I just had a very pleasant experience with ABLE plumbing of Northern Va. I am in the process of re-finishing my kitchen, I had to move the sink 16 inches, add a garbage disposal, an in-cabinet dishwasher, and a line for a ice maker on the new fridge. This required a plumber to come out 3 times, first for an estimate, second for the rough plumbing to pass the first inspection, and third to finish everything after the cabinets were in. I knew it would be expensive, but I expected it would be very expensive, and it wasn't. The people at ABLE plumbing came out, took the time to go over the project with me, showed me some things that I needed to be aware of, and helped me find a slow leak in my bathroom. He showed me what needed to be done, what I could do myself, and gave me an estimate for the work. By the time he left, I was already very impressed. When I called them to do the rough-in, they made me an appointment within 3 days, came out on time and quickly did the work. No surprises, no trouble. Three weeks later when I called them for the final – the same thing: an appointment within 3 days, set to fit my schedule. Then they hooked up my Sink, Garbage Disposal, Dishwasher and Icemaker line in under 2 hours. Wow. I especially want to thank Danilo, who was bright, courteous, quick, and did great work. He laid down blankets at his work area to protect my floor, and cleaned up after himself completely. They were there when they said they would be, had everything they needed, and explained anything I needed to know about the work they had done. I would heartily recommend Able Plumbing to anyone. They were on time and did a good job, but they didn't call me back the second time until after I had called them several times.
Description of Work: They came twice, once to diagnose a leaky tub faucet and the second time to repair it. They replaced the shower head and faucet, 30-day warranty on labor.

Needed them to come out and snake a shower drain. The drain had been extremely slow to drain for a couple day and the enzyme drain cleaner hadn't done anything. Right before the guy from Able showed up I decided to run water in the drain and it drained quickly. I still had him snake the drain just for piece of mind. He also gave some suggestions on how to keep the line clean and I talked to him about replacing the drain lines when we plan to do a bathroom renovation later this year (though I didn't ask for a quote or anything). Overall, the Able plumber was very nice and helpful.

Our water heater died suddenly Friday, January 20 at around 11 PM. While I had been expecting this (it was 14 years old), I certainly was expecting more of a build-up. At 8:05 the next morning, I called Able based on their extremely positive reviews on Angie's List, and I was not disappointed in the slightest.I explained the issue to their front office, and they immediately asked me questions about make/model/age of my water heater, and gave me a reasonable window for when their technician would show up (afternoon, likely after 2 PM). The tech was actually able to get to my house earlier than expected, and actually called me on the way to ask me some more questions and provide any details that I wanted to hear. After arriving, Nelson gave me my options to fix the water heater along with the associated cons, so in the end I decided to replace it. Nelson started work at about 2:15, and was done before 4:30 - we now have a perfectly installed hot water heater. I would absolutely recommend Able to anyone looking for plumbers - the work was exceptional, from scheduling to the actual job, and the price was competitive (if slightly high, but it was a rush job on a Saturday).

We contacted Able after reading the many positive reviews on Angie's List. We left a message after hours one evening, they called back the following morning and scheduled the technician to come out the following Monday. We had a list of items that needed attention. A leaking tub handle, a leaking shower head, a leaking toilet and a nearly clogged drain. My wife was at home and was very happy with the work the technician did. He explained everything in detail and had all the necessary parts on his truck including some shower handles that fit our antiquated plumbing. We also were concerned about our hot water heater and decided to replace it after it wad determined to be almost 20 years old instead of the 10 we originally thought! They we're able to schedule the installation of the new hot water heater just four days later on that Friday. The installation was quick and easy and the technician pointed out that there was no shut off valve for the hot water heater and for a small additional fee, added one. We really appreciated him being proactive! We also appreciated all of the advice he had about the pros and cons of a traditional hot water heater versus a tankless one. We're still very happy with our decision to go with the traditional hot water heater. Both visits were great with the technician being helpful, honest, quick and efficient. We will definitely be using Able again for future plumbing related needs!
Description of Work: The first visit was for a list of items: leaking toilet and showers. Clogged drain and new trap: $600. The second visit was to install a new hot water heater: $1300.

I called them as soon as they opened for a hot water heater that was leaking very badly. The receptionist was quick to setup the appointment, and offered to help me figure out how to turn off the water to it (although I had already done this). She estimated that the plumbers would be there by 11 am that day. They were at my house by 10:30am. The plumbers were very professional and polite. And even though the job was actually a difficult one (my heater is placed behind the furnace in a very small closet), they still managed to quickly replace the old heater with a new one. The price for the water heater seemed a bit high (I had done some quick shopping the night before), but as it was an emergency order, and the price included installation, I really can't complain. I would definitely recommend this company, and will be going back to them for future plumbing help.

My experience was excellent. Based on this experience, I would absolutely use Able again. Able answered their phones on the Federally-observed New Years Holiday (Monday, 2 January 2012) and I made appointment for me "before noon" on 3 January. (Before setting the appointment, I called around to get other estimates, but Able was the only one answering their phone.) The next day I got a call at work, as promised, when the plumber was on the way to my house. I drove home and "Rob" arrived a short time later. Rob was great. He figured out the issue with the house's main water valve immediately and instead shut off the water using the valve outside the house, which he quickly found while digging through ivy. He then fixed the toilet. After that was done, he fixed the house's main water valve by cutting the old valve off the copper pipe and welding a new (and better) valve into place. I was billed for 1.5 hours of work. He also knocked off $30 off the bill, since I found Able on Angie's List (after he asked me how I had heard about Able) and for the old towel he accidentally dripped welding solder on while he was working (which I had voluntarily given to him to use). Overall, the quality of work was excellent. He used my store-bought parts when he could, and used parts from his truck when he couldn't. Rob was also happy to explain to me what he was doing, and showed me what he was up to before and after his work was done. Of course, I wasn't crazy about the $350 bill, but he did great work and that's how much plumbers cost in my area, so I can't complain. Rob even noticed that my outdoor garden hose was still attached and unhooked it for me, reminding me that you should remove your outside hoses during Winter to prevent the hose water from backing up into the house pipes and causing them to freeze.
Description of Work: I needed a basic fix on a toilet -- the fill valve and the shutoff valve connecting to the wall. The shutoff valve inside the toilet was getting old and making a rumbling, vibrating sound for several seconds when the toilet was nearly done filling the tank, and the rumbling was running through the pipes in the wall and sometimes making a lot of noise. I wanted to fix this myself and bought the parts, but when I tried to turn off the water supply valve next to the toilet, the handle came off in my hand (problem #2). So I bought a new water supply valve and tank hose too, but when I got home and was ready to fix both problems, I found that the main water shutoff valve inside my house was not working -- it just kept spinning and spinning and wouldn't turn the water off (problem #3). I didn't want to accidentally turn a regular repair into a plumbing emergency, so I logged onto Angie's list and called Able Plumbing.

My water heater stopped working one day and Able plumbing came out to service/check out the unit. It wasn't totally inoperable, but the cost to replace the problem would have cost as much as a new unit. So, I decided to go with a new unit, more efficient and I don't have to worry about it breaking down again. The technician was very nice, answered my questions and was punctual.

I wont go into too many details but I am on a septic system that relies on an outdoor pump to work. When that pump fails, it's a horrible dirty job. Able came recommended from another Angies list plumber; called when I thought a basement toilet was clogged.Able was not the usual company I have used in the past; which has local well/septic experience. I took the recommendation and called Able. They were very responsive and scheduled me for early the next day. Tech (Rob) was on time. The only confusion was that he thought that the pump was inside the house and not in a concrete pit inside. None of this job is easy and Rob had to get creative in the piping and pump position. Turned out beautiful...or as beautiful as a pump in a pit can be.Rob set it up considering the next tech, (which might be him) making replacing it as easy as can be.I would use Able again in an instant.

We got them from Angie's List. We have them coming out again tomorrow. It was actually $1300 or $1400 but I didn't want to use that because we had a few things that needed to be removed in order for them to get in. They were very prompt and helpful. The owner actually came out. I went with them because they were listed on Angie's List and their reviews were excellent. They had to come out twice and they didn't charge us for the first visit because the guy was not quite sure of water heaters. That's when the owner came out the very next day. They really did what it needed to get the job done without charging an exorbitant amount of money. The guy kept swearing at me the whole time but what stood out was just how absolutely professional everything was. Their punctuality and quality of the service was good. The gentleman who came out was courteous. They were very nice and good with our dogs. They graded out to be less than the other two estimates we got so that was fantastic.

Outstanding service. I can see why other customers consider them one of the best companies to utilize from the list for any plumbing related need.
Description of Work: Called Able Plumbing on a weekend when most other plumbers don't work and they responded to a simple water heater issue concerning the pilot light . technician responded within 2 hours and resolved the issue within 15 minutes. Tech went over pilot light care issues and lit the heater . I used the handy company coupon off the internet that brought cost down and he offered excellent advice on purchasing the floor water alarms to detect if water heater, sump or another appliance/source in the basement mechanical room in the event of a basement flood/water water. 2 weeks later we had a leak from another appliance, alarms I bought at home depot went off, worked great and we stopped a potentially bad spill at 3:00 am from occurring outside room to rest of basement. I liked the tech's professional approach to advising as opposed to charging for a service not needed on the water heater. In fact a few weeks later, I had a spill thinking it was the water heater, called Able and the tech confirmed that it was the water filtration system that created the spillage not the water heater. He said the heater was working well and not the culprit and he did not charge for the emergency call. We fixed the water filtration system separately. Able will be our plumber when we have water heater issues if they occur, from here out.

The gentleman they sent out was not the brightest bulb in the bunch. He arrived on time and I explained to him the issue. He began with looking at the water damage in the kitchen then went upstairs to look in the bathroom. He came back a little to quickly in my opinion and proceeded to tell me that he needed to break into the ceiling's drywall in order to find the source of the leak, saying that it might take a while (a few days even) to find it. I told him, no, he would not be breaking into the kitchen ceiling because the source of the leak was coming from the bathroom upstairs--I had been able to figure that much out myself. He looked puzzled, went back upstairs and after a more thorough investigation (he wanted proof of how I knew the water was coming from the tub and I showed him the freshly soaked towels I had laid on the floor at the base of the tub the night before), told me the leak was coming from the faucet valve in the tub. He explained he would have to break into the tile in order to change out the valve. He wasn't sure if he had the valve in stock--he said he would check and call me back later that day. He called back a few days later. By then, I was already completely disenchanted with this company and moved on to someone else to have the repairs done.
Description of Work: Needed a plumber to find the source of the puddles of water accumulating at the base of the tub in the upstairs bathroom that was causing water damage to the kitchen ceiling to the ceiling below it.

Our first floor bathroom bathtub faucet developed a leak. We contacted Able Plumbing, based on outstanding reviews received on Angie's list. Scheduling the appointment went well and the plummer arrived within the scheduled timeframe. After his arrival the plummer was apparently under the impression that he was to replace the faucet, vice attempting to repair, and we had to stop him just before he was about to start tearing a hole in the bathroom drywall. Once it was explained to him we wanted to attempt to repair first, he spent about 10-15 minutes trying to remove the faucet handles. Afterwhich, he came out and told us he could not remove the faucets, as they were too corroded. He suggested we soak them in WD40 and he would come back out at a later date to attempt repair. I was puzzled over the whole scenario and find it interesting that a plummer could not perform a basic task of removing bathroom faucet handles. We will not use Able Plumbing again and were truly disappointed by the whole experience. We did eventually get our faucets replaced by another plumbing company.

Response from Able Plumbing Inc
It is unfortunate that this customer is dissatisfied, but after research and discussion we stand behind our handling of this call. It came in “Replace shower faucet – No access/no shut offs “ This tells the technician that he is going to have to cut drywall and we would’ve told the client that we would leave the access area as neat as possible but we don’t repair drywall. When the client stopped him, our tech attempted to remove the handles and repair, but was unsuccessful. Given the age of this property, 55+ years, the parts may have been *corroded* together and that is why a basic task was not so basic. A faucet even half as old as the house, possibly not made any longer, may have cost much more to repair than to replace, IF he had gotten it apart, possibly taking the shower unusable and out of commission during the search for these parts causing a larger inconvenience for the homeowner. The ticket is signed by the customer that he was satisfied with the work and the ticket reads “that the customer would have to be willing to change entire faucet, it’s a discontinued item”. The faucet did have to be replaced as stated in their report - (I guess the other plumber also told them it couldn’t be repaired). Able Plumbing regrets that this customer is unhappy; we would have enjoyed counting them among our satisfied clients.

Description of Work: We had an odor coming from the family room bathroom. It would come and go. We have a septic system so we tried all of the trouble-shooting tips such as pouring water down the drains to be sure traps weren't dry, cleaning out the drains in the shower and sink. Service tech thought that replacing the wax seal under the toilet would take care of the problem. It's been two weeks and there has been no return of the odor.

Our kitchen faucet stopped working. We called Able Plumbing for service. They came out and found out that the faucet was clogged and needed to be changed. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Able Plumbing. I discovered water leaking into my kitchen ceiling from the upstairs master bath toilet the night before I had to go out of town on a week-long business trip. I shut off the toilet before I left, and then browsed Angie's List from the airport for a plumber. I was able to schedule my appointment via an email conversation with Able. They very helpfully provided complete information about hourly rates, reminded me about the Angie's List coupon for first-time customers, and scheduled an appointment that was convenient to my holiday leave schedule. Like clockwork, they gave me a call an hour before my scheduled appointment block to tell me that the technician was on the way. Danielo, the technician, was an absolute gem. He shook my hand, introduced himself, and then proceeded to drop a large cloth on the hall floor to wipe his feet. I showed him the master bath toilet and also the guest bath toilet, which was shut off because of a bad flapper valve. He asked me specific questions about the duration of the problems, the frequency with which we heard water running, and whether we had noticed any leaking water around the toilets themselves. He carefully explained what he suspected was the likely problem with the leaking MB toilet, and wanted to try the simpler and cheaper repair first to see if that stopped the leaking. I never once felt that I was being misled or encouraged to purchase services or parts I didn't need. I was taken by this fact because my previous experience with another plumber in the area went very differently (they were trying to sell me upgraded parts and fix things that were not broken, and they charged me significantly more when I had the other 2 toilets in our house resealed and the flapper valves replaced). Danielo was exceedingly polite, easygoing, and explained everything he did. He showed me each repair and new part. His work was immaculate, and he removed all of the old parts and put them back on his truck. I was so impressed with him that I did something I've never done before: I called the company immediately after he left to tell them what a wonderful experience I'd had with them, and what a great employee they have in Danielo. I will definitely be using Able Plumbing from now on when I have any plumbing needs. They are top notch.
Description of Work: I contacted Able Plumbing after I discovered fresh water stains on a downstairs ceiling from the master bath toilet leaking upstairs. We had also recently turned off the guest bedroom toilet because it constantly ran and was wasting water. Danielo, the technician, suggested two possible causes for the leaking master bath toilet, and recommended that we try to address the least invasive and expensive cause first - a decaying wax seal - before looking at a pipe leaking. Sure enough, when he removed the toilet, he found water immediately around the seal area. He asked how old the house was and whether we had ever replaced the seal before (we had not), and he said the original seal had simply worn out. I had him replace the flapper valve as well, since it was original to the 10-year old toilet and was probably near the end of its useful life. Additionally, he replaced the supply line. He quickly replaced the flapper valve in the guest toilet and installed a new supply line, and I asked him to look at the seal on that one as well, since I knew that it was also the original seal. He showed me that this seal was also decaying, and I went ahead and had him replace that one as well to prevent another ceiling leak down the road. He was done in about 75 minutes. He recommended that I trace the now-dried water stains on the downstairs ceiling with a pencil, and then watch the ceiling for the next 14 days to see if the water stain expanded beyond the pencil tracing. He was pretty confident that the leak was caused only by the decayed seal, but he wanted me to keep an eye out in case there might be a second cause for the leak. He went over the bill with me line by line, deducted my Angie's List coupon, and told me that I had a 30 day warranty on all of the work he had performed that day.

Description of Work: My friend, Terry K purchased a 15 year old townhome in Alexandria with very low water pressure inside the house. We set up an appointment with Able Plumbing the afternoon of closing to fix the problem. The plumber from Able Plumbing arrived on time, was clean, neat and personable and came up with a solution to the problem quickly. Remove the totally clogged water filter attached to the main line! While he was there, he checked out one other minor problem, fixed it in a snap and charged only for the part needed. I will definitely call on Able Plumbing again!

A representative from Able Plumbing called, in advance, to let me know that the plumber (Nelson) would soon arrive. Nelson was very professional and answered every question that I had. He performed the work in an excellent manner, and cleaned up after himself. All in all, we were very impressed with his work ethic and are very pleased with the results. He made sure that I was completely satisfied before he left, and made sure that we had no other plumbing problems in the house.
Description of Work: Plumber replaced the single faucet in our bathtub. The work required accessing the plumbing by cutting through the wallboard in a closet in an adjoining room.

They were very quick to respond. They went through a number of steps to identify the issue before they started cutting out pipes, to make sure they had the right solution. They even let me borrow their wet vac so I could clean up the rest of my basement while they fixed the issue.
Description of Work: Cut out a section of my main drainage pipe. Snaked the main drainage pipe to my septic tank to clear a blockage. Then fit in the new replacement pipe.

When I called the office to make an appointment I spoke with a woman who was very nice, She took all my information, made the appointment (with a 4 hour window) and quoted me their rates. She told me they would call when they were on the way and in fact she called and the guys arrived within 30 minutes. These guys (2 came) are quite possibly the most professional and friendly plumbers I've ever worked with. I used the $20 coupon from Angie's list and they were very happy to credit the coupon. I would recommend them to anyone !
Description of Work: Able Plumbing repaired a leaking pipe over my hot water heater.
