Big Steve's Tree Care

From phone call for estimate service completion, service was top notch. I called for the estimate a week or so following the hurricane, so he noted that they were a bit behind schedule but would be there the following week. My only complaint was they returned 2 weeks later to fulfill the request. We hardly knew they had come, but were happy to see the work was completed and the bill in our mailbox.

Although we played phone tag in the beginning, we finally touched base and when we scheduled a time for him to pass by and give me an estimate he was punctual, very courteous and knowledgeable. His estimate was extremely reasonable as well. Although we decided to go with someone else, I will keep his company in mind for future tree issues because I appreciated his upfront manner and reasonable prices.

I found them on Angie’s List. Big Steve himself came out and gave the estimate. He was really good. He is a super likable and professional guy. He is a real nice guy. He gave me a decent bid. He actually was going to include the landscaping and the leveling part of it, but I think his price was a little bit more than another company. The only reason I used another company is because there was an arborist involved. I would have gone with Big Steve’s, but I really felt like I needed an arborist. I really wanted them to save the tree, but we had only bought the house. I really liked Steve and his demeanor. He is someone who I would definitely consider in the future. He quoted me about $3300 for the job.

They did a terrific job. I lost a large limb during recent heavy rain and decided to have the tree taken down. Steve's was the first to submit an estimate and they were also the most reasonable. I had three cable/phone lines from the pole to my house running straight through the branches of this tree and even two power lines on the outer perimeter also running through branches of this dying tree. Steve's crew was prompt, swift and skilled at working around all the lines and getting the branches out safely and the tree removed. Steve himself returned a few days later with the stump grinder (with remote control no less!). He removed the stump and left a tidy mulch memorial to the tree. In addition, I even received tips on getting rid of hornets in another tree and filling in holes to keep the tree healthy. I would recommend these guys in a minute and will use them for any future tree work I need done.

I asked how soon he could get the estimate into his schedule. I explained this was not my personal property. He asked me for the other phone number and address. I am setting up the appointments because the owner lives out of town typically. He became a little bit surly and requested the address and phone number. I ended up saying 'no thanks' due to his attitude. He didn't want to even tell me if and when he could give an estimate. I did not encounter this with any of the other companies I called.

He was here when he said he was going to be here and was very professional. He was efficient in the time it took him to look at everything and tell me what it was going to cost. The estimate was free. I have not done the work yet, but I plan to actually hire him.

A limb from our dead tree got caught in another limb in a storm. Big Steve came out and took down and hauled away the dead limb. We are happy with his service and would definetly hire him again.

When he shows up to do the job he is always prompt and punctual. His crews are responsible and clean up when the job is completed. He always carries his insurance card to reassure customers. I would recommend him to anyone.

Steve responded to my call the same day. He came by the next day to look at the job and gave me an estimate the same day. I selected his estimate from three bids. His crew arrived on the day agreed. The foreman was obviously experienced, he was polite and thorough. Working in the holly trees was especially difficult, but they responded to my wishes and gave me advice if needed. They cleaned up completely as expected. Big Steve's is number 1 on my list of tree services.

After receiving 4 quotes on our project, we selected Big Steve's Tree Care. I sent the signed contract back via e-mail and they completed the project as promised. They were prompt, efficient and very professional. The proposal and cost estimate were spot on.

We've used Big Steve's twice now in two years. Once to remove a couple dead trees, deadwood a huge tree, and prune a couple trees away from power lines and such (total for all work was about $1400 - wow!!!!), then a year later we asked him to look for potential problems and grind out 5 stumps for us (no problems spotted, about $400 for all the stumps). Steven's price quote was better than the other two we solicited, and his crew does excellent work. He also (politely) informed me of some of the benefits and drawbacks of trees on our lot so we know what to expect of them. His crew was so careful I didn't have a moment's worry about their safety or our property. Really, really professional guys who know exactly what they're doing and how to do it safely. I've recommended Big Steve's to everyone I know. My mother used him recently for removals, pruning and deadwooding and was equally happy. Now she's recommending him too. Great service at a great price, with no downside. What more can you want?

Steve was very prompt to respond to my request for an estimate. His price was not the most expensive, or the least expensive. We selected Steve based on the promptness of coming to do the estimate and his professionalism during the estimate. He seemed like he really knew what he was talking about. He has all the insurance information ready upon request. When it came to remove the trees and grind the stump, Steve and his crew was right on time, and they worked straight through to lunch 30 minute break then straight through to finish. Before leaving they ground up the branches and had the area cleaned up, so we could not tell they had been at the house.Steve also noticed that we are doing yard renovation and Steve had a recommendation of a friend. to help us with the landscaping.We cannot say enough about Big Steve. Quick, responsive but did not leave a bill making it difficult to pay him.

It went very well - seemless and low stress to the homeowner. I was worried about the large tree near the house getting trimmed, but Steves folks took care to ensure the limbs fell into the yard, well away from the structures and cars.

As a Realtor, I have both used Big Steve's for my own tree work as well as referred him to clients for tree work at their homes. Nothing but wonderful experiences with this company. Prices are the best around - and his folks are polite & knowledgable. You can't go wrong using this company.

These guys are very professional. They arrived on time did a great job and cleaned up all on the hottest day of the year (so far). I will use them again and recommend them highly.

We are pleased with the quality and price of Big Steve's work. Upon calling Steven, he came out within a day and provided a thorough evaluation and quote for the work. His quote was very competitive. And although his company was the newest (compared to the others we called), we decided to give him a chance since he knew what he was talking about and the price was good. After agreeing to go with him, booking the day was easy and done within a few days. On the morning of the work, we experienced our only hiccup with the experience. His crew was promptly there, but Steven was not. My husband, who was waiting to talk to Steven further about our preference for the fotinia, waited for him and tried to explain the job to the crew, who had stated they had no idea what the job entailed. Maybe there was a miscommunication between me and Steven as to whether he would be there at the start of the job, but that morning was pretty stressful. After talking to Steven on the phone a few times, he spoke to the foreman (Julio) and assured us that he explained to the crew what to do. Because of this part, I give a "B" in professionalism. The crew was efficient and Steven came to the site and inspected their work for quality and pointed out more areas to prune. That quality control was impressive. At the end of the day, Steven called me to ask about the pear tree, which had been misshapen from a storm. They had been conservative about the pruning and offered to do more if I preferred so after I saw it in person. Although the tree looked fine, I still wanted a little more cosmetic work. He gladly had his crew out the next day to prune more. Again, I was impressed by that. Overall, working with Big Steve's was a good experience. I think their quality was excellent and price was good. II was impressed with the follow-up on customer satisfaction. My only suggestion would be on the initial day, either Steven is there to talk it over with the crew, or the foreman have a clear understanding of the job and then just confirm the details.

Just a day or two after I contacted him, Steve came out to give me an estimate that seemed very reasonable. After getting a second estimate, we decided to go with Steve. He set up an appointment to prune several trees and grind stumps within about a week. They arrived when they said they would and did a good job.

Steve was professional on phone, gave a quick quote that was accurate (some of the others weren't!) and one of the lowest priced quotes. Plus, nice Angie's List coupon to help with the cost! The team was prompt when they came, but, I believe Steve was out of town during the work so there was just a small amount of confusion - they had to return to grind the stump out, and I had been told we'd be left an invoice to send in our payment, but we were asked for the payment by the foreman. No biggies though. The only disappointing part that led to the "B" grade was that they broke off a prominent limb of a small dogwood tree that was at least 15 ft away from the tree being removed. But, I would probably use them again.

They said they would call me back to schedule a time to do the work, but I have not heard from them yet. I have tried contacting them since, but they have never returned my calls.

I called Steve's Tree Care for two reasons - one of our trees looks unhealthy, and also some trees were encroaching on our deck space (deck is about 12 feet off the ground), and reaching the roof of our home. The main culprits were a big oak (unhealthy looking and also covering our deck) and a sycamore tree that desperately needed to be scaled back. I left a message on a Monday, Steve called back within 24h and offered to come out that week to take a look, but on my request we scheduled the estimate for the following Monday. His estimate was very reasonable. He recommended a different, cost-efficient company who could do some spraying on the oak to treat whatever's eating it. Initially, I thought it might have to be taken down, but he suggested that I not do this until the tree was obviously dying (losing all its leaves etc). Once we decided to go ahead they came back out within a couple of days. They actually trimmed a little more than I expected (from a couple of other trees too) - which was awesome, we definitely needed to trim back those branches - and did not charge extra. I got home from work that day, and the only evidence they had been there was the sunlight on my deck! I am very happy with the results - our deck now feels spacious, not claustrophobic any longer, and finally I can get some sun on the deck!

Steve was terrific. He was quick to come out to the house to give an estimate and it ended up being the lowest that we received. Steve was very knowledgeable and gave a very detailed plan on what specifically needed to be done, which was to extensively trim 2 large trees. He stated that his team would come back the following week by 9:00am, but they arrived early at 8:00am, which was great! They did a fantastic job and at one point, my neighbor instructed one of the men to trim branches that were hanging from one of the trees over her property. He told her that it was not a good idea, since it would make the tree uneven and could make it more vulnerable to falling. Since I was in the house, he came to me to make me aware of the incident and I was in full agreement with him and asked that he proceed as Steve had planned previously. I was very impressed with the whole crew and how well informed and knowledgeable they were. The job took approximately 3 hours with trimming and clean up, which was fast, since they had an enormous amount of work to do. They left the yard spotless. They were very professional and courteous. Overall all, I was very impressed with the whole process and I will definitely be using them in the future.

They showed up on time and completed the job as agreed. Overall a very good experience. Their price was competitive and better than one other estimate we'd gotten. I just think $650 is a lot of money to take down a tree; this is not a negative reflection on Steve's just overall as a service, the prices to take down a fairly tall but simple tree for the industry are high.
