Our townhouse deck was falling apart really bad. We thought we could let it go one more year, but after one particular day it was clear we needed something a lot sooner. We really didn't have a big budget and our HOA was pretty restrictive on the type of deck and size. We reached out to a few deck companies listed high here on Angie's List. My husband was home for the Atlantic Deck crew and told me how responsive they were, and how they did a really good comprehensive evaluation. They noted that our posts were rotted bad underneath the soil, something another deck estimate company did not catch. The price and the quote they offered fit out budget and they provided us with plans to submit to the HOA. Once we got the HOA approval, Atlantic Deck was at our house in no time at all. I gave them super kudos because we have a really nasty neighbor next to us, who is also an end unit, and Atlantic Deck was very graceful with her and decided to go the long way around the townhouse row, rather than the short way in order to avoid our horrid neighbor. We let the crew park their tools trailer in our driveway for a week. They came, tore down the entire deck in no time flat and dug up the old posts. We received an email every single night with the progress that was happened with our deck. I want to say it was completed well ahead of schedule and we were able to use our new deck within a week. We were very happy we chose Atlantic Deck and incredibly surprised at the great communication the Project Manager and his crew had with us. We will definitely use them again for the stain and seal after our deck settles in!

Their project manager came by frequently, and e-mailed us daily with details on progress and work to be done the next day. There was always a member of the crew that spoke good English. There was one crew for all stages of the porch, and a second for the patio. We incorporated the Screen-Eze screening system (for ease of replacement) and PVC cladding for the posts. They listened and got it right. We would definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Atlantic built a screened-in porch and brick patio. We got multiple estimates. Atlantic was the only contractor that listened carefully and submitted a detailed estimate/design that complied with our design ideas. They made a number of excellent suggestions that we incorporated.

The Atlantic Deck team is fantastic. They were quick to respond to my Angie's list message and treated me like a VIP the entire time! They had a top notch project managers, a respectful crew, and a non-aggressive, smart sales lead. Price was about the same as some other estimates, but they were on site working within days of finalizing a contract with me which sealed the deal! I'd highly recommend them to everyone. I hope to work them again for future projects. Thank you for an awesome experience and beautiful deck!

I contacted several deck builders, but Atlantic Deck Company seemed the most knowledgable about the different materials and did not try to add other items not asked for. Kris Romano the project was always responsive, when contacting him. We had some delays because of the HOA approval. We missed the monthly approval meeting and had to wait an additional month before we could schedule the ithe deck. Kris recommended the Fiberon decking and it looks great.

Atlantic Deck Co. got it done in the time that I needed. They're decking people were fantastic. Their concrete people sucked. They were two different crews. The decking people did good work. They were here and they were quiet. We had some issues with the concrete since they poured it. Once they got my payment, I never got a follow-up or a check-up or "Hey, how's things going? Do you have any concerns?" I didn't hear anything. Their attitude was just sort of, "That's the way it is." If you pour concrete, you want to pour the right color. And it's not the right color. That was an issue and incurred more costs, as we got along. The daily communication was good. Their updates were good. They got their final check from me and I haven't heard boo from them since. I would call them for an estimate if I needed to.

We are glad to hear you are so pleased with the deck. We do have different crews for decks and for patios, because each crew is specialized in that area. We did verify that the color used in the stamped concrete was the color selected by the home owner, however, when concrete is poured it is wet and the shade will appear darker because of the moisture. Concrete will take up to a year to fully cure and the color will lighten. This particular yard was very damp and this was the reason they wanted a concrete patio to make the space usable. Because of the existing wet conditions, the concrete will take even longer to fully cure. When she brought her concern to our attention, we explained the curing process and then offered to add a lighter color at no cost if she desired. She declined. The concrete is currently 4 months old and will need time to cure to reach its final shade, especially in the existing conditions. We only ask for final payment "upon customer satisfaction" and as detailed in the building contract, that is the only requirement for final payment to be made. As for any extra cost, we work on a fixed priced contract and the only additional costs are directly related to customer changes. We take great pride in our products and services. We are always available for questions or concerns and address them in a professional timely manner.

Although there were a few miscommunications here and there, as they always are, Atlantic Deck was fabulous about working with us and making sure everything was done right and with a high level of craftsmanship. They kept us updated daily through emails, the supervisor visited the work site often to make sure the project was on target and keeping to the timeline. This was not a standard build. The removal of the window and installation of the doors was much more complex than any of us had imagined. But they remained calm and patient and came up with a creative way through a difficult issue. The result is a gorgeous addition to our home that is the envy of our neighbors. We've entertained out there, read, relaxed and enjoyed our deck so much more with this addition. We highly recommend them and commend them for a phenomenally well done job.
Description of Work: We built a screened in porch with an A frame roof on an existing deck. It involved building a cricket roof and we also had them remove a large picture window from our family room and replaced it with a french door and transom entrance to the porch.

They gave us a fair price but I was not that thrilled. The person I spoke with tried to make me give him my budget numbers over the phone; which I did not like at all. Their quote was fair and I would not discourage somebody from going with them based on my experience with them but, for my personal style, I did not like that. They had the lowest base price but I got discounts from another company, which resulted in a better final price. I did not pursue this company because I did not feel real warm and fuzzy about it. They showed up and were on time.

We provide free estimates for qualified customers. We do ask for a general budget range (5-10k) depending on the scope of the project, because this helps us provide our customers with a quote that meets their needs. With all of the material options available to us today, there are huge swings in cost. It serves neither party to provide a 30k quote if the homowner budget is 10k. We realize that there is alot of competion out there and to use this information to provide the highest possible quote, we would simply lose the bid to a competitior.

Description of Work: Requested a quote for screened porch/deck combo along with interior work and a garage addition. Zeth was very courteous and professional and asked very good questions. He was timely and seemed very experienced. We received our porch/deck quote but after weighing other companies and their product/quotes, we selected a different vendor. What stood out good about them is that we have clear communication. Seth was the guy that dealt with the design. From the beginning, he is going back and forth with the design taking ideas making sure that what I wanted was doable and everything, which was great. They have a foreman who comes by regularly whose name is Blake. He is very good, he emails me almost once a day just saying "here is how we are doing it and here is what we expect to do the next day" and I really appreciate that. He was very easy to contact when I had questions. I either send a text or email and I got a response within 30 minutes from the text. I have one guy who is the lead doing the actual physical labor named Robert and he has been fantastic. He is super polite and does great quality job. I would come out several times and ask things and he will stop and explain it to me so communication has been fabulous. I had a couple of things that were minor as far as needing to be changed but they were things I really wanted to be changed and they did it. It is a great company and I am really pleased. Their price was significantly lower than the two other contractors that I contacted. I am definitely going to contact them when we get ready to do the remodeling on our basement. They are very responsive. When they ran into something that needed to be changed, they got with me saying "here is the problem, here is our solution. Is this okay with you?" That kind of communication is very important to me. I would recommend them to anybody.
Description of Work: Atlantic Deck Company have been working on our house for a couple of weeks putting in a whole new deck and a patio underneath it for me. The deck is 98% complete and are now doing minor touch-ups.
We contracted with Atlantic Deck Co. to build a large second-story deck supported by a 3-1/2 foot high concrete and stone floodproofing wall. The deck also serves as a roof to a screened-in area enclosed by the flood wall. After two house floods and no action by our county government to limit the size of "ponding areas" created on our property during rainstorms, we had accepted the necessity of a wall; however we were apprehensive about how liveable we could make the lower area contained by it. Chris Mallonee at Atlantic Deck proposed an excellent design that keeps the lower area bright and attractive as well as dry and accessible from the back yard. We had interviewed several contractors for the work and came away from that process feeling sure that Atlantic Deck had put the most thought into the project and was the most capable of handling both the masonry and carpentry parts of the job equally well. The actual contracting was easy. We'd had a good idea of what we wanted, but adopted several of Chris' suggestions with respect to arrangement and finishing. The prices were fair and what was to be delivered was made very clear. One of the most impressive things in working with Atlantic Deck was how quickly and clearly the prices of changes could be estimated and separated. We knew going in that we could not afford to do everything we wanted, but Chris planned the project so as to enable any adding on in the future to be done with a minimum of rework. Additionally, once excavation began the county demanded changes in the size of the foundation (even after having approved the permit), and I give Atlantic Deck all the credit for figuring out how to keep the project going without delay or excessive cost. The craftsmanship of the construction itself was impressive. Mike Roberts was in charge of the concrete wall construction. As I said, we'd been apprehensive about whether the flood wall would look more like a fortification rather than a living space. I should not have worried. He made it look great and it has become a very comfortable part of our house. He made rapid progress and by the time it was partially complete we knew the rest of the project would go well. Then Chris' crew took over to build the deck. Armando was the lead carpenter. He was meticulous in his attention to detail and relentless about completing the work (he even worked weekends and over Thanksgiving, which we certainly did not ask that he do). Overall, he did a really beautiful job. Both crews showed up like clockwork at the house, every day with a brief exception for Hurricane Sandy. They knew exactly what needed to be done and it was gratifying to see how much progress was made day after day. Considering the scope of the construction (we probably enlarged our living space by 1/3 the size of the house), they were able to keep the yard clean and orderly, and everyone was very pleasant. Altogether the project was worth every penny, is built to last and looks even better than we had hoped. My experience with Atlantic Deck Co. was great, start to finish. I won't hesitate to use them again and recommend them to anyone for any type of home construction work.

Owner came out for an estimate promptly--even while we were still dealing with the effects of the Derecho. Estimate was fair--we had a lower estimate, but from someone who was a general handyman and did not do that work on a regular basis. We had a higher estimate too. Atlantic's owner, Chris Mallonee, came out to the house in mid-September to make a competitive estimate. He quickly sized up the job, included several good ideas as he discussed what we wanted, and then submitted a written estimate and drawing in less than two days. We selected Atlantic for the job, based upon his professionalism, ideas, and competitive price. The work was started per his quoted schedule (3 weeks later), and was completed within his quoted performance period, by mid November. His crew showed up on time each scheduled workday, and the lead carpenter was a very careful and skilled man. Chris is a consistently reliable communicator, and stayed in touch via text and email regularly. He visited the site at key times and when he wasn't in town, left a competent a project manager in charge. At a few times, the work was adjusted as minor issues were resolved, after discussions w/ Chris, and the work adjusted accordingly. There was absolutely no upselling or unanticipated price "adjusting". The punch list was retired in a timely and professional manner. We appreciate the quality of the work and the way Atlantic managed the quote, the work, and Chris's quick and responsive communications. Atlantic Deck manages the job precisely per their contractual and oral technical and financial commitment, and expects the same from the customer. A very professional and satisfying company to do business with.
Description of Work: Atlantic replaced and extended our deck, including a subplatform for a hot tub, electrical modifications and a TREX surface. The finished deck was approximately 18'x18', with a small stair access.. They also included deck lighting, and managed the electrical subcontractor who installed a 60 amp 220v line and breaker box.

We solicited designs and bids from three contractors to provide a ?deck? in the backyard to complement a new ground-water drainage system. As our first priority, we told the contractors the deck should not impede the flow of rain water from our neighbors? yards and from a down-sloping hillside from reaching two new catch basins in our yard. (Previously, without the catch basins, our yard sometimes became a lake in heavy rains because of the water flow from the neighbors? yards.) To meet this priority, Chris Mallonee of Atlantic Deck Co. (ADC) proposed the creative idea of building a wood patio instead of a deck so that 6? joists could be used instead of 8? joists as required with a deck, and so that the entire structure would rest on the ground instead of being anchored into the ground. This would allow rainwater to flow under the joists and reach the catch basins unimpeded. Also, the posts for the patio frame would rest on cinderblocks on the ground instead of requiring the substantial concrete footings of a deck. The other contractors proposed decks with 8? joists and concrete footings. Chris was very helpful during the bid evaluation, advising us on the best composite decking to use and quickly making a variety of small changes we requested. After we selected and contracted with ADC, they started and completed the work in a very timely manner. This required their coordination with the drainage company, which installed blue stone throughout the entire back yard to control water flow to the catch basins, installing the blue stone after the patio framing was complete but before the decking was applied. The ADC installation team worked together quickly and efficiently, drawing us into various hands-on decisions. For instance, they suggested and we accepted a screwed-down, easily removable 3? strip of decking along the townhome-patio edge so that future termite treatments of the outside wall could be performed easily. They also involved us in setting the exact location of the stairs and handrail. And they gave us the choice of the direction to run the herringbone pattern. We are very pleased with the appearance and quality of the team?s work. Finally, we found the ADC team to be highly responsible. When they found that they had unwittingly disturbed the ground preparation done by the drainage company, so that some of it had to be redone, they immediately assumed responsibility for the additional drainage work at no expense to us.
Description of Work: Installed a flat, on-grade, ground-level, 17.5’ x 11.5’ wood patio in our townhome's 22 ‘ x 13.5’ backyard, and built 3’ wide stairs with one handrail rising from the patio to the top of a 2’ high retaining wall. The patio and stair materials are Trex Transcend wood-textured composite decking with a supporting framework of ground-contact wood lumber. The decking is flush to the townhome and at floor level, but the patio is not attached to the home. The decking is in a herringbone pattern. Joists are spaced 12”. One corner of the patio is trimmed at 45 degrees to accommodate an existing small tree. Two flush “trapdoors” in the decking provide access to drainage catch basins beneath the patio. The Contractor provided a five-year workmanship and a six-month material warranty.

My husband and I were very pleased with the outcome. Chris Mallonee arrived to provide an estimate with pictures and samples of the materials to be used. He described our design options, made suggestions, and provided an estimate rather quickly. There were two teams that started within days of each other. One team worked exclusively on the deck while the other team worked on the pavers. Both jobs took about a week to complete, not including the delays due to rain.
