Big Steve's Tree Care

He showed up late so I never had the opportunity to meet him and spend time discussing the project. We did not expect to have the stump sticking a foot out of the ground after he left. It was worse initially so we called and he did return (again while we were not home) and cut it down a bit. It's unfortunate he didn't coordinate his second visit with us. We would have paid a bit more to have the job done more properly (without grinding the stump).

Estimator gave a decent price. I needed the job done fairly quickly before other work and he scheduled it for the next weekday. I was not home when the service was provided,. but there was no damage to the deck, the firewood was in a pile with my other firewood, and there was no sign of brush, not even droppings where they carried it out. I had some questions about the work performed and they were answered to my satisfaction. I then mailed a check. No hassles about delaying the payment, very easy and professional to work with. I would use them again and recommend them to others.

This company requires you obtain and agree to a written estimate prior to scheduling a tree removal appointment, this means you need two appointments and they're a busy company so it will take some time to get a tree taken out. I can't say I disagree with their process, you know exactly what you're going to be charged before they show up for the work, and they do a good job so they are well worth the time it takes to get them scheduled. They showed up on time for both appointments and were professional throughout. Between my neighbors and I we've probably used five or six tree removal firms in the past few years and I am happy enough with this company that I'm calling them back for a second project.

I had a large Poplar tree in my back yard that grew over the house following the sun. After a recent storm I noticed the truck was severely cracked about 50 feet up. I called several companies and Big Steve gave me a quote almost half of other companies. They put me on the schedule and came out, took down the tree, and hauled away the wood. I wasnt even there and everything went very smooth. They invoiced me later that week and I paid by credit card. I will be using them again!

My wife and I could not be happier with the service we received from Big Steve and his crew who did an exceptional job. The crew was tremendously courteous, professional, and proficient in their work. The crew did an excellent job in tackling the large silver maple in the backyard. A few other services came to give us estimates, and a number of them suggested that the tree entirely come down because it was beyond salvageable. My wife and I would be heartbroken to lose a tree as old an beautiful as this one. Big Steve thought the tree could still be saved, and we remain cautiously optimistic that a few additional measures and treatments can be taken to reinvigorate its growth. Nonetheless, they removed the dead branches and cut down to the tree's healthy limbs. In addition to the tree services, they removed a dead bush, trimmed back the bushes from our house, and took away a pile of falen branches that had been collecting in the yard. We recommend Big Steve to you to all of our neighbors if they should need tree services in the future.

They were very courteous and cleaned up after themselves.

Big Steve removed the rest of a tree that was snapped in half in a storm. I had cut up all that fell myself which was 3/4 of the tree. I didn't have a big enough saw to finish the job, plus I needed all the brush removed, and the stump ground up. Everyone else provided ridiculous estimates. This price was fair, they did an excellent job and cleaned up everything very well. Will definitely use again for bigger jobs.

Big Steve was recommended by our landscaper as part of a larger project. Called Steve and got an estimate within 24 hours. Quote was competitive with others. Went with Steve based on the landscaper's recommendation. Very happy with the results. Crew showed up on time, was professional and got the job done in a day. Would highly recommend Steve to anyone.

Most of the trees were trimmed appropriately. For two Leyland cypresses, however, they went way overboard in trimming such that the trees are now extremely lopsided and look terrible. I was told by the workers that they would check in with me while they worked to make sure I approved, but they did not check in with me while trimming four out of the six trees--and the result is two very over-trimmed, ugly and possibly damaged trees. When I expressed my concerns to the owner, I found his response to be dismissive and unhelpful. I will not use their services again. Be warned if you use them: watch every cut like a hawk.

I've used Big Steve's Tree Care for a few years now and they've always been very responsive and professional. I'm always impressed. This week, they took out what is (hopefully) the last tree from the back yard. What made me choose them in the first place was the honest advice Steve gave me about a tree in my back yard (even though he could have just cut it and made more $). Again, this time - they impressed me with how much they care about the customers needs. They waited a week after my tree came down to grind the stump because the lawn was wet from rain. They didn't want the stump grinder to mess up my lawn. How awesome is that? Any other company might have just tried to close out the job, regardless of what it did to the grass. These guys are great.

The owner met with me on April 9th, and explained in detail what would be done and what the cost would be. A few days later two workers removed both trees and cleaned up the yard. The stump was ground down two days later and again, the yard was cleaned after the work was completed. The very low price reflects a 10% Angie's List discount.

I actually research stuff for our Home Owners Association. I recommended them based on my research on Angie's. I've been happy with their services. The service is great. They're always there on time and they plough right away and keep up with the snow. They're watching it and if the snow reaches their minimum criteria they're ploughing. They're very responsible. I actually received the original bid. So I acted on our board's behalf and then I acquired the bid for our property. They're very professional.

Had a great experience with Big Steve's Tree Care. They did exactly what they said they would, when they said they would, and the whole neighborhood came by to watch this monster tree come down. The quote came in higher than another provider but we trusted the reviews more and went with Big Steve's. He does not negotiate which at least, if that's what it is, I respect because the price really was pretty good and the work was outstanding, very polite guys. He was careful to not destroy our yard (as best as possible when you're removing something this enormous). He let us keep the mulch which was awesome. I do wish he could have used a log splitter and let us keep some of our wood, but I understand that hardly any providers do that. Wanted to add that I appreciate that he is honest - another provider came out and said we had 2 more enormous trees that needed removal and that definitely is not the case. When those 2 are ready to come down, we'll be using Big Steve's again. Thanks!

From the beginning, communication with the firm was excellent and personal. Mr. Kurtzhals answered e-mails quickly and made every effort to accommodate our schedule. He provided an estimate as scheduled and executed the contract quickly. A weather delay was handled well. His staff were professional, neat and courteous. I highly recommend this firm.

I joined Angie's List to find a good tree service after a bad experience with the last company we hired. Big Steve's Tree service did not disappoint. The tree removal was easy to schedule and was done at a very reasonable cost. Great experience!

Very professional service in tree removal; and they cleaned the area before they left. I was pleased with their service and would use them again.

I was very impressed with Big Steve's. Our very large, 50 year-old, 4-trunk ash tree was dying because of emerald ash-borers, so it needed to come down. The tree was very close to the front of the house, and towered over it. I got three prices, and Big Steve's was the lowest. (They also gave me an Angie's list discount.) I looked over the contract carefully to be sure that their low price didn't mean less service. Everything seemed OK so I gave them the go-ahead. They gave me a date of Sept 18 at 11:00, and by 10:15 the crew was on-site and working. They didn't need a crane, but came with an impressive array of equipment, including large truck, heavy-duty chipper and a nifty remote-controlled AWD stump grinding machine. The crew leader was friendly and easy to work with. I kept the wood to split and burn in my wood stove, and they piled the rounds where I asked them to. I had taken down a small tree in back of the house and they ground the stump at no additional charge. They cleaned the area up well, removed the brush, and caused no damage to the grounds or house. The tree yielded 3 cords of firewood, to give you an idea of its size. Big Steve's gave me a great price, and did a thorough and professional job. I will absolutely call them again next time I need tree work.

The team arrived prior to the appointment and had completed the work and left before I arrived home to discuss the job with the crew chief. What had been trimmed wasn't what I had anticipated with the estimate, so the crew returned within an hour and trimmed additional branches. They did so without complaint or push-back of any kind. The crew was thoroughly professional.

We did decide to go with another provider, however.

Delievered on time. Quick. Wood looks good and ready to burn. Very few odd pieces and very clean. An honest 1/2 cord! Will definitely use again.

Terrific price. They came, they took it down, they ground the stump, they cleaned up and they didn't over charge. What more can I say. They beat the other estimates by $1,000!

These guys blew the competition away as far as price goes. They did a great job promptly taking out a pretty large oak tree in my backyard. I'd recommend Steve's to anyone and everyone. We WILL be using them again for all of our tree needs.
