One key challenge was the pool, landscaping and deck. They took careful consideration of the surrounding installations including parking the concrete truck on the access road and hauling the concrete into the project. The project manager, Josh Case kept me informed through the process and supervised the final installation. I had been through a number of companies to get this work done, but M&F stepped up and executed professionally.

Excellent work. This is the second time we have used this company. Josh Case and his team were very attentive to our needs. They were professional and explained everything to us in detail. We really appreciated their customer first approach.

Marcos and his team were extremely responsive, professional and performed all work in an outstanding and timely manner. Following the framing and pouring of concrete the workers ensured the concrete was smooth and even. One worker remained and continued smoothing and brushing the concrete to perfection for several hours after the main team departed. Marcos is an excellent and caring manager and as a testament to this he came back in the afternoon and in his business attire and personally assisted final touch-up and clean-up. This is the second time we have hired M&F for concrete work over the past eight years and we have been extremely pleased with their pricing and excellent quality of work. Thank you Marcos!

We contacted M&F Concrete to build a stamped concrete backyard patio/walkway.  Josh Case was assigned to be our project manager and he was just an absolute pleasure to work with.  He laid out the design, worked closely with us in the selection of color and stamping design, and worked around our schedule changes for installation without complaint.  During installation, he could have recommended an additional step which would have cost more and which we were willing to add, but he said it wasn?t
necessary, thereby saving us about $1,000.   We are very pleased with the result and look forward to using our new walkway/patio
for years to come.

It looks fantastic and the team was very efficient and completed the work in about 10 hours.  It took a team of about 7 to complete the work.  The colors were as anticipated.  They came back the next day to apply the double sealant.  Our neighbors used them after seeing what a great job they did with our patio.  Their estimate was in the middle of other estimates we received.

Job started on time.  Josh recommended some design changes which worked out well.  Workmanship was first class all the way.
Rebar and wire mesh used throughout, unlike what was proposed by another company.
Prior to contract we were shown many pictures of past jobs and were comfortable with the process, no pressure.  Received many compliments!

Before you
consider hiring MF Concrete, you may wish to profit from my unfortunate experience
with them.

I
interviewed a number of firms that specialize in stamped concrete. MF Concrete
was one of the more expensive but Josh Case presented himself well and described
in detail how the work would be done and his personal involvement in the
project. The cost of the work was approximately $30,000 and involved a replacement
walkway and landings in the front of our house and a replacement pool deck in
the rear of the house.

The demolition
work went well. The new stamped concrete did not. We contracted for a black color,
the shade of asphalt as Josh described it. The color we received was silver
gray, not anything like we ordered. When this was pointed out to Josh on the
day the concrete was poured, he said that the concrete would turn dark. It did
not. Josh with the help of the owner Mario tried other ways to darken the
concrete, all to no avail.

Shortly after
the concrete was dumped by the cement mixer, Josh and Mario disappeared to
their next job leaving their workers on their own. The lack of adequate supervision
while the concrete was leveled and stamped led to wide separations between the
concrete sections, not the knife edge separations we were promised.

Within a
month after the concrete was poured, large cracks began to appear. We now have
seven cracks that each run 6-12 feet through the concrete.

We would
have sued MF Concrete but for the fact that the contract we signed would have required
us to pay for their legal costs. All I can say is shame on me for hiring them
and double shame on me for signing the contract. I will be filing notice with
the Better Business Bureau, not in the hope of collecting any damages, but warn
other home owners of my experience.

MF talks a
good game. But in my opinion, they do not deliver. WATCH OUT!!!!
Response from M & F Concrete

"We would like to take this opportunity to respond to [remoevd member name] review of our services. It is unfortunate that this review has been posted, as his claims are not supported by the facts or our written agreement. We contracted to do the work with [removed member name] as stated above for the requested areas. We contracted to install a textured finish with a seamless mat utilizing colors he selected. We showed [removed member name] several possible outcomes of his color selections and noted the potential for variation as the process is not completely controllable. We performed site visits with [removed member name] to other projects of ours using the same techniques so he could see the variation between projects. No promises were made or given that a color would darken after it was poured. Our contract states: “When placing and finishing colored, stamped concrete or stone pattern overlays, M&F Concrete will be using natural products to produce natural effects with concrete. There will be variations in texture and color as it occurs in nature. Due to inconsistency in sand, cement, and aggregates, these variations are expected and what makes each project unique and will not be viewed as a defect.“ Concrete colors settle slightly as the concrete cures over a 3 week period but they do not change colors. [removed member name] stated in his review he selected a black color. We do not have black in our color options. He selected colors from a sample board to match the slate shingles on the roof of his home, and since there was no exact match, he selected the closest colors which were Dark Gray and Charcoal. These selections were reflected in our contract with [removed member name]. The project is beautiful and came out extremely clean in color saturation and hue. It matches very well to the colors selected, so we were naturally surprised to learn of his dissatisfaction. We provided [removed member name] a letter from our concrete supplier verifying that the concrete contained the colors required by our contract. We have since used that color combination on a few other projects as well with great success and client satisfaction. Two Vice Presidents of M&F Concrete, Tiago Silva and Josh Case, were on site during the pour and the stamping. [removed member name] claim that Mario was not present is false, since we have no owner or employee by that name. Our site foreman was also at the jobsite for the entire duration of the project. All employees of our company go through extensive training before they are put on a stamped concrete crew and that particular crew has been with M&F Concrete for almost 10 years. Once the project was completed, and the final payment was due, we began receiving complaints demanding the color be darkened or removed. At this point we cannot remove color once it has been added to the cement. We offered, on several occasions, to retreat the surface and darken the project, going so far as to make sample boards, at our cost, for review even though he had seen on-site samples and approved the colors prior to the work being performed. He refused any additional work on the concrete, requesting instead that we bury drain lines for his drainage problems in his back yard. We performed that service in a good faith effort to satisfy which took two men a full day even though it was not a part of our contract. [removed member name] still refused to pay in full even though we had exceeded the terms of our agreement. Only when we requested arbitration did he make payment to us. It is unfortunate and rather sad that [removed member name] has attempted to discredit our company even though we complied with our written contract and provided extra work beyond what was required. We stand by our work 100% and we stand by the work on his house as well."

We moved into a new home last year that had a hand-made front walkway/patio from the previous owner. The old walkway had big pieces of slate stone laid into concrete for a mosaic effect, but the stone pieces were coming up and the walkway itself was unlevel, crumbling and a trip hazard.
Josh from M&F Concrete came all the way out to our remote home location and gave me a great quote. He definitely knew what he was talking about and brought up points that other contractors who gave me estimates hadn't even considered. He didn't try to pressure me by upselling into something I didn't want and his price was far better than other quotes I had received. Even better, he was able to squeeze us in to his busy schedule within two weeks!
The final product was beautiful and really made the front of our house look 100% better. I would definitely hire M&F again and will when we are ready to build our backyard patio!

The work was very professional from the planning to the execution.  The only drawback is the difference between the color chip we saw and the finished product.  The finished product is much more yellow than the chip.  M&F stated that the color variance was due to the specific sand used in the concrete mix and that given time it will become the color we ordered.  I'll come back and change my review if the color changes.

We'd like to relay what a good experience we had working with M&F Concrete.  We had a situation where we were up against the wall due to the criminal business practices of a prior concrete contractor.   We called M&F Concrete in hopes we could salvage this project.  Josh was quick to come out, assess the situation, and present it to Marcos Silva.  They came back with a cost that was more than fair in an effort to help us out of a jam.  They could have taken advantage of us but instead they extended a helping hand.  To make a long story short, they completed the job in the amount of time they'd stated they would, and did an absolutely phenomenal job!   We cannot say enough about the work ethic and tidiness of their workers, as well as the integrity of Marcos and Josh.   They are a professional team and their craftsmanship is superb and second to none!!
We will definitely use them again for future projects and couldn't recommend them highly enough for those who desire the highest quality at a very reasonable price.   Thank you, M&F Concrete!

After waiting over for a month for a promised call-back, I set an appointment with Josh for an estimate on a concrete driveway and large parking pad for 6/27/3 at 11:00 am.  At his request, I emailed him my address and confirmation of the  appointment day and time. He never showed and never called, claiming that he never got the email. We rescheduled for 7/2/13 at 2:00 pm. At that point I provided him with the address and alternative routes for getting to my home - one via a ferry and one via the beltway. He called 45 minutes after the appointed time, indicating that he was not going to be able to make it. Had it not been for the glowing recommendations on Angie's List, at that point I would have told M&F to forget it. Instead I agreed to reschedule for noon today. Josh called late this morning and indicated he would be late for our appointment, expecting to arrive after 1:00 pm.  At 12:55 pm he called again and indicated that he was on his way, but had just realized that his equipment would not be able to cross using the ferry so he was considering us outside his "service zone".  Since he was less than 10 miles from us at that point, we suggested that he keep the appointment, reminding him that there is an alternate route that requires no additional mileage.  He declined.
This is the least professional dealing I have ever had with a company.  Given the lack of concern for keeping commitments before getting a check, I shudder to think what would happen once M&F had a deposit.  Since estimates from other firms ranged from $10-$20K, I am very glad I did not enter into a contract with them!
Response from M & F Concrete

"I would like to clarify some points made by Mrs. [member name removed] in her review. I am sorry Mrs. [member name removed] estimate appointment had to be cancelled, however, we did not cancel the appointment. A male at the property cancelled the appointment while I was en-route. As a matter of fact, I have never actually spoken with Mrs. [member name removed]directly at all. I initially left a message on her voicemail to follow up on an estimate request. I received a call/voice mail 3 weeks later apologizing for the delay in getting back to us after we had responded to her estimate request. We have no record of an appointment scheduled for the 6/27/13 as mentioned; we do however have an appointment in our records for 7/1/13, which was moved to 7/9/13 due to scheduling conflicts since no address was provided to us at the time of initial inquiry. Upon arriving at Whites Ferry on 7/9/13, a phone call was placed to the number provided by Mrs. [member name removed] and a male, who spoke on her behalf, answered the phone. We briefly discussed the need to find an alternate route. I was not aware that we would not be able to use that route if we accepted the job since our equipment would not be allowed on the ferry. The alternate route suggested would have added significant mileage and travel time to the project. This information had not been provided at the time of the initial request for the appointment or when rescheduling the appointment. I indicated that we would have to add a nominal travel fee for the distance since the alternate route put the project outside our operating area. The man who took my call understood and said that it would be better if they found a company more local and to “not waste M & F Concrete’s time for an estimate”, despite my being nearby when I called."

Our contact, Josh, was exceptionally professional.  He quickly assessed our situation and helped create a pleasing design for the patio.  He and his crew worked with our schedule to complete the work in time for a visit of relatives from Sweden.  The work crew of five men was exceptionally professional and hard-working.  The patio area, approximately 12 feet by 35 feet was prepared, leveled with fill, forms laid, concrete delivered, colored, poured, stamped and colored with a secondary accent shade all in one day!  Two days later, another workman arrived to clean, dry and seal the concrete.  While doing this he also power-washed the adjoining house siding.  The result is even better than I had imagined at an affordable price.  Neighbors and our visitors alike are complimenting us on the beautiful addition to our home.  We are delighted with the patio and are really enjoying it.

They have been great so far. They are doing the work currently. We looked at many companies and decided to go with them. I thought the lead guy, Josh, was outstanding. He explained the entire process in detail and made sure we understood how everything was planned and how it would go. He and the owner, Marco, were great during the entire process.

They came out and gave me an estimate right away. Once they got our deposit, they put us on the schedule. The weather did not cooperate for a couple of weeks, so the project was delayed for a little bit. I'd rather delay it then have them come and try to do it when raining or too cold to set properly. Once they started, the project took 2 days and it looks great.

Called M&F to get an estimate on removing my blacktop driveway, and replacing with concrete.  They provided a written estimate.  When I had a question, they answered via email and also sent a new estimate (no change in price) with my question answered in writing.  They were very easy to work with and did nice work.  I would definitely use them again.
