Service was great as was the technician that came out! I bought the deal and had my tune up within a week or so. Good deal at $39 for something that can cost over $100. I would use them again.

The service turned out fine. The gentleman though that came out didn't know what was in the Big Deal until, and actually he wasn't going to give me all the stuff that was listed so I had to give him proof of what was listed and he had to call his business and approve it. The initial information that was given on the Big Deal was wrong, apparently it was somebody's private work email that they had given and phone number. So I was calling and everything and leaving messages and never getting a call back because they didn't know or something. After it was a week and a half they called me and then they scheduled a week later, because it was like three weeks. The technician I talked to didn't seem to seem to know a lot whole about what he was talking about because we ended up getting an air conditioner and an air handler as a result of this deal. When we had the quote, even the guy who came out gave us contradictory stuff from what the technician told us.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $39 HVAC System Check or Service Call from ARS / Rescue Rooter Manassas - 9201. They checked out the air conditioning unit and they cleaned the coil and the air handler which he made sure that it was accessible.

I've been doing business with ARS for 25+ years. I have to say though that I'm cutting my ties. Their service is hit or miss, depending on the technician. After FH Furr really messed up on following up on an install (I will never use them again), I went back to ARS having had nothing but success with them over 20+ years. But that has changed. Two years ago a tech came out because our heat didn't come on (in it's 2nd season - don't buy a Trane either). He said the diagnostic code showed the flame sensor was bad and was shutting the system off before it started because it wasn't sensing sensing the flame (it's a little metal rod that looks just like a small hex wrench). He had to order a new one. Days later he installed it. Guess what, no dice. Said he had to order another one. Wrong. 3rd visit, 2 new flame sensors and still no heat. Finally ordered a new circuit board, which fixed it. But 4 visits? Two guys came out for regular Spring maintenance. Excellent guys, Very knowledgeable, very nice. Wish they could come out every time. If they did, I'd still be with ARS. Last week our AC went out (again, stay away from Trane!). They came out the next day, but the guy spent most of the time on the phone asking someone else for help. Said the circuit board was bad (again?) had to order another one, and another fan. A WEEK later the part came in and he installed it. But he didn't order everything he needed, and admitted that it was his fault. So now we have to wait ANOTHER week to get the other parts. So now I'm thinking, what if this happened in July or August? I called to complain and tell them that I wanted another tech, and I wanted the parts shipped the next day, and that I wasn't going to wait another week because he didn't order everything he needed. The nice lady on the phone understood and said that the manager was gone for the day and he would be in contact with me the next day. Guess what? Next day came - no one called. Lastly, when he came out, he was more than 2 hours late. Honestly, I'm ok with that. But the least they could do was to call us and let us know they were running HOURS behind schedule. But I had to call them. Three strikes. And now I'm back on Angie's List looking for another HVAC contractor who is reliable and won't take two weeks with multiple visits (not to mention how much of an inconvenience it is to us) to fix the problem. I honestly lost confidence in them, and I don't want to have this happen when it's 90+ degrees in July and August, or below 30 degree is December and January.

We used an Angies List deal to have ARS give us a spring AC checkup before things got too hot. The tech came out later that week, provided an extremely thorough inspection of the unit, gave us some helpful tips for the unit's operation (such as where to set our humidifier, which of the variety of filters we have will work the best with our units) and then gave us a diagnosis. The technician took as much time as needed to make sure that our two AC units were working well. We were down on refrigerant, which the tech replenished for us. Refrigerant is not cheap, but I know that's why ARS runs these deals, and it's what we were expecting. Will absolutely use these guys again.
Description of Work: Inspected both AC units in our house, both inside and the compressors outside. Determined that one unit was low on refrigerant. Located the refrigerant leak around the coils. Recharged the refrigerant.

ARS sent Mr. Brandon Henderson to perform the service. This young man really takes pride in his work. The work more than exceeded my expectations. This was the most comprehensive check up of my air conditioning system I have had in the 9 years I had this system to include from the company who installed it (I no longer use.) He found and fixed a burnt wire. He took panels off that previous technicians had never removed. He provided me with tips on what I could do as a homeowner to keep my HVAC running smoothly. So impressed with the service call and this young man.

I called in a service request on a Saturday morning at 9am. I was happy to hear they could accomodate a visit on the same day. Unfortunately no scheduled window. Not a problem. I was happy to see somebody on a Saturday. I was advised that a consultation fee of $89.00 would by applied to come out. Now, I am a plumber and My Company is also on Angie's List. Most of the plumbing companies in my market do free estimates including us, so when I heard of a $89.00 fee to come out, I was taken a back, but I let it go. I guess that's the HVAC market and trip charges are a must. Moving to the visit by the tech. He was a friendly man. It was raining when he arrived, so in the effort to get the project started, he gave me a courtesy call stating that he was outside and waiting for the rain to subside and asked a couple diagnostics questions like if I had changed the air filter in my unit, if I knew which outside unit was mine (I live in a condo) and if I knew how old my unit was. I was admittedly of little help, so when the rain stopped, the tech stepped in to my condo, went strait to the AC, shined a flash light and started discussing the need for a replacement system, financing options and monthly payment numbers. The tech was right about one thing. My inside unit is old. In fact, it is 13 years old. My guess is that in the AC world, anything past 10 years means take the unit out back and out it out if its misery ......kinda brutal if you ask me, for replacing the AC is easily the third greatest expense a home owner will endure after the roof and the underground sewer. The tech pushed h****** setting up a tuesday visit with a Comfort Specialist so we could discuss my options and financing. I kinda felt this whole thing got way outa a hand really quickly with out much to show for it. The only diagnostics he did was shine a light on a unit that looked like a car radiator with copper tubbing off the side. He saw a couple chunks of ice on the bottom of the radiator and rust in the copper tubes or coils. That in combination with the age of the unit was enough to go in to full replacement discussions. I stated that this problem happened last year and that a Free-On recharge was enough last time. He explained that a free on recharge is wasting money and that he still recommended a replacement. We them moved on to how expensive R-22 free on was, what it does for us and the environment & then we moved in to Man Made Global Warming........Oh Boy.... I thanked the kind tech for his concerns and asked him to do a Free-On Recharge and send out his Comfort Specialist some time next week so we can discuss my options and I can start a savings plan so to buy the thing outright when I was ready. He agreed and did the service. Then came payment time.......I then come to find out that the $89.00 is not a charge if info not accept their recommendations, it is a charge above and beyond the repair. Ok, now that floored me. That makes no sense. Its one or the other, Not Both. So word of precaution to my fellow Angies list members, you are advised of a $89.00 consultation fee. REMEMBER that any quote for service is the quote PLUS the $89.00 Consultation fee. I was quoted $347.00 for a free On refill and at the time of payment I was showed with a $436.00 Invoice ($347.00 + $89.00). SHAME ON YOU ARS. That IS NOT smart business. I mention not the name of the tech for all and all, I liked him. Unfortunately, I did feel he had his interests and that of his company as his true north and above mine, his customer. Smart business dictates otherwise. The customer may not be always right, but their very best interest is the reason WHY you are in business and will stay in business for the longs run. FINAL NOTE: The Free On recharge is working. My Condo cooled down quick. It seems to be a 12-18 month ritual to need to recharge. I will start planning for a New one.

Pros - They responded within a day (asked on Friday and they responded on Saturday) They fixed the problem (replaced the dual run capacitor) Cons - The price! I understand that everyone needs to make money. I get it. The worker arrived at 11:56 and was gone less than 40 minutes later. Price breakdown - $89 - to show up $277 - to replace the part $366 total A quick internet search showed that I can get the part for less than $50. remove and reconnect 4 wires... I can't help but feel that this repair was completely overpriced. Sorry ARS but I won't be using you again. Your prices are outside of my definition or reasonable.

I was very pleased with the thoroughness, professionalism, and overall courteousness of the personnel. I plan to use them again.
Description of Work: Inspected a/c system as advertised and thoroughly cleaned a very dirty air handler. Also discovered a sizable leak in hot water heater tank and arranged for replacement, which was completed promptly. Total cost was for 2-1/2 hours air handler cleaning plus a one-year service contract covering heating, a/c, and water heater plus the new water heater and installation.

Originally, I'd called and spoken to Melissa to verify that someone would still be coming out - it was raining cats and dogs. I wasn't sure if the diagnostics and adjustments would be able to be made with the current weather conditions. But, I was assured that it would be fine, and that a tech was on the way. About 15 minutes later, Corey Sr. showed up. He was friendly and courteous, came inside, wiped his feet on the mud rug, and immediately put on his shoe covers. My furnace and A/C exchange were in the attic, so Corey went upstairs, and with the assistance of his ladder, showed off his acrobatic ability and shimmied himself up into the attic. When he emerged, he showed me the pictures he'd taken of the equipment, and explained what he'd done, advised me of the usual shelf life on the existing equipment and informed me that everything was in working order (whew!). He then checked and adjusted the thermostat, and when outside in the rain to check and run diagnostics on the A/C unit. Again, everything was found to be in working order for the A/C unit. When the service call was nearing an end, he advised me of their service plan, and some different options available for filters that would almost eliminate allergens in my home. He left me with information, but was not pushy about it, and it was not a hard-sell. Corey Sr. was knowledgeable, professional, and very pleasant to work with. He explained his processes thoroughly and answered every question I posed, even making suggestions on alternative options. I would definitely use ARS again because of Corey Sr.

Bernie came out and did the $39 inspection and found that the refrigerant was low and the evaperator coil needed cleaning. He showed me the coil and the refrigerant reading before the work was performed. He was professional, very polite, thorough and cleaned up after the work was done. I've used ARS several times (I'm a Realtor) and I recommend them.

After being stood up by another company, I contacted ARS about 7:30 PM. The on-call gentleman was in contact with me within 30 minutes and was at my door by 9 PM. Apparently it was an easy fix, and he thoroughly explained why it happened. He showed me how to prevent the problem in the future. He was very friendly and personable, and didn't even mind my dogs "helping" him. My only "complaint" is that they haven't put in the check that I gave him at the time of this review (5.1.14).

We had purchased our new furnace & AC unit a few years ago from ARS after using them for a service contract on the old units for 7-8 years. The service contract gives priority service, so they called to schedule our spring check and included the AC unit cleaning. The service technician noted how we should clean the AC unit with a hose ourselves to ensure it was not clogged with lint, and gave the system a routine check. He called ahead of time and was within the first part of the assigned service window.

On Friday she emailed us and told us she is overseas and would like to have the unit serviced, We reached out to her sister as requested and scheduled the service accordingly. Had [member name removed] provided us a number where she could be reached we would have been happy to schedule the appointment accordingly.
