"Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding the experience that you had with Adam Contracting. We really enjoyed working with you and look forward to working with you in the future!"
I reminded him of our agreement about being paid at closing about a week later and stated that the attorney had already submitted the closing docs to the buyer's mortgage company to review and they couldn't be changed. He agreed again and then things started to go south. When the attorney called to verify the amounts that had already been paid and the remaining balance to be paid, he stated different amounts that what he and I had agreed to. This was the first time that the closing was almost postponed by Adam Contracting's Owner. I expressed my frustration to him verbally and instructed him to call the attorney's office in the morning to state the correct amounts and keep closing on track. Instead of talking to them, he instead sent a very tersely worded email threatening to place a mechanic's lien on the property (bear in mind this is still prior to closing and he had agreed to be paid at closing twice). This again sent the closing into a spiral as there was a threat of a unknown lien on the property by Adam Contracting. After a full days worth of phone calls with attorneys and the buyers mortgage company, we were able to sort everything despite the threat of a lien.
The night before closing my wife and I went to the property to vacuum the carpets, sweep floors, mow the lawn, etc. fo the new owners. I went into the bathroom shower to check that one of the mandated repairs was complete (the shower stem to be replaced) and the repair had not been completed, and this was 15 hours prior to closing. This was the third time that Adam Contracting had threatened this closing. After calling and emailing Adam Contracting multiple times and telling him the faucet was not functional I was told 'Feel free to go check it. I don't have to prove anything to you. It's been replaced and thats a fact! I will get money.' (an excerpt from his email)
I reminded him that as his paying client, he did have to prove it. An excerpt my response to that email 'I didn't bring this up at the last minute to **** with you. I brought it up because it's not working as you said it would. The quick and easy solution is to complete the repair and get it taken care of.... Trust me, I am more than ready to wash my hands of this and move on but I'm not able to because the work is not complete. And as your paying client, yes. Yes you do have to prove that you did the work. I'm sure if you were in my position that you would do the same.
The house finally closed and the attorney sent the check direct to him. An already stressful situation was made worse and his interactions almost killed this deal entirely. I have learned a few lessons during this time and I would suggest anyone who is interested in working with Adam Contracting to get everything in writing (whether implicit or explicitly expected) and make sure that you do a thorough inspection of all work completed. Based of my interactions with Adam Contracting, I would NEVER consider working with them again and will pass that advice on to whomever asks me.
Buyer Beware.
"To all my future clients: This review contains false information regarding the way that the actually situation turned out. Allow me to clear this up so that there is no confusion. Adam Contracting was hired to complete a variety of repairs to the home. The contract did not state that the final payment would be paid and closing nor was it discussed up front, however was discussed after we entered the contractual agreement and I informed the client that that would not be an issue. Once the job was complete I informed the client that we had finished and the item referenced in the review above related to the plumbing was a mis-understanding on the clients part. Our contract stated " supply and install a new replacement cartridge valve in the upstairs hall bath shower". Client must not have read the contract and thought that we where to replace the tub spout itself. This is why when the client went to the property that this line item was not yet completed, because that particular line item did not exist. I informed him that I did it myself so there was no confusion as to it being done or not. As soon as it was brought to my attention I went to the property immediately and replaced the tub spout at no cost to the client to avoid a hold up on closing, which once again had nothing to do with what we where hired to do nor was Adam Contracting legally obligated to assist in anyway with closing on time, our original scope of work was already completed, this was going to be a courtesy to our client which clearly went un appreciated. Our contract states " Balance will be due upon the completion of the work listed above". As for the payment goes, we where issued a deposit on the project which was to include a Credit Card convenience fee that is clearly stated in our contract and was know by the client because we have done work for him prior to this particular project. The delay did not come from the decline of Adam Contracting wanting to wait until closing for payment, it simply came from the fact that when we where contacted by the bank to inform them of the balance due at closing our number was not matching the number that the client gave them because he forgot to include the credit card fee that was yet to be applied from the initial deposit. Client noted " apply the fee to the final payment all together once completed and we said no problem. Obviously prior to client asking if we can wait until closing to be paid. However this could all have been avoided if the client did not contact me numerous times via email and phone call verbally assaulting me as well as belittling me with curse word after curse word. This is behavior that Adam Contracting does not and will not tolerate as a business or as an individual. We are a very reputable company as our reviews reflect. Unfortunately there are just some people out there that want something for nothing and intends on using Angie's List as leverage by threating a " Bad review". As you can see the client could not even refrain from cursing in the review it self, however Angie's List would not allow it so he replace the word of choice with ****! So we all can see what type of person we where dealing with. Please do not be like this person. We approach everything in a professional manner therefore expect the same respect from our clients. Thank you for you time and we look forward to working with all potential clients in the future!"
Great experience -- we'll definitely use Adam Contracting again in the future!

"Thank you sir, It was a pleasure working with you and we look forward to assisting you in the future."
Mostly good. Painted exterior decorative trim when it was too cold so it didn't cure adequately. Also, the exterior trim was not primed prior to painting. Contractor said the trim was primed by the manufacturer....not true. A few months after the install, the trim started to bulge again at the bottom due to water penetration (this was supposed to be fixed) and paint started peeling off the trim. Since they weren't responsive to fix it the right way (sand, prime and repaint) In Nov of 2015 I spent $400 to have a painting contractor redo the priming and painting of the exterior trim....this contractor confirmed my suspicions that the trim was not primed at the manufacturer's plant and Adam contracting did not prime it. There were other minor issues with door fit, gaps that had to be sealed due to inadequate door alignment, etc. So he got the job done in a timely manner, but not as well as I would have liked. His price was competitive with others and less than some, so I guess you get what you pay for.
"Unfortunately this is not accurate information. The company that the particular door came from is called REEB and they do not offer any exterior doors that are not primed. The options are vinyl clad, aluminum clad and primed pine. I informed the client that the middle of winter when there was snow on the ground was not a good time to be applying exterior paint and that we would not be able to warrant it. He needed it done. The door was installed perfectly level as well as plumb. The home owner was not in the area so the tenant was in between our communications which is never the best situation. We strive for excellence and our reviews back that up over the last 5 years. We have won the super service award 5 years in a row and plan to continue with that trend as the years go on. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day !"
two separate rooms with a french door. Justin was prompt with an
estimate and the work was done on time. The wall was built, the french
doors installed and everything painted properly. There was an issue with
the placement of the doorknobs (due to the uneven floors in the house)
and Justin came by a few days later and corrected the problem. We were
very satisfied with the work and we are likely to use this contractor
again in the future.
"Thank you for your feedback sir, We really appreciate when our clients take the time to place a review regarding there experience. We know how valuable your time is. We look forward to working with you in the future!"
This bath was a lot of labor since there was not a rough in. Other contractors complained about having to drill the concrete up along the entire basement floor. Justin's plumber was able to come in and easily locate another line underground that eliminated so much drilling. They cut the wall and framed out a door at the base of the stairs, relocated the water heater, installed then rough in, added a vent, outlet, lights, vanity, toilet, and full standing shower.
We had a hang up with the vanity (due to another business, NOT Justin's) which hung up the timeline- this whole time Justin and his team were VERY patient waiting for the vanity to be built.
Justin also worked with me to find ways to save money along the way, while still providing the best product. The price did not include tile or fixtures- these I bought separately through Floor and Decor, Home Depot, and Lowes.
This was the first time I had hired a contractor for such a large project, and I would definitely use this company again. I have actually already scheduled a second job with them.
"Mrs. [Member Name Removed], It was a pleasure working with you and I am so happy that we where able to provide the space that you had in mind. I hope your rental income has begun and that it is working out for you. Thank you and have a wonderful day !"
We rescheduled with Justin for 8AM the following Saturday. Justin arrived on time and we showed him the two projects we wanted to have completed. Justin said he would have an estimate to us by Monday or Tuesday. I received an estimate from him on Monday. The first project was a small ground level 69 sq ft deck. Justin quoted the estimate for this project to be $3,725 for supplies and labor! We went to Lowes ourselves and bought all of the wood, concrete, AND tools for $243!. Over $3,400 in labor is a lot to me for such a small project.
The second estimate was to replace 6 hollow core slab interior doors (Doors only, not the frame), 8 bi-fold closet doors, and the front door. The estimate for this project only included labor since we are ordering all of the doors ourselves. The estimate for the labor for this project came back at $3,825. I emailed him stating this I believed this estimate was extremely high. He stated the cost of the front door to install was $575, which is reasonable to me given the complexity of the install. That means he is charging $3,250 in labor only for interior doors and closet doors. This translates to a labor cost of $232 per door.
He said the best he could do would be to take 10% off for being an Angie's List member... I asked him to redo the estimate if we took all of the old doors off ourselves and we stained the deck ourselves. He came back with an estimate of $6,400 for both projects. I thought this was still incredibly high for how small these projects were. I told him we would not be moving forward with this estimate.
It was a very disappointing experience and we were hoping we would be able to use this company for other projects in our home.
