An agent came to give me an estimate on Wednesday. When I asked when they could start the work, I was told that he would call me once he gets back to his office. I did not receive a phone call for two days. So on Friday I called the agent about the schedule and was told that he was not sure and had to call me back on following Monday to arrange schedule. On Monday, I received a bill from them. Even more, the bill was dated 09/15/2012, almost 3 months before I even knew the name of this company. Naturally, I called them and was told they would send me a corrected statement. About 10 days later, I still have not received it. So I called again today. They have now sent me an updated bill with a zero balance.
Description of Work: They provided me with an estimate for the job. But I did not have them do the job due to reasons described below.

I like the crew, one of which should have been in charge. They really wanted to make sure my home was safe.
Description of Work: I called Ross on 12/12 about trimming a large Oak that was posing a threat to my home. During the time the gentleman was here, I told him about my previous estimate of 800.00 dollars and was very surprised about how low his estimate was. Thinking I had been had by the other company, I offered the job to Ross. They came in on 12/13 on time. During the visit, I noticed the tree limb that I specifically wanted taken care was still there. I asked the little hispanic guys why this limb was still there. He told me the limbs was okay. I told him the limb was too close to the house and I was afraid of what would happen if there was a storm or snow. He told me then there was nothing wrong with the limb. He then told me I had another tree that was dead and needed to be taken care of but it would be another 175.00. I said okay, do what you have to do. They took the tree down. This took the invoice to 550.00. After they where finished, another gentleman came to me concerned about the limb hanging over my house. He told me how the limb was split and that it posed a major threat to my house. I called the little hispanic guy over again and told him to take the limb down. He told me then he had other jobs to do and if he did it would be another 450.00 dollars. I was really upset about this time. With the advise of the other guys on the crew, I called Greg, the gentleman that came over and gave the estimate. He didn't seem the least bit concern and stated that he had only estimated pruning the oak. Why would I ask him to just prune a tree when I specifically asked for the one limb to be taken care of? He then stated they could do the job with payment of the additional cost.I was then advised by the crew to call the owner Glen. He seemed really concern about my issue and stated he would come by to make the situation right. Glen came by later that afternoon with an associate Brian. It seemed to me that Glen had been briefed about my issues already so he knew the condition of the limb. This was not something we had discussed over the phone earlier. Anyway, to make a long story shorter, he came over and looked at the limb. He apologized and told me that the estimate was for pruning the tree but he purposed to do several other concerns in the yard in order to defuse the situation. He gave a list of things to be done to Brian and asked him to make sure they were done. Brian agreed to when the work would be done. In addition to one major issue I wanted to be taken care of Brian wanted to take on the rest of my pruning issues. He called on 12/14 and stated the price of what the overall job would cost with 20 percent off. I told Brian I could not commit to anything due to the fact this job could have already been finished by the other company. Now, I'm having to pay more out of pocket due to the fact this company misrepresented themselves. Brian, told me that they would be over later that day to finish the job. But if they could not it would be Monday the 17th but he would call. It's now 12/20/12. I have not heard anything back from this company. I don't know if the owner Glen is aware but how can I trust anything that was told me now. Glen to be was really concern about the integrity of his company. It's really sad...

It went very smoothly from start to finish. They gave us notice about the work. They set up in the morning and worked though the day. Da and Bryan and their team got the job done well and professionally, removing a large poplar from the yard behind us and out over our house to the street. They cleaned up after they left and came back the next day to make sure we were satisfied that everything was cleaned up properly.
Description of Work: Ross was a subcontractor working with Dominion Power to remove a huge poplar in the yard behind us. They had to go through our yard to get to it. We were not their direct client, our neighbor behind us was. But most of the work took place on our property. Dan and his crew were polite, informative and professional the entire time. The tree itself was a nightmare to remove, broken half way up and leaning into another problem tree and requiring a commercial crane to get it out. They handled the whole thing quickly and safely. I plan to hire them to remove one of mine next spring. I highly recommend them!

Description of Work: Called for an estimate to have a tree removed. They came promptly and looked at the tree and described perfectly what would be required to remove the tree from the yard. They will be sending an estimate to the owner of the house for the actual service and he will pay for this.

He did much better than the previous provider did. A great job! He even went back and fixed the stump that the previous provider said could not be ground down further due to the utility lines being so close by. I would definitely recommend him. At first he quoted a higher price, but when he hear our story, he was willing to do the work for the price we original paid for. He also came out very quickly when we called him.

The estimate was scheduled and the estimator came as arranged. After a careful walk of the property and discussion of what we wanted done, the estimator gave us a written estimate. He even mentioned Angie's List and another source for a coupon to get a discount. We needed a written plan and drawing for our HOA approval committee. This was done quickly and was very clear. After approval was given by the HOA the work was scheduled within 2 weeks. The crew came out on time and worked very hard all day at cutting and clearing up as they went. They even took care of some additional dead limbs that we hadn't originally discussed at no additional cost. I would definitely use them again.

The end result was satisfactory, which is why I gave them a B. I called for an estimate early the previous week, and though the receptionist indicated they'd send someone out soon, it was about 4 days later (on a Saturday) when the estimator (Greg) showed up. He specifically indicated they could trim the limb early the next week, most likely Tuesday. That fact, and the price being the same as another recent estimate, gave my choice to them. We specifically agreed on the proposal (in Greg's handwriting) that they would call the night before coming as I needed to make sure my neighbors moved their cars and let my wife know to have a check ready. Tuesday came and went, as did Wednesday. Thursday (9/27) they came without calling ahead, and sure enough my neighbor's car was parked in the way. Since my wife was home they never called me and trimmed only one fork off the limb, but took the $450 check from my wife, who I had never told about the tree-cutters coming. I came home to find them gone and only about 1/4 of the work that was contracted for actually done. [I knew from the other three estimates I had that $450 was clearly for removal of the whole limb, not one fork off of it.] I called and left messages on all three RTS phone numbers, as I was very upset. Because I couldn't get ahold of a live person, I called my bank and immediately stopped payment on the check. Mr. Ross personally called me back that evening, apologized for his folks not calling beforehand, and assured me a crew would return first thing in the morning. I arranged for time off from work on 9/28 to supervise, and I got my neighbors to move their cars. The team came out before 9am and told me that the reason they left the previous evening was that their chipper malfunctioned. (They didn't tell my wife that.) The team completed the work quickly, neatly, and professionally. I gave them a new check and called the main office to alert them to not try to negotiate the first (stopped) check. I want to emphasize that they get an A in Price and Quality. Because of that, and because they came right back to finish the job and clear up the misunderstanding, I would use them again and recommend Angie's List members do the same. But I am trying to accurately portray what happened from start to finish, and why they don't get straight-A's from me for this service.

They showed up soon after the quote and called to tell me they were on the way. The trees were taken down quickly and safely, and I was amazed that none of the smaller trees (especially the Dogwoods) were damaged. In fact, nothing was damaged in the yard even though we have a fenced yard and many smaller trees and plants surrounding the area. They seemed to know exactly how to cut the trees and tie them so that they fell in exactly the right area. The men were polite and professional.
Description of Work: We had 2 leaning Pine Trees in our backyard. We were alarmed when we saw them swaying during a big rainstorm that recently came by our area, afraid they would topple over in another storm. We called Dan Ross and he came out right away, even though we were not expecting him for another week or so because of emergency tree work at other locations. He was very friendly and professional and gave us a really good quote. He also gave me the paperwork to show that all of his employees were insured, and commented that he would never let his guys climb up into a tree that was considered unsafe in any way, but that they could get the tree down in a safer manner.

I called Ross Tree Service in mid-May to have them come out and trim back my Bradford pear tree and make a recommendation on future service and maintenance to it. They came out, talked me through what was needed and rebaselined the maintenance plan (we had discussed the same in June of 2011) based on the tree's growth. I came home from work 2 days later, the tree looked FANTASTIC, as like awesome tree ninjas, they came out, cut it back from the house, lifted the canopy and were gone. As a repeat Angie's List customer, the work was discounted to $300 and you can be certain I will be calling them next year to come out and assess the tree's health and do the proper trimming. As a side note, during the massive derecho in late June, my tree held up, lost NO branches and did not crack or split - which I can not say the same for my neighbor who does not use Ross. As long as I live in this house, they will be my tree go-to guys!

Ross Tree Service came out the day after they were called. Because the tree was hanging over the fence line, the gentleman went to our neighbor (down the hill) and coordinated with him so that the tree could 'land' in that yard and be removed from the bottom of the hill. There was extra care taken to make sure all of the debris was removed from both yards. The job was expertly done. I would have full confidence in this company's work should we need more tree service done. They fully deserve a 5 star rating.
Description of Work: We had a large tree on a sloping hill growing over our fence line and toward the neighboring home. The man who cut down the tree had to put on a safety belt and 'swing' from branch to branch as he methodically cut, first the top, then he rest of the tree down.

I had a couple of estimates. Ross was my third contact and they had the best price. They did not have the most modern equipment but they did a very good job. They guys were really good and they managed to cut so everything would fall in the right direction. The sawed every thing up and hauled it away. They came back and ground the stump down. They cleaned up extremely well and removed all of the wood. The overall experience was excellent. They were punctual, responsive, and professional. I would use this company again.

The work they did was fine. I had contracted them to take a couple of trees down and while doing this they found a bid dead tree. They took down the same, but charged me a lot. One of their employees was incredibly rude to me and I was upset about that. The quality of work was excellent, the cost was high and professionalism of one of the employees was rude. The estimator was not good, too. The estimator was not willing to talk to me as I am a woman. When I complained about the price, the owner came and reduced the price. It was not that everybody was unprofessional, but I will not use them again in the future.

Ross Tree provided a quote to have a Bradford Pear tree pruned, trimmed and canopy lifted, and then returned the next day to perform the service. I could not be happier with the outcome of the job, the gentlemen were professional, the work performed was exact to the quote in specification and pricing. Chris from Ross Tree is top notch, and I will use them again and have referred them to my neighbors.

They excelled at the tree removal. Efficient, safe, quick, and fun to watch. The crane actually extended over our house so it was a little nerve wracking at times but all went well. We also had the stump ground out and it was so large we couldn't tell if they got it all. They said if we cleared the mulch and found some stump still above grade to call back and they would come back and finish removing it. Sure enough, there was a good bit still above grade and they came back a week later to finish the job which was great. We weren't home at the time, and when we got home, the stump was gone but our patio door was also shattered. They claimed ignorance, said they put plywood over the door, but it wasn't broken that morning. Turns out the plywood didn't cover the whole door, the impact hole was at the very top. It took 2+ weeks to get them to answer my phone calls regarding repairing the door. We finally settled but it was frustrating getting there. All communication up until this point was great. The other services they provided were mediocre. On a major limb removal, they dropped the limb onto our fence and our neighbor's garden, breaking a pot or two and damaging some plants, including a small tree. This easily could have been avoided by better securing the limb. The tree trimming was not to my expectation at all, I was so upset with the outcome. Maybe the tree is healthier overall but it was not done to my prior agreement. You must supervise at all times to ensure things are done correctly and adequately. Finally, they fertilized a few trees which haven't appeared to make a different but we're keeping our fingers crossed.

When I initially asked for an estimate, Ross tree service came on the same day I called. They were very responsive and answered all my questions. A few months later I decided to go with them. They offered the best price. They were supposed to come on a Thursday, but they never showed up. They didn't call me either. I kept calling them but no one seemed to have a clue. They told me we will come on Friday. However, on Friday they never showed up. Again I called and didn't get an explanation. The receptionist didn't have a clue or the tree guys. They finally came on a Monday and overall they did a good job. I gave the lead person a check. However, I still got called a few days later to pay and I got an invoice in the mail for a higher amount. In my opinion they need to get their act together on the business/customer service side of the business. I don't think I will use them again, but if the price is the best I would probably just deal with it.

I called four times to either get a refund or the missing wood to make a full cord. The first time I spoke with a female and left a message. The second, third, and fourth times I left a message on an answering machine. All four calls were made during business hours. I would understand perhaps the first two messages not being received by the owner, but . . . . I will never do business with this company again.
