We have been with them for 25 years. They have always sent really respectable folks out. They communicate clearly. The only downside I have had is there were a couple of times they made a mistake of sending a salesperson instead of technician or technician/salesperson who try to sell us new equipment. We know the CEO because we have been with them for so long so we called him up and told him to stop that. He apologized and said the he would never do it again. They are always available. They were late a couple of times. They have been really good. I can reach out to one of the companies if I want if I have a problem.
Description of Work: I use ARS for our heating and air conditioning services. I am on a contract with them so every six months, they have to come by and do a service of my heating and cooling.

We returned from vacation to discover our main level A/C was not cooling. I called ARS to request a service call which was scheduled for the following day. A scheduler called me back an hour later to say the repair tech was on his way. He determined the problem was a weak compressor and a temporary solution was a capacitor booster. He advised me that the repair was not going to last long term and recommended considering replacement of the system. He scheduled a sales rep for the next morning and William Gifft provided a very attractive price to replace both my upper and lower level systems with more efficient units and I accepted his proposal. He scheduled the work for the following week and 2 trucks with 2 teams showed on 9:30 AM as promised and got straight to work. They did a terrific job and were finished by 2:30 PM and I was delighted with the results. The following day began a severe heat wave which lasted for 2 weeks and I could not be happier with the performance of my new HVAC systems. Both of the digital auto setback thermostats have performed very well in maintaining a consistent temperature throughout the entire house. I recommend ARS without reservation for both repair and/or replacement of your heating or cooling systems.

I thought we would have to wait awhile and suffer through many 80-90 degree days, but they were able to come out right away! We called on a Saturday, they came out the following Monday to discuss paperwork/financing, and they did the job the next day on Tuesday. In addition to the HVAC system, we also had them install an air scrubber. Within 6 hours they were able to replace the outside unit, the AC, and the furnace, and install the air scrubber.
Description of Work: Our AC coils were leaking badly on an older unit, and we needed a new HVAC system right away.

I called ARS when my air conditioner stopped working on a Saturday afternoon during a heat wave. They sent out a technician that evening who quickly diagnosed the problem and repaired the unit at a reasonable price.

I made an appointment for 2:30 pm However, I wanted a quote prior to arrival on parts and labor. I wanted just Freon placed into my unit. They called at 9:30 pm informed me a Tech. would be at my home in 45 minutes. Unable to give quote over phone. They arrived at 10:00 pm.

Brad was clear in explaining his recommendation, including showing photos. He gave the estimate on a Friday and was back in a week to install. Brad and his team were on time, polite, and efficient. The third floor of my townhouse is noticeably cooler. The whole process was very easy.

I signed up for 2 x $49 discounted heat pump/ac system inspections and they scheduled to come out quickly a few days later. The rep came punctually and was friendly and respectful. He seemed to be pretty well informed/ knowledgeable and answered a few questions I had. The inspections went pretty well and he didn't propose anything I thought unnecessary. He was able to diagnose a failing (but functioning) capacitor. He offered to replace it for $384! I declined the 15x mark-up! While contractors are entitled to mark-up materials to cover their costs, it's a $25 (retail) part. Additionally, the only additional labor would be to further loosen two screws to replace the capacitor since he already had the access panel open. I ordered it and replaced it my self in 10 minutes a few days later. I'm not sure if the tech or the company dictates the price but that's gouging! Second problem I had was that I realized he never hooked up a pressure manifold to check the refrigerant pressure. He diagnosed it by temperature differential. I called him a few minutes after he left, when I realized he didn't do it, he answered that " I don't do that for a $49 check-up, only the $89 check-ups". If I had known that I was getting a scaled down inspection, I would have gone with another provider that charges the same price but thoroughly checks the system. Last problem I had is that when he left is minor but an annoyance. When he left he left the lights on in the attic and utility rooms, attic access door open and AC systems turned on high. Minor stuff but I didn't think to check the attic for a few hours so I had to crawl back through the attic. It's just cleaning up after yourself. I filled out a customer service survey they sent me but I never heard back.

Customer service is top notch. Estimator arrived on schedule and the work was completed on schedule. Insulation crew was professional and very neat. The entire process couldn't have been smoother.
Description of Work: Insulated attic. Install styrofoam baffles, add 10" of blown fiberglass insulation, built plywood wall around attic access hatch and insulated hatch. The attic is about 1,100 sq ft.

I do not like to post negative reviews, and in fact I never have, but this one is warranted. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. AFTER READING REVIEWS TOO LITTLE TOO LATE, WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES. We needed a blower replaced in our system. Due to unexpected circumstances, we did not have the time to research as we normally would and were short on companies available as it was a weekend. They came on Tuesday, a regular work day. Tech told us blower would be just over $1100 all in on top of $99 service call. I told him I was looking at blowers online that should cost at a max $200. He told me that wasn't what I needed. In a moment of weakness we agreed to the cost. It never set well with me and long story short, after many heated discussions with ARS, they came and took their part back which was a lesser quality than our original and refunded our money less two $99 service calls....the first one to put in the part and the second to take it out. We had another company come out and charge us $400 total all in for same part, labor and service call. Even with paying two service calls, we got back over $500. ARS could not explain their ridiculous cost other than to say it covered warranties and lots of other fees that they refused to break down for me. They said part of those fees were for the consumer protection. For example, If a junior tech took two days on a job and a senior tech took 2 hours on another, this was a way to make it fair for all. Seriously? I am paying extra to cover for a junior tech on another job? They would offer no other explanation. The only reason I did not give all f's is because they did refund my money and did come same day, although 3 hours past the window.. Charging fees like this is ridiculous and truly just immoral.

We received estimates from many companies and Brad from ARS was the only person who actually went into the attic and walked around to get an idea of our needs. We had original insulation (home was built in 1971), which meant that we only had about 3-4 inches of insulation. Brad suggested blowing in insulation and replacing the attic fan with a new one along with installing soffits for ventilation. Brad wrote an estimate for the price of insulation alone and the price for insulation and a new attic fan. Since there was a very obvious difference in the temperature on our top floor vs. the temperature on our lower levels (the top was about 10 degrees hotter), we decided to go with the insulation and new fan (we ended up getting 36 soffits to help with air flow). Brad's estimate for insulation was the lowest of any of the estimates we received (he gave us a Angie's List Discount). On the day of service, Brad and his team showed up right on time and worked diligently for several hours. Brad was very responsive throughout the entire process. He even took before and after photos of the attic and sent them to us. Since we got the new insulation and fan, we have noticed a tremendous difference in the temperature on the top floor. It is much more comfortable and we are incredibly happy with the results. We highly recommend Brad and ARS and we are very happy that we chose them to improve our home.

Everyone we dealt with was very professional and understanding.
Description of Work: They came out to inspect our AC unit, but since it was not working and it would cost just as much to figure out what was wrong as it would to get a new unit, it was advised that we get a new unit. ARS then sent out someone to help us with pricing and unit selection.

My experience began with Steve Davis, who made it a point to contact me regarding a maintenance contract. He emailed me information and when I realized we needed a new HVAC system I pulled up his info and called him. He was able to get an appointment for me the next day with Scott Strayer. Scott was great. Very informative and answered all of our questions. He was able to schedule our installation within a couple of days. Our installation team just left and I have to say, my husband and I are very happy. The team consisted of Brandon and Marcellous plus two other mechanics whose names I do not remember. (Sorry) They arrived within the expected window and began working immediately. They were very respectful of our home and were a pleasure. They installed the system in a shorter period of time than was quoted and then proceeded to explain how the remote worked. They exceeded our expectations.

Overall ARS did a great job with the installation. They were very professional and took great care to leave the work area clean. The installer even took time to review everything with my husband and myself and offer tips on maintenance care. Two weeks later, unfortunately our A/C stopped working. ARS did send a service person that same day (thank you!) to take a look. I didn't get a clear answer as to why the A/C stopped working -but there appeared to be a fuse that blew. The service person however was very knowledgeable, professional, and also offered much appreciated maintenance tips. However, where ARS is coming up short with me is customer service. The installers were upfront (thank you!) that they had ripped the screen where our furnance filter is placed -and ARS would completely take care of it. I had to follow up with several phone calls and frustrations explaining this to the front desk person. Finally, ARS did send someone to fix this for us. (Again, as far as damage goes, this is so minimal - but it was the lack of customer service and returned calls--after having just laid down some serious $$ --that was very frustrating) Same for the warranty and receiving the permit for the county to inspect our HVAC. First I was told by our sales rep that the inspection would be done w/3 days of installation. Then I learned that a permit has to be issued first and this would take about 6-8 weeks. Two month later, I have had to place 3 calls to ARS to find out about this inspection and to receive a copy of the warranty. The last person I was transferred to (Jackie I believe was her name) I could tell was going out of her way to find the information for me-but only so much she could do as another controlled the permits. I really appreciate her taking some action --even if nothing got readily resolved--as it was most help I had received to date. So, yes - 2 months in and all is working well (so far!) with our unit. We got a great price: We planned ahead vs. having a unit die on us and I think that played a huge part. I definitely recommend doing the same if you can. The installers and service professionals have all been very great. The ding for ARS is their customer service and returning calls to clients. That is why I have rated them a C on responsiveness/punctuality. I gave a B for quality only b/c the unit stopped working 2 weeks in.

I bought a new AC and heating unit 3 years ago. They sold me a service contract that included two calls. When I scheduled the first call, they informed me that I had already used one call when they installed the unit and that my service agreement needed to be renewed. I declined. This past May, my A/C went out. They discovered it had no Freon and must have a leak somewhere. The technician meticulously checked the inside and outside units and found no leaks. I was charged $400 for the Freon. Yesterday, my A/C quit again less than 90 days later. The technician said the leak must be in the line that runs to the outside unit. His pre-printed price sheet said it would cost $1,860 to replace. When I nearly fainted, he said he would call his boss. After the phone call, the price went up to $2,500. I am shopping for a new A/C company to do this work. I won't be using ARS any more.

Everything about the service call went smoothly - from the dispatch call letting me know that the tech was in the area, to him showing up on time and ready to work. Jon B was the technician, and he was fantastic. He was punctual, professional, and knowledgeable. He came into my home, immediately pulled out a pair of shoe covers and put them on. I showed him where the units were housed, and he went to work. My a/c kept freezing up, and Jon was able to thaw the lines by temporarily turning on the heat. It was uncomfortably warm in my house for about 25 minutes, but well worth it when he turned the a/c back on and it blew cold air. I've not had any problems since!
