friendly yet professional and very polite. Friends and relatives who have seen his work at my home have asked who completed the jobs, and one friend consequently hired him to do work at her home and was pleased also. Mr. Samsky had to come back to redo the Restore on front porch and walk because of damage by unexpected snow and hail we experienced on March 17th. He came and spent entire Sunday (4/13) to make sure everything was done according to our agreements.
Description of Work: I have used Samsky's Services for various jobs over past 10 years. Mr. Samsky himself comes to do the jobs and once had another asst. w/him. If I have any concerns he addresses them ASAP. I can contact him via email or phone, which is great. The past job consisted of touching up paint and caulk around double garage door frame; installing a deck gate; fixing bedroom lamps; repairing wood pole and painting entire front porch, including ceiling; fixing a crack in front cement walk and then applying 2 coats of Restore compound to the front porch and walk.

Provider came to my house, examined the problem and stated that it would take only a few bolts to affix it back to the wall. He said that he needed the electric company to come and turn off the electricity. He said any morning the next week - as he would clear his schedule. He wanted it early in the AM. I scheduled Monday at 8:00 AM. He wrote me back that he would only be able to stay 30 minutes - if they did not come, he had a doctor's appt and he would have to leave. I called the electric company at 7:00 am to confirm, they said they might be late, so I told them to reschedule for Tuesday, so as not to interfere with John's appt. The electric company came at 7:30 am on Monday. I spoke to John and told him that I would call him back in just two minutes to make sure that all parties would be available now. He said fine, when I called his number several times, no answer. There never is an answer, so I assume that that is just a land based phone he does not use except to take messages. He obviously uses a cell phone on the road. I had made multiple phone calls to make sure all parties would not be inconvenienced and left him a message that I don't know why he never answers his phone. Here is the highly sarcastic message he left for me. I had used him several times in the past, and paid a very high sum for his services for bigger jobs, so I don't know why he was so nasty. Moreover, the electric company said his "fix" was highly inappropriate. It required an extension pipe and multiple other repairs to be properly attached. The company said it was potentially dangerous and that the repair suggested by John Samsky would never have worked. This was representative of the "good customer service" that John provides. I told him I was glad he was willing to put his words into writing so I could post it on Angies list. Debbie, I wasn't able to answer the phone when you called my office for two reasons-no one is in the office until 8:30, and I was on my way to your home to do the job. So I've got two trips to your home that took up a lot of my time, and of course was a total waste and unproductive for me. And of course you'll never find another contractor that will be at your beck and call for such a small job. So I'll live and learn. Respectfully, John Samsky Samsky's Home Services Virginia Licensed Contractor 703-791-5255 Office 703-909-3156 Cell jsamsky@aol.com Highest rating by www.checkbook.org and www.superpages.com. Response from Samsky's Home Services
Wow, I earned all A's from you when I responded to your frantic call within four hours regarding your door eerily opening and closing throughout the night. I installed a new lockset for little more than what it cost me. This was after I did a custom door installation for you and charged you half of what anyone else would have. I earned all F's when I showed up at your home when I said I would, told you it was a power company issue, but I would repair it when you said they wouldn't, but I had to have the power turned off first. This was supposedly arranged, according to your email, but then you frantically left me 4 messages and 2 emails, all within 15 minutes the morning the work was to take place. They were coming, they weren't coming, etc. Nevertheless I arrived and saw the boom truck in your driveway. I called you from my cell, which has always been on my email (as you copied), and was told that the power company worker would do the repair. I'm pretty sure I suggested that earlier. While I do quite a bit of free work, and advertise it on my website for people who can't afford to have repairs made, I don't like having my time wasted by someone who wants to have me at their beck and call, and expects me to be subservient to them under the threat of a bad review. I treat everyone with respect, but won't be your doormat. And of course you got your work done for free, and I charged you nothing for two trips to your home. You are correct in stating that I generally don't answer my office phone, because usually no one is in the office. We're all out working, but return all calls even if it's out of our work area or a type of work we don't do. If someone shows enough interest to call, I certainly show them appreciation and call them back. So you've accomplished what you wanted to do: made yourself feel powerful by butchering another contractor. Before long there will be no one left who will work for you.

We had gotten another estimate, at twice the cost, for the same work but it entailed a whole day's work, several workers and more than we thought necessary for a simple repair. Mr. Samsky approached the job with the intent of making it as simple and logical as possible. No major repairs were needed. The rotting board was removed, the new board cut and nailed, and necessary caulking applied to prevent further problems. He then proceeded to apply two coats of paint to the new wood. The whole process took less than three hours and has held up very well in the ensuing months. I'd certainly use Mr. Samsky again.
Description of Work: Replaced the rotting outside board surrounding the garage door frame, to match the original. Painted new wood with owner's paint to match.

I just had a licensed plumber tell me that Samsky did *not* solder the bathroom plumbing ... he *GLUED* the copper pipes together (and the plumber showed me) -- a DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. He also didn't seat the faucet properly and installed a gasket upside down, which ended up causing a leak that came through the ceiling below. The plumber told me that it was so bad (never seen anything like it!) that it was grounds for legal action. Prior to having the plumber out, I knew that I had been wronged by Samsky ... just didn't know the extent. I wish I could attribute it to plain old incompetence/ignorance, but sadly, I believe the shameful workmanship was motivated strictly by greed. The only thing he is good for is putting perfume on a pig. What a bad egg this guy is. But karma is a B, and he will undoubtedly reap what he sows eventually.

Response from Samsky's Home Services
This work was completed January 7, 2011, and not January of 2013. The total price was $3296, The scope of the work was to install a tub and surround in the hall bath, replace cabinet doors and lights in the hall bath and master bath, install new facets and shower heads in the hall bath and master bath, paint the cabinets in the hall bath and master bath, install a threshold in the hall bath, repair drywall in the linen closet, replace the diverter cartridge in the hall bath (the source of a leak),replace cabinet hardware in the hall bath and master bath, caulk master bath shower, and paint the hall bath. The price we offered was far less than other estimates, and since she had used us before, and obviously been happy, she used us again. We did not replace the diverter valve, so there was no "gluing" or soldering done by us. We started at the time both parties agreed to, and finished when we said we would, showing up a 9:30 every morning and working until 6. We made other repairs for her at no extra charge. At the end of the week, she was very happy with the work, paid us, and we were gone, She called me the next morning and was extremely upset that one cabinet knob was not perfectly centered. In a snowstorm I drove to her home and was there within an hour of her call, fixing the problem in five minutes. She sat on the floor crying the few minutes I was there, and when I asked what was wrong, she said that it was her house and if she wanted to cry that was up to her. When I left she said something to the effect of "thanks for coming over, I hope that we can still be friends, and no hard feelings". I never had any hard feelings, don't know why I would, and while I'm friendly to my customers, I don't think they or I consider us friends. She was one of many customers I try to do my best to make happy. Nothing more, nothing less.

John gave an estimate by email which turned out to be quite accurate (actually cost a little less). His pricing is fair, he shows up as scheduled, and does excellent work. He is dependable. I will use again if the need arises.

Very responsive, high quality service
Description of Work: Used John Samsky earlier in the year to install custom doors. He did an excellent job and it really helped with my energy bill. I experienced another emergency situation the other day, and as I had used him previously, he came right over to help me out - squeezing me into a very tight schedule. I am really grateful to him for his great customer service and always high quality work.
