Big Steve's Tree Care

Overall, delivery went without a hitch. I opted to have my kids and I move and stack the wood ourselves, but that is an additional service Steve's does provide.

The services themselves were well done. However, the experience leading up to the day of service was not great due to communication problems. First, it is unlikely that you will be able to talk to a person if you call Big Steve's. There is, apparently, no office or secretary to answer the phone so you're likely to go directly to voice mail. After some phone-tag you'll talk to Big Steve himself. Only after a game of phone-tag. Second, I was not able to use their Angie's List coupon due to poor communication. Their coupon requires the owner to be present at the time of the quote. I told their voice mail service to knock on the door or call me on when they arrived on the property for the quotation so that I could discuss the project and use the coupon. I stayed at home all day waiting. That night I stepped outside to find a quote stuffed into the mail box. There was no knock and no call. A friend strongly recommended Big Steve's so I decided to proceed and hope that it was just a bad week for them. Third, Big Steve's insisted that ordering a "drop service" from Dominion Power was my responsibility while Dominion insisted that it was the responsibility of the tree service. Since the power lines the tree was entangled with involved my neighbors as well there were many phone calls between myself, Big Steve's, my neighbors, and Dominion Power. The primary problem was defining which neighbors were required to drop service. When was finally able to talk to a person with Big Steve's there was nothing but confusion over which neighbor. They couldn't provide an address or good description of the neighbor I needed to ask this enormous favor of. The conversation seemed to frustrate everyone on the phone and was not fruitful. I ended up needing to ask all of my neighbors for the favor of dropping their power lines for an entire day in December. HOWEVER, the service itself was clean, quick, efficient. The workers on site were professional, polite, and good communicators. The tree was safely removed without damage to any surrounding property or upsetting my neighbors. The stump grinding proved especially tricky due to the tree having grown over and into a concrete pad. Despite the concrete obstacles they were able to grind down the stump and large roots effectively. I am torn about using Big Steve's Tree Care again. The service performed was good; getting to the point of service was not.

I liked them. The problem was the actual tree was in my neighbor’s yard and they would not let me work on them. He did come out and give me a good evaluation. I was impressed with him and he seemed to know what he was doing. His quote was very reasonable. He did say that the job could be done later. His price was very reasonable. I recommend him.

Big Steve's returned my call right away, arranged a time to stop by and gave me a written estimate on the spot. He was also nice enough to let me use an Angie's List coupon, even though I forgot to mention it at the time of the estimate. The employees who did the work were pleasant, and worked most of the day cutting the tree down and carting the wood away. We had asked that some wood be left for firewood, and when I checked in with them later that afternoon, they had forgotten, but they pulled some of the wood already loaded on their truck back off to leave for us. The only issue we had was that the stump wasn't initially ground as deep as we were expecting, so we called and they promptly returned to grind it further. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others.

I had several tree companies come out to give me an estimate on what I thought was a small amount of work. Most of them came back with recommendations to do lots of work at outrageous prices. Steve came out and gave me a good price on the work I needed done and didn't shill for additional work. He was practical about what the trees needed and where I should and should not spend money. He was the only one who seemed to get what I was looking for. The work was done as expected when expected. I would use them again.

The guy who came over was nice, professional, not rude at all and nice to talk to. I called them one and he came the next day. Actually he came a couple minutes early, so he was on time and answered all my questions.

They gave great price and they were timely and good execution. I would use them again if needed

Emailed the company for a quote. Email communication was prompt. They were flexible with delivery dates and called during the day to make sure we were around to receive the firewood. Everyone involved was friendly and professional. They claim that the wood is seasoned at least 18 months. So far, with the exception of 1 or 2 pieces, the wood burns well and we have had no problems. Would definitely use them again and recommend to others.

Called Steve's for firewood - they delivered good dry wood that was sized to fit my wood stove. The wood was hardwood and they stacked it for the price. I have a rack that fits about a cord of wood, Steve's filled it and then stacked another pile next to it because they had measured out a cord in their truck and they left every piece.

Rep came out promptly to offer an estimate. Although they were not the cheapest, other companies wanted to use spikes to climb the trees since they were so tall. Big Steve's does not use spikes on live trees. We scheduled the work pretty quickly - the foreman was professional and they completed all the work in one day. I will use them again and have recommended them to neighbors

I decided to have Big Steve remove the entire tree which was really threatening the house. He and his crew arrived quickly, did a super job in removing the entire tree and taking away all the wood and then completely cleaning up the entire area.

Overall, i'm very happy with the job

We had significant tree damage during hurricane Sandy. Our neighbors tree fell into our yard taking out part of our fence and three large trees. In addtiion, we had a lot of tree trimming work we needed done around the house (several large limbs removed and 5 other trees topped off). We found Steve on Angie's list and gave him a . As promised, Steve showed up on Dec 28th to do the work. We were out of town and when we came home everything was completed as promised and all debris had been removed. Steve did a great job! I will continue to use him in the future for my tree work and would recommend him to anyone.

Steve was very responsive on the phone and was able to deliver our wood the next day. The driver was friendly and nice and really good about communicating his arrival time to us. I only gave them a B on punctuality because they were supposed to deliver at 4 and instead it was closer to 6:30 pm when they got to our house. But, the driver called 3 times between 2 and 6 to let us know he was going to be late and then when he would be arriving. The delay was due to weekend traffic on the beltway and not at all the companies fault.

Very good he show up to give me an estimate. He was a bit more expensive than others, but I work out a deal with Steven. He was very proffesional. The crew show up on time and work all day and finish the job.

Other than providing an estimate, I cannot comment on the quality of this company's work. Their bid was approximately 10% higher than the company I chose and I did not attempt to negotiate a lower price. Big Steve was prompt, courteous, professional and provided a detailed estimate.

They arrived early and had the tree cut down in a timely manner. They informed me that the stump grinding would be done later that day or the next business day. They came out the next business day to take care of the stump.

They came very promptly and did the work when I wasn't even there and then they sent me a bill. It was great

Steve's had the most competetive bid. They communicated well and did a great job. I would use them again in the future if need be.

I loved working with this company. When I called for an estimate, Steve answered the phone and promptly came out and provided a written proposal. This was not true of all companies I called for an estimate - with some I had to converse with an answering machine and some did not return my calls. I finally got five estimates and Steve's estimate was very competitive. On top of that, he gave a discount for Angie's List members which I really appreciated. His team came on the agreed-upon date and took down the tree. The tree trunk (now in huge pieces) was not immediately removed from my backyard; I would have appreciated a note or phone call as to why this was the case as I was not home during the removal. This is the only suggestion I have for better service. I was home two days later when his crew returned to take the rest of the tree away and one of the men explained that a piece of equipment broke down and that is why they could not immediately remove the whole tree. Fair enough. The crew was friendly and did a nice job of cleaning up after themselves - including cleaning up the street in front of my house where they had made a mess. I really appreciated that. I had another tree removed three years ago using another company and did not call them back as I had to follow-up with them to complete the job we discussed. Not so with this company - they were just great.

The service went well. They were punctual, professional, and efficient. I would use their services again and would recommend them to others.

I had used Big Steve's Tree Care in the past, and called Steve again to evaluate the health of several trees in my back yard that I thought might be endangering the house. He gave me an appointment three days from my call--arrived on time--and spent a good amount of time assessing the trees and discussing the ins and out of Fairfax County conservation easements. He ended up not recommending any work, and did not charge me anything for the evaluation. I was pleased and impressed.

From the beginning, Steven responded to my request quickly, gave an estimate of work to be performed and responded quickly to change orders that I made throughout the process. Highly professional, a great job and a very fair price. I would absolutely use them again and highly recommend their company. This is what customer service is all about!! GREAT JOB!!

Really couldn't ask for better service. Scheduling both the estimate and the service was a breeze. The cost of the service was about 65% lower than the other estimate I received. I left work the morning of the service, came back at the end of the day and the branch was gone without any real trace.
