Paul, and this company, are a waste of time. Paul has been giving me the runaround for three days. Finally got him on the phone for 5 minutes and he yelled some advice at me, I tried what he suggested and called him back as instructed and then he blew me off for the rest of the night. Never followed through , left me in a bind, and clearly didn't give a crap. I would rather a company tell me they can't help or are too busy then string me along for days. Don't bother with this loser, he's not worth it!

Was a flawless effort from the initial call on a Saturday morning to water pressure restored in 48 hours. The work was impeccable and the cost per our insurance company was below the DC/NVa market “...good value and impressed with their documentation...”. This was replacing a 1.5hp deep well system.
Description of Work: Was a complete well pump replacement. Required the pull of the old pump and then the reinstallation of a new pump with integrated control.

Jason and his crew were exceptional. They were prompt and extremely professional. They were able to assess the problem and fixed the water line within an hour. It was a pleasure doing business with Monticello. We would highly recommend this company and would definitely use them again for any well issues.

The owner Paul and his grandson Jason did a great job. Paul was very hands on and was present for the entire job. We wanted Gould pumps and were pleased to know that at one time Paul was the Gould distributor. Paul was very knowledgeable about the system and what needed to be done. It was a big job but they completed everything in a little over 4 hours. This was not an emergency. We decided to replace the original Gould pump system because it was 21 years old. Paul knew exactly what needed to be done and did an excellent job. They tested everything a number times before they left. Gould only gives a one year warranty on the pumps. Paul extended that warranty to 2 years. It is hard to get reviews for the ejection pumps so we hope this helps others. We would highly recommend this company. If we ever need emergency service we will definitely call Monticello Pump Services.

Monticello Pump Service has been working on our system since 1994 which was before we purchased our home. I've referred Paul and his company to several of my friends because he is quick to respond (available 24 hours a day) and just always in a fabulous mood. I mention his mood because he knows the minute he picks up the phone, the person on the other side is already stressed. Paul tries to access the problem on the phone prior to sending anyone to your home to make a diagnosis. If he can walk me through a checklist of things to do.. he can do it with anyone. Sometimes he doesn't need to come out and it's fixed over the phone. If he needs to come out, he'll send J and go from there. When our water pump went out, it took a few times to get it right because the replacement pump was defective. I stayed on his priority list until the problem was fixed. We also had to file an insurance claim. Paul was very helpful explaining the process to us, as well as dealing directly with the insurance company. Monticello has a way of making you feel as if you are their only customer. Your family is their priority 100% of the time.
Description of Work: Not sure of the total cost over the past 14 years. He replaced the water and well pumps. He's worked on our relay box, They've replaced our extra water tank.

We had no water. Paul, Jason's grandfather, asked if we could make it through the night because they were already committed to someone else without water, saying they would be here ( Warren County) early the next morning. This not being a problem for my husband and myself, we agreed. Paul and his guys arrived by 9:00. Work was completed by noon. During the course of conversation we mentioned that the water pressure in the house was low. This was in part due to a slow basic pump motor and the distance from the well. Paul explained the computer system that increases the flow of water to answer demand, which we were impressed with. We were also impressed because he told us he wouldn't agree to market the product with his company until he had had experience with it. Paul installed the pump system in his home two years before he was satisfied with it's performance enough to sell it to his customers. It required a return visit to install the computers system which took about 2 hours. This time Jason accompanied Paul and did that instillation. Jason, like Paul, is very personable and professional. They taught us what to look for should trouble arise, and the remedy in that event, which was "call us! We'll be here". They did the work quickly and neatly. Honestly, it was nice to see them a second time, they are just nice guys!
Description of Work: Replaced worn well pump and replaced inside holding tank with computer controller for new well pump to increase water pressure and allow water usage in multiple areas simultaneously without loss of pressure.

I called on Sunday morning with no water pressure/water, I am on a well. Paul answered and over the phone diagnosed the problem, walking me thru some diagnostics. I sent him one email with a photo attached to confirm what I was seeing. It ended up being bad pressure tank switch contacts. I picked up the parts I needed at Lowes, and Paul was on the phone with me to ensure I wired it up properly. ALL THIS was conducted over the phone and it was successful, in about two hours I had water pressure back and was good to go. Paul DID NOT charge me a penny! As far as I'm concerned Monticello Pump is the place for any future issues I have. He does business the old fashioned and right way. Saved me a day of no water, I don't know a couple of hundred bucks at least in labor costs, and he was thoroughly professional. Pay no attention to the negative reviews, this guy is the man!

I called Paul and he was willing to assist me in troubleshooting, however I felt more comfortable having a professional take a look. I can rebuild a Chevy small block, but I'm new to well operation. After a minor glitch related to leaving a message on their web site, I called Paul on Monday morning and he had Jason and his assistant at my property that afternoon. Quickly diagnosing that the issue was in the well and not at the pressure tank or switch (or inside electrical), within the hour the plastic pipe, wiring (all 250 feet), and pump were all lying on the yard. The problem turned out to be shorted (abraded insulation) wiring while the pump was still functional. I was given the option of replacing the wiring and reinstalling the old pump or replacing with a similar or higher capacity pump. There was no sales pressure to choose a more expensive option. I decided that given the labor involved (and a new pump warranty) that it made the most sense to replace with a higher capacity (the pressure/flow had previously been marginal) and higher quality (the old pump was an ACE brand installed by the home builder in 2004). The entire job was completed in under three hours in a cold rain. I can't say enough about the responsiveness, willingness to answer my numerous questions, and professionalism of Monticello. It was old school and it is nice to see that it still exists.

Jason was very helpful he was friendly and informative. My husband was with him the whole time asking questions and learning from him. He and his assistant pulled up the pipe in my well, found the break in the wire and the improper doings of the first people that set up the pump. fixed it and put chlorination in the well to take care of the fact that the pipe was laying on the ground all over the yard while the pump was being diagnosed. My husband said he was friendly and did a great job. (they)

We replaced a pump at [member name removed]'s residence on February 16, 2013. To the best of our knowledge the pump that we replaced last year is operating normally. Before performing any work for any customer we inform them of what the nature of their problem is and quote them a price for the work necessary to correct the problems. We never do any work that a customer has not authorized us to perform and agreed to a price. This was the case with [member name removed]. We have recently discovered her posting on Angie’s list complaining of the price we charged her and wanted to respond so all facts are known to our present and potential customers. First, we did not charge [member name removed] $3,000 for her pump. This price included not only the cost of the pump, but our labor to remove the old pump and install the new pump, the cost of new copper wire (190 feet), and other equipment needed to install the pump such as a check valves, brass adapters, etc. Also, we offered [member name removed] two different models of pumps to choose from and she elected to purchase the more expensive pump. We regret that more than one year after performing work for her she has decided to complain about our charge for our work. We did want to make clear to Angie’s List subscribers that she agreed to the price before we performed any work and that the charge paid was for more than simply the pump. If anyone reading this would like further clarification from us please feel free to contact us.

We are so grateful to Monticello for all of the services they've provided to us. In the past 30 days we have had to replace our well-pump, our hot-water heater, and then our septic-pump. This sounds overwhelming but Monticello took such good care of us that the impact to our family was minimized. In each instance, Monticello first attempted to diagnose the problem over the phone and gave us guidance on how we might first attempt the repair ourselves. This happened both on weekends and late in the evenings, it didn't matter, they were consistenly patient, helpful, and always first attempted the least expensive repair option. All of the work was done quickly and within hours we were back up and running. Jason did all of the repair work and he was a consummate professional. Monticello was also prompt in providing information to our home insurance company which facilitated a quick claim on our end. Paul, the owner himself, even came to our home to drop off a septic pump when one couldn't be found immediately. He was on his back into town celebrating his 51st wedding anniversary with his wife, together they went to get the pump, deliver it personally, and then patiently explain all of the billing to us. This is service that you just don't see anymore and we are beyond grateful we chose Monticello for all of these repairs/replacements. We recommend Monticello Pump and Well to anyone in Northern VA for any pump, well, and/or water needs.

We decided not to use the provider for the sump pump because it turns out it is covered by a home warranty. We asked them to perform the work associated with the regulator, but we were told that there is an additional "Service Fee" which we were supposed to pay regardless of whether work was performed. I told the provider that there was no mention of a service fee when I spoke to him over the phone. The provider asked if we expected them to work for free. Had I known in advance about the service fee, I would have made different decisions about the work that I wanted done. The service fee was in addition to the labor and parts for replacing the components on the water regulator for the pump. I think the provider was hoping that it would be emergency work. However, we use the well water as a backup water source. Do ask whether there is a service fee and what the terms of that fee are before having an employee come to look at your repair job.

We have recently learned that [member name removed]posted some information about our company on Angie’s List and we wanted to post a brief reply to more fully explain the situation at her residence. We were contacted by this customer and informed over the telephone that she had a sump pump that needed replaced. During this telephone call we quoted the customer an approximate cost of the work needed to replace the sump pump. This quote included a charge for our service call, which is simply the first one-half hour of labor. The customer asked us to come and do the work. When we arrived at the residence we examined the sump pump and it did in fact need to be replaced. The customer then indicated that perhaps the replacement of the sump pump was covered by a home warranty and we waited approximately one-half hour while the customer called the company. The customer returned and indicated that in fact the sump pump would be covered by the home warranty so he did not want us to replace it. At this point we were ready to leave the customers residence without any charge whatsoever. The customer then asked us to look at an entirely separate issue associated with a well that they used to irrigate the lawn. After looking at the pump we determined that the customer needed a new pressure switch. We informed them what the cost of the installation of the switch would be, including the minimum first one-half hour labor charge. The customer said that no one informed them of the service charge. We reminded them that it was quoted to them for the work that was originally intended to be performed on the sump pump. The customer wanted us to perform the work on the switch for simply the cost of the switch which we politely declined. We are a business and need to charge for our labor. In this circumstance we spent approximately two and one-half hours on a call and received no compensation. There are certainly times when we go on calls and circumstances occur where we do no work and hence do not charge a customer. However in this situation the customer wanted us to perform work but not charge for our labor. As a business we cannot agree to perform work without charging for our labor costs. We are certain that Angie’s List customers understand this business practice. We would be happy to discuss this further with current or potential customers if they have questions!

What a pleasure to deal with during my period of self induced stress finding water pooled in my basement and a sump pump spraying water everywhere. We discovered our sump pump was malfunctioning and I called Monticello (Paul) Pumps on Saturday night. He was incredibly helpful and scheduled me for a Monday morning service call. On Sunday afternoon, I discovered water in my furnace area and naturally tied it to the sump pump issue. Paul was willing to send a service tech on Sunday, but advised that he didn't feel, based on my description of the situation, that it was necessary to send a crew and charge for the Sunday service call. He was a calming influence to be sure. Monday, promptly at 8 AM, they were at my door. They were terrific. They analyzed the problems, which were two separate issues, and resolved them. I couldn't be happier and they couldn't have been more helpful. They developed a customer for life by their honesty and thorough understanding of my problems.

Suddenly our water went totally dead--so we knew it was the pump or the control inside the house. Monticello installed it 7 years ago, so we called them. They were extremely helpful right from the start, showing me how to try various things to restore the water without a visit (and a charge). None worked, so then they came, as promised. The guy really, really knew what he was doing and had it fixed in one hour. I would definitely recommend them. I don't know if they are cheaper than anyone else, but I found them friendly and reliable.

Angie's List recently made us aware that a complaint had been posted against our company for a job that we did over 2 years ago. Until being informed of this complaint we had no idea the customer was unhappy with any work we had done for him. During this 2 year period the customer never contacted us to express any dissatisfaction with the work we had done at his home or the price he was charged for the work. Briefly, we were called to the customers home because he had no water. The customer's well was 660 feet deep and we pulled the pump from the bottom of the well to diagnosis the problem. We determined the customer needed not only a new pump and wiring (660 feet) but a pressure tank as well. Before beginning the work, we quoted him a price for the materials and labor for the job. We always provide the customer the opportunity to obtain quotes for the work we propose from other companies before doing any work. After explaining the work that was needed to be done and the cost of the work, the customer asked us to do the job. It was a large job and we were able to complete the work in one day and restore water to the customer's residence. I understand [member name removed] feeling of being pressured, but I can assure Angie's List customers it was not pressure imposed on him by my company. All individuals who live on a well and have lost water find themselves in a pressured situation. Our company has been in business for 38 years and the vast majority of our service calls are individuals who have lost water for a variety of reasons. We have always been careful to not take advantage of people in these situations and we treated [member name removed] with the same respect that we treat all of our customers. If [member name removed] reviews this response I would encourage him to contact me so we can discuss the situation. Monticello Pump Service NEVER wants a dissatisfied customer.

I agreed to the high price of $1400 at the time, but believed it was way over a fair price. Afterwards I complained and asked for an itemized invoice. Monticello gave me a 5% rebate because I learned of them on Angies list, but while the $75 refund check came promptly, they never sent the itemized invoice that they promised. They were here a bit over two hours. On the plus side, Monticello was pleasant to deal with and prompt with service.m

{Member name removed} called our company because he was having difficulty with his well and geothermal heating system. As the owner of the company I spent a great deal of time with {Member name removed} on the phone before informing him that I believed we could fix his problem. Our corporate headquarters are located in Falls Church, Virginia and {Member name removed} resided in Darnestown, Maryland. This is approximately a 45 minute drive each way from our office. We travelled to the home and diagnosed the problem with the system. Before performing any work we informed {Member name removed} of the cost of the work and material and he authorized us to do the job. We completed the work promptly and restored the system to functioning order. {Member name removed} comments that he believes the charge for our services was not fair. First, the price charged for the tank we installed has not changed since 2008. Second, as the owner of the company I spent well over 4 hours talking to {Member name removed}, travelling to his residence and assisting our technician with work. There was no charge to {Member name removed} for any of my time spent on this job. Nor was there any charge for our 1 ½ hour of travel to and from our office. What we ended up charging {Member name removed} for our work is what we have charged for the same service since 2008. Our price has not increased. While I am disappointed to read that he feels he was over charged for our services I would like to assure him he was not. I was extremely pleased to read that he was very satisfied with our work, our responsiveness and our punctuality. Although {Member name removed} unfortunately indicated he would not hire us again I would remind him that he has a warranty for our work and we will of course honor any and all warranty work we may owe him.

Overall, I cannot even imagine hiring anyone else for this type of service. I highly recommend Paul based on his level of professionalism, no nonsense approach, and honesty.
Description of Work: I am a Realtor and during a clients home inspection, the inspector noted that the sump pump needed to be repaired or replaced. I called three different companies found on Angie's List, to discuss estimates, etc. I then called Monticello and spoke with Paul. When I spoke to him on the phone, I immediately knew that he was the one for the job. I explained to him what had come up at home inspection, he took his time to describe different scenarios as to whether he may or may not be able to repair it, or if we would have to do a full replacement. He also spoke with my client, who is selling the property, and my client agreed that Paul was who we needed to have come to the house. I met Paul and one of his employees at the house and he performed the services that we had discussed on the phone and the sump pump was able to be repaired and not replaced, saving my client a great deal of money. Paul was very patient, and pointed out to me everything that was of issue.
