When we found ourselves in a stressful time crunch over various home repairs required following a home inspection, Lensis Builders stepped in and handled them all with swift efficiency. This saved us from having to bring in multiple vendors (Roofing, HVAC, Electrician, etc.) They made the whole process simple for us. Stacy Lensis gracefully managed our pressing questions and timing needs, keeping us informed on all fronts. Richard Lensis personally reviewed the scope of work and took the team through each repair. The team was on time, friendly, and focused. We've never been more pleased with a contracting experience, and have already booked Stacy's time to begin the process of remodeling the kitchen and master bath in our new home. We're excited to work with the consummate professionals at Lensis Builders again!

They did an excellent job and we have had no problems with the results. They customized the projects to our specifications and they came out just as we wanted. They kept to the budget and handled well the little glitches that always come up without nickel and diming us. John M., their lead carpenter, is very skilled, easy to work with, and always cleaned up the site each day.
Description of Work: Lensis built our 18x20' screened-in porch and large interior closet.

I left a message on a Friday requesting an initial meeting for a rough estimate and Stacy returned my call the following Tuesday morning. Lensis Builders (LB) doesn't have an administrative assistant to field calls so it was very frustrating playing phone tag to get in contact with her. When we were finally able to speak, a meeting was scheduled for about a week later. She arrived in a timely manner, having printed out the material I had emailed her, but it was clear she hadn't assimilated the information. Other than a file folder containing the info I sent, she had nothing else pertaining to LB or, at the very least, never offered any if she did. My husband and I made a definitive choice for our family of three to live in a small house so I can be a stay-at-home mom but our family can still vacation throughout the year. However, just because I live in a small home doesn't mean I don't want the niceties found in a larger one. Stacy assumed that I wanted to remodel because I would be moving to upgrade. I felt she wanted to leave soon after she arrived, and our meeting felt rushed. It also became clear that 'she' would be in charge of the design and only materials from LB's showroom would be acceptable. Although she did humor me and say she would speak to her husband about my desire to use IKEA cabinets. I understand IKEA has subpar quality furniture, but there are companies out there that solely sell higher-end doors for IKEA cabinets, which can save thousands of dollars. About two weeks after our meeting, I didn't receive a rough estimate as previously discussed but an email stating: "it [sic] was nice meeting you recently and discussing a remodeling project. Unfortunately, this is not something we can take on at this time. I wish you the best of luck with your projects, and thank you for considering Lensis Builders."

Got estimate for kitchen remodel about 2 years in a row. The second time we noted we wanted significantly less structural work done than the original estimate was for, but we received basically the same price quote and they couldn't explain why the second quote wasn't lower. The sexism of the person who came out to do the second estimate was also very off-putting. We've had friends who were very happy with a major remodel they had done by Lensis, but we decided we couldn't go with the company.

No work was performed. We chose another contractor.
Description of Work: We provided a fairly detailed listing of the work we wanted done to upgrade our town house including major upgrades to the kitchen and master bath as well as wood flooring and stairs. The estimate was slow in being provided and when it was the work cited didn't match our list. The prices for the work that did match our list were, in some cases, considerably higher than other contractors we had bid on the contract. Shortly after receipt of the initial estimate, we informed this contractor that we had essentially decided to contract with another firm for the work and cited the mix up in the estimate and initial cost estimate prices as reasons for us not proceeding beyond the original estimate phase . Accordingly, no comments on actual workmanship can be made.

I contracted Lensis Builder to renovate a bathroom and dressing area after using them to remodel my kitchen. Both Richard (the owner) and Stacy, the company?s design professional, were extremely helpful throughout the planning and implementation of both projects. Whether it was big picture decisions such as selecting the tile for the floor or details such as vanities and fixtures, I always received great support and information from the Lensis Builders project personnel. Tony (who did the actual work) took pride in his work and was able to identify minor improvements on the original design throughout the construction process. These improvements were very much appreciated and contributed greatly to the overall value I got out of the project. Tony was very respectful of my home; he left the workspace clean and neat at the end of each day, and I appreciated his consideration and professionalism. Like my kitchen, I am extremely happy with my new bathroom and dressing area.

Great work done and we really enjoy the new added use of a fully functional yet beautiful new addition to our living space. It's a go to place now and not a brick storage room. Happy with the work and the beautiful craftsmanship. Will use them again for other house additions. Rich promises and delivers the best. My neighbors were very impressed and booked their basement remodel too.

We are completely satisfied with our dealings with Richard. He is very responsive whether it be email or telephone or in person. We would not hesitate to recommend this company as well as we are planning several other projects in the near future with them.
Description of Work: We have worked with Lensis Builders for several projects. They did a complete energy audit on our home and made insulation recommendations based on that audit. We have used them for insulating the attic above the main house ,the attic above the garage as well as insulating a crawlspace that was improperly constructed. We also have had them paint and install chair rail in our basement rec room bedroom hallway and stairway.

Lensis is a wonderful organization and we have been happy with every aspect of the renovation and with our contact with them. Richard and Stacy Lensis and the people who work with them are incredibly responsive and conscientious -- they respond to calls or emails immediately and always address our questions and concerns fully. The work they do is also wonderful -- we are thrilled with the work they have done and with the way they guided us through the process of design and dealing with the renovation itself. During the renovations they did a great job of minimizing inconvenience -- they helped us move furniture around to set up a temporary kitchen space, they kept the spaces that were under construction sealed off from the rest of the house, and they made it all as easy as possible. Now that the work is done everything looks great and works wonderfully. Richard, Stacy, and their team are extremely detail-oriented and they take pride in their work, so much so that they notice little things that could be improved or should be changed before we do. We have had a completely positive experience and we have recommended them to other people who have also been very pleased with the work Lensis Builders has done. I am so happy we chose them.

I had seen a project Lensis Builders completed on a neighbors garage. It blended so beautifully with the existing structure - I knew they were true professionals - meticulous in both planning and completing their work. My first meeting with Richard confirmed that first impression. Richard and Stacy were there every step of the way. They were concerned that the project was designed and completed exactly as we envision - and it was! My home was cleaner when they left each day than when they arrived - including their outside work area. I would unconditionally recommend Lensis Builders! They are quality builders - committed to their customers!
Description of Work: I knew I wanted to do something to modify or expand my kitchen storage but was not sure what exactly to do. Richard had a better vision for our kitchen than we did! We had several ideas, most of which would have involved more extensive remodeling than we actually completed. Although very willing to do anything we wanted, Richard was concerned about our long-term plans (we expect to move), and in ensuring we would receive the most value for our investment. Our upgrade has made such a difference! We have so much more storage space and a kitchen that looks like it always should have - bigger, sleeker, and with a cozier feel.

We have never had any sort of "remodeling" work done on a home before. We have heard many nightmare stories about having work done, so we were nervous. We found Lensis on Angie's List and after reviewing their reviews and their website, they seemed like a good fit. I am SOOOOOO happy we found them. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Lensis. The whole experience was just ideal. All the pieces came together (supply deliveries, etc.) so that everything went ahead of schedule. I had one idea in mind for how the porch would look, based on all the "rough" looking porches in the neighborhood. The Lensis team proposed we do something that blends in more with the house. We went with their idea, and are so happy we relied on their expertise. It is absolutely beautiful. Chris was the main carpenter, and he is phenomenal. He is truly talented and pays attention to the fine details. Lensis matched the roofing materials and siding and post materials on the porch, so it all blends in and looks like it was built when the home was built. The communication was good and regular between the Lensis team and us. We picked out the lighting fixtures and sound speakers, and they installed everything so that that all the wiring is hidden. They suggested certain finishes, and skylights, and we went with everything they suggested. Again, we are so happy we did. It exceeds our expectations in every way. The entire team is totally professional, trustworthy, and talented. We are now thinking we will have some work done by them inside our home. I would, without a doubt, not hesitate to hire Lensis again, and again, and again.

First and most importanly, is the connection that I made with Rich and his men. Totally comfortable. We were never told that this is an upgrade or we can't do that. I have had contractors before and there were always surprises in costs when we went along. The workmen were especially diligent in their work. We had a few things that had to be adjusted but that goes with a remodeling. Their attention to detail and professionalism were great. I was home for most of the work and have to say Joe and Kenney are their best workers. They saw my vision for the layout and made sure that I was happy with each job. I would use them for anything that I wanted to repair or add onto the house. Thw craftmanship, the personality of the workmen actually at times made this fun for me. On occasion I would pitch in just to learn show new skills and I appreciate their skill sets. Defintely recommend them for anything you would like to do. I especially enjoyed the fruit bouquet that arrived today as a small thank you gift.
Description of Work: We totally completed our basement which was nothing more than a blank storage area. We put in wall to wall closets and for my husband an in home theater which we are enjoying tremendously. Make sure that you OK the floor plans and keep up with the schedule of what is going on for the week. This will save you frustrations and make the remodel very pleasant.

Lensis did what they said they would do. They did the work on the days they scheduled and arrived on time. The work was excellent, high quality. The bid estimate was the cost. There were no hidden expenses or adjustments that appeared after signing the contract. I intend to use Lensis on furthr house renovation in the near future.

Great experience. Prompt to respond to request for proposal. Price was right in line with where we wanted to be and well under that from another company I had used in the past. During Hurricane Sandy, a tree from my neighbor's yard fell onto my living room, completely destroying it. The tree was about 75 feet tall and about 2.5 feet in diameter. It hit the corner of a 17 foot by 21 foot addition to my house, which served as my living room. About two-thirds of the roof of this room caved in; the other third of the roof was barely remaining up. At least one outer wall of the room was slowly collapsing. The damage was so severe that the home was condemned by the county. While the insurance company was processing the claim, Rich Lensis came out to survey the damage. He was thorough in his inspection of the property, and took a great deal of time with me to explain the extent of the damage and of the necessary repairs. I felt confident in him from the very start and decided to work with him, and I'm glad that I did. I contracted with him to perform the work, and Rich's crew began work almost immediately. Rich knew that the entire back room was in delicate enough shape that it could have completely collapsed at any time. He also knew that the house - including the floorboards and foundation of the addition, and the roof and rafters of the main house - was susceptible to further damage. Despite the fact that the insurance company took far, far too long to process an initial payment of the claim, Rich went above and beyond, tearing down the remnants of the damaged structure and protecting the roof and foundation from further damage - and doing so well before he had received any funds from the insurance company. Had he not done this, it is possible that further damage would have been done by rain, snow, cold, or falling debris. I have finally moved back into the house. The re-built room was very well done, and is in many ways better than it was before. Rich was very patient throughout as I dealt with problems from the insurance company. He was also very thorough in responding to questions, and very easy to reach when I had questions. I always felt like I had a good idea of the next steps in the project. I appreciate Rich and his team for helping me through what could have been a very difficult reconstruction project, and for helping me get back in my home as soon as was humanly possible. I would highly recommend Lensis Builders.

The bathroom in our home was OK, but not functional for someone older. The HUGE "garden" tub (a toddler swimming pool) was a nightmare to clean and impossible to get in or out of. A huge waste of space. The shower had no handholds if you needed something for stability. And it was not very attractive. The closets were not functional. Our son had a good experience with Lensis and a bathroom remodel. They came and we started the process of drawing, redrawing, and redrawing - working until the layout and the bottom line price fit our needs. Then the project began. They covered the carpet and hung plastic on everything and did all they could to minimize the dust in the rest of the house. BUT it was a major redo, and mess is part of the process. I can't visualize things from paper to actual thing very well, so a few walls and other things had to be moved as they were being put in place. The carpenter on the job was very patient with me when I saw that things needed to be moved to work for us. I'm sure it was hard for him, but he did it. As always, there were unexpected issues that came up along the way, but they were resolved without a lot of shouting or pointing of fingers. We were grateful for that. Sometimes it is hard to stand firm for what you want when you know it is causing someone else some extra work. But I had to know that it was our hard earned money and our last homestead, so standing for what we wanted was right. I just hoped it wasn't too bad for the builder and their crews. It seemed like it would never be completed, although it was really only 6 weeks. The subs that came in on the job were all excellent. The carpenter, John, was a magnificent craftsman. We appreciate the details of his work every day we use our bath and closet area. There were some major type of issues - the granite sink counter, holes for the faucets, and space to fit it into did not quite work. Frankly we just quietly prayed that there would be a solution. Things came together with workers finding options they had not thought of. Nothing cracked, all the patterns matched, and everything fit. The holes in the shower tile for the fixtures were too big, not covered by the fixtures we had chosen. At first it was felt they would have to tear out all the tile, which would cause major issues to the water sealing coatings underneath etc. An answer was found that only entailed getting different fixtures. Still an expense, but not nearly as much as thought initially and certainly entailed no potential damage. We have been extremely happy with our remodel. The handicap bars actually look like towel bars - very attractive. The space and design work beautifully.
Description of Work: Total re-design and remodel of master bath and closet area. Involved completely tearing out everything down to the studs and subfloor. Worked with Lensis to redesign this with handicap accessibility and practicality over the long term. Involved the selection of cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, tile, light fixtures, and accessories such as towel bars and handicap grab bars. We wanted handicap access and ease, but not the "hospital/institutional" look. As additional work they added a new sump pump with backup battery and fixed some heating and cooling duct work issues from the original construction. The air flow of the original system was poor. Several changes helped this, although the flaws in the basic design could not be corrected unless the house was totally torn down. Still, the changes have helped. An overly large intake in the master bedroom was baffled, a new air intake was placed in the basement where it should have been originally (the old one was at the furnace - a no no we are told), some ductwork was straightened, ductwork sealed at joints.

Richard Lensis came to my residence to give me an estimate for a kitchen remodel. He explained the work they would do and invited me to their showroom to see samples of the products they use. I received three estimates and decided to go with Lensis because of their professional manner. Another strong reason for choosing them was they planned to make my kitchen more user friendly, which none of the other companies offered. They submitted a design proposal and were very responsive to my questions and concerns. Once we decided on the final design, they did final measurements. They were very meticioulous about the measurements. It was a pleasure to deal with all of the employees, especially Kenny, who performed the work in an expert and professional manner. Although it can be disruptive to live in a house that is having a renovation done, Lenses did the work with minimal disruption and left the work area neat and clean at the end of each work day. I could not be more pleased with my kitchen. They did a beautiful job.

Richard Lensis worked with us through several stages of planning and design, was willing to help us modify our budget to fit our needs, and he, his wife, and staff were all very responsive throughout the process. They got started right on time at the end of June, and finished up right on schedule: in time for me to go back to school (I'm a teacher). Every step of the way, they did beautiful, professional work. The payment schedule was very reasonable, and made planning simple. They were happy to let us handle demolition and painting to save money, and there were no surprises at any stage of the project. They even hung the cabinets I refinished from the kitchen in the addition. Richard was also able to put us in contact with a great HVAC company to handle our new furnace and central air unit. I remember coming home to installed cabinets one day and telling the workmen, "Oh... you are just my favorite people today!" I absolutely love my new kitchen... the remodel has made the ENTIRE first floor more functional. Whereas before I had so little space that I was doing food prep on my dining room table and storing my dishes on my bookshelf, now I have enough cabinet space to put everything away, and enough counter space to bake and cook dinner at the same time. What was once essentially a one-person kitchen now comfortably fits at least three cooking together, and I finally have a dishwasher! The addition is just as wonderful. I love my utility sink, the washer and dryer are easily accessible, and they installed a cat door for us. Our furnace and hot water heater are now tucked away in a closet behind bi-fold doors and I even have a little storage in there for my husband's tools. The casement window they installed is beautiful and makes the whole room so airy and bright that it is a pleasure to work in there.
Description of Work: Lensis Builders did a full kitchen remodel and put a beautiful laundry room addition on our home. We received our cabinets, flooring, and sinks directly through them, and they installed/paid for our flooring when we decided to go through Lowes for our linoleum tiles. Their electrician handled all our re-wiring. They poured the new slab for the addition, did all the construction, jackhammered and re-plumbed the entire kitchen, moved our furnace, washer, dryer, and water heater out to the addition, designed and executed our GORGEOUS new kitchen.

They did a great job. Kept us up date on the process. It looks like the house has always been this way. Great Job!
Description of Work: We contract Rich Lensis to turn two small one car garages into one 16ft two car garage. Rich was very patient with us and methodical in his approach. Rich took care of it from doing the plans, getting a structural engineer to approve it, to the county permits, to job completion. He had to remove the brick front, widen the opening, put it an LVL beam, replace the brick front and then match the trim. It looks like the house has always been this way.

The company is very responsive and professional. We met at the house for measurements and to explain the addition. We were looking to bump out the kitchen and dining area, build an ADA bathroom in the lower level and add an office. They brought brochures and samples with them. We asked for a prelimitary estimate before choosing finishings, that way we had a range on what to expect. We received three estimates, their price range came in the middle, but was competitive and they were a strong contender. We chose the contractor that offered the lowest bid but we were very impressed with Lensis professional manner and response. We appreciate the time that Lensis Builders took to meet with us and provide the estimate..
Description of Work: Lensis Builders gave us an estimate for an addition.

We turned it down. They were a big company but we thought they were hard priced. They had good quality design. They knew the structure of buildings. They were going to use good materials. They paid attention to our needs. The people who came out were very personable. I might use them in the future and that depends on their prices.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Lensis Builders for an extension last month.

I live in Tennessee and they are doing work on my house in Virginia. All reports from my son and everybody else say that it is going beautifully. It should be done next week. I have heard nothing bad. They are clean, nice and cheerful. They are doing the job beautifully. I am pleasantly pleased. My son sent me pictures and they have done a marvelous job. They are very personable and have been cooperative in changing things and working with my son to get it done. They have done it in record time. They started the beginning of December and it is almost done. I had to have it done and done properly because I am going to be putting it on the market. They have done a great job. I would definitely recommend them. They can do anything and they listen to me. They suggested things and ways to do things and things that were not worth doing. They showed different sample and used tile they had left over from another job and gave it to me at a discount. They are not quite excellent but they are close.
Description of Work: I am currently using Lensis Builders to do work on my house in Virginia. They practically gutted my house and are doing it again. We had a lot of pet damage from the tenant I had in there. They literally left the house smelling like a kennel. They had to rip out all the carpet, repaint all the walls and take up the tile in the kitchen. They had to practically gut the basement. They have put back cabinets in the kitchen and redone all the bathrooms.
