We had SA Home Improvement build a detached 24 x 24 garage and we are very pleased with how it turned out... Working with Seddik and his crew was a pleasure from beginning to end. I interviewed 14 contractors and decided to go with SA Home Improvement because they thought of details that should have been included in the bids from the other contractors (retaining wall, moving huge amount of dirt for the location and paving to name a few) and it was obvious they offered quality workmanship (concrete slab as opposed to a competitor's cinder block walls on their bid). The SA Home Improvement architect did a great job designing the new garage to our specs (it needed to look just like our current garage and tie in with our house) and it was a pleasure to work with them on the plans. I've had friends say "it looks like it's always been here" which is the utmost compliment since that is what we were going for in our design. Seddik and his crew worked in a timely manner while building the garage with integrity and quality. This is my first "build" project (I have done other bathroom and kitchen renovations with other companies and wish I had known about SA Home Improvement) so I needed to be educated on every step of the way as to what was happening each day. Seddik and his crew answered all of my questions and never made me feel bad or silly...Seddik had so much patience with each of my questions. The crew cleaned up the project mess every day and I was very impressed how hard the construction team worked every day...it was obvious they really cared about doing a quality job. I highly reccomend SA Home Improvement for a custom build or renovation. I hope to have them back within the year for a bathroom project. These folks are top notch and I am grateful for a stress free garage build that turned out amazing. My husband and I are very happy with SA Home Improvement and are grateful we chose them for our garage build.

We have had a terrible experience with this home renovation contractor. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. In short, we signed a contract in November 2011 to remodel a townhouse and now, in August of 2012, we have yet to be able to move into our home after a job that was estimated to take 52-55 business days. The contract price was much less than many others (although we provided 90% of the materials) and the contractor came recommended from a trusted colleague for whom the contractor had performed much smaller jobs. It is clear now after months of delay and headache, we should known the price was too good to be true. After now paying our original mortgage for six months more than planned while the renovation is completed, our budget is busted and savings depleted. For weeks at a time, and at one point for nearly a month, there was absolutely no work done on the job with no communication or explanation as to why. Serious error after serious error piled up, including problems with plumbing which have led to two or three attempts to correct shoddy work for each of the 3.5 bathrooms in the townhouse. The list of poor workmanship that required remediation includes leaky plumbing, sloppy painting, crude carpentry, uneven cabinet installation, cracked hardwood flooring, and the list goes on. After continual, daily review of the work done, the project has been almost completed to the desired quality, but as another reviewer noted, the constant supervision required to ensure quality work is exhausting and infuriating. The contractor at one point changed the locks on the house against our express wishes without providing a key and failed to inform us until we showed up and were unable to get into our home. There were numerous attempts to get more money from us for overpriced "change orders" that were accompanied by promises that work would resume "soon." Multiple workers on the job have contacted us directly claiming they have not been paid by the owner/general contractor. Our many attempts to verify the workers have been paid have been met with silence or ridicule. We recently showed up at the townhouse to find a painter who was not licensed or credentialed working alone at the property, only to learn that he was not part of the contractor's professional work crew and had been hired as a day laborer. Every time we threatened to take our story to the county or Angie's list, we got a day or two more of work (with the same need for constant supervision), and then quickly resorted to the same cycle of frustration. Some of the workers on the job feel so badly for us that have begun to explain how the the general contractor actively moved them from our project because of his desire to punish us for demanding that the contract be completed under the agreed terms. We have finally decided this nonsense had to stop because we can't bear the stress or lack of professional behavior any longer. We have called the contractor and told him that his unsavory business practices would be reported to the proper authorities and shared with others.
Description of Work: Kitchen renovation to include cabinet installation, moving of plumbing, painting, and appliance installation. Installation of wood floors on main level. Re-working main level interior walls and bathroom based on architect design. Tile installation in multiple bathrooms. Installation of crown molding, baseboard, and doors throughout townhouse. Painting of walls and doors. Installation of egress well and egress window. Installation of shower and bath, toilets, sinks and vanities.

We spoke with atleast 6 different installing companies and got quotes. I researched all of the companies for experience and reputation. SA Home Improvement had great reviews and came in thousands less than other installers. Seddik stopped by my house the next night and started taking measurements. He understood exactly what we wanted to do and they delivered exactly that. Ana was a pleasure to work with. She was very understanding of what we requested and she sits and listens to our needs. The only problem we experienced was a small hole was put in our floor when the moved the new refrigerator into the kitchen. Not that big of a deal to us, but it was a mistake on their part. All cabinets were installed perfectly level and under cabinet lighting is amazing. Seddik was very helpful in he worked with other companies that we purchased our materials from. We purchased our appliances from HHGregg, our tile from The Tile Store, our cabinets from Home Depot and our granite countertops from a granite store in springfield. Seddik took all of those stores phone numbers and made phone calls on my behalf. He ensured that all materials would arrive on time which took those duties off my hands. This was a huge burden that I did not have to worry about. All matertials arrived on time and correct models and quantities. Overall our experience with SA Home Improvement was amazing. We are having them remodel our bathroom now. I highly recommend SA Home Improvement.
Description of Work: SA Home Improvement removed all cabinets and appliances in our kitchen. They installed new cabinets, appliances, backsplash tiles, under cabinet lighting and painted the walls and ceilings. I must say, I looked at multiple installers for experience and price. SA Home Improvement estimated a lot less than what others were giving us as an estimate. Seddik arrived exactly when my cabinets pulled up to my front door. From that minute, Seddik took charge and started tasking his workers; who all worked very hard the entire time. The workers were very nice and professional. They are all skilled at what they do and kept the noise to a minimum since we had a baby in the house.

The kitchen remodel was very stressful and time intensive for us. We had to supervise most of the work being done ourselves. We were given the option to install new dry wall but it wasn't explained that without installing new drywall, the entire kitchen would be off (crown molding slanted, etc) due to the angles of the existing dry wall. When the cabinet drawer pulls were installed, the cabinet doors were not opened to searate them from the cabinet wood behind them. Now we have drill marks on the cabinet wood behind each door where the drill went too far through the door. I had asked that foam be inserted between the cabinets, dry wall and the actual wall to prevent critters from finding a home on these spaces. After finding mouse droppings in the kitchen under the stove, we idnetified a signifiant space between the cabinets, dry wall and exterior wall which we now have to seal. There is also a cold draft in the kitchen as a result of not having that insulation. The travertile tiles had to be relaid multiple times because they were not even, scratched during installation of applicances, or cracked from heacy tools being dropped on them. At $10/tile, these were expensive mistakes. We were asked whether we wanted a "shelf" that came with a cabinet to be installed and we said no, turns out that wasn't a shelf, it was the piece of wood to use to close off the cabinet where it overlaps the cabinet it meets. Failing to install this piece provided a large entry way for drafts and a critter to make their way into that cabinet. There were multiple attempts made at installing our molding, the molding wasn't cut properly so a lot of wood putty was used to fill it in. We were never completely satisfied with the result but got tired of the constant conversations to correct it. The second project with the pass through went reasonably well compared to the kitchen. The person actually doing the work was skilled and did a good job. However, there was debris in our yard from the removal of our dry wall which wasn't cleaned and dry wall mud and been spilled in the dry way and splashed on our fense and concrete walk way which weren't cleaned to our satisfaction. I'm writing this review now because when we bought the tile for our kitchen we also bought enough of the same tile to retile our adjoining family room. The tile was not cheap, travertine at just over $10/sq ft. S A transported all of the tile (for kitchen and family room) and stored it in our basement via a walk out entry to the basement. Due to the difficulty with the tile, we decided to have a different company do the tile work in our family room. We recently had the tiling done only to discover that 70% of the tile for the family room had been broken costing us over $2,000 to replace, having to go to multiple stores to find the specific tile in inventory. 18 months later we continue to find corners that were cut with our remodel.
Description of Work: We hired S A Home Improvement to do a complete remodel of our kitchen in 2009. The kitchen was gutted, new tile flooring was installed, cabinets installed, appliances, glass backsplash, and lighting. Although the remodel did not go well, we also hired them to create a pass through from our kitchen to our living room, figuring this was a pretty straight forward project. S A home improvement was recommended to us by The Tile Shop where we were purchasing our tile. It is my understanding the Tile Shop has since removed this company from their referral list.
