I originally met with Jesse in Feb/March to decide on a possible coffered ceiling or beamed ceiling layout. I had a difficult time making up my mind and Don, who was my main POC, was extremely patient. I wanted a rustic, yet refined look so we ended up deciding on a stain-grade ceiling that would be stained gray so the grain would show through. It turned out beautiful and everyone that sees it in person can't believe how well it matches the fireplace and how unique it is. Chris and the team did a fantastic job.
Description of Work: We had a coffered ceiling installed and a beam removed that separated the family room and kitchen.

When I went in to meet with Rob, I had a concept of what I wanted to achieve concerning creating a new home office area. Rob took my idea and really turned it into something more than I had expected and was remarkably happy with the outcome. Rob (and Benton) did a great job drafting the design and making alterations to get to the final drawings. Once that was finalized, the installation went very well (about two days) and one thing I did observe is how meticulous his installers were. Needless to say, the results turned out remarkably nice. I was initially concerned a bit about the price but I can readily admit that, given the quality of what they did, it was worth the money. The only one item to note is I did have to follow up to remind them to get me updated drawings or schedule dates - but other than that it went remarkably well. NOTE that at the time of this writing I have employed Contemporary Woodcrafts again to install a bookcase library system for my den to be installed in the coming weeks. Rob did a great job to help realize the bookcase design given constraints on the budget for this project.

Rob and Benton know their craft, and their installer, Herman, is a true artisan. The biggest concern was with wrong measurements - none of the CD shelves fit when they were delivered, and it took several deliveries to get it right and to get all the shelves to the house. In addition, the measurement of the cabinets didn't clear the light switch and Rob had to come out and install a trimmed-down plastic switch plate because there wasn't sufficient room for the normal size plate we had chosen. Communication: While they were eager to get the design '"right," there was often a lag of several weeks between email responses, which was frustrating. We are basically pleased with the design, although I'm not 100% sold on the recommendation to use doors and drawers on one of the walls instead of all shelves A couple suggestions: 1- ask for a bigger paint sample. The color chips from which we needed to make a selection of the finish on the cabinets were small, maybe 3" x 3". It would have been more helpful to have a larger sample to give us a more accurate idea of the way that color would look in a room with 3 entire walls of cabinetry. 2- get an exact delivery date. It was difficult to get an exact date for the installation - which was a problem because we had to contract the preparatory work ourselves (painting, demolition, electrical and plumbing work), and ended up having very little time to make those arrangements. Having sad that, the cabinets are very nice - so it's hard to be too critical when the work ultimately turned out so well.

We selected Contemporary Woodcraft to do some built-ins for our finished basement. We met with Rob Grant, the owner, in their showroom and based on some rough measurements of our space Rob was able to show us a preliminary plan immediately. We were able to work with Rob on the spot using their planning software to make some tweaks and get it very close to what we wanted. We were presented with an estimate based on the initial plan and viewed a few floor samples to get an idea of the quality of the craftsmanship. We didn’t feel any sales pressure during the process and only got one follow up call a few days later from Rob. Overall the initial consultation was great and gave us the opportunity to bounce some thoughts off of him directly. Once we decided to go ahead with CW, we paid a $500 deposit for a copy of the plan and for Rob to come out to our home and take more exact measurements. Upon arriving, Rob quickly noticed that the drywall work in our basement was not square and indicated that the job may be a little more difficult. We received an updated detailed plan from CW based on our more exact measurements. Rob was great as we made a few rounds of revisions to the plan. Due to some of the changes we made the price did increase but Rob provided us with an itemized list of the costs which allowed us to prioritize what things we really wanted. Once the plan was finalized and we paid our deposit, CW moved quickly to build our unit. The construction took significantly less time than we expected, which we were pleased about. We were able to coordinate a time for installation that worked for us and CW. Given the size of the job we were told installation would take two full days. However, when the installer arrived they discovered that our drywall was significantly more uneven than they had thought. What was supposed to be a two day install turned into four full days of work as CW had to build some framing to connect the pieces to the wall, return some pieces back to the shop to be altered and work around our uneven drywall. What could have been an unpleasant experience was really not so bad. CW never tried to increase our invoice even though the labor time was more than twice what they expected. The installer was very professional and courteous and we could tell he wanted to get the work done correctly, even staying until 8 pm on more than one night. The finished product looks great, exactly like we expected it to and although it took a little longer to finish the job we couldn’t be more pleased. We would definitely recommend them to our friends.

Jesse Cline at Brave Construction is AMAZING! When he first came to talk to me about doing some custom trim work in my 11,000 square foot home under construction, some young, adorable, cheerful guy showed up when I was expecting a crusty old construction worker. I was immediately skeptical of his experience until he rolled out these Leonardo da Vinci quality hand drawings of work he and his father had done. We started small with some crown moulding but the more trim work he did, the more we had him do. Our $5,000 project morphed to, literally, ten times that amount. But the value it has added to our house goes well beyond that. Jesse has a gift for taking ordinary trim and making extraordinary. He does wonderful work and is VERY reasonably priced. One of the first things Jesse did was to take down a coffered ceiling in the family room that the builder had done, replacing it with a coffered masterpiece! After we saw that. we were hooked. Then, he did some corbels in the family room, then dining room wainscoting, more crown moulding, and it just went on from there. No room was too small or too ordinary to escape Jesse's gift for detail. He was so reasonably priced that even the mud room got built-ins for shoes, gloves and coats. The longer he stayed at the house, the more work I had for him. His new nick-name is "Jesse, God of Trim". We absolutely love Jesse and his crew.

We came across an advertisement for Contemporary Woodcrafts in the Angie's List magazine. We had been searching for the right company to provide custom wood cabinets and shelving for our fireplace area. After checking out their website and a visit to their showroom, we knew they were the perfect fit for our project. Our house has unusually low ceilings so we needed custom sized products, but wanted a polished, finished, furniture-like look. CW put together a plan-view and three dimensional drawing of our space, then completed a field visit to measure before production. After just a few weeks they installed our cabinets, shelves and a custom mantel. The results are fabulous and we were very pleased with the service and quality. The price was slightly higher than our original budget, but you definitely get what you pay for ... we are delighted.

I have hired Brave Construction for a small project before I hired them for hardwood flooring. But this time everything seemed to have gone foul. This company seems to have chewed more than they could bite. First, whenever I tried to contact the owner Jess Cline, I had to call or email him a few times to get a response back in a day or two. Second, the rate went up compared to the first contract. Third, his staff showed up LATE without any apology and with an attitude. When I told them I was late for work in a polite and calm manner, the supervisor started to throw a fit and gave me a long reason why he was late. He appeared to be under a lot of pressure to fulfill a lot of job contracts. He stormed off without doing any work. I had to call Jess and he "sort of" apologized. Then I had to schedule another day off work for them to come in. When they returned, the supervisor apologized. But I was not very happy with the quality of the work. The space between the boards are too wide. It is a click and lock, but the store display showed that the space could have be minimized. They just slacked off. Finally when they finished, they did not clean the floor. They vacuumed the floor, but left a haze finish that made the floor look dull and dirty. When I inquired the supervisor about the haze, he explained it was caused by a floor cleaning product he used and told me clean it. HELLO? I told him that they should clean it because he had created the mess, but he said he didn't have time and called Jess Cline for permission. They were behind their schedule apparently. He finally agreed to clean up the floor as he should, but did it with an attitude. I I was going to hire them for another home improvement project, but changed my mind after this experience. I would never hired them again. This company expanded too quickly and lost its integrity completely. Lesson Learned: If your neighbors hired a contractor, it is better NOT to hire the same one because the contractor is likely to assume that they had the deal and would not work as hard.

I contacted the company via their website and had an appointment in their office the following week. We walked into the office, saw exactly what we wanted, and put down a deposit. We didn't look around much since we saw exactly what we wanted here, so I'm not sure how they compare on price. I'm not good at picturing how things will look in electronic drawings, so it was useful to have a bunch of pictures of other work they had done. Best to look at their website before your appointment and have a good idea of what you would like. The owner did the initial drawing and came to our house a few weeks later to do the measurements (drawing was based on our own measurements). He did say from the time we signed the contract to the installation would be five weeks, but we were caught slightly off guard when we called to follow up on an installation date around that 5 week time and they had a date selected. They were able to work with us on a new date, but basically, they don't have the room to store, so it had to be done quickly. My advice: be proactive in your follow up after you've signed the contract. Also, plan to be home for full installation process. It only took them a few hours to install, but they had questions. Subcontractors were used, but they were professional and experienced. Unit looks awesome. I had high expectations and they were exceeded. Will definitely use again for any future projects.

I was disappointed because they did not tell me that Bamboo looks different when it is raw material vs. when it is made into a cabinet. The vanities didn't look anything like the wood that I chose in the showroom. I felt that the owner, Rob Grant, who I worked with talked down to me and treated me like I should have known better. The sales representative was happy to help me but the owner was not. They also let the doors sit in their office for over a week before they delivered them which I felt was very deceptive, especially because they told me several times they didn't have them yet. One of the doors didn't match the other ones and it took so long to get a replacement that I have just given up on them.

Member has since responded via email she is very happy with the final outcome. I have asked her to change this report however she has not complied to the request. That said, we are baffled by her complaint that she was unaware and ill informed of the bamboo finish she selected. Not only did it match what she ordered, but more importantly, we do not have any, nor have ever displayed any, "unfinished bamboo" in our showroom. Despite these misconceptions, we made every conceivable effort to satisy and meet her expectations by providing at no additional cost, additional parts and service. There is nothing we could have done better.

Member, Thank you for the order and the "A" rating. Although you seem to fully understand, please allow me to further explain our contract: After 27 years in business, our contract has evolved in response to customer: changes, delays, long term storage requests, late payment, no payment, cancellations, general contractor issues, insurance claims, mis-leading statements, etc., etc.... You can't imagine! Back in 1984, when I started this business, it seemed so simple.... "We do great work, on time- you provide payment as agreed" The contract had literally 3 terms listed. That said, it is no less than "very interesting" to be witness to all the other possibilities so many years later. Like yourself, 99% of our clients are so very happy and there is no issue whatsoever. And, certainly those who ask questions and/or belong to Angies List are typically never a problem. This is why I had no concern editing for you and to make you feel especially comfortable with your purchase. However, having had some very questionable ethics from those few clients thoughout many years, has caused the additional contract terms. Like a very bad, behaved student in a classroom (I was once a teacher), they can make doing equitable and fair business miserable and take up all your time. Frankly, I wish it wasn't so and every person was honorable and reasonable. The fact is, a well defined and agreed contract, is the best for both parties involved. To this date, we really try to uphold the same, simple values as defined from the start of this business. And our cabinets will typically last the life of your home. Again, thank you for your business from all those involved- our cabinetmakers, installers and production/design employees. Signed, Rob Grant

It was amazing. These guys were wonderful. They told us when they would show up, they showed up on time. They told us how many hours they would work and they did it. They finished the whole thing in a week. And that was including the changes I made in the design. I had them install lights behind some of the cases. This spans wall to wall. They guys themselves were so wonderful. They were nice and pleasant. It's the best experience we've had with any contractor. I would recommend to the anyone and everyone.

Overall it was a very pleasant experience. Rob and associates were very professional and easy to work with. The delivery of the cabinet was a little late due to the driver getting lost, but the showroom kept in touch with me providing updates of 'the driver's location and anticipated arrival. I live in a condo building and it was a very heavy lift for them to carry the cabinet inside, but they treated the building and my home with respect. The cabinet is very large and the installation was a full day event. The installer was professional and cleaned up his work area. I whole heartedly recommend using Contemporary Woodcrafts.
Description of Work: Rob designed a preliminary drawing of a wall to wall cabinet based on my measurements and my ideas of what I wanted the cabinet to look like and my functional needs. A few weeks later Rob came to my home, took accurate measurements and provided design advice based on his years of experience. The cabinet was delivered and installed within eight weeks.

It went fine and they did a great job of measuring and designing it. In fact, I am thinking of using them again in another room. The price wasn't great, but I think we got the value.
Description of Work: Contemporary Woodcrafts did built-in cabinets on one whole end of our living room.
This was an absolutely terrific experience. The process went as follows: (1) approximate design and rough estimate with the owner (2) small initial deposit (3) owner came out and measured, finalized design (4) 1/2 fee due before production (5) site visit by production manager (6) installation and final fee paid. My experience with the owner, production manager, and installer exceeded my expectations. My family and I are thrilled with the quality of the built-in and the attention to detail.

We met at their showroom for our appointment with the materials they requested we bring. After one minute of explaining our desired changes to an existing built-in bookshelf unit, the company representative exclaimed "We don't do that!" His rude, dismissive manner was a shock. Since we had traveled one hour to reach the showroom, we stayed and looked at their new, semi-custom built-in systems. The quality and price are equivalent and the finished products in the showroom look nice. Within one hour, the representative developed a quick layout for a new built-in unit, it was attractive and the price was fine. However, we did not enjoy working with the representative, consequently, we would not consider working with this company.

Unfortunately, the homeowner was looking to retrofit existing cabinetry and we do not perform this function. We are a local cabinet manufacturer, providing our own, new product and designs. Again, unfortunately, it is not what the homeowner wanted to "hear" upon their arrival and yes, it was certainly a waste of their travel time. This, I believe, is the cause of an upset reaction. At no time did we suggest or promote that we can retrofit and/or fix existing shelves. During the initial, phone appointment conversation this most important factor of existing condtions and particular need was not provided by the homeowner. Nevertheless, we spent the balance of the time designing our product to fit their space as an alternative, but it was not in their budget per response. Certainly, no one was "rude"..... I was there :-)
