BUYER BEWARE. We hired Woodbutchers LLC in March2017. I fired them in July 2017 after being chasing them to get the job done as they promised. What looks good in my kitchen/first floor is what they didn't do. They had to subcontract pros to redo my ceiling, tile, dry walls and painting because what they did was the job of an amateur not a professional. As a homeowner I can do a better job. Bad experience overall. Today 01-21-2018 after 6 months I noticed that all cabinet doors that they built are cracked because they used green wood that was not ready to be used.
Description of Work: Kichen/ fist floor renovation.

This six week job turned into a 3 month horror show. The only thing done to standard was work completed by subcontractors and they had to hire subcontractors redo drywall work, painting, and my kitchen back splash, which was totally ripped out and reinstalled. They also had to refinish all of the cabinet doors that they painted. Over the three month period they consistently over promised and under delivered. I counted 11 instances in writing where they promised completion of some element of the project and failed to deliver (either contractually, email or text). If they themselves were in my house more than 80 hours over the three month project I'd be surprised. Statements like "we will be there tomorrow" and "we only need a couple of days to complete the project" were statements that could not be counted on. The first phase of the job was to open the space between my living and dining room by installing a beam. Unfortunately they ordered the wrong beam, and oversight that cost me $2,000 and two weeks where absolutely nothing was accomplished. My family went on vacation on the 24th of June, a date that we stated was a must in terms of completion. It was an important date to us, but it apparently was not an important date for Woodbutchers. The week prior to our vacation, the owner stated he needed two weeks to complete the project, which meant he should have been done prior to our return. When we returned three weeks after this promise he wasn't close to being done and my wife and I developed a 23 items punch list that the agreed to tackle. To make a long story short, three weeks later, at 8:15 at night (a Friday night I might add), on the 28th of July, three weeks after Woodbutchers stated they needed two weeks to complete the project, I fired them and had them leave my home. I spent the following two days ripping out and redoing trim, installing hardware to kitchen cabinets and installing shoe molding they failed to install. It should be noted, that I also personally rebuilt and installed my fireplace mantle after Woodbuthchers attempted to pass off a design we didn't agree on as the final product and then failed to act in a timely manner to fix the issue. I figured I would at least get my entertainment space back after 2.5 months by taking matters into my own hands. Perhaps most disturbing is the lack of professional ethics and a customer service focus. They have no skill (except for the owner who is a pretty good carpenter), yet they treat every comment defensively, give bad counsel and advise, pass off shoddy work as complete, and never deliver what they promise. They will also attempt to pass off the costs of faulty planning and coordination to the consumer, something they were successful in doing after they realized they ordered the wrong beam, but something I refused to accept when they tried to charge me $500 more for my granite because they estimated wrong. In closing I'd say that this is a young company that has much to learn. Kevin Murphy is a good carpenter, but that is where this company's skills end. Perhaps over time they will learn how to plan and deliver complicated projects on time and on budget. Perhaps over time they will also learn that their word should be a bond in terms of promising delivery. Perhaps someday they will truly understand what a burden major renovation places on a family (customer) and prioritize the customer over themselves. I hope so.
Description of Work: Major 1st Floor Renovation: The project entailed opening up the first floor by installing posts and beam; installing new hardwoods throughout most of the first floor; refinishing kitchen cabinets where applicable; building new base cabinets to extend the kitchen; installing new recessed lighting in two rooms; removing brick from most of my living leaving just enough for a surround around the fireplace; building a new mantel for the fireplace; and building a custom pantry. The project started the first week in May and was projected to take between five and six weeks. Expected completion date as the first week in June.
