About us

Since 1936, JE Rice True Value has been supplying local builders and homeowners with their appliance and hardware needs. About 40 years ago, the store emphasis moved into the appliance and hardware line where installation and delivery are available. JE Rice remains a family run business to this day. Steve, Jamie, and Chase Rice enjoy working in the store, which has always been a part of their lives. We will continue to move along with the times," says Chase who also says the store has managed to survive for so many years because "we are customer friendly and offer many items that other stores do not stock." Customers going into the store will always find a willing employee to help them whether they are looking for hard-to-find dime bolt or screw or a refrigerator. "We always strive to be sure our customers leave with a smile - whether we were able to make a sale or not," says Chase Rice. While the company no longer sells tires or many other automobile accessories, it does handle some batteries and cleaning and polishing supplies. For the home kitchen there are all types of supplies, ranging from iron skillets to pressure cookers. All types of garden supplies are available including rakes, hoes, shovels and working gloves. Grass seed and insect repellents are included in the garden section - even ax handles. Vacuum cleaner bags and stove parts are displayed on the opposite wall from the paints. Full lines of electric supplies are carried in the store, including extension cords, light bulbs, fluorescent bulbs and switches. Plumbing supplies such as faucets can also be found. For those who like to bicycle, replacement parts - including pumps and pedals - can be purchased. Pulleys, dowels, chains, cable and lawnmower parts are other items tht fill the store. One side of the store is devoted to large appliances, including ranges, Pellet & Gas Stoves, washers and dryers. "I don't think there are very many household items a person might want that can't be found in our store."

Delivery of the stove and it's installation were two separate appointments. In both cases the workers were on time, professional and knowledgeable. The installation team did a very good job (I'm always extra worried when I have workers putting holes in the side of the house) and I have no complaints. I also very much appreciated the installer spending about half an hour with me after installation while he taught me how to use, clean and maintain the stove.

They were always topnotch. They're a local company that's why I like to go to them. They're very knowledgeable and helpful. They have a good inventory of all kinds of things. They have reasonable price and for a store that has to compete with other store, very competitive, they also know what they're talking about. They're really so good. They've been in the business since the 50's, so they're not going to mess around that reputation.

It was great from start to finish! I contacted J E Rice to order wood burning pellets for my pellet stove, and they took my order immediately over the phone. Even though they traveled from Manassas to my home in Alexandria, Joe and Rob arrived promptly at 9:00 a.m. to deliver the pellets, and proceeded to carry one ton (50 bags at 40 pounds each) of wood pellets to my basement. They stacked the bags up neatly, and didn't stop until they were finished. It's a pleasure to do business with a quality company like this; I will definitely do business with them again. Description of Work: Purchased assorted hardware - primarily grade 5 & 8 nuts bolts & washers. As close to an old school hardware store as you can find around here. Knowledgeable people ready to help you at a ll times or let you wander if that is your preference. Great selection of all types of things you would expect to find. Some of the toll prices are bit higher than the big box stores but it is definitely mor fun to shop here and the slight cost differential is made up for by the service. It is good to patronize local businesses too.
