The work I asked JP General Construction to undertake was the demolition of a 40 year old concrete in-ground swimming pool that was far past its prime. I couldn't be more pleased with the job done by JP General Construction. When I first contacted the owner, Jaime Peredo, he made time to do a site visit the same day in spite of other projects in progress. I found him and his staff to be flexible, straight forward in describing the details of the work to be done, the techniques and equipment involved and the probable duration of the project. The work ethic and attention to detail was exactly what I was looking for., especially on the part of his employee Carlos who was tireless in some very difficult work breaking up the concrete and rebar with a jackhammer. Initially I realized that this was probably not too common a job, so with due diligence I got several proposals for the work, including one from JP General Construction. I had previously been acquainted with their pool demolition work by a near neighbor who also had a pool demolition done by JP General Construction some years ago. He had been very pleased with the result, and still is. I'm certain that I made the right choice with JP General Construction. They would be at the very top of my list for any of the types of work that they do based on their pricing, work ethic, attention to detail, flexibility, detailed proposal, and ability to explain the details of the job in layman's terms as well as the final inspection process.

I was extremely satisfied with the professional conduct of this job. I had carefully designed the structure of the shed. It was important that all the dimensions of the slab be met accurately and that the 6 posts be placed precisely and perfectly vertical. They were. Working with Jaime was very satisfying as we had numerous discussions about details as the job progressed. I provided some large salvage planks from the old shed that could be used to build forms, and he provided several significant suggestions to improve the end result. The slab was on a slight slope. He provided much deeper concrete on the downhill side to anchor the slab and resist underwash. He provided a large footer under each post before the main concrete pour, because the posts were going to carry the entire weight of the roof. I would not have thought to do that. This is the value of hiring an experienced contractor. The shed has been completed and the first delivery of sawdust has been made. The slabs stood up to the significant weight of the delivery truck as can be seen in my pictures.
Description of Work: The job was to prepare forms, prepare soil, lay reinforcing grid, pour and finish a concrete slab that served as the floor for a sawdust shed with roll-off roof. The slab is 12’ 4” x 16’. There were 6 6”x6”x 8’ pressure treated posts embedded in concrete at the corners of the slab. The contractor squared and aligned the posts and set them in concrete. The posts served to anchor the framing for the walls and to support the rails for the roll-off roof so placement and leveling of the posts was critical. A second slab at one end of the main slab was 12’ 4” x 6' with the top of this slab 2” lower than the top of the main slab to allow the two halves of the shed south wall to swing open on rollers and to prevent water from seeping into the floor of the shed. The contractor needed to determine the depth of the slab needed to support a very heavy dump truck delivering a full load of green sawdust. There was minimal grading or soil handling as part of the job. An additional part of the job involved removing and replacing the existing deteriorated apron (approximately 86 square feet) in front of the two-car garage. And a new 111' concrete sidewalk was installed at the back door.

The service that was provided was fantastic! They were great and willing to work with me under a tight timeline imposed upon me by an evil home owners association who clearly has no idea what they are doing(Lake Ridge). After receiving about 6 estimates from other companies, JP was not only the lowest bid but the only ones who had good customer service. I defiantly plan on engaging them again in the near future for my endless list of projects!

They did a great job because the previous one messed it up. They did a good job. I think he is expensive but he did a good job. He charged more than I thought it would cost but he did a good job. He does good work. He shows up when he says he would but I think he is a little expensive. He charged me $6700 and I thought he would only charge me about $5000 and it was a lot more than I thought. But he got it done which is good. I don't think I will hire him again because he is expensive. There is still one part of the wall that is not clean and he should come back for that but he still is not coming back. He does not give a discount and I think he should be more accomodating for people with low income.

We picked three contractors (two on Angie's List) one was recommended. Jaime Perado of JP General Contractors (on Angie's List) was the best bid of the three. We chose Jaime's company and from the start, Jaime was punctual and straight forward, His bid was very fair and we hired him immediately. This was one of the most stressful situations a homeowner can go through when trying to sell their home. But the entire process was made better by the work Jaime and his crew performed. They were punctual, worked from morning until night, had the project completed in record time and work was impeccable. After the first encounter, we discovered an additional issue that needed to be addressed related to the same problem; we had to call Jaime back to do some additional work. He gave us the same punctual, professional and stellar treatment as customers as the first time. Again the work was completed in record time and work was impeccable. This is a wonderful company, we would hire his company again and again without hesitation. We live in Prince William County in Lake Ridge and would recommend hiring JP General Contractors for any work you need done in your home.
Description of Work: We had a structural issue with our town home in the basement and needed some posts and a beam added. The crew had to install footers and a steel I beam in our finished basement and the entire area had to be torn up to complete this work. We have crown moulding and textured walls and you would never know a construction crew had come in and completed work like this when finished. The paint was matched perfectly, crown moulding reattached even after being cut without any visible cutting lines, etc. This problem was a specific structural problem that required an engineer and a specialized contractor. It was discovered when a home inspector indicated a sag in our kitchen floor.

Words can't really express how positive my experience has been with Jaime Peredo of JP General Construction. Everything was done on schedule, within budget, and he was extremely responsive and available and wonderful to work with. All of his workers worked very hard, putting in long hours for three days to get the job done. The know-how and quality of the work they performed was also extremely high. There were a few changes during the course of the job, which was no problem for Jaime or his crew. Jaime was present at the site several times throughout each of the three days of the job, and he spent as long as was needed answering my questions and going over options for different solutions. IF YOU NEED ANYTHING DONE THAT JAIME'S COMPANY PROVIDES, DO NOT HESITATE TO HIRE JP GENERAL CONSTRUCTION!

Jaime Peredo, the owner of the firm is wonderful to work with - from initial planning to final walk through. The first job we did with JP was to move the front door of the house to improve the flow of the living room, which originally had the traffic flowing right between our sofas and right into the coffee table. Jaime gave us a a very fair estimate and exceeded our expectations. We loved the results and quality, and JP stayed on budget and on schedule. From there, we had our dining room done. That room was a converted sun room with thin, cheap windows and dated paneling. The room got a total redo, with huge windows, french doors, and crisp, new drywall. Absolutely beautiful! And on and on from there. The last job was the kitchen. It also looks great and was really reasonable in terms of price. As with any big job, we had a long punch list and in the rare case of an item that needed adjusting, Jaime was great to work with (like flipping the fridge door). One thing I would mention, Jaime gave great advice throughout this project and others. He did recommend a different type of flooring than I decided on(he recommended hardwood or tile, I wanted pergo). I have to say -- I should have listened. We have found that the concerns he had were very on- point. At some point we'll probably have to change those out, but they look very pretty now. The rest of the kitchen is great. In sum, everything they have done we are very satisfied with!
Description of Work: JP General Construction was hired to do one small job, but their professionalism, quality and price quickly had us coming back for other and bigger jobs, including the remodel of two bathrooms and most recently, our kitchen. In addition to those jobs, we also had a bedroom and our dining room remodeled, and the front door moved to improve the flow and floor plan of the living room. When I say remodel, please note that the spaces were stripped to the studs and then reconstructed.

Jamie and JP General Construction is very easy to work with. We had 2 other waterproofing companies come out for estimates. One tried to up-sell and neither of them could install the electrical outlet or deal with our stairs (they didn't even subcontract). Jaime's crew was able to take care of all our needs, at an almost identical cost to the companies that expected us to find contractors to deal with the related issues. Jaime and his crew were punctual, super nice, industrious, and very hard working. Our job was completed quickly. Jamie and his crew most certainly went above and beyond to ensure a well finished job. It was very reassuring to know that all aspects of the job could be handled by one crew (instead of having to find additional contractors to finish it). I would recommend Jamie to anyone needing waterproofing. His company also does kitchen and bath remodels as well as decks, porches, driveways etc. I'm confident that his crew is just as detail oriented and quality focused in these areas as well.
Description of Work: Jamie and his crew removed our stairs, drilled out the floor, installed a sump pump and electrical outlet, dug (and covered) a drain line to our property line, and re-installed the stairs and concreted everything back in place.

After two emails and no response, I called at 9:30 am to check on the time when he would arrive. He informed that he was in NY due to an emergency and would not be coming. He stated that he was going to call me "later." I understand emergencies do arise but I could have waited all day to find out he was not coming. Had he answered one of my emails, I would have known ahead of time that he was not coming. I had to rearrange plans for the day as i am going out of town for the next several days. Dear (member name removed), Thank you for your review; we greatly appreciate you sharing your experience so we may improve the level of service to our clients and the Angie’s List community. Please accept our sincerest apologies for our breakdown in communication the other day. Moving forward, we are taking steps to put controls in place to properly address unforeseen complications. We understand if you are no longer interested in working with us, and if you would be willing allow us another opportunity to meet with you about your project, we would be entirely grateful and believe we can fully satisfy your needs. Jaime was absolutely fabulous! My husband and I were in the midst of selling our home. An inspection report identified a cracked truss in the attic and a few other items that didn't fit squarely into the major systems of the house. Truss problems can crush a home sale so we were extremely worried about having the work done well, efficiently and at a good price. Initially, we contacted roofing companies thinking did that sort of work but after talking to several folks, we learned that a carpenter or general contractor specializing in construction or carpentry could do the work. I was referred to Mr. Peredo by a structural engineer we spoke with about the problem. I made contact with Jaime on a mid-day Sunday and by Monday morning I had a message from him. We spoke on Monday, I explained what we needed and he agreed to come out on Wednesday. He climbed into our attic, examined the truss, asked where the closest home improvement store was located and was off. He returned with special lumbar and nails and sistered the truss. The whole job took him like three hours, start to finish. He drove all the way from Virginia to Laurel, Maryland to perform this work. He was fast, extremely professional, and charged us a fair rate. He agreed to also do some additional work for us as well, i.e. parge work, carpet pad repair and upgrading. I am extremely particular in how I want work to be done particularly in this situation where the work had to be done to someone's satisfaction. Jaime was a Go- send. I highly recommend him! He was honest, fair, efficient and did stellar work! If we purchase another home in this area he will be our go-to person for all contracting work. PERIOD!

Going with JP General Construction was a bit of a leap of faith as most of the reviews on Angie's List are for smaller jobs, but I could not have been happier with Mr. Peredo and his crew's work. After getting estimates from several firms who'd reviewed the plans from my structural engineer, his bid for the work was very fair -- not the cheapest, but more than $15,000 less than the much larger firm which had been the runner up. I'd note that the work at my house was so complex (replacing the entire foundation of the house from the inside) that two of the firms I interviewed wouldn't even bid on the work. Mr. Peredo immediately knew how to best execute the engineer's plans and he quickly demonstrated his construction knowledge when he found that the structural engineer's plans needed to be modified in order to safely and more effectively complete the repairs. The engineer, on two separate occasions agreed with Mr. Peredo's plans and offered to redo the drawings. First, he recommended doing the demolition of the existing shelf footers in a more conservative but time consuming way and second, he recommended using a single steel I-Beam, instead of two separate sections, even though the larger steel I-Beam was much tougher for his crew to put into place. In the end, I have no doubt that Mr. Peredo's proposed improvements resulted in a more structurally sound final product. A crew of four showed up every day, worked their butts off all day, and the worksite was organized/cleaned daily. Until the new walkout was finished, the crew had to walk through my house to get to the basement/bathroom and put down dropcloths to keep out hardwood floors as clean as possible. There were seven or eight different Arlington County inspections required throughout the process and we passed with flying colors each time. On one of the more complicated phases of work, one of the inspectors stayed for over an hour taking different measurements and scrutinizing the work. I'd note that I had a terrible experience with a contractor on a different project (sued and won a judgement against him), so Mr. Peredo was OK with my structuring an extremely tight, specific contract with corresponding schedule of progress payments. I'm a tough customer (especially when I'm spending a lot of money) and, much to the chagrin of my wife, scrutinized his team's progress as soon as I returned from work every day for a month. Just terrific on all fronts.
Description of Work: Major structural repairs performed as prescribed by structural engineer and approved by the county, demolition of shelf footings requiring 95 feet of new underpinning from inside of basement, demolition of shelf footings, moving main beam to proper location (as the previous beam was not located under the main loan for the house, sistered all joists to new beam, replaced existing drain pipe and added new drain piped tied to sump pump, graded yard away from foundation, moved downspouts and ran pipes to weep hole at curb, added egress window, and added new walkout from basement.

I have a townhouse in DC originally built in 1880 that I recently discovered had a badly cracked beam supporting the roof and spanning the entire width of the house. I had a structural engineer come in to take a look at it and it was his opinion that the beam needed to be replaced as soon as possiblebecause "these main support beams in these older townhouses are chronically undersized for the load and they are known to break"...considering the beam was directly above my bed, I was needless to say in a hurry to get it done! The engineer ballparked the work to be in the $5-$15K range and recommended Jaime at JP General Construction for the work because he knew that they had done this exact repair job on several other townhouses of the same era in the area. I left a voicemail for Jaime and he got right back to me within an hour to select a time to give an estimate; I explained the situation and the urgency and he was in my house with one of his guys to check it out within 24hrs. Let me try to explain just how HUGE a pain in the neck it is to access the beam in question; there is a very tight 2.5' crawlspace between the 2nd floor ceiling and the roof and is only accessible through a 2'x2' hatch in the MBR closet, I figured they were going to have to rip out half the ceiling as there's no other way to get materials up there. Jaime said it wouldn't be a problem and they could get the entire job done in one day (I had mentally prepared for at LEAST 3-5 days), said he'd check on the cost of the necessary materials and get back to me with a quote. Got back to me that evening with a quote of $3,500...fantastic! 2-days later Jaime and his guys showed up at exactly the planned time (8:30a); they put down drop cloth's from the moment they walked in the door, from the door, up the steps, through the hallway, and into the MBR which they covered in plastic so it wouldn't get dust etc all over the room...I don't think a single boot TOUCHED any of the rugs in the house! These guys had to get the huge replacement beams up into the crawlspace through a 2' hole in the ceilling, chipped away the brick on either side of the damaged beam so the new beams would be mortared into the brick wall, sandwiched them all together with bolts, repaired the hole in the ceiling, primed and painted the newly sheetrocked ceiling...and were out of there by 4pm! I absolutely couldn't believe how quickly and professionally they got the job done and left the work area IMMACULATE. I will absolutely use them again, A++.
Description of Work: Repaired a badly cracked main roof-support beam, shored up and repaired a brick column in the basement to support the steel I-Beam holding up the whole house.
