Mr. Handyman of Northern Virginia - Arlington to Haymarket

Fine. Stayed after dark until work was finished.

Not very well. The technician measured the frame wrong, not once, but twice. He then proceeded to cut the lines to the outside outlets in the front of the house and put another hole in the wall. The job was not completed and nothing was sealed correctly. We had a difficult time getting the technician back out to paint the wood as prescribed in the work order and he only applied one coat. Additionally, there were gaps of roughly 1/2 inch around the outer part of the molding where the frame was to fit. We had a supervisor out twice and he was not helpful in getting the work done. I had to have another company come in and fix the work and I paid that out of pocket.

My Handyman was Aaron Jordan and I can't say enough good stuff about his professionalism, skills, responsiveness, and ability to solve a couple of household problems that have been driving us mad. He arrived around 4 pm on Thanksgiving Eve and I had much of my family all over the house. My dad, who has handyman skills, but has Parkinsons and cannot take care of these things for me anymore, kept Aaron company for much of his time. It's a little pricey, but I would absolutely use Mr. Handyman again, and would request Aaron's help in future projects.

Did a fine job. This tech talks too much. I prefer someone that comes in and gets the job done. I am not paying for a conversation. Plus, I am working too.

The workman showed up a little late but the dispatcher had called and noted they were running a bit late due to traffic. The workman worked hard while here and the foreman stopped by on the 2nd day they were here. This was a two day job only because I wanted to make sure the sub-floor dried overnight before replacing the boards. The work itself was good and I am pleased with the results. The clean up could have been slightly better, but nothing major, just a little dust and a saw that got left behind that was promptly picked up the next day.

I got three estimates and this was the lowest, although it was provided over the phone based on pictures, vice in writing via email. One company came out to look at it and the other two provided estimates based on pictures. That was fine with me. All companies said they could not guarantee a match with the textured ceiling. The guy came out, was on time and professional. He made two runs to the store, which took almost two hours, but in the end the price remained reasonable and below the other two estimates. The work done was fine and given the nature of the textured ceiling, we are happy with the job. We would definitely get estimates from them in the future.

Loved our tech. But I was shocked when I learned that this company marks up the price of materials. Handyman had to go to Home Depot to buy some wood and it was about $60-70 (couldn't get a straight answer on the exact dollar amount spent at Home Depot)....they charged me $102 for those materials! And also added a $10 "disposal fee". None of this was ever mentioned when I booked the appointment. When I asked Katie about this charge, she said that next time I could get the materials myself. I wouldn't even know what to buy! Thumbs down on this company.

They were really good, I'd give them an "A" across the board and I'd use them again.

He was a very pleasant guy. He did all of them. It was substantially less than anywhere else that we asked. He's a little physically impaired. He has some issues but he does work thru it. He was here on time. He's real professional.

I had a really bad experience with them. There was a lot of random projects for no reason. They are not just expensive they are irresponsible charging. Crazy fees for no reason. They charge irresponsibly for no reason. One example they charged a dispatch fee. They gave me a quote for the project and then I agreed to the quote. The day of the arrival they charged me a dispatch fee for each worker they send to me. So they send me 6 workers to do a handy man job. For each of them they charged me $50 per person for a dispatch fee. They charged me $300 total for dispatch fee That was not reviewed or disclosed in the proposal. That was on top of the quote that I agreed upon. That was crazy. They dame to do the job a couple of times over the period of week. Each time with every worker they charged a dispatch fee. They charged random fees for doing nothing. I already paid them price for people to do the work and then they charge me for the dispatch fee. That is insane. I would not use them again.

We had a scheduled appointment for 7/21 at 3:00pm. We waited until 3:20pm and then reached out to the Mr. Handyman main number (703.621.4817). We are still waiting to hear back from Mr. Handyman on what happened to our scheduled appointment (90 minutes later... and counting). We selected Mr. Handyman because of the excellent reviews on Angie's List. So far, not a good first impression.

The handyman on the first day had a bit of an attitude, worked slowly, and the quality of his work was good but not great. The handyman on the second was great to work with, worked quickly, and had excellent quality. Overall grade a B+.

My original appointment was July 3. I sent photos in advance so they would know what was going on (a complicated shower/tub faucet changeout). They scheduled me for the afternoon of the 3rd. When the plumber, Aaron, arrived, he told me the work was too complicated to finish by 5 and we would need to reschedule. I told him I had the tub relaxers coming and the plumbing had to be done first. They said a few days later was fine (I should note, it was Aaron and the tub glazers who said this.) Thus we scheduled for the morning of the 15th. So I go ahead and do the reglazing, but it turned out that the reglazers couldn't put my drain back in--it was a hack job in the first place, and I would need a new drain. So I called MrHandyman to add the drain to the work order. They say OK. Saturday morning...no Aaron. I call them an hour after he's scheduled to arrive, and after hemming and hawing, they say he's scheduled for the afternoon. (And magically, an appointment reminder arrives in my email! That's not suspicious or anything.) Aaron arrives at 1...and says he doesn't have enough time to do the work. He blames the scheduler, which seems accurate given the email. He calls the office, they call me, and THEY TELL ME THEY CAN'T DO THE DRAIN BECAUSE OF THE REGLAZING. So, I'm royally you-know-whated and have to find somewhere else to live for a few days till I can find a decent plumber. Oh, and they charged me the consulting fee. I'm going to demand it back.

The initial technician was over an hour late for initial visit. No word from the office, I had to call to find out why no one had showed up. After finally arriving and going over the work to be done he left to pick up the lumber, Instead of getting if from the Home Depot just down the road he went to a significantly more distant Lowes, adding unnecessary time. Then about three hours into the visit the tech came to me and said he'd injured his back and had to stop work. All that had been accomplished in this time was collecting a pile of lumber and adding a backing board for one of the drywall repairs. I was given a one hour labor credit and asked to call the office to reschedule. I attempted to reschedule twice but both times my appointment was cancelled at the last minute due to "family emergencies". Frustrated, I was about to throw in the towel and ask for my credit to be refunded, but I decided to give the company one last chance and scheduled a fourth visit. This time a different tech showed up and finished two of the jobs, but I was unhappy with the quality. For example, the deck handrail had poorly done angle cuts and the overall fit was bad enough that I made the tech redo a section. The one ceiling repair that was "finished" wasn't completely blended with the surrounding area and will need additional finishing work before it's ready to paint. I decided to skip one of the drywall repairs as I wasn't willing to spend more time and money than I'd already sunk into this fiasco. Between the repeated cancellations, the poor quality of work, and the excessive number of hours I was billed this was the worst home repair experience I've ever had. I would strongly advise that you find a different company to work with.

Work was high quality and technician was professional. Took a little longer than I expected (3.5 hours or so) and was a little more costly, but good work done.

It was a very good experience. They were a little late in responding to some inquiries.

The company nor technician did not call to inform he/she would be 1.5 to 2 hours late to the set appointment. Unacceptable to waste customers time and inconvenience of lost wages for taking time off of work.

Closet doors were not installed properly. They did not close completely. They were not built out to the correct measurements. Windows are very cheap quality but appeared to be installed correctly.

Not well. When you pay for an estimate you should not need to follow up with the company several times to obtain what you paid for.

Handyman came at the promised time. Work was done efficiently and thoroughly. I was satisfied with the work.

They are a little pricey. The gentlemen that came out were very professional. They assessed the situation and gave me a quote. They did the work. The siding had holes in it. They fixed it and got the squirrel nests out. The squirrels came back and got back in and tore up the siding again. I had to call the back out. They said that they were going to have to charge me another $400.00. I said no, I did not pay you to put up siding. I called you to get rid of the squirrels and keep them out. If they had told me that we would have to put something underneath then I would have said, okay let's do that. But that is not what they said. They said no problem, we will fix it under warranty. It was fine. They were very good at customer service and handling the situation.

The company rep came out and measured the window promptly on April 3rd. Since then I have heard nothing from them and they did not return my phone calls. I had to hire someone else and will endeavor to get a refund from Mr. Handyman.

Arrived promptly and was professional. Decided to go a different route with the work to be done.

It went extremely well. My representative Ivan from Handyman was the ultimate professional. He took excellent measurements, did not waste materials and then painted the replacement wood. He was expeditious and was an amazing carpenter/painter. I will be using this company again and will request Ivan to do more work for us!

Knowledgeable and skilled. The total cost was twice or nearly twice the other estimate. If I needed a plumber or an electrician I might turn to them rather for some simple things rather than, since they're licensed. So yes if I had work I would get another estimate from them even though the price on this job was high.
