Thank you for your review. It was a pleasure to work with you and your wife on your porch and window design and install. We hope you have been able to get a lot of use out of it with the warm weather we had into December. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns in the future. Thank you. Chris Mallonee

Description of Work: We had a screened porch & deck built for our townhouse. The consultation and design process with Zeth was very easy. Our building team was fantastic. Bryant, our site manager, was great a communicating progress, next steps, and any issues that came up. The two builders, Tom and Ben, were very efficient and professional in their work. The worked on a Saturday to make up time that was lost due to weather to try to keep the project on schedule. One Saturday morning Tom even came over to put a tarp on the bare roof (the shingles had not been installed yet) since we were supposed to get a full morning of rain. We ran into some difficulties with the county, that were not Atlantic's fault, but they were very diligent in working to resolve the issue. I would highly recommend this company for a deck or screened porch project. They offer a great product at a very competitive price.

Description of Work: Our deck had been improperly built by the previous owner and needed to be replaced. Atlantic Deck gave a great first impression- they came out and gave us an estimate and appeared to know what they were doing. When we hit a snag with our HOA approving the project, Zeth volunteered to talk to them personally and got the project approved. He said that they would be able to start very soon and the project would take 3 business days. However, once we sent our deposit and signed the contract, we were told the project was "next" and would start "soon". A couple of weeks later, we got an email at night saying they would start the next day. As this is a rental property, this was not possible, since we had to give our tenants more than a few hours warning. They started the following day and it ended up taking 6 business days- twice as long as promised. Communication was poor. No one on the crew spoke English and the first time we ever heard from the project manager was the day before the construction finished. Finally, we got an email from the HOA stating that the crew had not picked up the trash, and left it in the common grassy area. When they finally picked it up, they did so at 11:30 at night. The deck itself looks ok, so far, but they will not stain it for us. We have to find another company to do so, or do it ourselves. Very disappointing experience, given the other positive reviews.

Response from Atlantic Deck & Home Renovation Inc
We take every review seriously and learn from every experience. We are sorry to hear this particular customer did not feel the communication was not up to par. However, we have a series of emails to and from this customer as well as the signed contract that tells a very different story. The contract was signed by the customer on 3/19/13 that indicated 3-4 week lead time and 5-7 business days for construction. We Contacted the customer on 3/21 indicating approx 2 weeks out for a tentative start date which was ahead of schedule. There were a few weather delays so we contacted the home owner on 4/8 letting them know that we intend to start on 4/10(still well within the contract time frame). The customer asked for an additional day to give their tenant plenty of notification, we agreed and adjusted the start date to 4/11. During all projects we give daily update emails to let our customers know exactly what was done and what to expect for the next day as well as potential weather delays, etc. Our project manager, Blake Sherman, visited the site daily and provided progress reports daily as well. We performed the final walk through with the customer and they did not bring up a single issue or punch list item and handed a check paid in full at the same time. It is not our practice to require payment at the walk through, although if the customer is happy we will gladly accept the payment. The project did take 6 days, but there was a rain day during the project that we inform the customer about and the contract terms were 5-7 business days. Where there are instances when we have to take down an old deck and we do not have room for a dumpster or a trailer to sit for 24 hrs, we have a 3rd party trash pickup company who will come in and collect the material in a short time frame. Our receipt from the pickup had a time of 9:150pm. We realize this is later than normal business hours and have asked that the removal company keep pickups before 8pm. We understand that one of the most important components of providing quality service and products is communication. It is simply false that no one on site could speak English. Myself nor any of the project managers speak anything other than English, so it is not feasible that we would have a crew that cannot speak English. We have a diverse company and having an accent should not exclude you of your right to work. Staining was not part of our contract with this customer. You do not stain pressure treated pine for approximately 6 months after construction to allow time for the wood to properly dry from the treatment process. We have a painter that we use for all of our painting and staining. We offered to give a quote or to provide the painters direct # since the work would be done several months down the road and to get the best price by cutting us out of the picture, the customer was happy to have this information as we could assure them of the quality of work and at a reduced rate. Because the homeowner gave the appearance of satisfaction when we were there for the final walk through and there were no emails or phone calls during the project indicating dissatisfaction this review came as a surprise. We immediately contacted the home owner to try and determine the breakdown in communication and to see what we could do to improve the current situation as well as any future performance. After a couple weeks we heard back from this customer, they were only interested in communicating via email. There has never been a question regarding quality of work and the project was completed well within the contract terms. Our best guess is that they were annoyed by getting an email form their HOA.

Description of Work: Atlantic was involve with all of our biddings. My wife and myself were taking on a big pation job and our crest was pretty high. We had a lot of issues going on so we had and idea what needs to be done but we could only tell whom ever was going to do the job what we are looking for. So really I did not think this was the right job for Atlantic. There is only one chance in this job and it was a lot of money in no way a small job. I think there price was really high.

We needed to rebuild a 12x18 deck including a stairway. I received several estimates and selected Atlantic Deck based on their price and reputation for quality work. The owner, Chris, was very easy to work with and answered my numerous questions. Chris also suggested several options for building the deck. He took care of all needed permits and while he did not perform the work himself, his crew was highly skilled, and Chris came by daily to oversee the work. Also, we liked the fact that Atlantic Deck had a milestone payment system based on the progress of the work, and receipt of needed county approvals.

Great experience. From initial meeting, it was obvious that Chris at Atlantic deck knew exactly what he was doing, and was easily able to accommodate my special requests. His crew took its time to make sure every detail was correct. (They didn't just quickly throw it up and leave as I've seen other vendors do.) The craftsmanship, quality, and response to questions was outstanding. Final product was far better than I could have imagined.

Chris Mallonee came out to view the backyard in order to give me an estimate for pouring a concrete patio and enclosing the patio with a board-on-board fence. He showed up exactly on time, was extremely professional and very pleasant. The work began shortly thereafter and was completed in a timely manner. They will be coming back in a few weeks to seal the fence, which cannot be done until the wood has had time to dry out. I am very pleased with the end results of the patio and fence. The whole experience with Chris and Atlantic Deck has been very positive and very professional.

Fantastic! Chris and his crew were on time for the appointments and work from the initial estimate through completion. He had originally told me that it would take 5 days to do the deck and pergola work and it took 2. They would have finished on the 1st day, but, it got dark. Rain delayed the paver work a little, but everything went very smoothly and all of the work was done on time. We even ran into an unforeseen condition that could have delayed the door installation. When the old french door was removed, it was not sealed properly and there was damage to the floorboards underneath from where water had gotten in. Chris and his team reviewed the damage and we came up with a solution. They had the materials to make the repair and the bad floorboards were replaced with pressure treated wood and they triple sealed the new door so that this kind of damage would not occur in the future with the new door.
Description of Work: We had our deck re-built, pergola and trellis added to the deck, ceiling fan installed on the pergola, replaced the patio doors, had a paver path installed from the back to the front of the house, had a ceiling fan installed on the front porch and new step risers installed on the front porch.

Chris and his team did a great job for us, despite day after day of rain and some unreasonable requests from Arlington County. Chris was at the site every day and was very easy to work with. He has some great suggestions on how to improve our design and was very open minded about our ideas. Prior to the start of the work, Chris stayed in contact with us regarding material delivery and the start date. The two gentlemen that worked on our deck were very professional and very hard workers. They arrived early each morning and worked until dark each day. I was very impressed and happy with the installation. They also did a terrific job of cleaning up the mess and hauling away all the trash. I would definitely call Atlantic Builders again.

It went extremely well and I am very pleased with the work. The lower deck was rotten, closed in with rails and only 1 foot from the ground so by opening up the entire decking area, including the Gazebo, Zeth, the man I worked with, and I came to a meeting of the minds by visualizing the same thing, an open area where one can step down into the garden from anywhere on the lower deck. Upper deck sits above the lower deck, giving the lower deck a nice dose of shade, while still retaining an open feel. Zeth added an above and below the rails privacy lattice when we realized the deck had too much view of the neighbors' patio and added a small railing to the one step down for my disabled sister. When I called Atlantic Deck, Zeth was on time, listened attentively and visualize my ideas dead on. He worked fast to get the project on paper in time for the HOA meeting, only to find out I had misread the date by one day. No matter, he was willing to wait another month. The work was done in one week and although the crew did not clean up as much as I would have liked, they were still very good and worked until darkness. The two decks are wonderful and I am happy I went with the composite. Zeth came a final time to pick up his check and made notes on two small changes. I looked and planned for this deck for one year and went through 15 estimates, all ranging from $8,000 to more then $35,000 and many a no show or never getting back to me. Atlantic Deck has a good solid business model and Zeth returned my calls or e-mailed me back promptly.
Description of Work: Remove rotted lower deck and gazebo deck and all rails. Install footings for upper deck. Install 12' X 20' lower deck and gazebo flooring with Evergrain composite decking, including a single step all around. Install benches aroung three sides of the Gazebo. No rails. Install evergrain composite deck on upper level 12' X 20' and privacy lattice on one side of deck.

Our initial meeting with Chris and Seth was within a day of our call to Atlantic. They listened to what we had planned and gave us the best quote of the three that we acquired. Best of all, they were willing to demolish and haul the old hot tub. They answered, "yes, we can do that" to everything we asked. The team was courteous, professional and hard working. The job was finished in four days and cleanup was efficient.
Description of Work: Demolished and hauled old decking, railing and hot-tub. Resurfaced existing deck (approximately 600 sq. ft.) with composite decking, railing and trim. Moved water spicket to side of deck.

Chris was very cooperative about the new design and what we wanted for materials. He made two initial quotes until we agreed on how the deck would be built and then he made a reasonable contract that saved us money as we didn't need the deck built immediately. The builders came to work on time every day and worked for about four days until completion. They were very courteous and helped me move things as required. They did a thorough clean-up when they finished.

Chris worked with us from start to finish. Unlike other contractors, he gave us a highly detailed estimate with no sales pressure. He provided detailed drawings and material pamphlets for the Home Owners Association. Construction started on the day we were told and his crew (no subcontractors) was polite and efficient. There was very little for us to complain about, and the few items were quickly fixed. We highly recommend Atlantic Deck for their quality and willingness to work with you.
Description of Work: We had a 15 year old two-level deck removed and replaced with composite materials and added a screened in porch on the second level with a large shed underneath. The under-deck area was screened off and a built-in bench added to the lower deck.
