I called Big Steve for a price quote this morning, actually planning to buy from the garden center near me, but recognizing that it's good business to always get more than one price, since it had been a very long time since I bought wood. Well, Steve's price for my 1/3 cord was the equivalent of $450 per cord delivered and stacked, and the garden center's price was equivalent to $630 per cord delivered and stacked. I called Steve right back, and events unfolded very quickly after that. I got a call from one of his drivers 5 minutes later, and they came to my house to deliver only 20 minutes later! It was amazing! They were very professional and easy to work with, and I think they had all the wood unloaded and stacked in only 10 minutes! The team worked very hard and moved very quickly. Also, they actually gave me a bit more than 1/3 cord of wood. I'm an engineer so I had already measured the space and done the calculations. They gave me about 25 extra pieces of wood according to my calculations. So, I am totally delighted with the experience!!

They came to our home. We outlined the work and they gave us a price. They showed up on time and performed the work exactly as they said they would.

Steve responded to our call for an estimate within an hour because he was in the neighborhood. We went over the work to be done on both properties, and he prepared the estimates at that time. We had 3 estimates including Steve's, and we found his to be the best. We also found him to easy to work with, and he scheduled the work to begin within 2 weeks of the estimate. We found his crew to be very hardworking, and they completed most of the work in 1 day. Steve came back to grind the stumps and remove the stump mulch in between other jobs, completing our work over the next 2 days. We were very pleased with Steve and his crew. They were punctual, hardworking, and did an excellent job. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing to have tree work done.

I contacted Big Steve's tree service, and left a message for him to call back. He did several days later, and came out to take a look at the job. He left me an estimate of the work to be done. I obtained two other estimates, but his was the best. He gave me a date when he would be able to come out and do the work, which was about 2 weeks out. His crew came on the date and time set up, removed the trees, and cleaned the area after they were done. The tree cutters left, and we waited for Big Steve to come and grind the stumps. He didn't come back that day, and I finally got a call from him several days later explaining that he had had an emergency, but would come the following week. He did get back to grind the stumps and ground a couple of others that were in the area. Overall, I think he did a great job, and the price was right. Only complaint is that he is a little hard to get in touch with, and we had trouble finding out when he was going to finish the job.

They did a great job! When I went back to see what had been done, I couldn't even tell that a tree had ever been there. Steve had warned me that there might be damage to the gazebo because the tree was dead and so large. His crew covered the gazebo and there was absolutely no damage. I was sure that I would lose the azalea that was next to the tree. However, the azalea is still there and I really can't see any damage. These guys did a super job! I would definitely hire them again. In addition, there price was much lower than anyone else. Definitely recommend them.

Steve was friendly and professional. His quoted price was very reasonable. His crew completed the job within the same week - and left the backyard clean. I would definitely use his service again.

They came very promptly. They removed everything, didn't leave any saw dust behind and offered a fair price. I was very satisfied with the word. After I expressed my concern about one tree limb, they had no problem fixing that for me.

Steve Kurtzhals, the owner, came to give us his estimate and agreed to discount by 10% as we are seniors. His estimate was a fraction of the other two we got ($9850 and 9325); all 3 were taken from Angie's List. We were taken aback at the difference in the quotes and decided to try out Big Steve's on the backyard before deciding about the 3 front yard trees. Steve came 2 days later and introduced his team - I think there were 4 men. They set right to work. Those guys really know their knots! One man roped his way high up into the tree and used a chain saw to cut off a branch above him while another man on the ground kept the branch from falling and then lowered it by rope to the ground. Other workers dragged these large limbs to their grinder and fed them in. When all the large limbs were removed, the tree was wedge-cut near the ground and felled. This trunk was then cut into pieces, picked up with a backhoe, and dumped into a truck. The large pieces were picked up and the stumps ground down on the 2nd day. This work was done on some of the hottest days we've had! I was impressed by how each team member knew his job and kept the project moving. When Steve gave the crew the afternoon off because of predicted thunderstorms, I was pleased that he showed that much care for his workers. After the back yard trees were removed, there was no doubt who should remove the ones in front! All in all, we were really pleased with the work and the price. Steve's sells some of the wood for fireplaces, and I hope our oak trees contribute to his inventory.

Steve was wonderful about getting a quote to us right away and then about scheduling us. Unlike some other tree companies, Steve did not try to sell us on having more done that was not necessary. The workers who removed the trees were courteous and very careful not to cause damage to other landscaping and even removed some extra logs that the utility company had left on the property when they had trimmed branches away from the power lines. When we realized that we had forgotten to ask about getting a broken branch on another tree removed, the workers called Steve and got an immediate and nominal price for the extra work so that we could agree to have that extra large limb removed also. The cleanup was spotless. We were very happy with the professionalism and price of the job.

Steve was responsive by email, and his crew dropped off and stacked the firewood while I was at work. I just left him a check.

They were fine. We haven?t made a decision because we haven?t had a meeting in our association yet.

Called Steve and asked for an estimate to remove a tree and cut the stump close to the ground. He provided the estimate the next day and I decided to engage his company on the strength of other reports on Angie's List. He did the work the following week while I was at work, but my neighbor was very impressed with his crew. They cleaned everything up, and even though I was expecting some inevitable damage to the heavily planted beds that were near the tree, there was none. Their cleanup was spotless and the price for the work done was excellent. I'll call him back for any future work I need done.

Provides a fair price, performs good job, even returned afterwards (as promised) to re-grind missed stump pieces. Also used Big Steve to remove large gum tree ($1K) earlier that year, also a quality job.

We paid about $1700. Our experience with them was excellent and we would definitely call them again. I did actually call them again, but they weren?t able to accommodate me because their stump grinding was busted. When we used them, they were punctual, professional and did exactly what I asked them to do. There was no question about and exactly what we discussed was done. We definitely got a value for what we paid.

Excellent! Service was great. You couldn't even tell they had removed the trees, no tree debris left behind.

I was satisfied with their work. The trees were very old. It was time for them to go so nature took its course. The price was very reasonable. They didn't take them out with the roots. They just cut them off. They are coming back later, probably next week, to chip out the roots and pull everything out. They were efficient and they cleaned up after themselves. Their price was good.

Big Steve took my call Wed. evening and arrived Thurs. morning to estimate. His bottom line was 550 dollars cheaper than the first estimate I received from another well regarding arborist I had contacted via Angie's list! He was able to get a crew in the same day. A four man team came onsite and knocked out the job in around two hours. Big Steve was onsite to supervise the job start. They did a perfect job and thorough cleanup. The crew was sharp looking and the trucks were nice. I was impressed. Footnote: I can't stress enough how important it is to get multiple estimates even when dealing with "A" rated contractors.

I called Big Steve's during the MIDDLE OF A BLIZZARD to remove the snow from business parking lot and he ANSWERED HIS PHONE. I spoke with Steve and he said that we would take care of our lot. When I arrived Monday morning our lot was clear. Very prompt, professional and affordable service.
