Greg Prouty, who is the owner, was very polite. He answered all of our questions about the chimney because we never had one before. He took the time to explain everything to us. We're hiring them to re-fix our chimney in 2 weekends.

His price was on the high side for what he did.

Greg Prouty is an honest businessman. We were concerned that our chase cover/chimney cap might need replacement because several of our neighbors have had trouble with theirs. Greg and a coworker arrived at the appointed time. They inspected both fireplaces but saw no evidence of leaks. They got up on the roof and did a thorough inspection; Greg even took a photo and emailed it to me for my records. While the cap isn't very pretty and is showing signs of rust, it is intact, has good pitch and is working well. Greg estimated it will need replacement in two to five years. Greg's was a second opinion. The first contractor told me the chase cover needed replacement immediately and estimated it would cost me $1865.00! I paid that outfit $45 just for the inspection; Greg did not charge anything at all. I highly recommend Prouty's Chimney Sweep!

Mr. Prouty was wonderful! We had purchased our home at the end of October. It has two wood stoves and we did not want to use them until the chimney could be inspected/cleaned. He came in inspected, no need to clean as they were already clean, confirmed the woodstoves were in excellent shape and were good quality and even gave pointers on how best to work the stoves. He also offered to answer any questions we may have after we started using the stoves. We will be using him again when it becomes a bit warmer to have the crown replaced on the chimney. Highly recommend Mr. Prouty and his company.

On the initial phone call, Greg explained in detail what all he would do based on what we wanted. We scheduled an appointment and they showed up when promised. They inspected the chimney and determined it definitely needed cleaning which took about an hour. They protected the carpets and tiles and left everything exactly as they found it. They also inspected outside to check for cracks, etc. They were very friendly and professional. We will use them again!

Greg Prouty is a great guy. He explained in great detail how things will be done and completed the job on time and with no problems. Wished that we new about him a couple of years ago when we had to go through a more complicated issue with our chimney and run into a lot of trouble with another company. Highly recommended.

Since the time of my last report, I have since been contacted by Prouty's. The nonresponse to my original e-mail was a result of "technology" and no reflection on the company. Although I have decided to go with another contractor, I would recommend and recontact Prouty's for future chimney repairs.

I had contacted a total of 12 companies to get estimates for the work. Of the people that I contacted Greg from Prouty's Chimney Sweep was the most honest and best price for the work that had to be completed. When I originally called him it had gone to voicemail and he called me back immediately. He explained to me that he had a top closing damper that he could install with a life time warranty. He also mentioned the pros and cons of the model he was selling and the one that others were selling. He took the time to explained the differences of the dampers that were on the market. He had me make my own decision based on the information that he was giving me. I appreciated being fully informed. I had originally scheduled Greg Decemeber 5th, but I had to reschedule the original date of work because of floors that had been laid. Greg and a helper ended up coming out on December 28th. He laid out canvas as to not disturb the floors. He was very respectful of my property. He swept the chimney and then installed the damper. He showed me how to work the damper and made sure that I was comfortable using it before he took any payment. I asked him about a small door that was on the floor of the chimney. He explained to me that this was a flu that people use to shovel the ash down. He warned against using it because of fires that could occur. He was knowledgeable, helpful, and worked quickly. He was vey unobtrusive during the whole process.

This is a great company! My initial phone call was returned promptly and I was able to schedule an appointment when I needed it. Mr. Prouty showed up exactly when promised. He and his helper both put shoe protectors on when walking in the house. Both chimneys were inspected and one was cleaned. The one that wasn't cleaned was seven years old and had never been cleaned. I told Mr. Prouty this and he could have easily told me that it needed to be cleaned but he did not. I really appreciated his honesty. The other chimney really needed to be cleaned, however, and the amount of time that was spent cleaning it made me feel like it really must have been pristine inside when they were done. There was absolutely no sign in the house when the job was completed to indicate that they had even been there. I'll use this company again, that's for sure.

On time. Explained what they were going to do. Inspection included pictures later used to explain future needed repairs. Repaired a vent - pointing out how it was originally installed incorrectly. Careful to protect carpet when cleaning. After clean up couldn't tell they had been there. Just a great job.

We asked Prouty's and three other chimney repair companies to provide estimates for cleaning our chimney and rebuilding our crown, and to provide advice on whether a new flue lining was necessary. Greg Prouty was punctual, professional, easy to understand and very good about not trying to sell us products we didn't need (unlike the other companies). The work was excellent and he was very careful about keeping everything clean. I strongly recommend him, either for simple chimney cleaning or for any sort of chimney repair.

Greg was very proffessional and timely. He cleaned my chimney and didn't leave a trace that he was here except for the chimney cap I would HIGHLY recommend Greg and Prouty's Chimney Sweep to everyone!!!.

He was excellent. His professionalism was wonderful, and I was very pleased with his responsiveness. His work was clean; he put down protective covering on top of my carpets. The price was reasonable. I would rate him highly and would not hesitate to use him again.

Greg Prouty did a wonderful job with the repair and it was not as expensive as I thought it was going to be. He was prompt, thorough, and honest in his assessment as to what would bring the chimney up to code. Despite the fact that two trips out to my house were required due to weather, he did not add the travel time or gas cost to the estimate. I will be using his services at our new house and can highly recommend him to anyone who needs a chimney specialist.

Fantastic experience. My call was answered immediately by an actual person I might add who was friendly and helpful. A date was promptly set for them to come out and look at my chimney and provide an estimate. They came out on the scheduled date and time and met with me first to discuss the issue (water leaking into my chimney box inside the house). They were very knowledgeable and patient while discussing the issues. The did an excellent job answering my questions. After inspecting my chimney, they provided a written estimate and explained in detail what the issues were that were causing the water leaks. I was most impressed by the photos they took of my chimney so they could actually show me where the problems were and what they looked like. It was much easier to understand with the photos. We scheduled the repair date and once again they were prompt and courteous. They were thorough in completing the work and provided "after" photos to show me how the repairs actually looked. Very impressive! I was also amazed by how clean they were. They put down drop clothes everywhere to ensure nothing was stained or soiled. Not only did they do this inside my house, they also laid tarps down in the street when they were mixing concrete, etc. to ensure nothing was left behind in the street or in my yard. The repairs were completed and they once again took the time to answer my final questions and review the warranty. What great guys! I would recommend this company to everyone and I would use them again.

Service was quick and professional. The cap needed to be ordered but we did not need to be home when it was installed.

Over the last few months, I have had several people in my home doing work. Some you trust, some not so much. Greg is a true professional in every sense of the word, and will tell you honestly what you need. I am still waiting for my GC's chimney sweep to send me the pictures of my "terribly defective" chimney and original damper. They even warned me not to light fires in the chimney until I had the suggested work done. On the other hand, Greg sent me pictures right away, and told me honestly that the chimney needed some work, but not to the extent that I was originally told by my general contractor and his chimney sweep of choice. Greg also said that I could light fires in my chimney safely, which, after a long and troubled renovation, is exactly what I wanted to hear! If you really want an honest and professional opinion, call Prouty's. I have no doubt that the damper replacement will be top notch, and that the work and maintenance that we do in the spring and going forward will be excellent!

Greg is very professional. He is educated and a good businessman in that he understands that excellent work at a fair price will be the best way to do business. You can trust he will be clean and neat in your home and that the job will be done right!

At first I was a little apprehensive to schedule our chimney cleaning the same day as our carpet cleaning but after talking to Greg on the phone he explained that it was not an issue and that he personally guaranteed there would be no mess. I was skeptical but after they left there was no sign they were ever here. Greg And Kenny were very clean and professional and by the number of bags of soot they pulled out of my fireplace I knew my cleaning was way overdue. After the cleaning was done, taking a little over an hour, Greg sat down with me to explain the inspection and what I should be doing going forward. Needless to say I will be scheduling cleanings more often. I would highly recommend Prouty's Chimney Sweep to anyone and I wii be using them for many years to come.

I can't rave enough about Prouty's Chimney Sweep! Not only is he very competitively priced, but he is extremely professional and really cares about his work. Greg, the friendly owner of Prouty's Chimney Sweep, has taken care of my chimney needs for several years. He installed a 3 story triple wall stainless steel chimney on my home and also installed a wood fired furnace for us. He has been nothing but a pleasure to work with and now, even several years after the chimney's installation, everything still looks like new and functions perfectly. During this last inspection, I had Greg install a lock top damper on my chimney at his suggestion. Bees had been making a nest inside my chimney during the summer months but with this new lock top, I should be able to keep them out next year! Installation of this cap meant that Greg had to climb up 3 stories. But the professional that he is, he performed the task without damaging a thing on my roof. No gutter damage and no damage to my shingles which is always a concern when someone is on the roof. Next Greg treated my chimney for glazed creosote after showing me picutres and evidence of the problem that I am experiencing. It seems that I was running my fires too low, but after a friendly conversation with Greg, I feel much more confident that I know how to avoid the problem in the future. I would recommend Prouty's Chimney Sweep to anyone that needs help with their chimney, fireplace, pellet stove, or wood stove.

We first met Greg in April 2010 when we were looking for someone to fix some issues with the chimney at our old townhouse that came up during the home inspection. We had several companies come out and give us estimates, but Greg was the most professional. He did a thorough inspection, gave us a written estimate, and even provided pictures of the area of work (on the roof of our three story townhouse - some companies didn't even go up to look before giving an estimate!). We had a limited timeframe before closing, and Greg promised to have the part in and the work completed on time. It was raining the day of installation, but Greg completed the work as scheduled. We are thankful that he was able to complete the job even under dangerous conditions - three stories up in the rain, and we were able to meet our closing date. Our new home also required attention, and we once again called upon Prouty's Chimney Sweep. The former owners had heated the home with a woodburning stove insert, but did not have any cap on the chimney. It was also apparent from the odor and condition of the fireplace that they hadn't taken care of proper cleaning. Greg completed a lot of work for us including: installation of a lock-top damper on the top of the chimney to prevent drafts and keep out stray animals (we had a family of chimney swiffs this summer before the work was completed); a complete cleaning of the chimney that resulted in the removal of over 30 pounds of ash; and removal of the woodburning stove insert. He also recommended some ways for us to help clear up the severe creosote build-up in the chimney, which will require some additional attention from him in the future, and a local business to purchase much needed fireplace doors. Overall, Greg was an absolute professional who provided clear information and estimates and completed the required work in an extremely professional manner. We would highly recommend him and plan on having him come out again in the spring to sweep our chimney again.
