H&H Paving Asphalt Specialist, Inc.

H&H Paving was the most responsive company when my neighbors and decided to work together to get our driveways repaved. They were very timely in providing estimates, followed up to see if anything else was needed (but were not pushy), and my dealings with the company were very positive. Although we did not ultimately use this company for the work, it was not because of anything H&H did or did not do. I would very definitely recommend anyone who is getting paving work done to contact H&H.

I was able to set up a consultation within a couple of days of my initial phone call. Justin, a co-owner, came out and walked me through the job and discussed some design ideas. We signed a contract within 2 weeks after getting a couple of other estimates. H&H was the middle estimate. The crew arrived today pretty close to the time I was told a few days earlier in my confirmation call. Once all of the trucks were there, the large crew went immediately into action. I was amazed that in barely 4 hours, the company dug up my entire driveway, dug up the addition, and then laid all of the new gravel and asphalt. The driveway looks fantastic. The foreman was very helpful in going over the details of the widening with me and working out a design that was friendly to my future landscaping plans. The edging along the sides of the driveways looks great, and I was even brought aside to see a 'water test' at the end to see how it would drain. The professionalism of the company was obvious, right down to the high-quality and cleanliness of their equipment, uniforms, and general working demeanor.

Obviously H&H doesn't need another positive review, and in re-reading all of the others here my experience is pretty much the same. I got three estimates. It was time consuming and not fun. However, Justin the H&H estimator was on time, fast, thorough, and the package he gave me included the company insurance and other information I had to ask others for (and didn't get from the other two, btw, at least not in the 2-week time frame I gave them). H&H price was highest -- I gave them the middle price I'd gotten and we compromised in between the middle price and theirs. So it was still higher, but I was impressed by their professionalism, references, reviews, and willingness to compromise, and they seemed by far the better value. We had one glitch in the start date (understandable because of rain, they couldn't work on a project they had to finish before getting to mine) but the second try was only three days later. Because it's a rental property I had stressed that they call me ahead of time so that I could be there when they arrived (it's two minute ride over the next hill from my house). Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I got the call, zipped over, and discovered that the crew had in fact arrived at least half an hour earlier and were already well on their way down the drive. I would've liked to have been there right from the beginning. I stuck around for the whole job. The foreman was great - actually, the whole crew was amazing. They WORKED. Nobody stopped to take a break or chitchat. It's the first time I've watched asphalt being laid and it was interesting. I always knew that it was 'hot and smelly' but it was surprising to me how hot the driveway remained, even into the evening. Everyone was a hard worker, they made the job look easy because they coordinated so well. They had to park out on the main road and were prepared with directing traffic around them safely. The job was finished within, oh, five hours or so I guess. Like magic they picked up and left. The driveway is just BEAUTIFUL. I am to call them in the spring to seal it (I don't know what that will cost) in order to maintain the warranty (2 years). It looks like a great job to me and I am so pleased. I have several other long driveways and would not bother calling anyone else besides H&H to do them all -- if I won the lottery!

Called for an estimate. They gave me an estimate that was higher than others. I checked references and everyone was very pleased with work. Set up a date... They arrived on time and ready to work.. Whole job took only one day. They have great equipment and a well trained crew. It was like watching a well oiled machine in motion. I am very pleased with the result. My driveway drains well and was well worth picking a professional crew.

Jerry Holbrook - H&H founder came by to do the estimate, assist me in finalizing the commercial grade specification that I wanted and help me layout the expanded driveway. Since I had very tight installation timetables, Jerry made sure that the crews would be available and confirmed the date before I signed the contract. As a former General Contractor -- I am picky. Jerry was all pro and was the only one of the 7 other paving contractors I contacted that really understood the quality and strength levels that I required with no corners cut. H&H office team was great - courteous, professional and on top of the details - reconfirming dates and preparation details. The demo and install teams were on site on time on the appointed day. Within hours they had removed the old drive, regraded, buried the conduit, I had requested, remarked the expanded driveway and began paving and rolling it, rolling it, rolling it. The asphalt installation was FLAWLESS !!! The grading was perfect to allow natural water runoff. The connection to the garage, walkway, stone steps was perfect and extreme care was take by the crew to be neat and protect the walls from stain or damage. I have seen a lot of driveway work over the years and frankly this was the best finish I have ever seen. And the team that did the work were professional, courteous and hard working. The job took 8-9 hours from start to finish. Net-net, if you are looking for the best Asphalt Team in the area, H&H is your Company. They are price competitive, take extreme pride in their work with workmanship beyond compare.

When I spoke with them, they told me that their minimum job was $2500. I thought they were very rude and the minimum price was just insulting. They don't do repairs and they're twice the cost of everyone I called.

I did not schedule the estimate because they took entirely too long to respond to my email (sent 8/27), and I felt that they would take even longer to come out for the estimate or the actual work, if they show up at all.

Great work. Very professional. Large crew, modern equipment, that produced a superb product. The company was recommended by a neighbor and I was very satisfied. It was obvious that the manager and crew were highly trained and experienced and focused on producing a professional result. Also, when they provided the initial estimate, they presented a complete estimate - details of the work to be done, copy of their license and insurance, and listing of nearby recently completed driveways so I could get an idea of the quality of their work.

The work crew arrived as scheduled. The crew was obviously were experienced and worked as a team during all phases of the job. The old asphalt was trucked away. The existing base was leveled and a layer of additional stone was added, leveled and rolled to compact the materials. Two layers of asphalt were applied. The second layers was applied so as to make the finished driveway seamless. The finished driveway was level with existing brickwork border on one side and up against the timbers bordering the driveway on the other side. The driveway was almost level with the garage (slightly lower to prevent rain and water from flowing into the garage) and level with the sidewalk at the street end. The job was completed mid afternoon and the area (including the street) cleared of all debris. Very professional.

THEY ARRIVED ON TIME. THE WORK WAS DONE VERY PROFESSIONALY. NO ONE SAT AROUND. FIRST THEY MARKED OUT THE ENTIRE AREA THEY WERE GOING TO PAVE. AFTER ASKING ME IF IT WAS OK, THEY LAID A LAYER OF GRAVEL OVER MY EXISTING GRAVEL DRIVEWAY. THEN ROLLED IT FLAT. NEXT THEY PUT DOWN THE ASPHALT. WHEN I ASKED HOW THEY WOULD DO THE WALKWAY, THE FOREMAN SAID BY HAND. THEY CARRIED HOT ASPHALT UP IN A WHEEL BARROW. DUMPED IT AND FLATTENED IT BY HAND. THEY DID TAKE A SMALL ROLLER AND FLATTENED IT. THE CREW KEPT ME INFORMED ALL THE WAY, ALWAYS ASKING IF THINGS WERE OK AND DID I NEED ANYTHING CORRECTED. THEY STARTED AT 8:30 AND WERE DONE AT 2:30. THESE GUYS WERE GREAT. I'LL RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.

It went well. Justin arrived on the day he said he would, was very congenial, and delivered an estimate to me a couple of days later as he said he would. I had gotten a couple of other estimates and Justin's compared favorably with those. I decided to go with H&H because of the reviews here and my sense of their professionalism. I signed the agreement and they scheduled the job for Friday, July 11. Sarah of H&H called me on July 10 and said they were running behind on another big job and asked if we could reschedule for Monday, July 14. I checked the weather and saw that we were supposed to get heavy rains on the 14th so I asked if we could pick another day. She checked and said they could do it on Wednesday, July 16. Jeff and the crew arrived at around 9:00 on the 16th and began working. First, they removed the grass and soil around the entire perimeter of the existing driveway so they would have room to pour and finish the edges of the new driveway. I was surprised when they asked me what I wanted to them to do with the stuff they had dug out. It was at least a ton of dirt and grass. Fortunately, I had a utility trailer they could dump it on. If I had not had the trailer they would have had to have dumped it in a pile on the property somewhere, which would have been a real pain to remove. Just bear in mind, especially if it's a fairly big project, that you may have this issue. After they had done the prep work they began the patching and paving. They obviously knew what they were doing and proceeded with great efficiency. They tied everything into the barn, shed and car port perfectly and the driveway came out beautifully. The only issue I had was that there was a portion on the driveway on a fairly steep hill that did not come out as perfectly as the rest of the driveway. It had just a couple areas of slight unevenness that I was not expecting based on the perfection of the rest of the drive. Bill, one of the roller men, had told me it's difficult to get hot asphalt perfect on a grade, but I hadn't thought anything of it. I made the mistake of not doing a final inspection of the whole job before they left and was a bit disappointed by a couple of areas on the hill that were not totally smooth. I called H&H and asked them to have somebody come out and take a look at it, Jerry, the founder of the company, came out the next day. He brought a helper with a torch and tamper, which they used to reheat and smooth out the uneven areas. That helped. I am really picking a nit here, because one would have to be looking for the uneven areas to notice them. They are barely noticeable when driving over them. The lesson to be learned is that you should always do a final inspection of a project before the contractor leaves. If I had mentioned it to them before they left maybe they could have spent a few more minutes on it or at least let me know why they couldn't do any better. One of the reviewers here said that Jerry was a real jerk to them when they had an issue with the job H&H did. Based on that, I didn't quite know what to expect when Jerry showed up. I found him quite pleasant and willing to make sure that I was satisfied. The bottom line is that I can enthusiastically recommend H&H. My only advice is that you make sure to inspect everything before they leave (like with any contractor) in case you notice something they may have missed.

I cannot comment on the cost of the job, as I only went with H&H Paving because of their reviews and local work that I saw they performed in my community. I have had enough with going with the cheaper contractor and getting what I pay for, so if I have to pay extra (again I didn't look into another company, so I don't know if H&H was more pricey), I will do it and it COMPLETELY paid off! The job turned out way better than I expected. I was looking for a basic drive way off of my current original driveway to accommodate a newly built unattached garage. H&H not only installed the driveway beautifully, they attached it to my current driveway and made it look like it always existed. The workers were extremely friendly and pleasant to speak with and to my surprise they made the asphalt completely level with my current garage with no lip! I can take things out of my garage on a smooth surface now! Amazing! These guys are the best, professional and extrememly personable! I will definitely use them again in the future!

Showed up on time at 1:30pm, departed at 4pm. A great job by Foreman Jeff and entire his crew of 6-8 guys! Entire crew, new equipment, hot asphalt, and all gear showed up ready to work. Prepped all edges to grass and plants thoroughly, taking care to protect plants; removed asphalt from all areas abutting concrete driveway entry and the garage, 2 brick walkways, and the brick front steps; proceeded to lay new asphalt. Took extra care to level out all abutting areas, tamped edges at 45 degrees, rolled out and graded all areas. Finally took special care to ensure first step from driveway to brick steps were completely level and the same height as the other steps. Cleaned up and removed all debris and extra asphalt. Jeff provided final briefing for use and care. Answered all questions.

Went well. H&H brings out lots of workers and new equipment. Job was accomplished in one day

I got multiple quotes, including H&H. While H&H was at the top of the list for reviews, and were the most professional, their price was a bit higher as well. When I asked them to work with me on the price because I wanted to use them, they took a look at their schedule to find a day where they'd be doing another job nearby and were able to lower the price so I could use them. Totally happy with their work. Even have had neighbors stop and ask who I used and if I was pleased. They said they have looked at several different businesses and their jobs and that mine looked better than anyone's.

I converted from a septic tank to counter water/sewage and the water.sewage pipes went the length of my gravel drive. After that was completed I let the drive settle for a year before I did anything. When I was getting estimates to pave the drive, H&H was prompt and responsive. When I decided to contract to H&H, the workers arrived on time as scheduled, graded my gravel drive and installed asphalt. They did dump a big pile of the graded stone and dirt elsewhere on my property but perhaps I was not as clear as I should have been that I wanted that taken away. Otherwise, they did an excellent job. I am making this review a year after the work because I wanted to see how the job made it through the summer and winter.

We have a very large driveway that required extensive regrading as well as a new sub base to correct ongoing drainage problems that were a threat to our house. The new driveway not only solved our problems but looks wonderful as well. Everyone at H and H takes pride in their work and it definitely shows from start to finish. I absolutely recommend them!

My driveway had many sunken spots and had a large area that sloped to about two feel lower than the rest. The crew came with all the heavy equipment. Dug up and hauled away my old driveway and put in a new perfect driveway. They were right on time and extremely communicative about the process and worked with me to find the right solution to the large and unwanted slope. It looks great!

The team showed up and repaved the driveway. I took pictures, they were pleased to be providing a service and being watched. They had to wait a hot minute while the asphalt was delivered. They seemed very knowledgeable in the way of doing the job each person knew what needed to be done. They were truly fast and made recommendation to me, giving me a pamphlet on how to properly care for the driveway after installation. They made every attempt to address all of my concerns and explain what was being done and why it is done this way.

I felt their pricing was a little high but I used an Angie?s List coupon for $100 off. However, there was 2210 sq ft of driveway that needed repaved. They did excellent work compared to what I had done before. He came out in 9/2013 to give me the estimate. The work was done 3/27/2014. I really want to praise them because although they gave me the estimate in the fall, but I didn't want them to do the work between the leaves and snow, but they still honored the price they had given me plus $100 less with the coupon after all that amount of time. They were also very accommodating for the appointment date, as we had to re-schedule several times due to weather and need. They didn't have to stick to that price and could have raised it, but they did not. They were very professional and went above and beyond in their pricing. They did the work in a timely manner and cleaned everything up. They did a beautiful job and I will be using them to re-seal and maintain the driveway in the future.

Perfect. A convoy of equipment arrived at the time scheduled. The Bobcat removed the old asphalt and underlayment down to new earth. That surface was drum rolled to compact the surface prior to the application of the gravel. Then "Lee Boy" moved in. Lee Boy was the machine that applied the gravel in a uniform surface while the install team filled in and perfected where Lee Boy couldn't get to. That surface was also rolled. Lee Boy wasn't done yet. While they were cleaning Lee Boy, the dump truck arrived with the fresh asphalt and filled Lee Boy with the required load and he took off again to lay down the perfect surface of new tarmac. That surface was smoothed to the same level as the garage floor with the other roller and the driveway was graded so that the water that they applied as a test flowed to the street and down the drain as designed. Perfect. I will try to load pictures later. Lee Boy is a cool piece of engineering and I have created a Powerpoint presentation set to the song "Hallelujah" that is appropriate to the job done.

This is a tough review to write. I love the final product, but it was hard to get. First, the office staff is great and the crew that did the work couldn't be better. The owner isn't so great. We had a problem with "undesirable base" on my project, which means that when they removed the old concrete driveway the ground beneath was soft. Instead of handling it in a professional way, the owner was a complete jerk and kept complaining to me that he was going to have to come back to finish the job. He even threatened to take me to court and put a lean against my house when I asked him why I would pay full price for a job that wasn't complete. There was no need to go from 0 to 100 on the anger scale just because I asked a question. He threatened and intimidated and complained about the extra time it would take him to do the job. Never mind that my price went up $2k because of this situation, it was all about him. He was rude, demanding, and totally unprofessional. To be fair, he called back the same afternoon and apologized, and he worked to make the situation better. The crew did come back a month later after the ground dried and they finished the job - for the additional and unexpected cost. The final product looks amazing and they did a job that exceeded my expectations. The crew was wonderful to work with and the office staff did everything they could to work the job into the schedule before it got too cold. My only complaint is the owner, and the way he handled the situation. He did work to make it better, but watch out for the temper! Even after this experience, I recommend them and would use them again.

My experience went very well. The staff was professional and knowledgeable in their field. The pricing was reasonable and I was pleased with the outcome of the service. I would recommend this company to others.

These guys did a fantastic job repaving our driveway. Their work was outstanding, very thorough and professional. The technicians were courteous and on time. I would strongly recommend them.
