Description of Work: Modern Remodeling installed a kitchen island, remodeled our family room (including replacing paneling with drywall, building bookcases and a corner desk, and painting), and fixed our basement after a sewer backup (including installing vinyl flooring, repairing drywall and casings, and repainting). They showed up when they said they would and did excellent work. Cost of service includes supplies, labor, and inspections.

At the time our employee left our company and moved from the area; as the sales manager. I personally reached out to Mrs. [Member Name Removed] and met with her on 3 separate occasions to discuss her project and needs. Multiple phone calls were also exchanged as I continued to follow up with the progress on any decision. I am not sure if multiple companies were involved with the estimating process, but I made it a point to not only maintain communication but initiate that communication at every step. I reached out to Mrs. [Member Name Removed] most recently around thanksgiving but she was not able to talk at that moment and informed me that she would reach back when she had time to review everything and the direction they determined they would like to pursue. I encouraged Mrs. [Member Name Removed] to reach out to me with any questions via email, cell phone, or office phone and I would be happy to discuss her project further. Until this recent review, I had not received any communication and therefore had nothing to respond to. We always encourage our clients to reach out to us with any questions and we respect their time as well as their requests which in this particular case was to give Mrs. [Member Name Removed] some time and then they would reach out to me. It is possible that Mrs. [Member Name Removed] made attempts to contact the original representative in an attempt to contact me or the company. If this is the case, those attempts were unknown by me or by Modern Remodeling. At this time, an email has been sent to Mrs. [Member Name Removed] following up but no response has been received yet.

Our experience with Modern Remodeling was great from the beginning to the end. First the field supervisor, Nathan, came to visit and recommended Vytex brand windows. He helped us match the color for the new windows to our existing trim. He also helped us decide on other details, such as mullions and screens. Vytex has a lot of options available. Nathan was very helpful with our decision making. Next, the supervisor for window replacement came to measure. We had wanted two new windows next to the fireplace for years, but had been told that there wasn't enough room for them to fit. We were surprised and excited when Floyd told us he could do it! The crew who put in our new windows did an awesome job! They were very polite, helpful and attentive to detail. The windows look beautiful and our house is quieter. We wish we had installed them years ago. We highly recommend Modern Remodeling to replace your windows. It could not have been a more pleasant experience.
Description of Work: We replaced 70 year old windows. We also added two new windows which meant cutting through brick. We wanted the windows to match the existing trim color on the house.

We were approached by many "storm-chasers" seeking roofing and siding work from the storm damage. We instead went with a contractor we found on Angie's List. While we didn't get a new roof paid for , we felt that we and the contractor - Marshall Roofing - acted appropriately and ethically in not pushing the adjuster (who worked for several insurance companies) to pay a claim for damage that wasn't extensive enough to warrant a new roof and/or siding. But, the adjuster was so pleased with our approach - everyone else was pressuring him incessantly - that he encouraged us to call him back for another review if we found that our neighbors were getting new roofs and siding. I'd be hesitant to use Modern given their intent to push for higher claim payments so they could require homeowners to use them exclusively for any repsirs.
Description of Work: Company aggressively pushed to "represent" us in negotiating with insurance adjuster for damage caused by recent hailstorm. The catch was that we had to sign an agreement to use Modern for any work approved by the insurance company. We were unwilling to obligate ourselves just because we would have a contractor accompany the insurance adjuster.

Working with insurance companies can be a delicate situation. All claims are depreciated up front and the depreciated value is recoverable provided documentation is provided in order to justify the final cost of that replacement. In otherwords, if a contractor can do the job for less by using a lower quality product or day laborers for example, then the insurance company will only pay the amount of the final contract total less the cost of your deductible as that is the shared cost agreed upon in the policy. This is no different than choosing a doctor who works with your insurance company. Gathering multiple estimates does no good at the beginning of any claim as the "scope" of work has not yet been identified by the insurance company. It is always good practice to have your contractor of choice present as a representative of yours as the insurance adjuster is the representative of the insurance company. Since the contractor has the best interest of yours and the job in mind, this will aide in a more complete evaluation of the damage as they will be assessing the "scope" of work with the adjuster through a slightly different lens, one that is based on implementation, production, and completion of the job. Since most adjusters are not specialist in a particular construction field or trade, items belonging to the necessary "scope" of work many times are missed all together and sometimes incorrectly identified. To prevent in prolonging the process with the insurance company and dragging out the supplement process, it becomes more efficient to have your contractor and the insurance company come to an agreed upon scope on the intial visit to help expedite the restoration process. Modern Remodeling, Inc. has an upstanding reputation in the insurance world asnd are often called out to sites with insurance adjusters from multiple insurance companies to provide ladder assistance, professional evaluation of damage, and to help in a disagreement between another contractor and the insurance company. The process can be trying at times as when estimates comes back incomplete or seamingly too little in cost, it may appear that the insurance company is not providing a fair estimate or that the contractor is asking too much. Insurance companies use a national estimating software to help in the pricing of any and all necessary work. This software is only as accurate as the individual using it and the price list it is working off of. Sometimes there is a back and forth supplement process needed to verify accurate pricing and that the line items for the work have been properly selected and applied to the job. This would be no different than having your car repaired after and accident. It is also important to realize that the insurance companies have a responsibilty to indemnify you properly for the damages and the material currently on your home. In otherwords, you want to make sure that they are not offering you a 25 year shingle when you really have a 30 year shingle, or a lower quality siding when you actually have an upgrade, or an inferior padding under your carpet when you have the heavier weight. It is also unlikely that all the neighbors in the community have had their roofs evaluated by many different insurance companies and have been found to warrant a new roof and yours was the only roof found undamaged. The question at that point would be to ask is; What is more likely? Your roof sustained no damage during a hail storm when all your neighbors did which required the replacement of the roof, Or, that the initial assesment provided by the adjuster was incorrectly identified and you should have it reassessed? Our goal is to provide a thorough inspection of the property after a storm related event, and once hired, provide representation for you to the insurance company aiding in a more efficient recovery of the damage.

We received several estimates before deciding on a company. We were very impressed with this firm credentials and professionalism. They started the job only two weeks after we made our decision and completed the same day...we couldn't believe it! All our landscaping was protected and everything was cleaned up before they left for the day!!! We have several upcoming projects that we still want to do and we will definitely be calling Modern Remodeling back!
Description of Work: They tore off our existing roof and installed a new dimensional shingle. We had them install ice and water shield and new attic ventilation.
