My 21 year old fence had several boards that needed to be replaced and all 3 of my gates were inoperable. I called Justin at Adam Contracting, after finding him on Angie's List. He couldn't have been nicer, more responsive or more helpful. He told me that their next available appointment was the following Tuesday, which worked fine of me. He said that he and Israel would be there at 8:00 to determine what was needed. He told me he would buy the supplies and Israel would do the work. On the appointed day, they called to say they were on their way and arrived exactly on time. Israel set about doing the work and Justin purchased and delivered the supplies. Israel worked diligently all day and did a beautiful job. As he was about to leave we realized that he had replaced a small gate with a fixed panel. He called Justin who assured us it was a miscommunication, that would be fixed to our satisfaction and that there would be no additional charge. On Wednesday, I got notification that Israel would arrive on Thursday morning to do the repair which he completed perfectly within an hour. Ultimately, it came down to they did what they said they would do. They did it on time. They did it for a fair price. They did it well. That's really all I want from a contractor and that's exactly what I got.
Description of Work: Repaired my fence and adjusted all of my gates.

It went very well, no problems. Justin and his workers were on time, clean and very responsive. The work that they did came out great! Justin returned my call in a timely manner and he and his staff showed up on time each day.
Description of Work: He replaced a section of my hardwood floor that was damaged in my dining room and he completed a closet remodel that included drywall and painting in my bedroom.

He was very professional but he was way too expensive so although we already had the wiring in, we ended up doing it ourselves. I thought his bid was good. He did a good job explaining what he would do but the price was like outlandish marijuana. With anyone I've used through Angie's List, I never had any issues with anything and the only reason I didn't go with him was the price. I read the grades they get and I go with the person that's been rated the most and it's been very effective. I'll probably not use them again.

We appreciate your feedback [member name removed], It is unfortunate we did not get to work together but I am glad we where able to explain the steps to complete the project in such detail that you decided to do it yourself. I am also confused as to how our bid was "good" but our prices are "too high". I do not appreciate some of the language that you choose to use on my page but that is neither here nor there. Thank you and I wish you the best of luck on your home improvement projects in the furture.

Went very well, so far so good. I will check in attic periodically for any leaks on to insulation. The new fans are much more powerful, but quieter as well. Only negative came with cold weather and high winds. One of the new outside vents has a flap cover that opens when the wind gets high enough, and the cold air gets funneled into the bathroom! (The other vent flap doesn't do this.) Don't know how to address this.
Description of Work: Installed 2 new bathroom fans in upstairs bathrooms. Contractor suggested some models, I purchased them. Most important was taking out the old flexible venting into the attic (leaking), and installing correct rigid venting to outside wall, according to code.

Justin was a pleasure to work with. He was always responsive when I asked him questions or had concerns, and he really worked hard to make sure he had all the details and the exact ideas we had. He took the time to find the correct match to the current cabinets we already had, and had them ordered a day or two later. He allowed us to confirm the type of cabinet before he ordered, to make sure he didn't order the wrong things. The whole process was pretty painless for us. The install took 4 hours or so, and everyone was on time, cleaned up after themselves, and his entire team seemed efficient and a pleasure to have in my house. The project looks perfect, and there was never really any sign he and his team was there when they left. It is reassuring to know I now have someone to rely on when I need some work done. Thanks Justin!

Justin and his crew came onsite and performed exceptionally. They completed both task well within the purposed timeframe. They were on time every day. They worked very efficiently and cleaned up their work areas each day. During the remolding timeframe the bathroom task was my worst worry because I had hired a previous contractor to perform the work but he had fail to complete the job. But, Justin?s team shined through and even corrected issues that were over looked by the previous contractor. For example, as the crew was removing shower wall they discovered that there was a diverter wall problem and instead of just pressing forward. They contacted me about the problem, showed me the issue, purpose a cost effective solution, and corrected the problem. Justin even came by on Saturday after his company completed their contracted work to correct one other task that was caused by the previous contractor.

Great service & great value. Justin came out and gave an estimate and was very helpful in explaining what was to done and the cost. The technician that came out to do the work (Isreal)was very friendly, worked quickly and clearly explained what was being done and left no mess. Fast, easy, no surprises. Overall excellent. These young men were prompt, professional and thorough. I needed to prepare for a move and repaint a townhouse quickly and they came in and got the job done. I wanted no surprise fees after I left the property, so I took care of the painting etc. before I moved. Prior to the furniture loading they took down railings and mounted furniture, electronics, etc. that the movers would not, so everything was good to go. As soon as the furniture was out, there they were, ready to patch, prep and paint nearly every room and some high stairwells too. When the painting was complete, all rails were reinstalled, the townhouse was swept clean, and Justin took down a few lighting fixtures that I almost left behind. Everything passed the owner's inspection. Adams Contracting is a jovial group, and listens to what the customer needs, which makes working with them all the more pleasant. And an extra shout out to Josh for hauling away everything piled outsisde that AmVets committed to pick up but did not! I would not hesitate to hire them again.

I initially contacted Adam Contracting in April about painting my two story foyer. Justin promptly responded and came out to my house to give me an estimate. I had three other estimates (all who were also A rated on Agie's list) give me estimates. Adam Contracting was the lowest price by $50. In November I finally decided I was ready to get the job done. Adam Contracting honored my original estimate and was able to schedule me right away. Justin (and another guy came bright and early and finished by mid afternoon. They did a great job on the prep work on the wall, patching things that needed patching, covering the floors etc. When they were finished they cleaned up everything. They even Swiffered my floors! I was more than pleased with the result and while he was there I had him price out a few other jobs for me. I was nervous about choosing the contractor with the lowest price, but I got a good price with a great result, and I couldnt be happier!

The service man sent did an excellent job repairing the items. He worked very efficiently, thus saving me labor costs, and was very professional. Very impressed with this company and its employee. I'd also like to add that I experienced a lot of difficulty finding a handyman who would come out for such a small job without charging me exorbitant "show up" fees. Either my calls weren't returned, they quoted very high prices, or tried to work a deal to do a lot of additional jobs to quantify showing up at all. Although I appreciated the effort of trying to add work to make the visit profitable for both sides, I just couldn't afford to have additional work done at this time. Adam Contracting was the only company that would come out for a decent price. They did everything they promised to do, were prompt in their communication, and timely in their work. I will definitely use them again and will refer them to others.

Justin LeBlanc came by to give me a quote for an estimate 2 days after my initial call to Adam Contracting on Sep. 9. He listened to what I wanted to have done & gave me a quote using the composite material that I wanted to use to replace the wood trim on my 2 story box bay window. He emailed me his estimate the next day, Sep. 12, with the outline of the work to be done. Justin's estimate was almost $800 less than next lowest bid with composite material. Then he applied the 10% off coupon from Angie's List for labor, bringing his final total almost $1000 lower. After I told Justin on Sep. 18, that we wanted Adam Contracting to do the job he emailed us the contract with all of the terms the next day. He was also able to start the exterior work on the box bay window on Sep. 27 & completed the exterior work on Sep. 28. This was a great accommodation for us, as we had an HOA deadline to meet. On Sep. 27, Justin & 2 of his crew, Robert & Joshua arrived & started tearing off the rotted wood trim. Justin & his crew were always very polite & they were a pleasure to be around. They worked well together & enjoyed working together. They always answered any question that I had. They cleaned up each day after they finished. The box bay window looks great! Justin & Robert came back the next week as previously arranged, to fix the entry way sub-floor & braced the joists under the area where he replaced the rotten wood. He was even able to find the same vinyl tile to replace the ones he removed. Justin & Robert put up plastic sheeting to keep the sawdust from getting all over the rest of the house while they worked on the entry way floor. They completed all the work that day, including one extra job I forgot to ask them to do, repaint all of the trim around the front door &replace the old house numbers with a new set that I already had without charging me an additional expense. Justin & his crew did a fantastic job. We would definitely use them on future projects.
Description of Work: Removed & replaced the rotted wood trim on a 2 story box window with composite material. Caulked & repainted the box window with color matched paint. Repaired rotted wood at the bottom of the front door frame (exterior). Removed & replaced a 2 x 2 piece of damaged sub-floor by the entry door.

We needed to have shutters replaced on our townhouse. I moved to the DC area from the Midwest not that long ago and didn't "have a guy" for stuff like this. I am very happy to say, that I now "have a guy." Justin was prompt, polite and very friendly during the entire process. One the first visit, I gave him the "laundry list" of other things that needed to be done. He priced them all in a written estimate. I just wanted to try out his company to see how things went before we started with the bigger items on the list. Things went so well, I will definitely be calling him again. In fact, I am writing this review after contacting him to work on another item from the "laundry list." The pricing was a little higher than I expected. But, 1) that could be coming from my Midwestern pricing experience and 2) the service and quality of work were definitely worth it. Also, the immediate help I received from an unexpected event between the time I first called Justin and his first visit on site was a life saver. After I called to set up the estimate, there was a sudden storm that sent a power surge through the house and knocked out the air conditioning. Justin was coming over the next evening and I asked him for help when he arrived. (the summer in DC without air conditioning? no thank you very much). He made a call and someone was at my door the next day. I was expecting over the top pricing, but it was very fair and reasonable. Overall, Justin and the folks he sent to do the work were friendly, efficient, polite and got the job done to my expectations. Will definitely be using Adam Contracting as "my guys" now.

(***Please scroll down for explicit issues regarding quality of work) We were disappointed to have spent so much time researching on Angie?s List for a contractor that produced quality work for reasonable prices only to find one with great Angie?s List reviews, but one we were ultimately dissatisfied with. Justin is the company owner and he has painters, a floor guy, a tile guy, a plumber, and an electrician that he works with, though Justin does do some work himself. First impressions were good which is why he won this project over 2 other contractors. However, his responsiveness prior to the first payment was poor. We had to submit our contract to our lender in order for renovation money to be approved. Justin missed the deadline for the submission of the contract which nearly affected our closing date. Also, before we submitted the first payment, it was difficult to get in contact with him. He rarely answered his phone so we frequently asked questions via email or text but when he responded he didn't fully answer our questions. I had informed him at the beginning that we wanted to start work ASAP after closing (July 17) since our move in date was scheduled to be Aug 17, but after closing he said his schedule was filling up and he would not be able to start until the 1st or 2nd week in August. I was not happy about this so he agreed to start July 27 with an anticipated date of completion of August 10 (which I got in writing). This allowed an extra week in case reno was delayed for whatever reason. So he agreed to these dates stating he would have to be out of town a few days but that he'd have his guys working while he was out. But right before the 27, he informs me he is going to be out for a week and that he did not have any work scheduled during his absence! He said we'll still have plenty of time since the date of completion was Aug 15. I reminded him it was the 10th, so he scheduled painting to be done while he was out. During the reno, Justin was a bit more responsive but he ignored my repeated requests that everything be run through me for approval--nothing added or changed from the original contract without MY express approval. But he replaced the lighting fixture in the bathroom and the mirror in the bathroom without informing me or consulting me as to the design or anything. There were also issues that arose (such as a dirty gap behind the new toilet because the new toilet base was smaller than the previous toilet or a large gap between the kitchen countertop and backsplash due to the cabinets being uneven) that I was never informed about--I was just left to find these things on my own and hear excuses about them, but was never offered an opportunity to correct them before finding them on my own. We were supposed to get a new electric line installed for the jacuzzi tub. But I had to get HOA approval. Due to Justin taking his time getting HOA requested documentation to me (and by the way he originally advised me not to even tell my HOA because it would delay work--I thought that was very unprofessional and I insisted it be done correctly), this delayed the approval and by the time the approval came through, Justin couldn't get his electrician out to do this project before move in day. For weeks I begged him to get this going and I kept getting the run around until I finally told him to forget it and asked for my deposit back. I got another 2 weeks of run around before I actually received the check. My father was originally going to install new cabinet doors in the kitchen, but he asked Justin to do it instead as an addition to the contract. We realized Home Depot made an error and the cabinet doors did not fit. At this point I told Justin to hold everything--my parents and I would discuss that evening and we would inform him the next day what we wanted to do with the doors. But when I called to inform him of our decision, he had already painted all the cabinet doors white and said I was the one who told him to do that! I NEVER would have told him to paint them white--they were already white! But he still charged us for it! At this point, he says he's getting confused and is walking off site for the day until he can straighten everything out and draft a formal addendum for all the additions to the original contract. This delayed work nearly 2 days and it was only a few days til move in at this point because we had missed the Aug 10 deadline. I thought his addendum was ridiculous but my parents said we should go ahead so we could get everything done on time. ***Quality of Work: 1) Painting was sloppy. I don't think tape was used in the kitchen--green and white bleeding together at ceiling line. Green paint splotches were on electric outlets in kitchen, drip of green paint down my fridge, white splotch of paint on bathroom cabinet, paint on the sides of kitchen cabinet. 2) Patchwork was sloppy: There was a large outlet sized square on the bathroom wall which had not been sanded and leveled or drywalled over. 3) Tub Front: Justin agreed to build something for the jacuzzi tub front to hide the motor and underbelly of the tub. All he did was cut a piece of plywood and paint it 2 coats. It looks awful and doesn't even meet the tile, leaving a gap. Plus it is flimsy and is not a good material to serve its purpose since it will come in contact with water and humidity. He agreed to replace it after the contract was complete because I was dissatisfied but after 2 weeks of giving me the run around, he finally said he'd come fix it but for an additional $50! We already paid $175 for it--so we told him to forget it. 4) Dirty: I was going to pay a cleaning lady to come clean after reno but before move in, but Justin assured me they would clean up thoroughly after reno. I found dust and dirt all over the kitchen floor and counters, dust on the walls of the shower, debris and dirt loose or stuck to the bottom of the tub and bathroom sink, orange fingerprints all over the bathroom door (looked like hot sauce--I know that didn't come from us!!!) 5) Fixtures: the bathroom vent fan was missing, there were light fixtures either loose or missing, and there was a missing attic access cover. Justin fixed or replaced everything but the attic access cover when requested, but the vent fan was installed so that a noticeable gap was left. Justin had excuses for all of these issues, none of which involved blame from him or his company. When we expressed dissatisfaction about things, he never accepted blame and usually turned it around to be my fault or my parents' fault. But the bottom line here is, the experience was bad and the QUALITY was poor. The attached pictures evidence this, and cannot be argued or blamed back to us, though something tells me Justin will respond and again put all the blame back on us.
Description of Work: In a 1400 sq ft 2 BR Condo: Prepped interior for painting, Painted interior (ceilings, walls, doors, trim) white and green on kitchen walls, replaced carpet throughout and laid vinyl in kitchen (cost of carpet and vinyl not included), drywalled in bathroom walls around tub and installed tiling, replaced tub, replaced toilet, installed grab bars in the shower, replaced lighting and mirror, replaced all bifold doors and added framed door to water heater closet (cost of doors not included), replaced kitchen countertops, installed new water heater, installed OTR microwave over stove, removed window pane separators, paint kitchen cabinet doors (this was not in original contract and was not authorized by us but we were charged for it anyway).

Response from Adam Contracting
Dear Angie's List member, I am sorry that you feel this was all of a sudden after the numerous emails as well as voicemails stating that you where extatic with how great everything looks and that you where " so happy with all that we have done for you including extra items and still being able to make the deadline for you to move in on time. Also I completed a walk through with you and recived the final payment on the terms that everything was completed to you satifaction. This review was generated soley on the fact that I would not return to complete extra work for you for no charge. As most people are aware in construction there is always things that come up that where not expected. I also would like to make my future client aware of the fact that the photos that are attached to this particular review are after the client had been living in the home for over a month. The plywood on the front of the tub that was purchased by this client from somebody on craigslist (used) and picked up and delivered by Adam Contracting was what the client paid for and was fully aware ( contract stated exactly what we where going to be doing) of what the end result was going to look like considering the tub was not made for area that it was installed in. I am sorry for the end result of this business relationship and hope that you have better experiences in the furture. To all of my future clients I strive to do excellent work at a competitve rate and my long list of reviews over the years can back that up.. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day!

Like many other reviewers of Adam Contracting, my initial impression of Justin was very good. He arrived on time to review the project, seemed knowledgeable and professional. He assured me his firm is licensed and fully insured, confirming what his web site and Angie's List advertises. I told him on his initial visit that I would require a Certificate of Insurance from his Insurer. He said he would provide the Certificate of Insurance with his contract. I advised him that he would need to sign my Home Improvement Agreement which is very standard language adapted from the AIA American Institute of Architects contract documents. Basically protecting me and my property from claims or losses resulting from his firms performance, which I require for any work performed on my property, and which no licensed and insured contractor has ever refused to sign. He sent me his contract, without the Insurance Certificate which I tentatively accepted by email, pending receipt of his of proof of Insurance, and his signing of my Home Improvement Agreement. This was now into the 3rd week after initial contact and I told him I hoped to have the work completed in the next 3 weeks. He came by a few days later for final measurements, again with no Certificate of Insurance, bur promising he would provide it before work began. I gave him my Home Improvement Agreement to review. Two days later I received an email from Justin again assuring me he would provide a Certificate of Insurance when he started work, but suggesting he didn't understand the need since he has been a reputable contractor for 5 years with no problems. though he refused to sign my Home Improvement Agreement. Still desiring to salvage the potential of using Adam Contracting if possible, I replied with an email asking what issues he had with my agreement and that I would be open to suggestions. He never replied. The only good reason a contractor will not provide a valid certificate of liability insurance is because he is not insured. All it takes is a phone call for and Insurer to email or fax a copy to a perspective customer, and the only valid proof a contractor can show that he is insured. I ended up using another contractor. also found on Angie's List, for essentially an identical cost as Adam Contracting. They had no problem signing my Home Improvement Agreement or providing a Certificate of Insurance from their carrier. I have nothing against Justin or Adam Contracting other than it delayed the project for a month and was a major waste of both of our time. As a warning to other Home Owners considering hiring a contractor who will not provide valid proof of Liability Insurance, should anything go wrong, you are likely on your own. Very few if any Home Owner policies cover contractor damage or injuries. If anything does go wrong, it can cost you dearly. If you think otherwise, call your Home Insurer or search "uninsured contractors" on the web for an over abundance of horror stories. Honest, reputable licensed and "Fully insured" contractors have no problem proving they have insurance, and signing a document taking responsibility for their performance on your project. At about $2500 to $3500 per year in this market, why any insurable contractor would not have liability insurance does not make good sense or good business. For the record, I am not an Insurance Agent, but I do have nearly 40 years of experience in commercial / industrial contracting and construction.

Justin is the owner of this business. He does have others do some work such as painting but also does work himself. All work is of exceptional quality. The one issue (some paint splatters) was taken care of perfectly. Our decks look beautiful as well as our siding that had not been pressure washed in several years. The painting was of high quality including matching colors from prior paint jobs. Because he is so busy, we didn't always know when to expect the work to be done but he responded to all concerns. We are compiling a list of further work and will definitely have Adams Contracting do the work. We are pleased with our choice and hope to have a long term relationship with Justin's company.
Description of Work: Repaired roof leak, replaced drywall in garage. Pressure washing of entire house, painting of all trim, sealing of all decks.

Justin came out for the free estimate and took his time explaining everything in detail that needed to be done. His workers showed up on time and completed the work in timely manner even though I kept adding jobs to the initial work. Quality of work done is very good and clean up. Overall an excellent service and I will be using them again.
