Description of Work: We have been working with Schaffer Company for over a year now, following the serious health decline of my husband and the need for extensive modifications to our new home to accommodate his handicaps. Tony Schaffer has been marvelous throughout the entire process. His work is not the least expensive you will find, but it is worth every penny because the results are both practical and aesthetically pleasing. Tony and his team installed a series of grab bars throughout our home (including state-of-the-art pull-down bars over the master bathroom commode), and all are solid and attractive. He next put in an efficient and attractive stair lift, and managed to solve the problem of a narrow hallway at the foot of the stairs by changing the door on the adjoining linen closet, to allow the lift to function without drastically altering the appearance of the hall. Another project involved building an extension from the garage entry to the house that allows a ramp to accommodate my husband’s wheelchair. The most extensive interior work was the renovation of the master bathroom. A glass shower with a raised step-in was replaced with an entirely new wheel-in shower with a beautiful tile floor and a reworking of the tiled walls. The toilet enclosure walls were changed so that the bathroom is an open space, yet the area remains defined thanks to the retention of part of the upper wall surrounding the toilet. The master sink area cabinets were adapted so that a wheelchair can slide underneath. The resulting work in the bathroom have been favorably reviewed by everyone who sees and to comment on how much more beautiful, and still useful for handicap needs, is the resulting modifications. In short, we ended up with a fully functioning handicapped accessible bathroom that was, at the same time, both aesthetically pleasing and finished to the highest qualitative level. Finally, the most recent project was the renovation of the back patio and front walkway/entry way to the house. The original concrete was replaced with elegant blue slate, and all steps removed so that both areas are completely wheelchair accessible. Again, full attention was paid to ADA requirements but, equally importantly, the finish and quality of the work was excellent, resulting in a significant addition to the look and value of our home. In all of their work with us, Tony has been attentive and completely understanding of the handicap needs of my husband, so much so that we feel his work has added to the quality of my husband’s life. The high caliber of his professionalism has made all our dealings a positive experience. He and his wife Becky have been wonderful to deal with. We truly have felt fortunate to work with the Schaffers and their company, and would highly recommend them to anyone who places a premium on quality work delivered with responsiveness and care.
