Big Steve's Tree Care

I needed to have one large tree branch removed because it was scraping the roof and damaging shingles. I called another company that said it would be three weeks before they could send someone out. Steve returned my call within a day and was here the following day to provide an estimate. He scheduled a crew to come out within the week. The crew was efficient and professional. They were careful to avoid damaging the screened porch and outside AC unit while they worked in very close proximity to these. They cleaned up all debris and took it away. The entire job was finished within 30 minutes. While I didn't love paying $150 to remove one tree branch, I doubt anyone else would have charged less. They had to make the trip to my house, and I know that's part of their cost. The timely response and quality of the work were worth it.

Steve (Big Steve) came out and assessed the work that had to be done. He provided a written estimate at that time. We then set a date and time for the work to be done. Five of his employees arrived on time on the agreed upon day. They had all the necessary equipment with them. They worked quickly and knowledgeably. They cleaned up after themselves -- picking up branches, raking up twigs and leaves, cleaning off the walkway and the front stairs, and cleaning away debris from where they had parked their truck.

I was really impressed with them. They were very professional, polite, friendly, and responsive. I needed some firewood, so I called them. I had to leave a message and they got right back to me within half an hour. Since I was calling at the end of spring, it was out of season and they had sold out their stock and were out of firewood. They were very courteous. They knew why I was calling and they knew they didn't have anything to sell me, but they took their time enough to call me back. I really appreciated getting a followup from them. I would not hesitate to call them again in the fall when they are likely to have a full stock of well seasoned firewood.

I requested for an estimate and they got back to me within two days. They were very fast. They drove by my house to access the landscaping situation. They then emailed me the estimate which was very convenient. I did not spend any money for the estimate. Their turnaround time was quick. I was happy that they were able to drive by my house to check things up and get back to me very quickly. They were very easy to work with. I did not end up going with them. I got some of the work done by a friend of my friend who was not an actually company.

Steve responded more promptly than other firms to my query and came out to do the estimate quickly. We got two other estimates for the same work. Steve's price was significantly lower. Once we decided to have him do the work, we were able to schedule it in about a week. His crew arrived promptly, worked steadily through the day (and it took the full day), and cleaned up thoroughly. They were pleasant and professional. The work was done exactly as agreed to.

We were concerned about a large willow oak tree that is very close to our house. I called Steve to come take a look and he was able to come out two days later. He was right on time, professional and a super nice guy. He reassured me that the tree was healthy, but was in need of some thinning out. (This is what I had been told by 3 other companies, except for the one who told me to cut it down!) Steve explained what they would do, and gave me a written estimate. His price was the lowest by $200. I don't usually go with the lowest bidder, but I felt confident about him from the reviews on Angie's List. I was so happy about the price, I didn't even bother to ask for the Angie's List discount. The crew arrived on the scheduled day at 9:00 sharp. They were courteous, careful and hard working. They did a great job on our tree, and the cleanup job was spectacular! SO HAPPY with Big Steve's.

Steve was very responsive to my call and came over 2 days after I called him. Arrived right on time and looked at teh Trees and provided a quote and a service date on the spot. The quote was very reasonable and included the removal of the stumps at a very competitive price. His crew arrived exactly on time and did a great job of cutting down the tree, removing the stumps, including one I added after the initial contract for a small additional cost. They removed all of the brush, left the firewood as described and raked the area clean. The whole experience was a pleasure and I would recomend Steve agian and will use him agian in the near future for more work.

They did an excellent job and I was very pleased. They were extremely reasonable and we got an excellent bargain. They came right away and followed my directions on what I wanted and where I wanted them trimmed. The cleaned up. You wouldn't know that the trees had been trimmed when they left. They were very professional. I have recommended them to my friends.

Steve's estimate was $200 lower than the other estimates, and he arrived at our house when he had said he would. He set a date that day for removal (approximately two weeks), and his crew showed up on that date. The crew manager was extremely courteous and they showed up first thing in the morning with all their equipment. They removed the pine down to the stump without damaging our yard at all or leaving anything behind, even needles, and removed a few large branches sitting in the nearby flower beds that had fallen down over the winter that I didn't mention (nice!). They trimmed the big oak tree in front as agreed---I noticed there were a couple extra limbs missing that I didn't say needed to be taken off, but once I examined them I realized they were rotting through and definitely needed to be removed. Thanks to the crew for the attention to detail on both parts of the job. Would call them again and recommend to anyone.

I received several estimates from tree service companies since the amount estimates varied significantly. After reviewing all estimates, Steve's was the lowest and he gave me an Angie's List discount. Additionally, while many companies requested at least a week to come and do the estimate, Steve came out within two days. The tree service itself went very smoothly. The team was punctual, professional, and completely cleaned up everything when done. The actual cost was exactly the same as the estimate. I would highly recommend "Big Steve's" to anyone needing good tree service.

Steven is very professional, polite, and competent. His estimate was $1,000 less than another Angie's List company. His crew was prompt and efficient and cleaned up well. We will definitely use this company again and recommend to friends.

It went well. There were two days of work. On the first day they removed the trees. On the second day, they ground the roots. We had to wait for a repair to the grinding machine before that part of the job was finished, but we were informed of the delay. The guys did a good job cleaning up on the first day, so we didn't mind waiting. I expected a big mess after the grinding, but I was surprised to see a beautifully mulched flowerbed when he was all done. (The trees were growing inside the borders of the flowerbed.) I recommend Big Steve's.

This was the second time we used this company. They're very professional. Realizing our situation with the tree across our yard and the neighbors, Steve's team was out quickly to take care of it. Steve is clearly someone who believes in honoring his commitments. Great to work with! We'll definitely use them again if we need more work.

A team of five arrived at 8am sharp as scheduled. They promptly went to work and each of them seemed to be well versed in their role for the day...meaning there wasn't a lot of standing around. The main cutter climbed each tree and started from the top down. The cuts at the top of the tree were about 6-8 ft in length and were roped before cutting. The rope allowed the crew on the ground to slowly lower each limb to the ground; no limbs were allowed to free fall after being cut. They removed all limbs and debris right away and swept the driveway before leaving. The stumps were removed using a grinder a few days later as the ground was too wet from rain to do it the same day. Steve showed up as discussed and exactly on time. He uses a remote controlled grinder that is about the size of a golf cart and makes quick work of even the largest of stumps. This tool allowed him to grind my stumps quickly which also meant he was in and out in no time. I did my due diligence and acquired three estimates for the work. Steve was the lowest which makes sense as he is a working owner. This is much better than the non-working owner who doesn't do any work, but wants to get his paid for it. It was obvious after working with Steve that he has the right attitude and takes pride in doing the job well. While most workers today are looking for ways to get in and out as quickly as possible, Steve takes the time to communicate with the owner to level set expectations and finish the job right. He is professional, well spoken and respectful of property. You can't ask for more than that!

The estimator (Steve himself, I think) showed up as scheduled. His estimate was the lowest of three (one of the others was pretty close; the third was almost double), all from A-rated service providers. There was a week or two backlog, which was fine with me (I wasn't in a rush), and I was above to schedule the job for a Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. A crew of five showed up at the scheduled time, and worked for about two hours. They collected, chipped, and hauled away all the branches that they removed. One tree only had two dead branches, and they checked with me to make sure that was all that I wanted removed. Everything went smoothly, and I was very pleased with the price.

It was a good experience even though I did not use him. He came out when he said he would and was on time, and we discussed a big maple in our yard. He seemed very knowledgable, and suggesting removing the maple. Although I may eventually have to have the tree removed, we did not want to take this route yet, and his price seemed high and did not include removing the wood and stump grinding. We ended up going with another tree service at a lower price which allowed us to remove some other smaller trees in the back including stump grinding these three trees and removal, while also trimming the maple back.

the crew arrived on time and began working. the maple tree in the front was done first and they were careful of excisting landscaping. the dead oak in the back yard was next and the men worked hard hand carrying much of the wood back to the truck as the truck could not get very close to the job. the stump grinding was done by a remote control little machine that looked like a big kids toy ! great job clean up afterwards.

This contract was done by e-mail. I requested estimates from three different contractors. Steve was very prompt responding to our request and his price was very competitive. He drove by the properties and immediately sent me an estimate as well as his proof of insurance and other necessary documents. I signed the contract and e-mailed it back to him. He e-mailed a possible date and when he was done, he e-mailed an invoice. I drove by the properties to check that the work was done to our satisfaction and paid. Steve was very professional and courteous when we spoke on the telephone, I never got to meet him but was very pleased with the work he did. He is in our contractor data base in case we have other work.

The 7 inches of snow and ice that fell on Jan. 26-27 snapped several large limbs in a willow oak and 2 maple trees on my property. Steve himself showed up to give me an estimate on the day I'd phoned his company after seeing how highly rated he's been in Angie's List -- and the estimate was under half the cost of the next-highest estimate I got! His crew showed up precisely at the agreed-on time and date, worked carefully and professionally on the trees, and did a thorough job of cleaning up the small stuff. I couldn't be happier with their service and price, and I'll definitely call them again for tree service (e.g. routine pruning)

He came out promptly and explained the fees. I felt the price was reasonable. Even though there was still some snow on the ground the crew came out promptly. I found another limb, which wasn't included in the original quote that they took care of it. They cleaned up well and removed all of the debris. He stayed in contact with me at every stage. I would use them again in the future.

Ordering on the phone was a breeze, delivery was prompt. The guys did an awesome job in delivery and stacking.

I searched the list and went with Big Steve's based on the reports. After a few exchanged voice mails, Julio delivered and stacked the wood and I mailed Steve the check. I have not yet burned any, but it looks in excellent shape.

I called Big Steve and was surprised to learn that he could bring the wood the next day! He said they would come at 9:00am. He arrived at 8:50am. Two men unloaded the wood and stacked it neatly. I paid $30 extra to have it stacked.

Big Steve provided me with by far the lowest estimate to remove my three trees. His crew showed up promptly as scheduled, cut down the trees, grounded up the stumps and remove all wood. I was very pleased with the work and plan to use them again in the future.
