Marshall Roofing Siding and Windows

Norval came out to do an estimate. Was responsive and provided quote fairly quickly. However, it took over 4 weeks to get the roof repair job scheduled. The repair crew didn't include all of the details in their paperwork that Norval had put on the work order so I asked for a final inspection with Norval to make sure it was done. That took 2 months to schedule. On the date he was supposed to arrive, he didn't show up. I called the office and they didn't know why he wasn't there. I had taken the entire morning off waiting for him. After 3 more calls to his office, he finally called back and said his computer was down and didn't know about the appointment. He said the office would call to reschedule. They did not. I called back a few days later and they didn't know they were supposed to reschedule. I explained what happened and they put in an appointment for the following week. No apologies from anyone at Marshall about this complete lack of responsiveness. When Norval finally came out, he had to fix some of the work by the crew since it was not done completely. He also looked at the inside of my house to give a quote on repairing the drywall that had been damaged. He never sent it. That was 2 months ago and I am still waiting (well, not really waiting any more - I'm not expecting it now that it's been so long). At the end of the day, my roof no longer leaks. However, it took 4 months from the time of the estimate to the time the final inspection was done. All this for a simple repair job that took a two-person crew about half a day to do. They are a very frustrating company to work with.

Marshall did the roof on the house and the garage a few years ago. They were very responsive and did an excellent job. This job, however, was a challenge from the beginning. Because I wanted all the exposed wood covered or replaced with non-wood material to discourage carpenter bees from resuming residence in the spring, there was a great deal of difficulty in determining the best solution. Color selection also proved a challenge. The work was excellent, but even after selecting materials, the work was not completed by Thanksgiving as requested because they failed to correctly estimate the amount of siding required. It took two additional orders of siding each with a two week order time before they could complete it. When I contacted Marshall, in May, I had no specific time schedule for the job, I had specific requirements for the appearance and for discouraging the hordes of carpenter bees that keep moving from wood to wood on my house....including freshly painted surfaces. Mike was sympathetic and worked with me on finding the solutions. By fall, I made clear that I wanted the work completed by Thanksgiving. It would have been finished, but that they failed to correctly estimate the amount of siding required. They ordered additional siding, which took two weeks to arrive. When they came to install the additional siding, They were again short. So they ordered more siding, which took an additional two weeks. They did finish before Christmas.

It went great. They were working under tough conditions last January and managed to complete the work before the big snows hit. The job took a bit over 2 days to complete and they worked steadily and determinedly to complete it as soon as they could so that the house was not open for too long. We have been quite pleased with the results and would not hesitate to hire them again.

It went great. They worked through some of the coldest weather last December and stuck with the job well after dark on one day. They were not aware going into the job how much rotted fascia board they might have to deal with and handled this aspect very well. Everything else went according to plan. And they homored my Angie's List discount coupon. I would not hesitate using Marshall Roofing again.

I contacted Marshall concerning siding damage to my split-level home from last May?s hailstorm. Doug, the estimator, was on-time for the inspection and was very efficient. He made the necessary measurements and prepared the estimate in my driveway. This was the fastest turnaround of any company that I contacted. The price was good ($8490 for whole-house siding replacement and Tyvec wrap) so we accepted the proposal and chose the Monogram double 4-in clapboard vinyl. The work crew was courteous and punctual and did an expert job under the supervision of Mr. Suh. They know their craft and really paid attention to the details. The Tyvec was nicely taped off at the edges and all of our existing windows were trimmed in vinyl and sealed. Vinyl fittings were installed at hose spigots, the dryer vent, etc. Towards the end of the job there was a rain delay and one of the walls was unfinished. Mr. Suh drove out by himself that morning to tape down the Tyvec and install J-channel against the existing wood trim, to ensure that there would be no water problems. As soon as the weather cleared the crew was back at it early in the morning to finish the job. Cleanup was excellent. The new siding looks terrific and we are very happy with it. The house is nice and tight and feels warmer already. Kudos for a job well done and I unhesitatingly recommend this company to others.

Bill Marshall spent a lot of time explaining why and pointed out potential problems. He was very professional and we appreciated the fact that he told us the roof did not need to be replaced although it meant that he was turning down a potential sale. Other contractors did not give us this candid evaluation. I will definitely call him when it's time to replace my roof.

The tech (Norvel Wright) was on time, very professional and explained everything the did very well. I will definitely use this company again.

This is the second time I've used them. They have been great both times.

Took about 48 hours to get a response to my request to schedule an estimate and when contact was made (11/3) I was told an estimator could meet me in two weeks (11/17). I told the phone rep I hoped to have a contract in place by then. She couldn't accomodate my schedule and said they were very busy. So I went with the one of the other two highly rated Angie's List companies who were able to come out in a more timely fashion.

The February 'Snowpocalypse' storm of the winter of 2009-2010 brought down sections of my house's gutter and fascia. Using Angie's List I identified Marshall as an excellently qualified local firm. The representative (Douglas McCleaf) who provided the estimate impressed me as a courteous, knowledgeable and capable professional. The estimate he provided to me was completely in line with other estimates I received. (Both for the work that needed to be done as well as the cost of doing that work.) He also took the time to go over options and alternatives as well as make some suggestions on how to choose amongst them. There was a delay in scheduling the crew as they were apparently very busy. The carpentry crew chief actually came out several days early to verify what needed to be done. (This highly impressed me!) The carpentry crew showed up on time. They did their work professionally and completed the work on schedule. They cleaned up the site when they finished. As they were working they were very courteous to me and took the time to answer all my questions. The gutter crew was also very busy and the carpentry chief was able to help ensure that the gutter team was scheduled in a timely fashion. The gutter crew came out exactly when scheduled, did their work impressively fast and moved on. Again they readily answered all my questions. I am pleased and impressed with what I saw and would be quite comfortable again in using Marshall. Actually, I have used them before. They replaced my roof about 10 years ago. They did an excellent job, were competitive in price, and extremely responsive. The only hitch occurred when their supplier failed to deliver the new shingles on a Saturday. Concerned about this, and without any prompting on my part, the owner came out right after his Church services. While his wife and children stood by in their Sunday best, he, in his suit, climbed up on my roof, and verified that the job was secured in case of rain. The next day (Monday) the shingles showed up, the crew came and finished up the job. In the past decade I have not had any issues with my roof. And as testament to the excellent cleaning of the job site; I have found only two roofing nails in the past 10 years.

I was extremely happy with the job they did. I thought there might be a matching issue between the Cedarmill and masonite on the back side but to an untrained eye it looks like an exact match. The crew arrived on time, worked well together and we had absolutely no communication issues. They demonstrated professionalism throughout the job and I highly recommend them.

The estimator arrived within the one-hour window that was promised. He was very professional and friendly. We told him we had noticed a water stain in our bedroom ceiling and he asked to see it before going up on the roof. After inspecting the roof he discussed with us the nature of the repair work needed. He assured us the repairs needed were minor and indicated that he felt the overall quality of the roof was good, with at least another 5-8 years of shingle life remaining. After providing us with a quote he said we could call the office to schedule the work or, since the repairs were not extensive, we could opt to have the work done right then. With more rain forecast for later in the week we opted for the immediate repair option. All work was completed and as far as we can tell our leaks have been fixed.

Mr. McCleaf was very friendly, courteous and professional from the moment he stepped out of his truck. He inspected the roof from the inside attic and invited me to take a look as well. He explained in detail what he saw and in such a way that I could easily understand. We then went outside and he took pictures and came down to show them to me. He also mentioned the condition of the overall roofing structure which was very comforting to know that it is well intact and of good construction. He checked the gutters, which were clear, and it was determined that the water damage was caused by an accumulation of snow/ice from the last season. Because the townhouse has no overhang and the roof is flush with the siding, the ice was being forced into the venting space. The recommendation was to keep the gutter area free of snow and ice during the winter season. I really appreciated the time he took and was happy to hear there was no repair needed. It was an outstanding experience in all phases. The estimator, Doug McLeaf, arrived when promised, and was thorough, informative, accomodating, friendly, and professional. He quickly provided a clear, detailed estimate. Annette Dunbar in the office quickly provided proof of business license and liability and worker's comp insurance. She immediately contacted me when rain forced two postponments, quickly got answers to my questions, and was great to work with. Lin and his roofing crew crew arrived on time, got right to work, answered my questions, were friendly, professional, very helpful with some related work I needed done, and did a superb clean-up job. Kenney and his guttering coworker arrived on time to install the gutter guards, were as professional, friendly, and accomodating as the others, and were very helpful with some problems they found with my gutters. I've recommended Marshall to others and will call them for any future needs. Their price was fair and no one could be better to work with.

I selected this company based on the reviews found on Angies List. I found it to be very professional compared to other companies I have used over the years. Obviously, its good reputation puts it in very high demand after such damaging storms as those we had in the summer -- meaning longer than usual waits for service. I had to wait a couple of weeks for an estimate and then about a month longer for repairs. Since my roof was not leaking I did not press for work to be scheduled sooner. Through it all I found Marshall's service to be way above par and I expect the quality to their work to match this. I will continue to turn to Marshall's when I need to and recommend them to others.

I thought the expeirence went well. The salesman came as expected and answered my questions. The work was scheduled and the foreman came and measured my windows. Within the time estimate he had given me, installation was scheduled. The same person who had measured was there to install the windows with two others. They arrived early the day of the work. The windows were on two different floors of my house and in five different rooms. They finished in a day and did a very good job cleaning up.

They were fantastic. I thought they did a really nice job. They recommended good quality windows. They installed them, including a bay window we had requested, which we thought was a little more complicated. All in all, I thought they did a great job. We are really happy with them.

On Sept. 7, 2010, Norval Wright from Marshall came to my home to gather information for a proposal for a new roof and new siding for a rear addition. He was prompt, thorough and courteous. He told me he would provide a proposal by email within a week. After a week's time and no email, I tried calling his cell phone. I left a message since he didn't pick up. When I did not receive a return call, I phoned the Marshall office and was told Mr. Wright was working in the field and to try his cell phone. I did, with the same result as the first time. I never heard from him again. Very unprofessional.

I did not find them to be friendly at all. They were not responsive at all. It was hard to set up an appointment with them. They finally did work with me on the third phone call. I decided to work with someone else.

We did take a while to decide on when to do the project. We wanted my father in law to take a look and then I lost my job. So 2 months went by between the estimate and the job. That was, as I said, mostly our fault. We called Marshall to schedule the job at the very end of July or August 1. They took more than a week to call back and then didn't have an opening until the 13th. That's the only reason I gave a B for responsiveness - the delay in calling back. Minor detail when all is said and done. I also suppose I wish the shingles matched a little bit better, but we knew that was a risk. They were also very patient about payment and never bugged us even though it took us more than 1 month to pay. The man who did the job was very courteous and professional too. I would recommend!

As stated on Angie's list, the was no hard sales push when they came and gave us an estimate. They were friendly, professional and on time. He left me with an estimate and just said call if you would like us to do the work. We called they said the gutters would be installed on the 17th of Sept but they must of come on the 16th because as we left for work on the 17 the gutters were installed. They was no mess left behind and they look great. We will defiantly use them again.

No service has been performed.. getting an appointment for an estimate was a hassle, when they finally came, they came with a short ladder, promised to come back with a taller one, showed up without a prior notice the following week, same excuse: the ladder is still short. called to follow up on the status, they promised to call back with an answer.. never heard back.. I will never recommend this unprofessional company and this lousy customer service to anyone.

They came out a month ago and said they would follow up. I have communicated with him via email and have gone a bit back and forth regarding the type of siding, etc. He said was working on it but I still haven't recieved the estimate and my last inquiry with him was 2 wks ago. I think that was long enough. I'm moving on.
