DO NOT hire Nice Home Services unless you are independently wealthy; moreover, there is virtually no warranty. I purchased a Fireplace Cleaning and Inspection package through Angies List during the summer to prepare my gas fireplace for the winter. During the inspection, the technician learned I needed a new part and I paid (over $600) for the repair and cleaning. Once winter rolled around, the fireplace did not work. Huh?! I called Nice Home Services and they came out on a service call. No sooner did one technician start tinkering with the fireplace, than the second one started trying to push a maintenance package for my HVAC system, water heater, and fireplace. It was a very hard push to overcome my reluctance, but I declined. Meanwhile, the other technician said he found the problem: the pilot light burner was dirty and had gummed up. Dirty?! Huh?! I thought, "It was just cleaned...$600!" Then the two began to push me to have a (new) cleaning done on the unit. They pointed out all the soot and reminded me of the gummed up pilot light burner. That's when I pointed out that a Nice Services technician had already "cleaned" the unit a few months previous and I hadn't used it since. They checked their i-Pad's and discovered I had in fact paid for a previously cleaning just a few months prior. A moment of awkward silence followed. Curiously, they then insisted I needed another cleaning...and they again pushed me to sign up for an annual maintenance agreement. I declined again. Then the current repair: the technician took a piece of sandpaper, rubbed it over the pilot light, and it worked. No solvents, sprays, parts, or tools, just sandpaper. In other words, he cleaned it. I asked if there was a warranty on the previous cleaning since it apparently was unsatisfactory...I was told no warranty. No warranty. The new bill? Over $400! That's right, over $400 after paying the first $600! It is the absolute most expensive home "repair" job I've ever had--especially if you add in the cleaning fee I had previously purchased. It took the repairman two minutes (tops) to sandpaper the gunk off of the pilot light, and the cost was over $400. But I'm not done. They continued to push an annual maintenance agreement? I thought: "So I pay an annual fee so that if something goes wrong, you have a monopoly to come out and overcharge me a third time?" No thanks. For the next three weeks, salespeople from Nice Home Services continued to call me trying to sell me a maintenance agreement (I guess I'd call me too since I was willing to pay the incredulous bill even after a so-called "cleaning."). That said, the technician was fairly polite and punctual. But, c'mon, they did not stand behind (or even recognize) their prior cleaning service and the charge was stunningly high. I absolutely will not ever use Nice Home Services again, thank goodness I didn't buckle and sign up with the home warranty--good grief that would have been even more wasteful. In sum, if you are wealthy and if you have extra time for return visits by technicians despite earlier expensive visits, then consider Nice Home Services (over $400 for minutes of duplicative work). For me, I will look elsewhere. As for Nice Home Services, feel free to refund me my money if you truly stand behind your cleaning services. I look forward to reading your response; I hope to see the words, "Please call us, we stand behind our work and we will gladly refund you the $400."

When Jesus showed up to do the work he was late. The first thing he said there is a balance of $99.00. I let him know I had already paid through Angie's List. He called the office and they cleared it up. It seems Jesus had an attitude from the beginning. We had a confrontation concerning the gas valve. I told him not to monkey with it because the gas company had already looked at it. Jesus told me the fireplace is leaking gas. I have never had leaking gas. Jesus asked if I am accusing him of cheating or breaking something. I felt that he was looking to up-sell a service. When I tried to ask some questions he became very defensive. He put everything back together and left.
Description of Work: I purchased a deal for $99 for a Gas Log Fireplace Tune-Up, Cleaning, and Inspection.

They did very good work and their very prompt and very communicative about the problem. They were just very prompt and able to help us quickly, they were very forth coming with estimate, gave us a lot of different choices. I only met them over the phone but they were very nice and professional and our tenant who met them in person said they were great.

It turned out disastrously. There were no additional fees but I am alleging that they caused $1000 worth of damage. The damage came because they insisted on inspecting one of my heating systems. I am completely dissatisfied with them.

Initial work was good but then they wanted to add significant cost for new coals and embers (way over priced compared to Home Depot). Finally they proposed to replace our faulty igniter, we agreed but when they returned the small part was not the problem and then they wanted to replace a significant portion of the apparatus We weren't convinced that they had correctly diagnosed the problem.
Description of Work: Conducted preventative maintenance on gas fireplace. Initial cost was fair. They were professional in conducting the work.

I probably would not have used them except it's hard to find people that do this. I don't like the service with a business contract. I'll use them until I find somebody different. The work on the fireplace was fine. No complaints. They turned the fireplace on, they cleaned the fireplace, it was fine. They did some extra, they cleaned the grating on the front of the fireplace, they did a great job.

Really bad. Stay away from this people if you want a reliable company with an MO of scamming their customers, messing up their systems and overcharging them for their services. In addition to this, they schedule you for a time and show up HOURS later!!!! So unprofessional!!!!
Description of Work: They not only overcharged me for their services but fooled me into getting a service contract with them. Every time they have come to service my systems, they completely mess them up, so they can charge me to replace them with new ones or new parts. Stay away from them. The guy who overcharged me $300 for filling my AC with gas, came to clean my fireplace and completely messed it up. He came again to fix it and started giving my quotes to replace the whole thing without even checking the unit. I ended up asking him to leave for obviously he did not know what he was doing. Please stay away from this people. I have told all the people on Facebook that I know and I have asked them to spread the word. Please note that they don't even have a rating on BEtter Business Bureau, and now I know why!!! I'm holding the responsible if anything that happens in my house due to their lack of capacity to service my fireplace correctly.

The worker that clean my dryer vent was very professional and courteous. The disappointing part of the experience was that a second person came with the technician that wanted to sell us a new hot water heater and checked out of furnace without our requesting the inspections. My wife turned down the request to replace our water heater. For the next couple of days salesmen kept emailing and calling us to try to sell us a new water heater. All we wanted was our dryer vent cleaned not a hard sell to buy other services.

I was very pleased. The process of making the decision wasn't easy for me, but they walked me through it and explained my options well (several times!). The original mechanic (Maurice) was very good about explaining what was going on, and helped me with a decision. I subsequently spoke to the owner (Craig Elliott) who took a lot of time to help me work it through (for example, should I get Trane or Rheme; I went with Rheme because it was substantially less expensive). They did the work two days later, and the team they sent was on time and worked all-day to get it in place and make sure it worked well. They were careful to put cloths down to keep the house clean, and cleaned up the mess in the backyard very well. The company subsequently sent their field manager (Mike Hudson) out to make sure all was working well. The system is working very well, and I was happy with their services. I got a 10% discount because I was a Angie's List member.
Description of Work: I had some air conditioning issues, which turned out to be the compressor. Given the age of my unit and furnace, we decided to replace the whole furnace and A/C unit. I have been working with them for a year or two, and they did some duct cleaning, some repairs, and the spring check-up.

Short version: Scheduled appointment window: 0800-1200 Tech finally arrived 1230 Tech departed 1545 Spent as much time trying to upsell me to a new fireplace, and again as much time on the phone (both in my unit and down in his truck), as he did actually working on the fireplace. He was here for over 3 hours for literally about an hours worth of work performed. Long Version: Contacted NICE Home Services based off of their positive AngiesList reviews. I needed a cleaning on the gas fireplace as I've only recently moved in (June) and with it being November, it's almost fireplace season. I told them that it needed a thorough cleaning/servicing becasue only about half of the jets were producing fire. Was given a time-window of 08:00-12:00 for the service call. When I booked the appointment I told the receptionist that I was taking half a day off of work for this cleaning service. At 10:00 the office called me and said he'd be to my home within the hour, and that they'd call me 30 minutes prior to his arrival. I had to call them back at 1115 asking if he was ever going to show up; as I'd only requested half a day off of work and was expected back in the office by 1300 (an hour past the given service call time). The office said that they booked my routine cleaning appointment *after* an unknown-problem diagnosis and repair at a different residence and that the tech ran into problems. The technician pulled into my parking lot at 12:10...and then sat in his car vaping and messing around on his phone until he came to my door at 12:30. (I can see the parking lot from my unit.) Tech spent about 20-25 minutes familiarizing himself with the system, figuring out how it was wired and how it worked. Then went back down to his truck to get the tools/etc he needed for the job. He then sat in the drivers seat of his truck for another 10 minutes on the phone and vaping before coming back up to finally start the cleaning/servicing job. The tech did bring a drop cloth that he used to put the logs and 2 or the 3 glass panes from teh fireplace on while he was cleaning them. All the glass was pretty sooty from poor combustion in the fireplace...but it was somewhat bothersome that he just put the 3rd pane of glass on my beige carpet. Luckily there was no mess on the carpet...but still...that's exactly what the drop cloth was for. Once he had the logs done, the old fiberglass "embers" removed and replaced, and the logs back in, he stoked up the fire, and it still wasn't burning through half of the burners. He realized that the majority of the problem was that he'd put the logs back in wrong and was covering up most of the air-intakes with the logs. So...we had to wait half an hour or so just for the fireplace to cool before he could put it back together. This whole time he spent reminding me of how old the unit is, and telling me how much better a new fireplace would be, how they could offer good financing (after I told him I wasn't in a place to drop 10,000 right now), and just kept hammering on about getting an estimator out to see me etc. I understand suggesting it once, that's required...but he was annoyingly persistent about it. Anyway, after the logs were repositioned the fireplace was burning much better, more efficiently, and most of the jets were working. We found that the HOA replaced the air-inlet cover outside with an inappropriate vent cover and that the fireplace was also being somewhat starved by that. Over all...based on this experience...I would NOT recommend NICE Home Services. Though their reception staff was pleasant to deal with...they cost me an entire day out of the office for what should have been a one-hour job. Their tech, though experienced and apparently knowledgeable, spent a lot of time on the phone, far too much time working on the upsell instead of the service that was being paid for, and I'm still going to have to take the glass back off of the fireplace (now that i know how it's attached) and give it (as well as the inside of the gas fireplace) a much more thorough cleaning. He didn't even touch the inner metal fascia nor (beige) brickwork for cleaning, it's all still covered with soot from the poor gas combustion caused by the improperly placed gas-logs....and the cobwebs from a season of idleness are still blowing around inside. I will not be going back to them for any future work. And I'd recommend, for anyone who wants to try with them...be sure you block off an entire day for a one-hour job...they don't understand scheduling at all. And when the invoiced service was "Gas Fireplace Cleaning and Refreshing"...and I need to open it up to finish cleaning it....well, that speaks volumes.

Terribly dissatisfied with the pricing. Felt that the pipes could have been repaired without the bend in the pipe run and the more than unnecessary expense. I'm rating at a C-minus because of the price & felt trapped by the ultimate result of the price. I rated B's across the board because the plumber was responsive and ultimately satisfied the job. The thing that irked me was the thought that the copper pipe could have been soldered as a sleeve replacement instead of charging $700 for just one of the pipe repairs. I don't recall the final pricing as its been over 2 years since the repair.

I vowed I would never be one of those people who leave a cranky review. But I have to say that my second experience with N.I.C.E. left me very angry. While the people I spoke to were faultlessly polite, the company policy is maddening. They installed a replacement gas furnace in my home. Through an oversight, they mistakenly re-installed a leaking humidifier unit, which had been disconnected. I readily admit I did not communicate this problem to them, so I don't fault them for the mistake or re-installing it, although I do question the judgment of the installer -- why would you re-install a detached unit without asking why it was detached. I do fault them for not testing the unit. It would have taken 10 seconds to turn the switch and see the leak. But when I called to ask them to come and replace the bad unit, I got a run-around in 15 mins on the phone. They would not replace the unit with the identical, unopened-in-the-box, standard unit I had purchased. They said, due to liability issues, it had to come from their vendors. True, I might have been able to return my unit to the store. But this just really ticked me off. Not to mention the British voice which greets you when you call the number -- using a British announcer is one of the gimmicks used to make a business sound more serious. Give me a break.

I liked the fact that they were willing to beat the competitor's offer. The dislike was they didn't follow up correctly.

Absolute WORST experience I've ever had with any contractor (and I've dealt with MANY contractors over the years). First, I called and scheduled an appointment with them in which case, THEY gave me a window of 12-5 the following day. So I took a half day off from work only to sit at home waiting for a tech who NEVER SHOWED UP and NEVER CALLED to let me know!!!! What the heck!!! Who does that? It wasn't until AFTER I ripped 'em on Angie's List that they called back wanting a second chance to get it right. So, okay... I rescheduled for the weekend. And, yes, they showed up this time. But... It wasn't long before I figured out on my own that a) the tech they sent was highly incompetent and b) he was really only there to try and sell me a brand new HVAC system. During his visit I counted 5 times that he mentioned the 0% financing for 12 months and the scare tactics such as mold, dust, etc, that's a health hazard and can cause all these illnesses, etc. While he DID do some diagnostics, all he wanted to talk about was the 0% financing for 12 months and 'this is a no brainer, right'? Then he quotes me $12,000 for a new system!!!! Are you FREAGIN kidding me?!?!? That's outrageous. And... That's NOT what I called for. I called to have my system FIXED at least for the time being. But that's not the end of the story... The tech was able to fix my A/C problem but later in the day when I tried using the heat, I got nothing... So we scheduled ANOTHER appointment for 2 days later. Same tech, same scare tactics, and same sales pitch. In addition, he could not diagnose where the problem was. Instead, he wanted to replace parts in the heat pump starting with the defrost board and if that didn't work, then it's probably the relay switch, and if that didn't work... Wow! Really? And the price for the defrost board alone was $958 and it goes up from there. Finally, I asked the (incompetent little) tech to close it up and I'll think about what I want to do. What I ended up doing was calling another company who diagnosed the problem to be the actual thermostat, changed it out, got the A/C and heat running perfect and only charged me $320. Additionally, he gave me a more honest and reasonable quote of $5,500 for a replacement system. We all know the saying... "Buyer be ware". Consider yourself warned.
