Nice Heating & Air

The issue: In my experience, Nice was responsive on the front end but did not stand by their work, so I don't plan to use them again. Details: Nice plumber came on short notice to fix garbage disposal and unclog two sinks, which we appreciated. We were able to use an Angie's List coupon for around $110 for the service call. Problem was the follow up -- my wife was home when upstairs sink job was done and watched the plumber take apart the pipes. At the time, she did not notice anything wrong with sink stopper (it wasn't a problem before Nice came). Work was performed on a Friday. The following Tuesday morning, I tried to use the stopper and realized it was broken -- I was able to close it, but it would not come up again and water in the sink would not drain -- so the sink was unusable. It was working fine before Nice came, so the plumber obviously caused this and overlooked properly hooking the stopper up again when he finished. I called Nice about this and the service was terrible. Took me three telephone conversations trying to explain the problem, and even then no one from Nice would agree to send a plumber back out and address the problem, unless I agreed that I might have to pay a fee. They waived the "diagnostic fee," but said if they determined on site that Nice didn't cause the problem, I'd have to pay, b/c "it's company policy." I can understand if this were a major, unrelated issue or something complicated-- but this was a minor plumbing annoyance obviously caused by Nice. They didn't finish the job right and did not stand by their work. We were desperate to get sink working again and when we enquired when we could schedule a plumber, were told the next four Saturdays in a row were entirely booked up. In the end, my Dad was passing through town and fixed it for me, so no need to deal with Nice again. This experience was the best illustration that with big companies comes bureaucracy -- rather than someone from Nice making a simple judgment and providing customer service, no representatives were empowered to make a decision on what should have been a "no brainer" -- they had to seek approval from higher ups. Higher ups wouldn't send plumber back out since they had to slavishly follow company policy. I'm going to back to the smaller local plumber that costs a little more, but who I trust to do the job right, stand by his work, and provide logical customer service. J.C. Penny's adage about the customer always being right is something Nice apparently doesn't believe in.

I contacted Nice Home Services to fix the gas line in our fireplace. When I called them, they stated that they do not service the D.C.

AVOID! I got a deal off of Angie's List for NICE Home Services to install a humidifier. They were scheduled to arrive in the morning, but I got a call saying that they had to reschedule for the afternoon because their driver called out sick. I got a call from the technician 30 minutes later stating that he was on the way. I got a call from the technician another 30 minutes later stating that he just heard he was rescheduled for the afternoon because he had to finish up a job (sounds to me like no one actually called in sick but rather wanted to cover-up a poor job from the day before). | |The technician arrived around 2 PM. The technician/his assistant left their toolbag on our carpet, which left a black stain in two places. Then when he disconnected a pipe (after I cut off the main water to the house), water sprayed all over the utility closet, soaking everything (apparently he didn't feel the need to drain the pipe first, but he decided instead to blame it on our hot water heater...sure buddy...whatever you say). Around 6:45 PM he had to leave to go to Home Depot because he didn't have everything he needed. He came back around 7:15 PM and finished at 8:00 PM. | |Not only did it take 6 hours to do this, but I got a call from NICE Home Services telling me that they needed to come back out and reinstall it. They estimate that the reinstall should take 2-3 hours, but I'm quite skeptical concerning their track record. According to the technician, it took them so long to install our humidifier that they had to cancel a service call for another house. | |Call them at your own risk. We've used Michael & Son and ARS before, and they're always been good. I highly recommend using one of those companies (or another reputable one) over these clowns. If it hadn't been for the Angie's List deal, we would have probably used Michael & Son again (and I will admit that I'm thinking about telling them to refund our money, take their equipment, and never come back and then calling Michael & Son to do the work even though they are about three times as expensive). UPDATE: The owner responded to my Yelp complaint and promised to provide me with a full refund. I called the company in February (February 12, 2015 at 3:15 PM to be exact) and was told that I would receive a refund. I reviewed my bank account, and I never received the refund that I was promised. I recently spoke with one of its customer service managers (Cherie Hudson), and she informed me that the refund had "expired" because I did not accept it. I was never informed that I needed to accept anything--any reasonable person or organization would consider me calling and asking for the refund to be "accepting" the refund. I asked her what she meant by "accepting" the refund, but she could not provide any intelligible answer. Cherie told me that she would verify whether I had called with the IT Department, but she never got back to me (I have my own phone records showing that I did). I tried calling today, and the company hung up on me three times without providing any response.

If there was an additional service that needed to be done, that was an additional charge. I wasn't crazy about that because I thought it was all included in the deal, but I needed it done and they did a good job. 2 different techs showed up 2 different times. Overall, I was really happy with them. They came on time and were at my home for less than an hour each time. They were very thorough, too.

The representative, Kenneth Stone, arrived promptly, at the scheduled time. He was very professional and offered viable options for getting the repairs completed. We kind of feel that the Mr. Stone went "above and beyond the call" as he provided a great deal of detail concerning the repair and he displayed a great deal of knowledge about plumbing while catering to our limited budget. Their prices are fair and their service is highly professional. The estimate and final report that the plumber provides is worth well over the $75.00 that we spent. The worst thing that I can say about this company is that I'm sorry we did not find them before now. We greatly appreciate Nice Home Services and would definitely recommend them to our neighbors and friends.

There were no troubles with scheduling. They were on time and punctual to the appointment. They did a good job and it was completed in less than an hour. They didn’t try to pressure me to have any additional work done. Overall, my experience with them was good.

Great. The guy was fantastic. He was a real good guy. I would give them an A+. So he's very fair like that but I don't think we got anything extra. I was down in the basement when he looked at the water heater and he gave us a straight scoop on that but I don't think we paid him anything extra. Absolutely would use this provider in the future.

Purchased $75 "Deal" through Angie's list for Nice Home Services. $50 credit for services at time of inspection was not used for any services. Service provider was nice, thoughtful, and provided good advice for potential problems and remedies for those problems. Quote for a new water heater plus install were a bit high, as well as the additional plumbing work needed. Will shop around for better deals.

It was good. I would not recommend them. The guy who came over did not have enough experience to turn the fire place on, but told me i had to spend almost 800.00 because there was something broken. But a friend of mine just came and turned it on and there was nothing broken.

I told the company over the phone that I already knew what was wrong with the toilet - that it was stopped up due to an accumulation of toilet paper or baby wipes that had clogged the pipes. They told me that they would have to send a plumber over to diagnose the problem anyway and that charge was about $110. They did let me use the $50 towards the diagnostic. I didn't need to be told that it needed a snake - I already knew that. I wanted the $50 deposit to go towards their using the snake. I had misunderstood, thinking that being offered through Angie's list, Nice Home Services would have a special deal, like an earlier dishwasher repairman who did not charge for the service call, but applied the downpayment totally to the service being performed. The plumber doing the diagnostic told me initially that the charge to snake the toilet would cost between $300 and $600! (I can't recall exactly, but it was more than $200). I said no thanks, I would just buy a new toilet. That's exactly what I ended up doing through another plumbing company. (They later lowered the price a bit.)

They came the next day, did a good job. I would use them again in the future.

I purchased the stove from Home Depot and they wanted to do a lot more work for the installation. When I called Nice Home Services, they were able to do the installation for much less work and price. They were able to come out the same day. There were additional costs that I thought were a little expensive. They completed the installation in about thirty minutes. The guy was great. They hooked up a hose and even cleaned up the area after removing the old stove. They did a great job. I have also signed up for a service contact with the furnace with them.

Servicer was very professional and nice. He really cleaned our fireplace well. Unfortunately, his vacuum exploded sending soot all over the room. Luckily we have a wet/dry vac that he was able to borrow. Don't know what we would have done if we didn't have it. Also, the logs shifted after the servicer left so we had to restack them. Otherwise, service was quick and our fireplace is working more efficiently.

The fireplace wasn’t working properly for my rental property. There was a valve problem that they adjusted and fixed it.

The provider was very friendly and tried very hard to diagnose problem. He spent two hours cleaning the unit and did a very good job. However he wasn't sure why the remote and fan wouldn't work. Suggested he needed to consult with someone in company better versed in electronic components and get back to me, which was fine. However, the next call from the company was to inform me I needed a new gas valve for $800 plus labor. WHile i was thinking about that a neighbor stoped by and easily fixed it by changing batteries in a box within the fireplace.

It was a Big Deal purchase. It was a great experience. They did very well. I had to pay extra for the pipe. The plumber was very helpful. He explained what he was doing and provided some other recommendations as well as he was doing the service. He showed up late. He was professional.

The lack of relevant knowledge from the first technician served to waste my time. Their estimates do not breakdown the labor and materials (despite me asking for that granularity) so I am no closer to understanding what goes into this. If I had to do it all over again, I would not have purchased this Big Deal coupon.

I didn't like it. The guy came in, I told him what the problem was, he cleaned it and it came on. He told me that if it kept cutting off, it would cost me 629 dollars to replace the blower. He was very professional and he came right away.

It went very well. They were on time and did a great job.

Two technicians arrived as originally scheduled and appeared to clean both glass panes of the see-through gas fireplace. The service that I paid for was also to inspect and clean the gas burner and inspect all of the gas controls. Less than three weeks later, the insides of the glass showed black streaks. I called and was told they would send a different technician. He arrived on December 24th, removed the glass panes, cleaned and re-assembled it. He left, the gas was turned on for the fireplace, and my wife began to feel dizzy and sick - The classic symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. The gas was turned off, I called the Nice company, and they said they would send the same technician back after another service call. He did arrive, and admitted that he did not tighten the wing nuts that seal the glass panes to the firebox - which allowed carbon monoxide to escape. He also changed the way that the gas logs were initially arranged, resulting in a flame pattern that my wife is now complaining is not the way it should look. I will not use this company again.

The service was good. They came out very quickly, and they set it up within a few days of purchasing. They were very responsive, prompt, professional, and they met the expectations. I bought the service, they came and did it, and they met my expectation.

We were impressed by the work that was done. We initially wanted a valve replaced but it was determined that a replacement was not necessary. We then had the gas fireplace cleaned. The total price was $179 with a $100 discount for a final price of $79.
