They were fine. I need not be at home. They just leave a note when the work is done.

They were very professional. We just weren't going to spend that much money. It was way over what we budgeted.

We were 100% satisfied with the work quality, service and crew professionalism. Our team lead, Mark Haller, was with us every step of the process. In preparing for our extensive updating of our property exterior, we consulted four Angie's approved vendors for estimates, design ideas, and schedule, and Independence came out best in all categories. They also offered a 10% discount for being Angie's List members. Once contacted, Mark came out to visit our property, and discuss our desires. He then prepared detailed proposals with color pictures of choices for materials grass and yard plants. We discussed details and suggested revisions, all of which were accommodated. The final proposal was issued, and down payment (1/3rd) accepted. The initial work contract signed in the late fall, and work began almost immediately. The team provided was always between 3 and 5 core workers, who were respectful, kept the work areas neat, and stayed each day for over eight hours. In addition, there were landscape specialists, wall/patio stone specialists, sodders, and plant crews that came in to contribute in their respective areas - each of whom showed great care and obvious experience in their work. Unsurprisingly, as Fall moved into Winter, there were substantial weather challenges (heavy rain, snow, high winds) which might have caused significant delays in a less dedicated crew, but other than external material limitations, such as the availability of sod in a snowstorm, the crew worked aggressively to complete our work. We were so satisfied with the initial work, that we asked for a second phase involving treatment of our deck and the addition of a trellis border underneath, plus some annual potted plants for our new porch. Once again, all work was accomplished in a professional and timely manner. In summary, I give my highest, wholehearted recommendation to this company, its employees and its work philosophy.

They are doing great. Our lawn had been suffering for years, and it's looking much better now. They show up when you need them and are easy to get in touch with. We have not had any problems with them so far. Mark is very responsive.

They did an amazing job cleaning out our yard and mulching. It looks beautiful. Our lawn also looks the best it has looked in awhile. It's a little expensive, but worth the price.

What they did was they used the sod and they did a beautiful job. It was like a miracle overnight because it was a red mud puddle until they came. That's what we contracted with them initially. Now we have contracted them to do complete lawn care that just started recently. So far we've been very pleased with that. They did a wonderful job and I will give them A's across the board. We think their price was fair as far as the yard maintenance. We had been using someone local and their price was the same thing.

Just like the first time, extremely well. Always kept in touch on scheduling due to the late winter storms and freezes. Absolutely beautiful work and worked with us/kept us informed of any suggested changes. Yard is absolutely beautiful. More importantly, ongoing pride by the team in the work they do. Just a pleasure to work with. A few of the plants from last year's landscaping did not make it, replaced absolutely no questions. Highly recommend.

I contacted Mark in June 2013, and he came out for promptly for our scheduled appointment.. I purchased my first townhome, after living in houses my entire life, and wanted a low maintenance backyard (no grass). After, I explained to Mark what I invisioned, he returned with his plans, books on brick/pavers and an estimate. I paid the deposit and we scheduled an appointment for September-2013. I have to say that I was a little "a lot" nervous giving someone a $2,000 deposit months ahead of the project completion. But Mark, ever the professional, took my calls and reassured me. He NEVER once seemed put off by my questions and follow-up calls. His crew came out to my home as scheduled, I believe there were 4 men, who worked in the hot, hot sun! Mark also came out every evening to provide me with an update, and to check on his workmen. After the September rains set us back a day or two, the project was complete. WOW...is it beautiful! I love the pavers I choose (went with something a little more expensive); had them upgrade the boards around the fence line; and found out that I had termites on one fence line. Mark offered to replace the fence, for an additional charge. I agreed, and fence project was completed at the same time as my backyard landscape. Although, it's been months since my project was complete, I have to say that I am just as happy today as I was the week that Indpendence completed this project. Thank you Mark and crew, for making my backyard look beautiful!!! I am 110%+ satisfied.

We still use Independence Landscape today for all our lawn service needs. I needed my lawn replaced with sod - the entire front lawn. The owner of Independence, Chad, came out a number of times to talk me through the process as well as determine what lawn care plan was best for me. Prior to removing the old lawn, Independence came out and sprayed the ground to get rid of the old lawn - ever mindful of our children and pets. Independence also paid a second visit prior to sod installation because they believed the lawn needed an extra spray to ensure that the sod was unmolested upon installation. Removed the old lawn one day, replaced it with the new one the next. Smooth as can be. Chad was patient, knowledgeable and in no hurry to make a sale. That's what sold me on his company. The big time lawn care firms are impersonal and cold. Independence is the complete opposite - they'll talk to you, laugh with you, and take the time necessary to ensure that you are comfortable with what you are getting. When I think of the hallmarks of what makes a small business successful, I need look no future than Independence Landscape - this is evident from the fact that we still do business today.

We are going to have them do the same again this year.

They're extremely pleasant to work with. We've never had any problems with them. They have significantly improved the look of our lawn. Their prices are fine and I like the fact that they're a smaller company.

Used Angie's list to locate vendors to landscape around new addition. We got several estimates but no one stood out like Chad with Independence. He was professional and seemed to know exactly what we wanted. We explained our drainage issue as well as what we wanted and he gave us suggestions as well. Within a few days as promised, we had an estimate including pictures of the plants that were to be installed. In about two weeks, Chad showed up with his crew on time as promised and got to work. Robert too was great. He went above and beyond our expectations! Our back yard is great, the sod is beautiful and we are looking forward to spending time outside in the spring.

I had initially obtained an estimate for some yard clean up work, but then decided I wanted to improve the landscape, so contacted Chad Evans who did a landscape design for me. The fee for a landscape design was $75, and I made clear that I could not spend more than $2,000. When Chad returned with the landscape design several weeks later, the cost for the work associated with the landscape design he had prepared for me was $3,000. Since this was over my $2,000 budget by $1,000 I had no choice by to revert back to the basic yard clean up work. My total bill was $670, which was $595 for the cleanup, pruning, edging, mulcing and $75 for the landscape design fee. It looked nice (but plain) when finished. The ornamental grass, which was at it's peak, was mistakenly cut back to the ground. They tried to tell me this was the time of year for "winterizing" it, but I knew this was not true. I even phoned a couple of nurseries in the area, as well as one arboretum, and asked if this was the time of year to cut an ornamental grass back, and each of them gave me a resounding "NO." Anyway, they do fine work and are well priced, and also give a discount if your live in Kingstowne. There were hard feelings because of the grass, and Chad said they have thousands of customers so were willing to walk off the job before completing it when I complained about having the grass cut. I'll use a different company next time. But they do fine work and are reasonably priced. I'm rating them C because I specifically asked and paid for a landscape design plan not to exceed $2,000, yet was given one that would have cost $3,000 to implement.

This was one of the best contracting experiences we've had in 40 years of home owning. Mark Haller was very professional, he isn't pushing us and he is very prompt. He is very cooperative and very helpful in making decisions about solutions for our problems and suggestions for the design. There were two helpers and three sometimes. They were wonderful, they came early everyday, and they did wonderful clean up whenever they left. They were very pleasant to work with and the whole experience was really wonderful. Their price was very fair.

The woman answering the phones was so cheerful and polite. I received the estimate via email very quickly and the quality of the work was great! Definitely will use them again.

After recently purchasing our home, it was evident that we needed to do some landscaping and general clean up. I had several landscapers out to give assessments and estimates. Independence was by far the most professional and organized of the companies that I had come out. After visiting us, Chad had one of his associates put together a design plan. Several weeks later, Chad returned with the design plan and to discuss it with us. The design included a complete remodel of our front flower and shrub beds, extension of new beds out into our yard, removal of a small tree, sodding of several areas in our front yard, a general clean up and mulching of our forested and somewhat wild back yard, and a remodel of the flower and shrub beds bordering our back patio. It really was quite a bit of work that took the crew of 3 men 3 entire days to complete. The process from initial visit to design plan to actual performance of the yard work was about 5-6 weeks, but the entire process was very easy and organized. We were very pleased with the landscaping that Independence performed for us and I will definitely use them again in the future. I am writing this review in October, several months after the landscaping, and I can also attest to the fact that the landscaping is holding up very well. Everything continues to look really great and our house looks so much better. After the initial watering schedule of the sod and plants, the landscaping has required minimal maintenance on my part (which is exactly what I wanted). If you really want to have some high quality landscaping done to your property, a company like Independence is really the only way to go. I had several other companies out that would have been cheaper, but those same companies really didn't seem to know what they were doing - really, what they proposed to do would not have held a candle to what Independence did for us. If you decide to hire Independence, I am confident that you will be satisfied with their landscaping. You may pay more than you would if you hired some cut rate landscapers, but it will pay off in the long run in my opinion.

Provided estimate of service within 2 days of first call. Estimate was complete and understandable. Provider promptly revisited property to re-estimate service after follow up call. After sending in contract, it did take 2 weeks until the project was started. I had to contact provider to get the start date. The project was started on the date mentioned. The work was completed in one day. Save for one small item, the work was completed to my complete satisfaction. Both the front, side, and rear areas looked excellent after the work was done. I did ask them back to cut back one of the trees in the front yard a little more. They promptly did this work and did not charge me any extra. I would recommend Independence Landscaping highly for the quality of their work.

They did a good job and will use them again this fall.

Provider performed mite/insect control application per the program. He inspected the dogwood and applied a treatment a fungicide at no charge. A company representative called me the next day to tell me about the condition of the dogwood and the treatment.

Provider was helpful and knowledgable, but the cost to send a crew out to do the work was more than the small job was worth.

The crew is quick, professional and thorough. They are helping us whip our lawn into shape.
