The work progressed in steps. First, the old deck was removed and replaced with terraces. The yard was dozed to clear small brush but no significant grading was needed. Holes were dug and various plants, trees and shrubs were placed in the ground. Grow then created the side path and a small herb garden wall using stacking stones. Next, the 6 ft fence was installed (on the property line) and finally the sprinkler system was installed. After the fence, sprinkler system and lighting work was completed (3 months later), Grow returned and created the grassy area by installing sod grass. They also re-built the small herb garden wall to make it more secure and corrected some minor problems with the side path and drainage. They also placed some pavers next to the kitchen at fence gate entrance. There was some additional cost involved with this and because we'd requested enlargement of the rear terrace from 10ft to 12ft circular. But Grow covered the cost of the pergola at no cost to us. A few months later, after several plants had died, Grow returned and replace all of them along with adding some additional ground cover, all at no cost to us. I will not discuss here some of the issues that arose with the fence and lighting that needed to be corrected because they were not within Grow's scope of contract. On top of various contracted work described above, I have to mention that there were a few additional projects that we needed to complete the entire concept. These included the addition of a Japanese shed, a separate Japanese wood shed, and a paver path for the lawnmower (e.g., ground stones may look nice artistically, but there's nothing practical about trying to bounce a lawnmower over them to get from the shed to the grass). The bottom line is, once you sign up to design a complete landscape job, it's a valuable investment, and you need to go "all in". Grow provided the encouragement, the concept and the design. It far exceeded our expectations and their willingness to discuss various options ultimately lead us to excellent results that will last a lifetime. They absolutely went the extra mile with us and exceeded our expectations in every way.
Description of Work: This is my 3rd attempt to enter information here and the screen keeps losing my entries. This is not fair to Grow, but I'll try to do them justice in as short a write up given the risk that I'll lose information once again. We invited Grow in to discuss renovating our back and side yards and converting it to an Oriental look. After seeing their portfolio of work and sharing ideas, we were impressed and turned them on to do an artist depictiion of their design ($600). Several weeks later, they returned with a design "to die for". We agreed and signed a contract for their part of the design. The scope of their work included removing a lower deck and replacing it with a stone 2-level terrace with large flagstone and cement between the stones, creating a side path and creating the entire Oriental back yard with bolders, plantings and pergola. The lower terrace was installed first, using flagstone surrounded by several huge bolders for effect. A 6 ft bridge was purchased and assembled to provide access from the terrace to the grassy area. A 2nd upper back yard terrace was installed over what previously had been a gradually sloping hill, and the foundation for this upper terrace foundation was created using concrete jack-hammered out of the fround from what was a pervious lower deck. The upper terrace and lower terrace were joined together with matching flagstone steps. An matching 12ft circular remote terrace was added to the far back and a pergola was installed ... nice touch. I can't go into all the details of the landscaping, except to say that the grass areas is in the shape of a kidney that lies between the terrace next to the house and the far back terrace where the pergola is located. As a border between the grass and the landcape Grow used a type of green ground cover called Mazus, which gives the grass a border. The landscape consist of a number of huge bolders, bushes. trees and various plantings. The plants included Mugho pines, Japanese Black Pines, espalier, bamboo, maple, aucuba and so on. Part of the Grow design also included a rock garden that led from the rear terrace/pergola towards the lower part of the yard. The rock garden path adds to the overall visual effect of an Oriental garden, but it has no practical value (e.g., it's not a solution to drainage). The design also includes a sloping walk with steps along one side of the house, stretching from the kitchen on the upper side all the way down a path to the back yard, where it joins up with the backyard upper terrace. On the upper side, just outside the kitchen, this path consisted of small, flat stones separated by Mazus. To one side of the upper path, a small stacking stone wall was created for an herb garden. Proceeding down from the herb garden, the path goes through 3 level of steps, and between the steps there were flat stones separated by a fine grained gravel. The steps themselves are made of concrete. In addition to the landscaping work by Grow, we had an enclosed Red Oak fence installed with 2 gates, an underground 12-station sprinkler system and lighting system installed. Paulo (of Grow) proposed two contactors for these projects and more or less synchronized the work, even though it was not within his scope. According to Paulo, Grow now has integrated all of these components into their overall work proposals, which will not only provide a more realistic cost estimate of the total job to folks like us but will put the responsibility on Grow to integrate all these components of work.

We couldn't have been happier with our decision to hire Grow Landscapes for our patio installation. The owner, Paulo, was very timely and professional from our first meeting through the completion of the project. He was always available to answer any questions/concerns we had and his entire staff was hard-working and very respectful of our property. Not only did the price beat out estimates quoted to us by other competitive landscaping companies, but the quality of work was exceptional and was completed in a timely manner. Paulo was very knowledgeable in guiding us towards the best design plan for our needs and offered additional suggestions that we otherwise would never have thought of. Overall, we are thrilled with the final product and would not hesitate to use Grow Landscapes again in the future.
Description of Work: My husband and I hired Grow Landscapes to redesign our backyard patio. The job included demolition of the existing concrete/brick patio and the design/installation of a brand new paver-style patio.

Grow Landscapes provided a detailed landscape design, worked with us to revise and refine it further, and then implemented the plan. They were extremely easy to work with and professional- and took care to transplant many of our existing plants. They also followed up several times to check on the plantings. We were so impressed with the work that we hired them to continue with our on-going lawn care.
Description of Work: Landscape design plan and implementation; lawn care.
