The experience was excellent. Ray, the owner, sent me some samples and then met with me to discuss the different types of grass. He was precise and educated me with the product. He was very knowledgeable with the product. What was most impressive, he explained the whole process of installing the turf and the maintenance. After speaking with other providers, it was pretty evident that Eastern Lawn and Landscape was the provider to go with. From installation to the finished project, they were very professional. They touched base with me to provide status on project, which was completed within the time frame I wanted. Overall, they were excellent.

As a consequence of adopting 2 rescue dogs who were turning our back yard into a mud pit, we contacted Eastern Lawn and Landscaping about installing artificial turf. Ray Fisher provided an excellent overview of the pros and cons of artificial turf, as well as samples of the different options available. I had a concern about the surface temperatures during times when the sun was directly on the turf, since I had heard that they could reach over 100. Ray explained that the surface temperature is a function of the ballast material that is used to "weigh down" the turf. He explained that large, rough-use applications like school ball fields often use a black rubber ballast, which causes surfaces temps to get very high. Eastern uses a white sand ballast for residential applications, which keeps the surface temps down. Now, when the summer sun is shining directly on the turf, it does get too hot to walk on in your bare feet. But the turf can be cooled quickly by hosing it down. And as soon as the sun moves on, the temp drops fairly quickly. But my dogs don't seem to be bothered by the surface temperature, even in the sun. They love running and rolling around on it. I think it may even be beneficial for my middle-aged dog who loves to chase balls, because it has just a little bit of a cushiony characteristic that may be easier on his joints than pounding the hard ground. We arranged for the installation, and everything went exactly as planned. The 2-man crew arrived on time, explained what they would be doing, and got straight to work. The installation is very labor-intensive, but these guys are obvious pros! The job went flawlessly. 2-year update: We've added a 3rd rescue dog to the household, and the turf is still holding up beautifully. I've had people ask to see our artificial turf, and they're totally amazed when I tell them they're standing on it. This is the best thing in the world for people with dogs....or with areas too shady to grow grass. It's not an inexpensive solution, but it's worth every penny.
