I scheduled with Foley Mechanical to work on hooking up our radiators. The lady who answered the phone assured me that they could handle our project (hooking up 5 radiators) and gave us an appointment 3 weeks out. Yesterday, Brian showed up and told us that he could not hook up any of our radiators and left. Foley Mechanical may do some things well, but cannot handle radiators at all and they may waste your time (in our case 3 weeks).

Their level of service and experience keeps me going back.

I was super excited to find Foley, as I have had some less than stellar quality work done previously. I met with the estimator to run through scope (new addition, HVAC system addition, modification of existing) and they were very knowledgeable and helpful. After the meeting I forwarded the architect's plans and was expecting an estimate within 2 weeks. 2 months later and 7 or 8 additional follow-up phone calls and I can't even get anyone to return a phone call. If you are too busy, tell me - don't just ignore me.

I have actually had them for, probably, the last 10 years. They did the initial install at my house and they come whenever I have problems. He has now replaced two of the original heat pumps that were installed. They have been prompt, on time, correct and they did not have to come back. I would give them an A on price but other folks would probably consider them a little pricey. They get right back when you call and they are very prompt.

We have an old natural gas heating boiler, installed in 1985. While we've had the burner tubes cleaned before and had various other maintenance done, we had never had the heat exchanger cleaned, which involves disconnecting the flueway and carefully brushing the plates/fins that make up the heat exchanger. Mark showed up exactly on time and did an outstanding, thorough job. (While the heat exchanger wasn't in terrible condition, it needed to be cleaned.) Mark was very professional, and everything was vacuumed up before he left. When we decide at some point to replace this boiler, we will definitely consider having Foley do that work.

Everything went well. The crew (about 5-6) was efficient, completed the work in one day, and cleaned up nicely when the job was finished. Everyone was pleasant and very professional. The work was completed at my parents' house, which is a different address than the one listed.

Mark from Foley came out initially to replace an old mercury-switch thermostat with a digital one, and that went fine. But the boiler started acting up around the same time. Specifically, it wouldn't always come on when the thermostat called for heat. It would begin the startup sequence, but then give up and fall silent after a few seconds. By cycling the boiler and the thermostat I could get it to come on, but clearly something wasn't right. Mark came back out and found that the flame sensor was dirty. This was causing the pilot to fail to light (or not be detected), and thus the boiler was blocked from starting. He fixed that, and also replaced the automatic damper motor, which he observed acting up. Foley has done a couple of small (sub-$1000) jobs at our house before, and always done a terrific job. On this job there was a problem with the price I was charged for the damper motor. I looked up the retail price, and called Dan Foley to discuss. The conversation did not go particularly well. But to Dan's credit, when we spoke a second time, he finally had a good explanation for why the part was so incredibly expensive, and the matter was resolved to everyone's satisfaction.

We moved in two years ago and the steam radiator system never worked properly, it was noisy and two of the radiators never warmed up. The company that had installed it in 2005 and that we had servicing it did not inspire confidence which made me look for a company that knows about steam systems. I'm so happy that we found Foley Mechanical because the expertise that Dan Foley and his team bring to the job was priceless. They diagnosed to problem and wrote a detailed proposal with recommendations and line item pricing. The needed repairs were much more substantial than what I had hoped for because the boiler had been installed wrong; basically all near-boiler piping needed to be replaced. It did take a bit long to get a hold of them at first, but once we agreed on the work to be done and had a date on the calendar everything went smooth. The workmen were very professional and well organized. The main part of the work was done in a day, with another half day of cleaning and flushing the boiler and pipes. They made sure we never were a night without heat by staying a bit longer on the first day. We have a comfortable balanced steam system now that is virtually quiet. To illustrate, before the repair our basement could be 78 degree, the 1st floor 70, and the 2nd floor 63. Now the whole house is the same temperature. The work they delivered was just excellent.

FMI has been maintaining my heating and air conditioning system since 2000. Never a problem or complaint. The people show up on time, do the work and it is right when they leave.

A gasket on my steam boiler broke on a Saturday morning and flooded half of my basement before I noticed the problem. I was able to stop the flood, but couldn't call for help until the afternoon - after Saturday business hours of a 3 day weekend. I remembered when I replaced the boiler 6 years ago and got quotes from 3 companies that Foley Mechanical was by far the most knowledgeable about steam boilers (but I couldn't afford them at the time) so I called them and left a message. The owner, Dan Foley, called me back a few minutes later and asked me to send him some photographs of my boiler to see if they could help me. He called again after he saw my photos and said they could come out the next day -Sunday - at a higher rate or wait until Monday, Veteran's Day. I waited until Monday and he sent out two knowledgeable workers who were here for a couple of hours. They said they needed to order two replacement parts and couldn't turn my heat back on until the low water cut-off valve was repaired. Fortunately, the owner dropped by and said he would look around locally for the part. He found it so they came back to replace it later that afternoon and to turn my heat back on. My boiler is now working better than ever! They also noticed and figured out an electrical problem I was having at the time and saved me from having an electrician come out the next day to fix a problem the power company needed to address. I have had a harder time each year finding someone to conduct my annual maintenance inspection on my steam boiler and I could tell the last few years that the companies I had hired didn't know what they were doing. Foley Mechanical is a superior firm with a very talented crew.

The guys were here punctually at 730am. They were courteous and bled three of the baseborad heaters to get the air out of the system. They answered all questions and made a couple of recommendations to help the system operate more efficient. Mark and Matt were very knowledgable. Very satisfied

After diagnosing the problem with an existing boiler which was estimated to be over 30 years old, the company recommended replacement. They installed a new Burnham gas boiler and a sensor to monitor outdoor temperature to make the boiler more efficient. This installation took a full day by a crew of two and included installation of a new programmable thermostat. This portion of the work was around $6,000, which seemed in line with another estimate I received and anecdotal information. The remaining $1,400 of the job involved installation of a new radiator in the basement. This was a half day job and was done two months later because the size radiator I wanted had to be back-ordered. The crews were very punctual, asked good questions to make sure things were done as I wanted, and the work seems to be very high quality. The owner, Dan Foley, actually came by at the end of the boiler installation to inspect his crew's work. Throughout the process, he was very accessible to answer questions and discuss options.

Outstanding project from start to finish. Dan Foley has assembled an excellent crew. They were professional and courteous throughout the job even though they had to deal with a homeowner constantly looking over their shoulder and asking questions for the duration of the job. They quickly removed the existing boiler and set up a temporary gas line to the hot water heater so we'd have hot water until the new boiler was installed. They stayed on top of the dirt and debris as they went about their business and asked permission each time they had to cut into the drywall. They were almost apologetic about having to do so, but to run the vent and drain lines, there was no way around it. It is obvious the crew takes pride in their work. There's a lot of work involved with the installation of this type of boiler and the location for every pipe and electrical cable was carefully thought out before being put in place. The crew even used spirit levels to make sure every pipe and wire was perfectly vertical or horizontal. Not doing so obviously wouldn't impact performance, but just goes to show their attention to detail. It sounds ridiculous, but the boiler is always part of any tour I give of the home. Dan's communications before, during and after the project were exceptional. His crew leader for my project, Slavko, was thorough and he walked me through the system to make sure I understood how it worked. It's almost two years later and I am as pleased as the day it was installed. I've only had one issue with it since the install and it was related to a ground wire that had worked loose. The technician quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it without charge. While he was here, he provided a courtesy inspection and cleaning. Again, an outstanding company to deal with.

Perfect. They showed up on time (7:30 am which was great as I wasn't very late to work), diagnosed and fixed in 40 minutes at a very reasonable cost. Professional, punctual, precise. My kind of contractor.

Absolutely, hands down best HVAC people I have ever dealt with. They are honest. They are reliable. They do the job and they get it done right. They are faithful to their customers. They are very knowledgeable.

We have an annual contract with them. We only had to pay the cost of the filter. They are very professional and very, very knowledgeable. I would consider them experts even on non-heating and air conditioning things. I have asked them questions and they have pointed me in the right direction or given me good advice. They are very friendly and very punctual. They are good people. The previous owner of our house also used them.

Superior contractor. Very responsive from initial contact through bid through final check-out. Somewhat more expensive than other bids, but I chose Foley based on several neighbors' recommendations, Angie's List and great communications from Dan Foley while I deliberated. Team varied in size over four-day schedule, but all were extremely punctual and polite. They worked very hard throughout each day, including dismantling the old boiler in order to get it out of the basement. Great clean-up after the job was done. When there was trouble with the control panel, the technician visited twice on one day to ensure it worked, and Dan called several times to verify.

I first met the owner, Dan Foley in 1993, when he was manager of a branch of a large heating and air conditioning contractor in Northern Virginia. At that time, Dan oversaw the installations of both a new central a/c unit and a new boiler in a home I recently purchased. I was sorry to see him leave that company a few years later, but I stayed with his previous company because I was not sure where Dan had started his own business (he later told me he did not want to actively solicit customers from his previous employer). However, when I decided to upgrade to a new a/c unit, I tracked Dan down on the internet. I asked for estimates from Foley Mechanical and two other companies, and chose Foley because of their clear explanation of my options and my previous experience. I was not disappointed. The preparation and installation was flawless, the crew was one of the most punctual and professional I have dealt with, and the finished product was all I hoped for.

We consulted with Dan Foley, the owner of the company, who came to our home and advised us on various options available to replace an aging boiler and radiators damaged by water. A detailed estimate arrived within days of his visit and his crew started work on the requested date of installation. Due to the extent of re-construction to our house the installation had to be performed in stages but throughout the process we were impressed by the level of individual attention, flexibility and professionalism of the owner and his crew. The installation was flawless and the quality of the workmanship is exceptional.

We were given a written estimate ahead of time and then we signed the contract for them to do the work. They came within a week and they were done in five days. They did everything they promised and were very professional. We don't have a service contract with them yet but are considering it.

My boiler still works but my flue liner in the chimney (where the exhaust fumes go) is cracked, which means we are at risk for carbon monoxide poisoning. I told Bill, the technician, when he came out that I might just get the chimney relined and not look in to getting a new heating system that exhausts through a window instead of the chimney. He gave me a book to read on steam heat and told me about a website to look at. He looked around at the boiler and my radiators and said he would email me a quote. He was very informative and professional and his company came highly recommended from my regular heating and AC company. He emailed me an estimate when he said he would. We decided to reline the chimney for now so we can use it for fires and wait awhile on replacing the boiler since it it is still chugging away.
