On time and courteous estimator. He went over all our options and took the time to insure we fully understood our options. After a lengthy discussion with the estimator I felt comfortable with the options and that he was interested in helping us, not just selling a roof.

Even though the warranty over the roof they installed 8 years ago was over, they responded and followed up promptly and fixed the respective area. They also did not charge. We are very happy with the responsiveness and professional follow up. Thank you.

So far we have had a good experience with them. They do very good work. The final inspection was this past Monday and we received the invoice shortly after. The company is very confident in their quality of their work and that is what really stood out to us. They were also punctual and had good communication.

My homeowners insurance company said I had a problem with my roof (which I doubted) but I contacted St. Joseph's to come take a look at the roof and see if it needed replacement. I am an absent landlord, so I didn't meet the estimator, but my tenant said he came on time and did a thorough inspection on the roof. I was pleased that they were honest and told me I didn't need to have the roof repaired, but said a few of the shingles could be replaced and they suggested I remove the old TV antenna (which I've been wanting to do for a while) because it was putting pressure on the roof. They also suggested a gutter protection system as an option. The price they quoted was very fair and I intend on using them to get the work done after a finish with a few other, more pressing repairs on the property.

e. We already had a roof vent which they reinstalled. We were going to install a bottom edge roof vent, but were convinced out of using it in place of relocating the fan, and that change happened smoothly on the day of installation. This big a job done this quickly can be a problem, as it was in our case. The fan was re-located in an extremely difficult place to access from inside the attic, and was not hooked up. Nor was anyone told it was not hooked up. One of the skylights, that was to be replaced as part of the job, was flashed incorrectly. The guy who handled subsequent issues caught the incorrect flashing issue. I figured out the fan was not installed, and after considerable effort, the man who handled the skylight also installed the fan after a couple efforts. The skylight process was ridiculous. Despite the fact that the fixit guy - Dave - correctly measured the aperture, the replacement of the skylight took months, and twice the wrong size window arrived. Finally, rather than wait for a third window that would be much smaller to be ordered, I took the second one, which required considerable reworking of the aperture, busting out framing and drywall. Dave came back multiple times, did mutually agreed upon finishing, and was completely willing to do what was needed. On the whole St. Joseph fixed the issues that cropped up, and was generally accessible to respond to issues as they arose. Dave and his assistant get kudos for making sure things work. In fact I'm waiting for him to drop by the new screen as the one installed could not be removed without breaking it so he had it reworked. We had the roof installed in April I think and it's August. You can see the time frame. If they hadn't been so responsive, and Dave willing to work with me to make sure everything worked out eventually, they'd have gotten a lower overall grade. I understand roofs can be complicated. I would have preferred the install take a bit longer (like 2 days or a day and half), to allow for more careful install, which might have obviated some of these later issues. But I did like that they were so willing the day of the install to clarify and recommend specific best processes for attic ventilation, which were different that we first had discussed.
Description of Work: St. Joseph people took off and replaced our entire roof in one day. They hauled out an old fan, cut a hole for a new fan, and installed it. They installed two new vents over a carport, flashed the chimney and two skylights. They were to install bottom edge roof vent and a new skylight - the latter later on.

Ms. (member name removed), I would like to thank you both for your patience and for taking the time to write such a thorough review. You have provided us with valuable feedback, which we will use to further update our processes. The skylight we needed to use for your job was from a different company than we usually use. However, we hope that you are pleased with the overall outcome. I want to assure you that, despite the problems during the course of your project, we have and will continue to stand behind our work. We are confident that you will have a trouble-free roof for many years to come.

I grew up on the job site with my Dad and have seen lots of different contractors. The quality of this roofing team is top notch. NO shortcuts were taken, and with roofing, there are several that can occur. They noticed a bad flashing job from the previous owner, and immediately fixed it without being asked by me. Contractors don't often surpass my expectations (they are fairly high), but these guys did. Great job. Note: They weren't the lowest bid, but I can't imagine an overall better value. Their warranty is also the best in the business. 25 years for workmanship is amazing, 10 years is the norm.
Description of Work: Removed 1 layer of shingles, replaced several rotted plywood boards, and replaced roof. They also installed shingle vents at the eaves for ventilation. Added roof to new construction of a screened in porch.

I found them on Angie's List. We've had some water entry and I fixed some of them myself. There's a merely flat, slightly sloping back roof on the house that happens to have some skylights in it and we've had water entry from there. The guy who came out to look at the situation was obviously a kind of guy who actually does the work. He made some practical short term recommendations in terms of what to do about the problem. He also provided us with an estimate for a longer term fix. The estimate looked very reasonable. I want to get another provider back out for an estimate and hear about what a different provider apart from these two have in mind. We probably won't do anything immediately because we may want to integrate that with other work that gets done on the house. We haven't been here long enough to be sure about exactly what we want to do yet. In fact I've already bought some of the materials to attempt to do the short term fix that another provider talked about for now and then differ for six to twelve months doing anything more radical until we assessed our financial situation and how long we are going to be here. St Joseph's did propose a price and we have an estimate from them. It looks reasonable to me. They were a little bit slow in getting the estimate out to us which is not a big deal. We were about to call them and ask them if they forgot about us. Apparently they did send us something earlier that for some reason or the other didn't come. They were sending it to my wife's email and she doesn't remember seeing it but anyway I wouldn't fault them. The guy who came out was a worker but I enjoyed interacting with him. He was very forward. We would certainly consider working with them. We are in the midst of collecting estimates and we probably won't do anything about any of them right away.

I had three different companies over to look at roof which I suspected had some leaking issues. The gutters in one area were starting to pull away and I wanted that repaired also. I decided to go with St. Joseph's because they were the only company that actually went on the roof and inspected it. The others tried to sell me a new roof. They also had the cheapest estimate for the repair. Because of the leak the fast tracked the repair and arrived later that week. They arrived on-time, repaired the issues and cleaned up after themselves. No problems with either issue since. Only had one minor issue with the billing. They did not send me the bill right away but notified me via an email that I was deliquent on payment. I talked with the manager and she said it was a glitch with the computer program they used. She resolved it right away.

Work was excellent from start to finish. Kevin Spence inspected roof and inside attic. (Note: Two other companies didn't even climb a ladder to see the condition of flashing). Estimate was provided two days later via email, and service date set for two weeks later. Their estimate was much lower than one company and on par with another. Kevin was right on time and completed the flashing work and installed vents on one side of house. (Rain prevented him from installing vents on other side until two days later. Safety first!). The vents were installed perfectly straight and even. This was important because each side had two vents, due to wood beam in attic. (Note: the other companies didn't even go into attic, and would not have seen the wood beam until already cutting into siding. That may have been a right problem). The flashing work included removing a previously installed cricket that was causing more problems than solving. Removing old flashing and several layers of shingles (some old that were left on when previous roofer just covered them over). Kevin installed new flashing, new shingles (perfect color match!) and sealed. He did a great job of cleaning all debris. The company sent me an email asking if I had any concerns or questions (I had none), and only then sent the invoice. That was a nice touch. Also, Kevin was very patient with my numerous questions.
Description of Work: (1) Installed Attic Vents including cutting holes in siding (2) Replaced old flashing at chimney to include new shingles, removed troublesome and unneeded cricket.

We asked for an estimate on a new roof for our single-family home in Springfield, VA. Mr. McShurely came out to look at the roof and explain different roofing materials and their useful life. He provided a lot of useful information. We received an emailed estimate a few days later. The estimate was reasonable and very detailed. We ended up going with a different provider who provided a lower estimate, but would recommend St. Joseph Roofing based on our past experience with them: we had them replace our gutters last year and they did an excellent job.

I contracted St. Joseph's to have two layers of shingles taken off the roof and new shingles applied. Although I had not asked to have the wood underneath replaced, I noticed old wood coming off the roof and was concerned. I called the company to inquire why the decision had been made to replace the wood. They told me that rotted wood had been found around the vent piping and in other areas around the roof and it had to be replaced. I accepted the decision. I was extremely grateful to have done so after speaking to my next door neighbor. Her house was built at the same time mine was and she had her roof replaced two years ago. She told me her sons went into the attic to get the Christmas decorations this year and found they were wet. Her roof was leaking because the company she hired had not replaced the rotted wood underneath. I was very happy that St. Joseph's made the decision to replace the rotted wood. I would recommend them to friends and family.

I had received two estimates before contacting St. Joseph. Both prior companies spent 2+ hours explaining how good their companies were and how good their materials, the equipment and supplies were. I had to listen to them explaining their company "Mission Statement" "philosophy" and training programs before they would provide and estimate. I found out later that the materials, equipment, supplies and training were all specified by the shingle manufacturer. The St. Joseph estimator very quickly evaluated the job and the company sent me an emailed detailed estimate within 48 hours. Their price was considerably lower than other estimates. I later realized that St. Joseph doesn't hire salesmen who receive large commissions - they just estimate and do the work promptly and cleanly. they came on time and finished the work in the time-frame they said it would take. They cleaned up all the debris and the roof looked terrific afterwards. A few days later a supervisor came and inspected the work.

On time when scheduled. Kevin Spence, who does repairs for St. Joseph, provides excellent workmanship and is very responsive. While some other less professional roofers were quick to try to convince us to replace the roof, despite there being no leaks, Kevin was able to show us that was unnecessary and that a maintained roof could give us years more of serviceable life.

My wife and I are extremely happy with the price, the workmen, and most importantly - the results. Two years ago I started soliciting bids from reputable contractors for a whole-house makeover. Several were quick to deliver bids, but as I continued to research options and ask questions they lost interest. Then I remembered St. Joseph's, who had repaired a minor roof leak years earlier. Mark McShurley was extremely patient, encouraging me to ask questions, willing to drop off samples, helpful but never pressuring. All the quotes were in the same ballpark, but when St. Joseph's quote was tied or lower than the others while including nice extras we gave them business. Each of the major projects brought workers with different skills, but who were all polite, neat, and cooperative. They showed me the wood on the roof that needed to be replaced. I knew there was an area missing fiberglass insulation, and they gladly took some that I had and tucked inside. When I didn't like the way a wire was passed through the siding, they fixed it without a hint of frustration or anger. I told them not to remount two old outside lights, but they reinstalled the other one without my asking - and offered to mount new ones for me. At first I wanted them to leave some windows, and when I changed my mind they hauled them away. Even after some of the dustiest jobs the areas were vacuumed, and the windows were cleaned spotless. On top of that, they smiled when they worked - even during some of the coldest days this winter. If you couldn't tell, I'm particular about the way things are done, and while I have some flexibility it still requires me to arrange my schedule in advance to be home. If I had to ding anything, I would say they could have called me to say when they were coming or not coming. That said, they send out reminder emails that clearly state schedules are not exact due to weather, traffic, and other unforeseen circumstances, and I suspect this would be true of any company The results are just amazing! Lines are neat. Caulk is thorough - and they used a color that matches the siding without my asking. Downspouts run on the least visible sides. The windows are level. And how much did I have to pay out before the work was done you ask? Not a dime. Let me repeat this: they did not require any money up front. It's nerve racking committing to a project like this, worrying how it will go and whether it was a good choice. I haven't lost one day of sleep over this project. I would absolutely, positively use St. Joseph's again, and I recommend you consider them, too. (And yes, I take the CONFIRM box seriously - I do not work for them or a competitor, nor did I receive compensation of any kind to write a positive review.)
Description of Work: St Joseph's did more work on my house in a few months than has been done the twenty years I lived here: New roof, nine new windows (and closed a tenth), sliding rear door, replaced wood siding with vinyl, new gutters, and a SolaTube.

I had St. Joseph's Roofing come to do an estimate for both my neighbor's and my townhouses in January. The estimator showed up when he said he would but that is pretty much the high point of my experience with the company. He looked at my roof from the outside of the house but did not want to go up since he was concerned it may be slippery, in fairness it had snowed recently. However, he said not to worry because he would use "satellite imagery" to get a view of the two roofs to create the estimate. Once the estimate process was complete, which basically consisted of small talk and explaining the company does all the roofing for the Catholic Churches in the area (which is great, one reason I considered them), the estimator said he would be back to me with an estimate in about two days. This was on a Saturday morning. By the next Friday I still had not heard from them and neither had my neighbor. I called the company and left a message. They returned my call saying the estimator had been sick but my estimate was on its way soon. I NEVER received and estimate. According to my neighbor he called them multiple times about not actually receiving an estimate. We both ended up going with another company. Very poor service and I would not recommend using this company.

Response from St Joseph's Roofing Inc
We are disappointed that this customer was unhappy in his experience, and apologize that he did not receive an estimate from us. At the appointment, the estimator gave the customer a ballpark estimate, which the customer then said was way too high--much higher than any other estimates he had received. This is one of the reasons that we specialize in single family homes, and not townhouses (it even says in our description on Angie's List that we do not specialize in townhouses); because we have found that customers can often get better prices on townhouses from other roofing companies. The estimator was sick for quite a while, but he also did not think the customer would need the estimate since he had already been told that his price was too expensive. As you have experienced, there are other companies that can replace townhouse roofs and perform small repairs for less money. As our reviews indicate, we concentrate most of our attention on providing quality customer service after we are hired. Angie's List unfortunately does not make a distinction between reviews for estimates and reviews for work performed, and one can see in reading our reviews that it is clear that the vast majority of those who actually hire us are very satisfied with the work performed. " Once again, we apologize for your experience and are happy that you were able to find someone to satisfactorily complete your roof.

Kevin the repair man comes to the home looks to find where the problem is. Once the problem is located he either fixes it right away or returns in a day or so. Then Ann in the office sends a bill and I can pay by phone or Pay Pal.

I was very impressed with them because when I first called after hurricane Sandy they were very upfront that they were swamped with calls and it would be 6 weeks before they could get someone out for an estimate. I made an appointment anyway and I'm glad I did. My usual roofer kept saying they would call when they were in my area but they never did. The other roofer that I actually talked to said they weren't even taking new customers. And 5 other roofers didn't return my messages so I was very glad I had my appointment with St. Joseph's. Everything from then on went smoothly. They are professional, polite and willing to explain in detail so I could understand. If we need a roofer again we will use them.
Description of Work: We had 3 leaks in our roof after hurricane Sandy. St Joseph's roofing determined that two were due to the shingles on one side of the roof blowing up and letting in small amounts of water and one was not the roof as we thought but rather cracked caulking around the top of a palladium window. We decided to go with a repair rather than a replacement. They caulked the window. They took off the edge shingles and put a lip underneath so the rain couldn't blow in underneath and replaced the shingles along the edge.

Out of all the roofers contacted, St Joseph's was the easiest to talk to and do business with. The sales staff does not pressure you into a contract, nor do they try to confuse you with too many options. They were also prompt and courteous in responding to the many questions I had before entering into a contract with them. I did not rate "Doing service properly on the first try," as it may be too early to judge. I hope to follow up at a later date. However, I have no reason to expect any problems with my new roof. Their staff did an outstanding job in cleaning up both my yard and my neighbor's yard after the job was finished. In summary, my experience with St Joseph's Roofing so far has been extremely positive, and their people are both likeable and professional.

The work turned out exactly as they had promised. They also didn't ask for any money up front and completed the work in a timely manner. They also cleaned up after themselves. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody.
Description of Work: They put in a whole new roof and gutters.
