He gave me an estimate to snake the outside (backdoor) drain of $335 and approximately $470 to replace a leaking valve, chip some concrete block away in order to get to the pipe and replace outside valve. The part that really torqued me was that he estimated that it would take 30 minutes to chip away the block (I could do it in less) but that the price cost would be $115. I asked if his company charged $230 an hour because that's essentially what he was charging me. In fact, I overheard him on the phone saying that whole job would take approximately an hour. I was highly insulted with the outrageous price this company quoted me. I then politely asked him to leave my house. Outrageous estimate!

The technician, Leo, did a very good job and we are very pleased. The original fix Leo tried did not work and when we called back to let him know he came back out at no charge and replaced a part. We have not had any problems since. We will continue to use him.

He did not put the screws in correctly and the water was still leaking after he left. They didn't attempt to come back out to fix it until 2 days later even after I advised them that it wasn't done properly. The gentleman that came out the second time was nice and fixed the problem.

George was very nice. He spoke with his office and a new fireplace insert has been ordered. We are waiting for the insert to come in about 2-3 weeks. Once the job is completed, we will complete the review.

The dryer vent was not in standard formation so they had hard time cleaning it. They spent lot of time trying to get it cleaned. The air duct was cleaned.

Technician was very professional, arrived on time and was very polite and courteous. He definitely knew what he was doing, and, as my gas fireplace had not needed service for a while, literally had to wrestle with the thermocoupler to get it off, but he never gave up and was able to replace the part and repair my fireplace. He even went the extra mile and cleaned the glass!

The repairperson arrived avout 3 PM. I met him and accompanied him to the fireplace. He looked at the fireplace and looked at the Dante Valve key and said that a holw would have to be cut into the dry wall and that thheir work didn't include patching or painting. He then asked me if I wanted him to do the repair at a cost of $600. I said that that seemed like an outragious cost to replace a valve that retails for $45 on line. He advised that he only did the work and didn't set the price. I advised that I didn't intend to spend that much and that he could just leave. He opened nothing, and did no work.

The provider was nice enough to let me reschedule due to the snowstorm with no charge or headache! They also called ahead of time to let us know when he would be arriving. The final report was very impressive and professional. Their checklist is very extensive and complete with pictures that was emailed to me. They made a suggestion for a repair that I may end up using an Angie's List Big Deal that they have which is cheaper. I didn't end up using their $50 credit because there wasn't anything else to really repair (no news is good news!)

I'm not convinced the problem is completely solved as I'm still having problems with the toilet. While the plumber was here things worked fine during the toilet paper flush test, but when there are more contents in the toilet, the flushing doesn't go as well and I have to break out the plunger (which happens a few times a week). Cost of service call: $109 (with $50 credit towards service through Angie's List Big Deal) Cost of snaking toilet: $185 - I'm not sure what the going rate is, but this seems a bit steep for a 20 minute visit As a disclaimer, I've used this company for gas fireplace maintenance and was really happy. I'm not sure I would use them again for plumbing though.

It turned out very well. They also cleaned it out and replaced some old stuff. I have been using it since and it is working really well. And because they gave me a credit, I didn't have to pay as much upfront for the whole service. I was pretty happy with them and would use them again. The repair man was very informative, professional and he gave me some choices. I could have spent more, which I didn't really have, to do the same thing. I liked what I did choose. I ended spending like another $100.

The Service provider called me 30 minutes before the arrival time to inform me of his impending arrival. He arrived on time and immediately diagnosed the issue. The issue was caused by a faulty sensor, that had calcification on it. This was causing the sensor to provide false reading about heat rectification, causing the fireplace to perform a auto shutdown. The service provider cleaned up the calcification and cleaned up the "extra crispy" stones and chips. He also added some extra stones and chips for a additional cost of $26. While the additional cost was a surprise, he was happy to offer a rebate for AngiesList customers. The quality of the work and attention to detail (e.g. Shape of Flame) by the service provider was well worth the cost. The fireplace is working great now and does not shutdown unless i switched it off. I was extremely impressed by the professionalism and details provided by the service provider and will happily hire them again without hesitation.

Nice Home Services arrived on time, was clean, and worked hard. The reason that we called Nice: we thought we smelled gas and thought there was a leak in our fireplace. I found a Package from Nice for $100 that included a free estaminet and $100 towards fixing the fireplace. So when the Nice employee arrived I wasn't home. He took my fireplace apart and determined that the fireplace was not leaking but just needed to be cleaned. This informtion was told to me via family member. I called Nice and asked how much a cleaning would cost, and was advised $198- $100 ( I already paid)= $98. When I arrived home, I was advised by the Nice Employee that I needed a "Level D" cleaning. This would coast me $375- $100( I already paid)= $275. I told the employee what the other employee had told me over the phone. Both talked to each other on the phone and determined that I an additional $275. I paid the fee, the fire place was cleaned in 20 min, and the fireplace works great. Later I found out that brand new my fireplace would have been $425. My advise- Go with someone that will give you a free estimate and doesn't require $100 down.

The appointment was setup quickly and kept. The work was done with care. Both fireplaces look great and are producing much more heat now. Prompt, fair price, and knowledgeable technician means I will use Nice Home Services again.

Very disappointed with leaky humidifier installation we got as an Angie's List deal. Pro: Great humidifier, friendly folks, good price, quick response Con: Two water leaks in first few weeks!!!! Given the amount of stress this has caused us, we're giving NICE a D overall. The first leak occurred because the drain line coming out of the HVAC sump pump froze when it exited the house. The risk of this happening in the dead of winter should have been painfully obvious to any HVAC professional and should have been addressed up front or explained to us. I am not an HVAC guy and never gave a second thought to how much water the humidifier would go through, or where the water would need to drain to-->THAT'S WHY WE HIRED AN HVAC GUY. If the technician (who we should say was super nice) had pointed this out beforehand, we probably would have waited to use the humidifier until we knew this had been fully addressed. After we discovered and triaged the mini-flood caused by the drain line leak (not too much damage fortunately), we called NICE who got back to us quickly and sent someone out in a timely fashion. The technician did a minimum fix, which was to snip the drain line just after it exited the house. He then explained that a permanent fix would require running the drain line to the sewage ejector pump in the basement bathroom (it's not a sump pump--that's a whole other plumbing saga). The technician said he'd only charge us for a service call and not labor. But since this issue should have been obvious to the installer, it seems like he should have said it was on the house. I haven't even checked to see if they charged us for the visit or not, but I think the fact that the technician didn't take ownership of the issue is a black mark. The second leak occurred where the technician tapped one of the water lines going into the water heater. We never touched or adjusted this little water valve, so this was clearly an issue with the quality of installation. To sum up: NICE folks are very nice and responsive, but we will never use them again because of the leaky humidifier install--because the first leak should have been anticipated by the technician and the second leak should not have happened. We're having our regular HVAC guys sort this out. Lessons learned: -----Get a *&%#-ing basement flood alarm. These, I now know, are super cheap and effective. Why insurance companies don't just give these away is beyond me. -----Don't just rely on a service provider's overall Angie's List grade--pay close attention to the different types of service provided and see what kind of feedback the provider has been getting on that particular service. (Duh, why didn't I do that in the first place?). I see now that this provider has several poor reviews related specifically to humidifiers and really wish we had just stuck with our regular HVAC service company (H & F, who we also found on Angie's List). -----Whole house humidifiers can go through a lot of water (depending on type of humidifier), so drainage must be thoroughly considered in advance. -----Don't get a manually-controlled humidifier when you already have an awesome Nest home thermostat. Spring for a humidifier that can be hooked into the Nest.

They were all very pleasant and seemed knowledgeable. I would have no problem recommending them.

Unit had been randomly cutting off. George quickly diagnosed the problem as coming from two loose wires, which he fixed before disassembling, cleaning, and re-assembling the unit. Everything appears to work fine!

Leo from NICE Services called me about a half an hour before he was due to arrive to let me know that he was on his way. Once he arrived, he put a blanket down in front of the fireplace, so as to not mess up my carpet and before I knew it, he had the fireplace lit. He showed me how to light it, just in case it ever went out again. He suggested that I have it cleaned since it was definitely dirty. I bought the home in November, but had just moved in on January 31st and had no idea when it was last cleaned. By the time that he was done cleaning it, it looked like a brand new fireplace! I would definitely suggest NICE services to anyone else. I have no other experience to compare it to since this is my first home purchase, but I do plan to use them for other services in my home.
