I purchased a Living Social coupon to surprise my husband and spare him one painting job. I scheduled the job and agreed to additional charges for the trim and doors. Because our room was so small 5 x 8", I assumed the 18" x 36" linen closet would be included and sent an email to confirm. That began a series of less-than-professional conversations and emails. The owner forgot our original conversation about trim painting and never included it in our contract. We paid an additional $185 for the trim plus $45 for fuel for painting three doors (one side) and trim in this tiny laundry room. In the end, all costs totaled, we spent over $300 for this laundry space. The evening before our appointment, the owner called to say one of their trucks broke down and she needed to reschedule. I said fine. In reality, I think there is only one truck. As a result, we were added on to the end of work on a subsequent day. The painter arrived around 4 and my husband sent him home just before 9. When I arrived home from travel the following day, I was shocked to see a MESS. It looked as though an armateur had dribbled painted on parts of the doors, and then cleaned brushes on the edges--but didn't do more than 1/3 of each door or any trim. Crazy. He came back late two days later after my husband had requested no more late appointments. The owner said she couldn't mess up other customer's appointments for us. We finally sent the painter home again when it was clear that he would be there for hours if we didn't. I will add that the color of our room and trim made painting challenging, but I was never asked about this before the work began. In the end, she sent a note and apologized for not asking about the color and thanked us for being accomodating of their transporattion problems. This was after we paid becasue I didn't want to spent months quarreling ove the mess;I had hoped for a good experience and a respite for my husband. I had hoped to support a woman-owned business. Sorry that didn't happen.

Response from Closet Prep & Paint, LLC
This client purchased a living social coupon which was to be used to paint the walls only of one 12 x 12 room. The fine print of the coupon detailed that it was not to be used for bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, stairwells, etc but it could be used on regular rooms like bedrooms, living rooms etc. I agreed to paint the laundry room even though the coupon was not for that kind of room. Additionally, the fine print stated that the coupon is for the painting of the walls only with two coats of paint. Painting ceilings, moldings, doors, windows, priming surfaces and drywall repairs are extra. The client never mentioned the fact that the whole room including the ceiling, walls, base and door had been previously painted primary green. Their job took longer than expected and took 2 days, because it had to be primed before it could be painted which was not part of the "deal" they purchased and never even mentioned it during our consultation. The client also expected us to paint a closet in the laundry room, which we agreed to do even though it was not part of the deal. The client was told that their job was scheduled for a 1/2 day and paired with another job in their area since they were only doing one room. We can paint one room in 4 hours and pair those types of jobs with another 1 room deal so we can maximize the use of our trucks and personnel. This client was also told that we expected to arrive at their location in the afternoon between 1-3. We arrived at 4. Yes, we had one truck break down and had to reschedule this client's job, but it was rescheduled within a couple of days. It happens. It's extremely rare, but the one time it happened, I guess it happened to the wrong person who found it completely unacceptable that we would have the audacity to have our truck break down on the day of their job. People who purchase "deals" on line need to read the fine details of the "deal" and be aware of what the "deal" covers and what it does not. Yes, we limit our coupons to just the painting of the walls. Everything else is extra. Why should a person who has brand new walls that don't need drywall repairs be charged for that service? Should we be required to give away all our services for the price of $89 living social deal. We do everything humanly possible to exceed our clients expectations. We did everything possible to make this client happy even though her whole job did not meet the coupon requirements. We have hundreds of clients who all say we are very professional and exceeded their expectations. You can read their surveys on the testimonial page of our website at www.closetprepandpaint.com. I hope you will take into the account the comments of our hundreds of happy clients.

I am incredibly upset with this company and would absolutely not recommend them to anyone! My husband and I bought a Living Social deal, $90 for them to paint a 12x12 room. My first impression with them was not good, when I called to schedule the paint job they “recommended” up charges to everything (ranging from $50-$125 for each service). These up charges included: painting the inside of the window, filling nail holes, etc. When I declined such additional services I felt the receptionist was irritated that we would not be buying more than our deal. Our contract was sent to us just a few days prior to the paint job, although we called well before to schedule. When we received the contract the very first bullet point was in a large font, bold and in all caps stating “TIPS ARE APPRECIATED ON THESE DEALS SINCE WE DISCOUNT TO 70%OFF OUR RETAIL PRICE”. They chose to offer the Living Social deal so I thought for the very first bullet point to say this was very distasteful let alone, unprofessional. As for the actual paint job: The painter asked me to fill out a review when he finished but did not suggest I look at the final job first. After seeing his work I understand why. There was the room color paint on the baseboard. When asked about it he tried to wipe it off which actually removed the baseboard paint completely. I started looking around them room and realized there were multiple spots like this. It was only was I addressed my concern did he say he would touch them up, if I had baseboard paint. The baseboard now looks spotty because they were not evenly painted. There were wet paint marks on the wall which looked textured from the roller, having painted before I knew that these should not look this way if they were going to dry evenly. I was assured by the painter that these would dry flat, alas, they did not. The room looks like an amateur painted it. This was a terrible, terrible experience. If the customer service was better I would have called and spoken with them directly however, since every interaction I have had with them has been negative/disappointing I am choosing to let others know to beware!
