Independence Landscape

Curt was extraordinarily nice and responsive. From the moment he came out to assess the situation until the work was complete, he was a dream to work with. We discussed our very wet, swampy back/side yard where it wasn't draining. He proposed a french drain system that would connect to our current one and running it to the street where it could drain properly. He connected it to our gutters and drilled the sidewalk to make sure it went into the street. We discussed the other proposals we got that included an outdoor sump pump, which Curt said we didn't need because we had just enough of a slope. I really appreciated his honesty. We had the work done last March and it's been great ever since. They came and got the work done in 2 days and even reseeded where they dug the trench. Since they completed the work, we've waited to write a review to see how the system worked. We've been through some really intense rains and it's been so nice. While it does pool a little when it really rains, it dries out so really well. Before, it would be consistently wet with no hope of drying out. Now, the area gets dry within a day of the rain. I would very much recommend Curt and his company. In fact, I gave his information to all my neighbors and will continue to use him in the future for all landscape related issues.

They were extremely responsive. They were very polite. They were on time. When they were done, they cleaned up the yard beautifully. I have no complaints.

I thought the price was fair. They just come and show up, it’s not like you have to be home, they are out in the yard. I think 2 people was here. For the aeration, it took about a half an hour to 45 minutes. Area is left, where you can’t even tell they were here.

They are responsive to questions, on time, and do a great job. We paid around $300 for the entire year including aeration and overseeding.

Easily one my favorite companies to work with. From landscaping to lawn maintenance, they do it all. You can't go wrong with them.

I broke my arm and requested they wait until I called to schedule once I was able to water the lawn for the new seed. They showed up unscheduled anyway and did not even call to say they were coming. They did not have the proper equipment to do my small back yard and had to return another day. I had talked to their lawn specialist prior and requested he come out for a consultation as I had more things in the yard I wanted to maybe do. He said he would but I never heard from him again. I would definitely not use this business again nor would I recommend them.

They were professional and easy to work with throughout the whole process. Their crew showed up on time and was friendly and communicative when we had questions. They worked quickly and efficiently, but clearly with a great attention to detail. They weren't rushing things, but they weren't wasting time either. There was a slight delay of about a day in the work when they found that some of the pavers they were using didn't quite match the other pavers they had already put down. They communicated this to us clearly, and they even had a representative of the paver company come out to look and take pictures so they could be sure they got pavers to match. I spoke with the paver company rep at the time and he said he works with Independence a lot, and had nothing but good things to say about them. The patio was finished quickly, but it seems quite well. It is beautiful and sturdy. We've already had a few parties on it and everyone seemed very impressed with it. They even planted grass seeds in the re-graded dirt around the patio and put mulch down in another area next to the patio, which was definitely appreciated. I would absolutely work with independence again. We love our patio and felt like our project was handled well by the company, from start to finish.

Within 24 hours of purchasing the ticket I received a call to set up an appointment to look at my lawn. I discussed with Independence what I was looking for. Some recommendations were made that were very good and we agreed to the work. Within 72 hours the Independence team showed up at my townhouse an hour early and immediately began work. Almost 3 hours later the three man crew was done. The cleaned up the mess and left the front of my house looking awesome and even cleaner than when they started. Two hours later the manager arrived to inspect his people's work and ensure that I was pleased with the service. I was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All went well. Hired them on to mow and trim on a regular basis.

Great design, hard workers installing in high heat (summer 2016). I wanted to reduce cods a bit b ut they refused to break out the component costs for me, which was very frustrating. They are expensive b ut do good work.

The team was outstanding. From the estimate to the crew that came out, soon after the estimate, and performed the work, they were wonderful. This job was more extensive than we had first thought, with over 130 feet of drain required to get the water from all along the side of our house and drain it properly to gutter. They came out the day after and installed sod that matches our lawn. A week later we had torrential rains that created ponding in most of our neighbors' yards. We had nothing...and we have not had any issues to this day (almost three months later). Now we are having them work with us to fix up the backyard.

Mark was super responsive and helpful. I needed the work done rather quickly, and he worked to fit me on the schedule. The price was reasonable, and the work was quality. I will hire again, for sure.

We got two quotes from two Angie's List providers and while not the cheaper of the two, Independence could do all the work we wanted done, plus patch up a hole in our front stoop where a critter had dug a home. (I might add that the project was intended to add value/curb appeal as we get the house ready to sell.) While our initial quote was in October, the work got delayed because of our questions, the weather, other projects booked before ours, and the holidays, which pushed project to right around New Years. Mark Haller was our project coordinator and he was very knowledgeable and responsive for the most part. He provided us a book of paver samples for the patio and made suggestions based on popular styles (since we were mostly clueless). His estimate was incredibly detailed which helped us feel confident on what we were getting and paying for. Mark came out around December 10 to spray the weeds in our yard to ensure whatever was there would be good and dead, and they called Miss Utility to ensure the backyard was sprayed for any critical infrastructure. They ultimately started the project on/around December 21 with the backyard fence. The crews were very clean and attentive and do not appear to have disturbed our neighbors much. When they left at night before the fence was complete, they carefully blocked off our backyard with planks just enough to make the space uninviting to a passer-by (I wasn't expecting them to block it off at all, so this was a plus!). We then got a lot of rain (not the company's fault!) which delayed the continuation of our project. We had asked to have underground trenches dug for an drainage system from our downspouts. Initially the plan was to have a pop-up emitter outside the boundary of our fence to get water away from the house; but after the project started, someone must have reported us to the HOA and we had to change the plans. The company was very accommodating of our HOA and undid the work they had already completed to bring the end of the pipes and emitter to just inside our fence line. In the end, our fence looks amazing, sturdy, and new, and our patio is gorgeous. We never realized the untapped potential our backyard had, but have already enjoyed a nice meal out there, and look forward to cooking out once the weather settles down. Also hoping it will add value for a family with a small child, a single who likes to entertain, or even someone with a small dog. We were most nervous about installing sod in the winter, let alone around New Years. Our neighbors thought we were crazy (and I had my doubts when we received 30 inches of snow after the sod was down). But Mark assured us that they've installed sod during the winter in other landscaping projects only to have the grass take root and take off better than sod installed "in season." We trusted him on this. The logic, I guess, is something like this: the grass is dormant in winter anyway, so once it's placed it can take root as the ground warms up and take advantage of spring rains. In fact, as it has warmed up, we have only had to turn on the sprinklers a few times since we?ve had such a wet spring (so far). We also sprung for the lawn maintenance plan, since neither of us are knowledgeable on much more than mowing. The plan we signed up for includes regular treatments for weeds and the like, as well as an aerating and re-seeding down the road. Just this past weekend when it was nice (we're now in April), Hubby was outside mowing and received compliments from three separate neighbors on just how great our grass looks. So the grass has been down for less than 4 months, placed during the winter when you're "not supposed to do that," and we're getting praise from the neighbors. SCORE!

First and foremost, Mark is extremely responsive, which is a trait I highly value. He seems very knowledgeable and has been great at communicating where we are in the process. The work his team has done so far has been great. Because the current project is going so well we are considering using Independence Landscape for our regular lawn maintenance.

Chad is extremely professional and knows his business. We gave him the job after a disappointing experience with another landscaping company and we are glad we did. The crew was pleasant and hard working, and the results are great. Impressive attention to detail, and they made sure the job was done right. I cannot think of one negative thing about doing business with Independence Landscaping. Will definitely call again for the next project.

Backyard looks great. Chad was very thorough in his review of the yard. Explained what needed to be done and why it needed to be done to complete the job properly. The crew was very professional and cleaned up after the job was complete. Great company and I highly recommend them and would use them again.

I wasn't totally convinced they did everything I asked them to do. What they did was good. They were very responsive. I think I will use them again. I will get more comparison before I make that decision. It was clean. I wasn't there when most of the work was done because I work during the day. I really like them to check in with me to look at the work beforehand but that was difficult because I wasn't able to be there. I would like a follow-up to make sure that I was satisfied with everything. I had higher expectations of the work.I had more expectations of work done would actually happen.

Everything went great. I called to get an estimate and Tony arrived as scheduled. I had a drainage problem around the house near the crawl space entrance and because of the crawl space we couldn't just add soil to increase the slope. Tony came up with a solution and I hired them to execute. They had an opening in their schedule so offered to come about a week earlier than I expected, which was great with me. They were very respectful, knew exactly what to do and Tony was there at the beginning, middle and end. After the work was completed I noticed a couple things I would have liked handled a bit differently, and felt it was my fault for not noticing sooner and for ok'ing the work. Nonetheless, Tony said they had leftover river rock so offered to have the guys come back to add more river rock and address the issue for no extra charge. Amazing! I had Tony provide estimates for a couple other jobs that I have decided not to hire anyone to do. if I do hire someone in the future, I will be giving Independence Landscape a call again!

The crew arrived on time each of the two days. They were courteous and professional and very careful during all of the work. They had to remove a considerable amount of old mulch that was very unsightly and would have been difficult and ugly to just add another layer of new on top of old. We have many, many bushes that were all carefully trimmed. At the end of each day, the cleanup was excellent. They dug trenches for the pavers and put something like concrete at the bottom of the trenches to hold everything in. They put in several pencil hedge plants and had to hand dig each of the holes because of the peculiar property layout with the utility easements. They also cleaned the eaves. We also had large stone paver walkways, they repaired the "fill" between the pavers. During the two work days, Chad dropped by a few times to check on progress and stopped by to meet with us after everything was done to see if we were happy. And we were. We will use them again!!

I have since moved from the state of Virginia so do not have specific names to share, though I wish I could recall. The representative that came out to talk with me about our projects was very attentive to what my husband and I had in mind. He took notes and measurements as well as a rough draft of what we were envisioning. Soon after, we had a well put-together proposal emailed to us outlining our projects which included various options for different trees that were suggested for our HOA and region. Although it ended up being a fairly expensive endeavor, my husband and I were THRILLED with the outcome. Weather delayed the start of construction on our patio, but Independence was prompt about doing the landscaping projects on two sides of our home which turned out lovely (crepe myrtle, hostas, hydrangeas in one bed and japanese maple and daffodils in another). Once construction began on our patio, the gentlemen working on it were respectful of us and our neighbors and kept the area as clean as possible each day before leaving. Once done, we had a paver patio with sitting bench that ran the entire length of the lanai on the back side of our house, which then flowed in to a circular landing off of the lanai's stairs. We can't take all of the credit- we verbalized the design we wanted, but Independence Landscape actioned it. We greatly miss this beautiful outdoor space.

The team at Independence is very professional, and the work is quality. I've contracted them through the year to take care of the front and back of my townhouse, because I just don't have the time (or patience) to tend to it, especially in the warmer months where the grass grows very quickly. I'm on a program where they come every couple weeks to trim and edge the lawn, and once per year I'll have them re-mulch and cleanup the front of the house. The mulching costs around $200- $250 dollars or so, and the maintenance program depends on what services you choose. I have always been very satisfied - would recommend.

Had quality issues. Small areas on lawn poorly cut. Cutting short of border areas with neighbors. Edging and trimming incomplete. We did not renew contract with this provider.

I was referred to this provider many years ago by a realtor savvy enough to know that improved landscaping would help sell a house. I have never been more impressed by any company. These guys know what they're doing, hire hard working employees, and are incredibly responsive to customer requests. The owners are guys with real integrity and the office is managed both efficiently and pleasantly. If you use their lawn services you will have a lush, green lawn even if you start with a weedy, browned - out mess. My most recent house required a new drainage system for the backyard and they did the work expeditiously at a fair price. I purposely kept the new landscaping in the front yard fairly modest to control costs, but I immediately received compliments from neighbors. Their price for initial landscaping and major projects compared favorably with other estimates. I could probably get my lawn mowed at a lower cost, but I wouldn't have the beautiful green lawn I want to maintain. I also value the fact that this provider is absolutely reliable. I can recommend this provider to other homeowners with absolutely no reservations.

We are VERY happy with Independence and would highly recommend them to anyone. We started this project with a vague idea that we wanted to change the backyard from an overgrown "English Garden" (previous owners) into an area that the kids could use. Mark Haller from Independence was the first one to respond. He had a lot of great ideas and helped us crystallize what we wanted to do. We compared Independent's quote with several other contractors and Independence was competitive. But Mark's responsiveness sealed the deal. Mark was very patient in answering our questions and adjusting the plan to meet our needs. For example, the play area was sized for a generic play set. Once we found a play set that we wanted to install, Mark was able to change the layout of the play area to accommodate it. Independence does not do large tree removal but Mark recommended a tree service that performed very well. Once the work started, the workers were punctual, worked hard, and cleaned up after themselves. We were very happy with the results. I've heard a lot of horror stories about sod, but this is some of the best sod I've seen - it has grown in lush and perfect. Mark has returned several times to check on us afterwards and quickly made a minor grade change to accommodate water that was pooling on one side of the play area. Overall we are very happy with the results and with Independence's service. Highly recommend them!

Overall excellent service. We've used them in the past and they came out to provide some landscaping boulders. They noted that the downspouts were clogged and came back to basically redo a clogged drainage system improperly put in by the builder. Kept in touch on the timing, did a fantastic job, witnessed by the remnants of tropical storm Bob or Bill that dumped 2 inches of rain in 3 hours and not a drop in the basement. Just a pleasure to work with. Not always the least expensive, but always a tremendous value.
