All-Star Duct Cleaning

Description of Work: I called them to clean my ducts and coils on hvac systems because of cigarette smoke. I had a very lengthy conversation with Jenny in the office about what kind of substance they use to clean with because I have MCSS (multiple chemical sensitivity syndrome) She assured me what they use would be safe and I even called the company that makes the substance they use and they assured me they are approved by the EPA to be used in hospitals and even around people with breathing disorders. I agreed to have them come. They arrived a few minutes early (we just bought the house and don't live in the home yet). They had opened the front door with the key I left for them. I pulled in behind their truck to find one of the men smoking a cigarette right in front of my house with the front door hanging wide open! I was there for about 5 minutes when one of the men came up and showed a photo to me and said I had mold in my unit in the basement. He said they would need to do mold remediation which I had no idea what all that entailed but I assumed since he called the office to tell them what they would be doing in addition to cleaning the coils and vents that Jenny would have explained to them that I could have no smells put in the house. Then he proceeds to tell me the price would be $4200 instead of the $500 for cleaning but that did include cleaning the coils and vents too. I am allergic to mold so I said I guess I didn't have a choice. He at no time explained to me there would be a horrific odor along with the remediation. After they had started working on the basement unit, he went up to the upper unit and brought a cell photo (which looked very much like the same one from the basement) and said I had mold there too. I told him that I didn't have another $4000 so for them to just clean ducts and coils. Then he says to me "you can just clean the vent covers and it will be fine anyway!" Then I wondered if he made up the mold story in the basement but they had already started so I didn't feel it would be right to stop it after I agreed to let them do it. They were supposed to be there for 3 hours but we waited 9 hours before they were finally finished. They left for 2 hours without telling us and we had no idea where they had gone or when and if they would be back. After 9 hours he said they were finished but that they couldn't use the mold remediation in our ducts because they weren't metal but porous so I'm not sure what they did except the smell was so bad in my house my throat immediately started closing up. I asked what that smell was and he said the mold "paint". I had no idea there was a paint being used but the smell took over everything and was coming out of the vents with the system on. I tried to explain to the man that I couldn't stay in the house that we would have to go onto the porch for me to pay him but he insisted I pay him there so I just hurried and gave him my card to get out of there. The man said it would dissipate in 3 days. I called the company to complain and they claimed it would dissipate. I was very sick for a week after the exposure to the chemical he used so I went back after the week to see if the smell was gone. I turned on the system and in an instant it was the same and burned the inside of my nose and had to use my inhaler just for a few seconds of exposure. I called the company to try and get a refund but they refused. I have contacted my credit card company and as of now there is a dispute for the money. I called an HVAC service to see if they could get off whatever they did and he showed me they had dripped that paint onto the coil of the system as well as he pulled out a handfull of dirt and dust which meant they hadn't cleaned it at all. He was able to scrub the paint and cleaned the debri. And finally after all of this, I saw some things laying on the ground. Come to find out they were supposed to clean out my dryer vent as well and he completely blew apart the exterior part of the vent. The little flaps that open when your dryer comes on were scattered all over the ground. I have photos of it. I would not recommend these people to anyone. They do not take responsibility for what they do to your home and I was honestly afraid they had made mine unlivable with my issues and they did not care one iota. I used them only because of the high rating they have on here. It makes me question using Angie's list for anything else.

Description of Work: My dryer was not drying clothes no matter how long it ran. The company examined and vacuumed the lint trap in the dryer, moved the dryer out from the wall, disconnected the dryer vent, photographed the vent , I believe inside and outside, cleaned out (used something to blow out the lint from within) the entire vent to the outside of the building. They also cleaned up any lint that was blown outside the building. Quickly, arrived on time, arrived when I needed them, did a great job. Only company that could service me when I needed, and I believe I checked about 3 companies. They were not the cheapest, but they were not expensive and they could do the work when I wanted it done. |

Description of Work: Called with ETA. Arrived on time. Techs were very professional. Very careful with hardwood floors and did a great job cleaning air ducts.

Description of Work: Find dead animal in ductwork and remove it. Deodorize the ducts. Animal very hard to locate, took almost half a day. I am verty sastified with the work and fee.

Description of Work: Cleaned dryer duct. Dryer is located on the 2nd floor, and has approximately 20' of ductwork to reach the outside. The employees, moved my dryer, connected their equipment, and completed there work within 30 min. This is my 2nd experience with this company. Very happy both times.

Description of Work: They were great! I called them to clean a clogged dryer vent. Whereas other providers turned down the job because they said they couldn't get up to the roof where the dryer vents, Russell said he could go through the unfinished attic space in our roof. He and his partner were courteous, efficient, punctual, and did a terrific job. And my dryer works!

Description of Work: All-Star made a recommendation that I remove the mole problem by replacing my existing furnace. Advice was followed. Used Lowe's since I had an account with them. Will bring All-Star back to clean ducts.

Description of Work: They did a complete cleaning of all duct work. It was very, very dirty because I had just had considerable remodeling/additions done throughout the house over the past year. Therefore, their special Angie's List "deal" came at a very good time for me.
