The King's Masons

Terrible. They keep telling me they were going to change the dark travertine stone to light and never did. The pitch on our top patio was not done properly. Water sits.

The finished product looks great. Compliments received from others. Would have gotten 5 stars except for their not letting me know about delays until I asked them and they don't use bags or filters on their stone cutters. Large amount of dust everywhere with no advance warning. A lot of work for me to get it off everything. Doesn't come off easily. The people (workers and managers) were nice to interact with and do great work.

It was a pleasure working with The King's Masons from start to finish. From the design to the administration to the crew that did the work-very professional. I was particularly impressed that the owner (Richard Baker) was involved checking that the work met both the structural and aesthetic standards of The King's Masons work. It is hard to find true craftsmen these days but that is exactly what The King's Masons has. I not only would use them again but I would also recommend The King's Masons to my friends and family. We are very happy with the work!

I contacted the Kings’ Masons by phone hoping to schedule an estimate. We really liked the pictures they had on their site and their reviews on Angie’s List were great. The employee I spoke with indicated that they wouldn’t be able to get out to us quickly and suggested I send in some pictures and dimensions and Richard, the company president, would take a look and get back to us with an estimate. So I spend about an hour taking photos, measurements, and drawing up a diagram of the entire front stoop and sent it in via email. The verbatim response below was fairly dismissive: Thanks for contacting us for your project. We are quite busy right now and cannot set up all the estimates we are being asked to do. I am sorry, but we will have to pass on this work We could not get to the bid for 2 months with our current workload. Thanks and good luck. Richard A couple questions come to mind: First, surely the employee who answers the phone should know that they are so backed up that they are not taking any more jobs. Second, why didn’t Richard even suggest if we would mind waiting on the estimate? Instead, after taking a look at the proposed project, he “pass(ed) on this work”. I can only speculate that our job (which is coming in at about $8k) simply wasn’t big enough to warrant more of a response. My recommendation is unless you have a project that is big enough to get their attention, you should “pass” on this company.

A 6 week job turned into 3 months due to some weather and Kings Mason scheduling problems. After completion no follow up with us but the work has proven to be excellent. Mimi was a delight to work with at the office. Richard takes a lot of pride in his work and has excellent design skills.

Work was done professionally and with high quality. Repairs are done on a time and materials basis and I would definitely use them again for future repairs.

Excellent for both projects- crew arrived on time, completed on time and completely cleaned the site. The patio extension immediately blended with the original work done last year, cannot even tell where the new work is, looks great.

I selected TKM after seeing their work at a neighbor's property. My experience was excellent in every way: the process, people, price, and the results. The contracting and business processes are structured, documented and adhere to standard architectural and construction terms and methods. The folks in the office are nice, professional, and efficient. The crew included a mason (a real craftsman) and a helper; each was diligent and meticulous. The results look beautiful, and I'm confident will be long lasting.

I did not agree to have the estimate.

We had heard and read good things about The King's Masons, so we contacted them a couple of days after meeting the owner, Richard, at the home show at the Dulles Expo. Initial communication was very show. We had to follow up a couple of times. It was about a week and a half before we were able to schedule a consultation with Richard. From that point on, it was smooth sailing. Richard was very knowledgeable and professional. The work quality was exceptional. They completed the work in 2 days. Their estimate was very reasonable when compared to other quotes that we received. We would highly recommend them. Just be a little patient if they don't get back to you right away. They are very busy and for a good reason - they are good at what they do and in demand :)

The estimate was provided in a timely manner. The repair date was given soon thereafter. Charlie, the foreman, and his equally hard-working helper showed up for work at the time and date indicated. By the way, Mimi Henry, their "Girl Friday" is very nice to work with, answers all questions promptly, and is quite dependable.

The wall is now beautiful... Stonework and stucco are absolutely perfect!

Recognizing our urgent situation, King's Masons provided an estimate to repair the chimney and arrived days later to make the repairs. A scaffold was needed and they returned several days later. They worked with us on an economical and practical fix to the problem. Work was completed in time for our 4th of July BBQ celebration. King's Masons were terrific.

We contacted them to come out to give us an estimate for removing and replacing our old patio and retaining wall. They arrived on time. However, after looking at the job we were informed that they do not give estimates for free. We would be charged $450.00 for a design. This could have been mentioned on the phone so that our time was not wasted. Other companies have given us free estimates with the option of purchasing a more detailed landscape plan.

They were very professional, showed up on time and did the work contracted for. We would definitely use them again!

The only hold up was the weather. Rain can delay a project. That's no fault of the contractor. The completed the whole project in a day, came back and replaced a strip of sod, and it looked absolutely marvelous. Several neighbors asked who I hired. I gladly informed them. One said they were envious. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Instead of matching the existing mortar on the porch and the rest of the walkway which is a sand color, they used a bright white which was bad enough but they also smeared the mortar they did use onto the bricks. When originally contracting the job my husband had specified that the mortar needed to match the existing mortar in color and that specification had been agreed to by King's Masons. The job turned out atrocious and unprofessional which we will have to have removed and redone properly. Of course we will have to pay twice for the same job. If they didn't want or could not do the job in professional manner they should not have accepted the job and then have the audacity to charge us for this mess.

I contacted The King's Masons through Angie's list and received an immediate call from Mimi. During this pleasant call I discussed the scope of work and repairs I was in search of and followed up with an email providing pictures. After reviewing the pictures and determining the material replacement requirements with masons, Mimi called me to discuss their draft estimate. I was very pleased with the experience as the estimate seemed reasonable and in line with other estimates and references I was receiving. The lead time for he delivery of services for all the estimates I received was 4-6 weeks. I had narrowed my choice to between The King's Masons and another stone contractor. I elected to go with the other stone contractor because they had a last minute job cancelation and could start my project immediately. I would definitely use The King's Masons in the future.

This is our second experience with the King's Masons and again, the results were excellent. But it is a process so be prepared to wait. It requires an estimate, an initial deposit, contract signing and then scheduling. For a large job, I fully appreciate the necessity for all that. For a small job, it's a bit much but it's how they work. It was a month and half from our initial deposit to final work. But it's certainly worth the wait to know it will be done right, and done right the first time by courteous professionals who totally know what they are doing. Ours was a small project involving re-pointing some blue stone steps and installing new blue stone around a built-in grill. They also discover some other blue stone in the existing surround requiring re-pointing (much appreciated!) They said they would arrive at 7AM and that's precisely when they were here. We went through the job together, talked about some other issues they spotted and agreed on all that needed doing. Access to one area required coming through the house and they immediately took off their shoes and were careful with all their material. Both the house and job site was immaculate when they left. Professionals all the way.

The mason and the work he performed were wonderful. He was very knowledgable and knew the exact type of stone it was on sight. He confirmed that the stone itself was very good and sound, but that unfortunately some of them were not originally laid properly, which resulted in some of the stones shifting over time & contributed to the crumbling mortar. He was able to remove the mortar from the stones, reshape some of them a bit to improve the fit, and relay them. It looks better than new. The mason and his helper started at about 7am. I believe the helper was there for an hour, and the mason was on site for 3.5 hours. They cleaned up the job site (driveway) perfectly; you'd never know that part of the front of our home had just been essentially removed and reattached, it was pristine! Our mason gave us verbal tips on how to maintain the work, and we were sent a maintenance sheet along with the invoice electronically later the same day that the work was completed. Working with Mimi (in the office) was a joy, she was prompt and clear in all her communications and answered all my questions along the way. I'd definitely recommend The King's Masons for this type of work.

It went excellent. The work is beautiful. The materials were first rate that they used. They were very, very careful and took their time. They did a craftsman like job. We did comparison shopping for what they were offering.

Provider stated there was a fee for initial consult. Work done by another no fee provider.

Richard came out right away and arrived on time. He had a lot of good ideas and was very creative. He was very honest with me about the cost of the work that needed to be done. They did the work when they said they would and finished in a timely manner. The house looks great and they did an excellent job.
