We contacted Window Depot for an estimate and met with Mike Leech who gave us several options. He ordered the doors for us and introduced us to the installation crew. He followed up to make sure everything was done professionally and that we were happy with the final installation. We are so pleased with the beautiful set of sliding french doors installed by Window Depot.
Description of Work: We replaced our original french doors with sliding french style doors. Since the new doors were slightly larger than the originals, the work crew had to expand the opening. The work is seamless and the molding around the door was replaced with no damage. Everything was caulked, the area inside and out was cleaned and all debris was hauled away.

Window Depot showed up on time and were very efficient. The workmen were careful not to cause or leave any mess inside. They were fast but did an excellent job. The caulking was a work of art; absolutely perfect. I have referred 2 co-workers and would not hesitate to use them again.

The salesman talked a good story. The windows would reduce noise, would definitely improve the energy efficiency in the rooms and the installation would be done in a quality manner. Boy was he wrong. Luckily we only contracted with this firm to replace windows in 2 rooms and not the whole house. It was horrible. The installers arrived 3 hours late and had arrived from the warehouse with some of my windows and some of another customer. That should have been my first clue as to their capabilities. They were going to simply leave and reschedule the project. I had to call the salesman and he brought the correct window. Their workmanship was terrible. They used hammers and screwdrivers to beat the old windows out of the jamb. I even offered to let them use some of my saws and pry bars but they didn't know how to use them. They just beat the window frame until it broke apart. They damaged my home in doing so. While beating one frame, it broke into pieces, one part flew across the room and hit an antique table, damaging it. On a second floor window, they broke the old frame and it fell onto my deck and damaged it. In addition, during the installation they broke two of the new windows. Now they had to order new windows from the factory, and the crew was going to return at a later date to install them. I refused to allow the same crew onto my property to install the other windows so they sent their chief mechanic--a more qualified person, the second time. (Regrettably, as I subsequently found out, the damage was already done.) After a while, I watched them like a hawk and even had to stop their work on numerous occasions to get them to do the work properly and in accord with building code requirements. Thank goodness I was home and could see the poor workmanship and get them to make corrections on the spot. Unfortunately, I did not catch all of their failures and we are suffering for it now. In addition to the poor workmanship for the installation, they left the property a mess with trash, caulking tubes, and debris all around the neighborhood. I later had to hire someone to clean it or be faced with fines by the homeowners association. Their chief installer did the second day's window installation (on the windows that had been broken by the first installation team). He, at least, knew how to remove and install the windows with the proper tools. While he was there I asked him to look at the windows that that first crew had installed. When I showed him some of the areas where air was coming into the house, he agreed that should not happen. He looked at the windows and added some foam tape to reduce the air blowing in and said that nothing else could be done because the window frames are at their maximum adjustment point. When I asked him if that meant the windows were incorrectly installed, he had nothing to say. The new windows leak as much air as the old ones that I had replaced. The air coming in is enough to cause the drapes to blow around. If all they are going to do is add foam tape, I could do that with the old windows and save thousands of dollars! In another problem area, the salesman had been asked about noise reduction. He said the top of the line windows we bought would reduce outside noise significantly. There is almost no difference between the old windows and the new windows in noise reduction. I am still waiting to hear from the firm about correcting the problems which should be covered under the warranty. They have not responded to my letters (I had to resort to certified mail). I am still waiting for them to do something about the windows, and to discuss the damage repairs they need to do. I strongly recommend against using this firm.
