Service went well. Arrived when they said they would and did the job quickly and efficiently. No mess, no headache. They inspected the chimney inside and out, and recommended some repairs to the top cap. No hard sell. Their price for the repair is competitive (slightly high) and we will be calling them back.

The whole experience was great. They were very informative and fast. I expected that even though nothing needed to be done I would still be charged a bit more than just the inspection, but I wasn't. We will be using them again this coming fall.

Everything went absolutely perfectly. I called Prouty's on 2/13 to ask if they could come out the same day to replace the chimney cap and they said yes. They also said we didn't need to be home and they would just leave the bill at the door. This is after having phoned another company the day before, having them say yes and then call to say they couldn't do it after all. Rain was coming so I needed it done ASAP. I truly appreciated the fact that Prouty kept their word, finished the work prior to the start of the pending rain, and was so accommodating about not needing to have someone home. I am definitely calling them to schedule a full chimney sweep and will recommend them to anyone who asks.

The company came and performed the chimney sweep of my wood stove insert. We indicated that we get smoke in the fireplace in the basement and they suggested installing an exterior damper. We had a chimney cap but that wasn't sufficient to stop the downdraft. I looked it up and agreed that would be a great option to stop the smoke, cold air and warm air in the summer entering through the current damper in the fireplace in the basement.

Two individuals arrived at my house and proceeded to evaluate a leak problem with the chimney. I was not too impressed with their effort to make a proper outside evaluation they did not have the equipment needed to do a proper inspection which they should have knowing that an outside inspection was requested by me they seem to pass it off for a later inspection which at this time no one form this company has called me to discuss. Inside they had equipment issues. Finally they broke the fireplaceglass door by accident but it was replaced with no issues after the owner and I talked. Good points are they showed up on time and performed the job to the best of the abilities and cleaned up the work area well.

Excellent. The owner took my inquiry without delay; the crew was considerate, skilled, timely and thorough; and, the report was solid/fair/honest. My only outstanding issue would be that they still haven't given me follow-up advice, as promised; however, I think they had some problems with their email/website since the service was performed. Still, this is a professional outfit and I highly recommend them.

When I contacted this company, I learned that they did not service Marshall, VA. Rather than just sending me on my way, they told me what to look for in a chimney sweep and recommended a company in my area. Excellent customer service.

Overall the experience was great. All the work was completed within an hour. It was brought to my attention that the cement around the top of the chimney's was deteriorating. I received a quote to fix them in the spring time. I asked if they could be fixed now but the response was that it was too cold out for the cement to set properly. I was impressed that he explained this to me as I am sure other companies would have taken advantage of my ignorance and done the repair.

We were referred to Greg by coworkers, and he definitely provides quality work. He is friendly and courteous and takes the time to answer any and all questions that you may have about your chimney. We are new to home ownership and he was wonderful in answering all questions I had concerning the function of a chimney and in describing and explaining all of the work that needed to be done (he’ll even provide photos of the problem areas). When he provides the work estimate, there’s no pressure to hire him to do the work. His prices are very fair, his final work product was great, and I know we’ll certainly use him again in the future for cleanings and inspections. Good contractors can be hard to find so we're fortunate to have found Greg.

Greg and his team were very friendly and professional. He addressed all my questions and I appreciated his taking the time to explain the problem areas and demonstrate how to use the new damper.

We called this company after a bad experience with another one. These guys were professional, HONEST and very resonably priced. They did their job the way it supposed to be done. Will definitely use them again.

Greg was on time, professional but friendly; he covered the floors, figured out the catalyst on our wood stove & cleaned it, and was honest enough to say our basement chimney did not need cleaning (saving me $100). Although Angie's List says Frederick is in his service area, he is not... but he came anyway. Highly recommend and will continue to use Prouty's!

After several unacceptable experiences with contractors I decided I should try Angies List and am glad I did as after just one recommendation the value of the subscription paid for itself. The workmen were professional. punctual and respectful of our home. They did not over exagerate the the condition of our fireplaces nor did they try to sell me unneccessary products and services. The inspected a third chimney and informed me that it did not require any cleaning - when other companies woul have done so. I've placed Prouty's in my address book and will call upon them again.

I wasn't there when they performed the work. My brother was there and he told me that they did a good job. I don't see any evidence of them being in my home, which is what I expected. From my point of view everything went as I expected and very smooth. He showed up at the scheduled time and performed the work that we spoke about and left before I got home from work.

They were neat, methodical, friendly, thorough. They took care in their work and answered many questions. Our chimney required a 60 foot ladder which they did not have. They were able to clean the chimney through our fireplace opening, which btw has a pellet stove insert. This was no easy task. They recommended fireproof insullation around the dampler in the fireplace to keep the heat in our house. We had them take care of this a couple of days later. I highly recommend this company for good service.

We chose Prouty's because the quote was reasonable and the owner seemed professional and knowledgeable. I can't say the same about some chimney sweeps we've used in the past. Two of the companies that gave us a quote said that we needed our chimney cleaned, but Greg from Prouty's said that it did not need cleaning. Based on our knowledge, it seemed that Greg's assessment was more honest. He and a colleague arrived on schedule rebuilt the crown. He returned several days later to take off the wood mold and install the chimney cap. The only hiccup was that he did not have the Lyemance energy -saving external damper we wanted with him. He suggested we could save money by ordering it online and he would come back to install it. Once we got the damper there was a schedule mix up where Greg listened to part of a voice message we left and mistakenly thought we wanted to reschedule. Once he realized the error he apologized. He came and installed the damper a week later. All of the work appears to have been done correctly. We have three fireplaces and a high-efficiency wood stove insert in one of them. We burn a lot of wood and keeping our chimney maintained is very important to us. We believe we have found in Prouty's an honest, reliable company that we can trust to do excellent work. We plan to use them exclusively going forward.

We had Prouty's out to our home to install a up-top damper. They were both on time, incredibly professional and even cleaned up when I indicated it was unnecessary. The cost was spot-on and We look forward to having them back out when it's time to clean!

They are an excellent company. I had received estimates to install a new liner in my chimney. Proutys inspected and advised this was not necessary. They are very punctual, honest and their work quality is excellent. They are great to deal with. I would recommend them to everyone.

One of our inspection items on the sale of our townhome was the cleaning and inspection of our fireplace, which is a very common inspection item. Greg responded immediately to our request and scheduled the work about a week after we contacted him. He was very punctual for the appointment. The service was great as was the price!

They did a great job. They are polite, helpful, and went above and beyond to help us out.

Greg gave a free inspection of our two fireplaces and single chimney in November 2011 and recommended a new chimney cap, caulking sides and flashing, and new waterproofing of the exterior. He took photos of the cracked crown and water-soaked bricks to show us. As we were still new owners here, we talked to him about the two gas fireplaces (found out that one emits carbon monoxide) and what we would need to do if we changed one or both to wood burning. He was extremely patient with all our questions and concerns. He seems very knowledgeable and is pleasant to speak with. Since the work could not be done with low temperatures, we made an appointment for him to return in May. On the actual work day, Greg arrived in the morning with his team as expected. They cleaned out the old crown and laid down a new one and covered it due to incoming rain. Because of the weather, Greg had to stop early and return the following week (when the rain let up) to complete the caulking and water proofing. He again took photos, this time of the new crown. Both days, the work areas were cleaned of debris before they left. Greg and the other two men I met were all courteous and professional and I felt comfortable having them on my property. We will use them as our chimney sweep when we need that service and have them back when the 10 year warranty on the water proofing expires. We highly recommend this company.

I was very impressed with the level of detail, to include pictures, Greg provided during his site survey. After discussing the project with him, he provided a written estimate which I executed on the spot. I was expecting many thousands of dollars for the repair - and was very happy when the pricing provided wasn't anywhere near that - to include 2 full days of work on fixing the crown, vent cap, water proofing the brick AND providing a 10 year warranty on the work. I'll follow up in June once Greg and his team completes the work. Thus far, I am very impressed! ** Update* Due to multiple days of rain the project was delayed a bit - no issue though. The work performed was top notch and my chimney no longer leaks.
