Met with Gordon, about painting a property I was about to sell, he took very detailed measurements, was very thorough and had an estimate together in minutes. Very professional, and when I had to cancel because of a âas-isâ offer, they were true to their word. I got my entire deposit back, with a smile. Excellent company to work with. Highly recommend.

Background: The project, begun in Fall '16, was to replace rotting wood trim on 3rd floor of our town home w/ PVC, then paint the 3rd floor and the entire back of the house. I requested estimates from 3 companies; 5 Star Painting's Senior Estimator, Gordon Kownack, provided the most comprehensive and through estimate, so I chose 5 Star Painting. The project got off to a good start with 5 Star assigning and introducing me to the project manager named Kat. The initial team of workers removed the rotting wood and prepped the surface of the house quickly and efficiently. The problems began and continued throughout the project with the painting and installation crew, who 5 Star Painting sub-contracted to a person named Donal and his team. Kat remained the project manager throughout the job. The painting and installation by Donal's team was very shoddy, with several PVC boards either damaged or misaligned during installation, and seams between PVC boards, instead of being snug, having gaps filled with putty. One example is that Donal's team reinstalled five PVC boards on the upper portion of the side of the house vertically misaligned with those on the lower side. While Donal's team did fix the damaged and misaligned PVC boards, he did so reluctantly and only AFTER I, not the project manager Kat, pointed out the problems. I expect contractors to do their work the right way the first time, without me needing to point out substandard work to the project manager or contractors. Placing the PVC boards without first checking the alignment was - at best - lazy and unprofessional. Last, there was a cold snap lasting several days during the project that interfered with the final application of paint. The project manager Kat wanted Donal's team to return to finish the job. I pointed out the instructions included on the paint can called for at least three days of post-application surface temperatures above freezing, in order for the paint to dry properly. Kat insisted otherwise, and it took several terse phone conversations to get this point through to Kat, that I wanted to wait until warmer temperatures were forecast before completing the job. By this time I determined that continuing this project with 5 Star Painting was not worth the energy and effort, paid them for the work done to date, and had another contractor complete the job. In the past month, less than a year after installation, I found several boards warped and peeling away from the side of the house, and hired a third contractor - in retrospect, one I should have hired in the first place - to repair and replacing the warped PVC boards. During this job, that contractor showed me Donal's team used nails, not screws, to install PVC boards into the cinderblock house wall. The boards not being securely fastened to the wall contributed to the boards warping and pulling away from the wall. In addition, this third contractor also showed me that caulking done by Donal's team was faulty, with ga
