Description of Work: I have a story of what the word guarantee/warranty really means. Approximately 12 years ago we had Richards remodel our tiny kitchen into a efficient cooking space. We were very happy with their work in all aspects. Well, apparently while installing the kitchen cabinets, the installer drilled a very tiny hole into our main drain pipe from the bathroom above the kitchen. Over the coarse of the next 8 years we never noticed anything along that laundry room wall as we had "stuff" covering it. Then during the last 4 years while we were out of the country our renters started to notice a leak in the basement. They noticed discolored water trickling very slowly down the concrete wall in the laundry room. Not enough to cause flooding. We were told it was most likely water from all of the heavy rains Virginia experienced as the leak was only seen from time to time. After moving back in we noticed it ourselves. We called a plumber and he could not figure out where the water was coming from on the inside of the house. His suggestion was to remove the siding on the outside and look from there so my husband did and lo and behold he discovered what the cause was. A tiny hole had been drilled into the 3 inch drain pipe while installing the kitchen cabinets. We called Richards to let them know what we discovered and Larry Richards came out within the hour and sent his plumber to fix the leak right away at no charge. The professional prompt friendly service we received 12 years ago is still a strong character suit of Richards Construction. I have told all of my friends this unbelievable story and how Richards Construction's guarantee is what they say. "100%" !!!! Thank you so much Larry.

Best part is they warranty all work and final payment is not due until the job is completed to the customer's satisfaction. We used them to remodel our kitchen and they did a great job and a year later we had them do our bathrooms. We never worried about the quality of the work or that we would like the final result.
Description of Work: Remodeled two bathrooms and recaulked and regrouted 8 year old bathroom.

Description of Work: We only got an estimate from this company. They seemed to want to do more than we wanted. The estimate was higher than we wanted to spend. We really wanted to do the minimum for our kitchen and this company may just specialize in higher end kitchen remodeling. Didn't seem like a bad place, the guy was nice it just wasn't what we were looking for.

+ 10 moreThe installation of a complete bathroom and reconfiguring the drainage of the washer and dryer in the laundry room went very well. We no longer hear the gurgling of the washer drainage in the kitchen sink. The contractors were on time and finished in about a month! I would be happy to provide before and after pictures!
Description of Work: Larry and Company installed a complete bathroom in the family room. It is beautiful. I interviewed five to six contractors and Larry was the one! I am very happy with the results. The job was completed by craftsman with the up most experience. I have more work that needs to be completed and would definitely contact Richards Construction again!

+ 4 moreI have also used them for additional work. I have a contract with them. It's been a year and a half since they performed the work. I'm still happy with the quality of their work. It's really hard to find a contractor to come out and do home improvement work. They had their own plumbers and electricians. They don't outsource that. That's a huge distinction. They do great work and are great to work with. They come in to my house and go out whenever they please. I don't have to be there or worry about anything. They are pretty much the total package. They are also reasonably priced for what we get.
Description of Work: I am using Richards Construction Inc. right now for installing a fireplace for us and replacing a natural gas line. I last used them to renovate my third and final bathroom. They installed porcelain tiles for the flooring.

+ -1 moreI signed the contract on August 24th and they said it would be 4 to 5 weeks. We finally finished up the week between Christmas and New Year's. The quality of work was really, really good. My beef was that there was no central supervisor. When each individual person came, like the carpenter, plumber or electrician, they came on their own and I had to explain things each time to each person. There was no one person watching to see that things got done. Each person thought others were waiting on something to be finished and it was in fact done. It was very frustrating. We have had to have the plumber back 3 times for leaks. It has been a very interesting experience, to say the least.
Description of Work: They remodeled my master bathroom.

+ 1 moreMy experience working with Richards Construction, Inc was absolutely superb. When making my first call, I found the receptionist friendly and eager to help. During the call she passed me over to Larry Richards, the owner. He listened as I explained the work and then, right there on the spot, he called two of his experts to set up times to come by on the same day to assess work in two different areas of the house. Larry called back the very next day, provided a written estimate over email, and, with our agreement to go forward, he was able to schedule the work without delay. The work performed was done by Don Kramer. I am extremely pleased with final result. I cannot say enough positive things about Don?s skill, professionalism and straightforward manner in accomplishing this task. From the initial estimate to the finished product, he listened to my concerns, provided insight to arrive at the right solution, and delivered a quality product right on target with the estimate. It is clear to me that Richards Construction is an excellent business and I plan to ask for their help in the future. I appreciated doing business with Larry and his quality team.
Description of Work: The work consisted of the replacement of a French door leading from the second story master bedroom to a small exterior balcony. The old door that was replaced was leaking so there was water damage to the framing around the door and to the subfloor at the door threshhold. A decorative sunburst above the door was also replaced with a Fypon-constructed version. Both of these involved areas of rotted word and, therefore, some redesign was required to ensure correct weather sealing. Once the old sunburst was removed, additional plywood backing was required to ensure integrity and to provide the correct appearance. Because the door and sunburst were already on-hand, doorframe work and trim work were required as part of the new installation.

+ -1 moreMy powder room had outdated wallpaper, ceramic tile flooring, and builder grade vanity. When Larry saw how the rest of our home was decorated with furniture from our time in Asia, he offered suggestions of an Asian theme for the vanity and mirror that I loved. It was not too extreme in design, so it could also be attractive if the next owner prefers a contemporary look. All of his employees showed up on time and cleaned up completely before they left for the day. The whole project was completed in 2 weeks. I will definitely hire the Richards Construction Group again when we are ready to remodel another room. The price was slightly less than another contractor had given. Additionally, I was thrilled they were willing to remodel just the powder room; most others that I contacted would only do a powder room if they could do another bathroom or the kitchen, too.
Description of Work: Richards Construction Inc. remodeled a powder room. They replaced the dry wall, tile, toilet, sink, vanity, mirror and light fixture. The walls were painted with one coat of paint.

+ 0 moreLarry was really easy to work with and all employees are very courteous. There was never any "sales" pressure during the entire process. The contract process was nice with payments requested only after certain milestones in the project. They have a huge showroom where you can get a lot of ideas for flooring, cabinets, etc. A design consultant is available to help with various selections. Larry was responsive to my concerns about some more challenging parts of the project. I was happy with the end result.
Description of Work: I had 2 small full-bathrooms completely remodeled and new electrical panel (circuit box) installed to replace existing smaller panel. The bathrooms received all new fixtures and tile flooring/surrounds.

+ 6 moreThey usually only do start to finish jobs and that is what they like to do, but we pieced out the work to different contractors. Overall it was a good experience. I would recommend them. Construction is a not pleasant process to go through. I would use them again. They were not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. The quality of their workmanship was really good. They were very conscientious and I wasn't expecting that.. They did a very good job of cleanup.

+ 6 moreLarry, the owner, is very professional and has good ideas. We didn't have anything to complain about in the process. They did a nice job, the office staff was good and all the subs were good. They came recommended to us by a family friend.
Description of Work: Richards Construction Inc did a fairly large kitchen, bathroom and bedroom remodel. They stripped out the old kitchen and started over again and put in cabinetry, etc. They tore out a wall between two bedrooms and made the master bathroom larger. They also did electrical work through a subcontractor.

Richards didn't work on it full time and you weren't quite sure who and when someone was going to show up - It is how they schedule different workers and jobs. + 12 moreWe love our beautiful new kitchen. Larry and his team did a great job. They came in on time and on budget. (This was true when they did our basement a few years ago, too.) Kaki was very helpful during the design phase. And once work started we were very impressed with all the workers. Scott, Kenny, Danny and Reuben are all great: knowledgeable, professional craftsmen and all around nice guys. And when we received our final bill, we were pleased that there were no nasty surprises. They were not a firm known for being green building experts and this concerned us at first. But they were open to dealing with our special requests (like LED recessed lights and no-VOC paint, etc.) Our only small complaint with the company is that sometimes communication isn't as good as we would have liked. We weren't usually home during the day, so sometimes we'd call or email a request to the office and it seemed like a slightly different version made it to the on-site team. We weren't always sure when different tasks were getting done so we sometimes didn't have our materials chosen in time (though mostly we were just really slow at this). But these were minor inconveniences and not nearly as important as the fact that the work was excellent, timely, and cost exactly what they said it would. We would definitely use Richards Construction again.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen renovation. They demolished our old kitchen and DR down to the rafters, removed a wall, built arches, rewired electrical, plumbing, and radiators, replaced a window, put in all new cabinets, countertops, lighting, backsplash tiles, painting, etc.

+ 5 moreThe work went like clock work. The planning, including the arrival of materials and workers, reflected expertise above what I've seen before in many general contreactors. All workers including master plumbers, master electricians and capenters were employees of the company and were top notch in their specialities. There were no subcontractors to deal with. Their team was obviously use to working together. The company is a little pricy, but well worth it for the quality and efficiency of the work. Support in design and layout was also excellent. They have a showroom and designers available at their Lorton facilty. Very professional. They also assisted me in obtaining storage and moving services separate from the main contract.
Description of Work: The job was remodeling my basement family room including installing a new full bathroom, upgraded Electrical service (100 amp to 200 amp), framing, dry wall, painting, lighting, electrical and all finish work.

+ -1 moreWhen we have guests, we proudly show off our new bathrooms. We've recommended Larry and his team to every neighbor who's contemplated re-doing their kitchens and baths, and our neighbors have also been thrilled with their professional results.
Description of Work: Our condo was built in the early 1980s, and the two bathrooms were soooo dated. We heard many other owners had used Richards Construction so we called them. Totally professional!!! They worked with us as we wanted to do the demolition and tile work ourselves. We tore out the old bathrooms to the studs, and Larry Richards' construction experts did the proper drywall, electrical and plumbing. They were careful to protect walls and carpet. We pulled the old tubs and chose custom shower pans and glass enclosures. The planner showed us examples on their design floor, and we saved money by ordering our own sinks, vanities and toilets from E-Bay, granite and travertine from Home Depot on sale. Larry did the measurements himself and called many times to make sure we were in agreement on next steps in the remodel.

Communication and coordination were excellent. I only wish I had contracted them years earlier as the new kitchen has not only updated our home and added value, it has transformed and enhanced our living space.
