I had purchased a combination tank to bowl and toilet flush valve replacement kit. The price quoted was $145 for the replacement. Andy said the toilet leak didn't actually need the tank to bowl replacement I had purchased in the combo kit but since he had to remove the tank to replace the flush valve, he would also replace the tank to bowl piece. Unfortunately, when he removed the tank, he discovered a huge chunk had somehow broken off the toilet base and the whole toilet needed to be replaced. That was a tremendous surprise! He went to Home Depot and got a nice replacement for $168. The total cost with a 15% discount was $400. We are very happy with out new toilet and pleased with the quick service!

Water was running continuously through the hot water heater and getting dumped outdoors. Fortunately not on the floor. It appears that the tank had ruptured but the outer casing was keeping the water from running onto the floor. At least not very much. A plumber highly rated on Angie's list was called into estimate the cost. We were told that in addition to the water heater itself the water heater shutoff and main shutoff were both broken. Estimated cost to install a new 50 gallon water heater was $1750 and to repair the shutoff would be an additional $500. Having replaced water heaters recently in another city I felt that the cost was very high. My wife did some internet research finding out the retail and wholesale prices of hot water heaters and a list of area plumbers with good reviews online. She then called the plumbers to ask for over the phone estimates. The average price estimate they offered was around $1400 for the work. My wife liked one who said it could be done for around $1200. The weather was miserable. The plumber was unable to even get out of his driveway for about an hour after we called. Once he did get out, he came right over and took at look. Turns out the Main valve was stuck not broken so the cost started to go down. My Wife requested a good quality hot water heater by name and model. The Plumber found one he could pick up in Manassas and went off to get the hot water heater. Once he got back it took about an hour to replace the old one with the new one. Our only complaint is that he left a small mess behind. That is why the B for professionalism. I would recommend him for any plumbing job. He is responsive and willing to work with my wife meeting her demands. That is an accomplishment in itself.
