Description of Work: Preferred Siding took off the old cedar shingles from our house and installed Hardie plank siding and trim all around our house. They were very responsive and worked quickly and cleanly (the yard was safe for my kids after the process). Extra time was taken to get tough areas, like around our deck, done correctly. Two smaller problems - it was torture to get the workers out to finish putting up the mailbox, house numbers, etc. Little things to finish it off. One gently worded email to the owner and it was done the next day. Also, their recommended painter (for trim) looked at the house and never gave us an estimate, despite repeated calls and promises. I let Preferred Siding know, and they apologized. They offered to find someone else, but our interior painter also did exteriors, so we were able to get the work done. But the house looks great and it was a relatively easy experience!

I contracted with Preferred Siding after receiving estimates and visits from three other companies, all of whom disappointed me in some way (e.g. never sending estimate, pushy salesman, etc). Steve was fantastic from the get-go -- extremely professional -- and his office staff, including Grace, are equally wonderful. Grace frequently called me to check in and tell me what to expect as the repair process got underway. The crew did their job in a very professional way as well. We are extremely pleased with the result -- the Hardie board trim will last us decades. Steve and Grace were also very helpful connecting me with other professionals, as I needed to hire someone to replace the gutters and paint the new trim. Overall, one of the best experiences I've had with a contractor.
Description of Work: We have a 30-year old townhouse and the wood trim was largely rotten. As a result, we had animals in the attic and a woodpecker problem. I originally thought I would need to replace all of the wood in the front and back of the house, but Steve saved me a bundle by giving his opinion that only the trim needed replacement. I was anxious to have a synthetic material like Hardie board installed, so I'd have a lasting solution to the rot and animal problem. Steve's team replaced all the trim, and it looks great.

We could not be happier with the job that Preferred Siding did. Everything went better than we could have expected. Steve Ginsberg is a true professional. He is easy to work with, responsive, knowledgeable and was very generous with his time. He made the whole process easy, and fun. He had great, creative design ideas that we are delighted with. He met us at a house in McLean to show us one of his ideas "in the flesh". We took a long time to decide what colors to go with, which resulted in a number of visits to our home. We also had several problem areas due to long-neglected water leaks, which is one reason we took down the existing siding rather than go over top of it. Steve and his crew addressed the problems, and really went above and beyond in order to make sure we got a great-looking, mechanically sound installation. Preferred Siding could have asked us for more money, but they did not. I discussed pricing early on with Steve, and he was very candid about the range we could expect for a job like ours. In fact, we got an unsolicited price from a siding company with connections to our remodeling contractor. It was (apparently) a little less, but on a job like this I want to go with a contractor that I know is going to see the job through and make sure it's right. Preferred Siding seemed like that kind of company, and our experience absolutely bore that out. We give Steve Ginsberg and Preferred Siding our highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Replace siding on our entire house. Remove old board and batten siding. Wrap house with weather barrier. Replace original Celotex wall board in garage with plywood.

Steve came out to provide an estimate, said I'd hear from him in a couple of weeks, and I never did. I called twice over the next several weeks later, and Grace the secretary said my estimate was in her hands, would be going out the next day. I never heard from them again and it has been two months. Steve was very professional, and they are the only Hardie installer recommend both by Angie's list and hardie. I was ready to hire him just based on our conversation. I was very surprised to not hear from them - can't say what type of work they might do.

Response from Preferred Siding Inc
We did delay the member's estimate inordinately and have called to offer a forthright apology. A rush of activity in late August did not allow for our usual proposal time and it fell through the proverbial crack. We have called to offer to rectify it very promptly if the member is agreeable. This is a "first" for us and we are sincere in our apology.

Rather than "selling" us a solution, Steve eduated us on what he thought we should do. His recommendation did not involve changing out all the siding, or even making a sale for Steve's company. Steve recommended alternative repair options which would mitigate problem areas on the home which were encountering wood rot. He continued to spend time with us to describe how each repair could be done as DIY to save money. He offered help and services if we elected to hire someone. As I invited several companies out to provide estimates, I was impressed with Steve's integrity in forgoing a potential sale, in order to offer a sensible solution that met our circumstances. If you need an honest opinion regarding a potential siding and gutter projects, call Steve at Preferred Siding.
Description of Work: Our residence in Oakton is comprised of 95% wood siding (T1-11). Improper construction techniques involving roof seams, flashing and gutter design have resulted in water pentration and wood rot. Second story eaves were also non-ventilated and several exterior defects are contributing to other problems with the home. We contacted Preferred Siding to come out and provide an estimate for replacing the affected siding or propose a conversion to hardi or vinyl products. Additional work was specified for porch posts and fascia borads. Steve Ginsberg came out and performed a thorough site assessment and spent a significant amount of time with us.

The project went very well. Steve Ginsberg arrived for the estimate right on time. He walked around the entire perimeter of our house with me as I described the work we wanted done. Steve spent plenty of time with me answering my questions and making suggestions. Once we'd finished, he spent more time taking measurements, etc. We received his estimate a few days later. Once we selected Preferred Siding, the foreman for our job (Sam) met with Steve to go over the job prior to commencing work. Sam and his crew arrived exactly when they said they would and got right to work. With the exception of short lunch breaks, they worked straight through each day (it took @ 3 days). They were very professional and respectful of our property. At the end of each day, they stored their materials/equipment neatly in our carport and made sure the area was clean and free of debris. The windows on our house are the original aluminum storm windows. During the walkthrough with Sam, Steve decided that it would look more professional if the windows were framed with enameled aluminum that matched the color of the siding. He described it to me and I agreed, so he told Sam to include this finishing work at no extra cost. Although our project wasn't the largest or most expensive job, the Preferred Siding staff handled it as though it were. Everyone from the office staff to the crew comported themselves in a very professional manner. It was a pleasure working with them.

Mr. Steve Ginsburg is an extraordinary contractor to work with (in a good way). Many of the houses in my neighborhood are getting work done for hail damage. I wanted to get a professional evaluation as to whether I had incurred hail damage. I felt that I got a high quality assessment of the damage as he walked me around the house. In addition I had an instructive discussion (instructive for me) with him about various types of sidings and their pros and cons. He also showed me some additional work that was needed outside the house and offered to put me in touch with other professionals would might do that work. I was very impressed with Mr. Ginsburg’s professionalism and will certainly consider engaging his services if I need siding work.

Meeting with Steve was refreshing. He walked around our property and gave us some really exciting new ideas to transform our house. He drew up some of the plans for us and showed us examples as well. We asked for references and he promply provided addresses for us. What impressed us the most was the attention to detail and quality of workmanship. Hand-nailing every plank was something we hadn't even considered possible in this day and age. Steve's mother, Grace, was a pleasure to speak to when making all the arrangements for the contract and installation. She even tolerated my crazy requests and "held my hand" when trying to make sure we had made all the right decisions. If I had a question she was right on top of the answer and made any necessary phone calls on my behalf. Tremendous customer service. The crew at the house was prompt, easy to talk to and cleaned up thoroughly after each work day. We didn't mind the fact that it took 8 days to install because we knew they are more concerned with quality than finishing a job quickly. The new siding is gorgeous and we're VERY pleased.
Description of Work: Removed original siding, trim, gutters and downspouts and replaced with Hardie Siding (heathered moss) and white trim. We had the smooth finish instead of the wood grain because we liked the texture of the original siding and wanted to keep with that.

First of all, Steve Ginsberg is a delight to work with. He not only knows his siding but has a real eye for design and guided us through the process to get the exact look we wanted from the size and style of the board to shingles in the gables to the window and door trim to a specialty corner trim, etc. Not only is he a professional but a really nice guy -- very down to earth and easy to work with. He showed up on the job quite often to see how his guys were doing. His workers were very hard working, diligent and professional. They did a superb job on the installation, the clean up and everything in between. Honestly, we couldn't be happier and can't say enough wonderful things about them.
Description of Work: Took off old aluminum siding from two-story center hall Colonial and hauled away to recycling. Sided entire house and trimmed out with custom details using James Hardie Plank primed siding. We did not go with a baked on color but elected to have it painted using an acrylic based paint with primer instead to get the perfect color we were wanting. I hired a painter separately. The cost was just a bit more than going with the baked on finish.

Pre-sale and Sale: We sought numerous quotes and Preferred Siding was the only contractor we felt a personal connection with. You'll deal directly with the owner, Steve, and he'll take the time to discuss his philosophies and approach to doing business. They only do Hardie siding and nothing else, so they truly are specialists. Steve also does not believe in change orders, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay. This was such a nicer experience than dealing with other high volume contractors who did more than just siding. In fact, all they were interested in was dropping off a quote and hitting the road. We never heard back from one of them. In Preferred Siding's case, Steve came back by the house several times to chat with us about color choices, reinspect the home to confirm his measurements and in general just to make sure our questions were being answered. Steve's attention to us and to detail and his honest approach to doing business sold us from the very beginning and we are thrilled with the results. The Work: In a word.. Awesome. The crew that took care of our job was outstanding from day one and did an amazing job, paid exceptional attention to detail and did top quality work! House really looks brand new! The guys were on time every morning, would work their tails off until about six and leave the job site very clean and orderly at the end of the day. To give you an example of how hard these guys worked, I witnessed some of guys, needing a tool, run from where they were to the truck, grab a tool and run back to their job. I mentioned earlier that the price you are quoted is the price you pay... I saw this in practice. There was one section of the house where the rot was much worse than expected, creating some extra work for Steve's crew to fix it in both time and materials. No problem. Steve had them take care of it and never once suggested he would charge us for the extra work. I did rate Preferred Siding as a B on price, this really had more to do with our budget than their pricing. Preferred Siding was the least expensive quote we got for Hardie siding, but it was twice as much as we had budgeted for the project. Steve worked with us on the price as much as he could and we decided that getting top notch siding that we don't need to worry about again was worth the investment. Overall, we could not be happier with the results and would absolutely recommend Preferred Siding to anyone looking for Hardie siding.
Description of Work: Preferred Siding did a complete siding installation on our home. They removed all the old trim, inspected for wood rot and repaired it whereever found (which was a lot), wrapped the home in Hardie Wrap, installed Hardie trim and Hardie plank siding on the whole house and finished by caulking and flashing where appropriate.

Steve's worker did a wonderful job, very professional, quiet and unobtrusive. The work was perfect. I would highly recommend Preferred Siding for any jobs large or small. This company cares more about the quality of the work and your satisfaction than anyone I have ever worked with. I have owned more than 10 properties and have dealt with many contractors. Preferred Siding is the best I have ever used, bar none!
Description of Work: Siding needed to be replaced either with hardi board or T111 (existing). We had water coming in many different places. Steve recommended that we repair the faulty siding, since hardi board didn't have the proper T111 size for our townhouse. All other contractors wanted to rip off all the siding, instead of repairing the failing spots. All estimates were $18000 plus except Steve's.

Preferred installed James Hardie Plank (ColorPlus) siding on a new addition to our house. Steve was very responsive, professional and paid a great deal of attention to detail. His crew (subcontracted, Sam was the foreman) was great, working through some very cold conditions and the holidays. In addition to the siding, they installed soffits, boxed-in eaves to our new roof trusses and built soffit returns for the gable ends. All the work looks great and we will be calling them again when we move onto renovating the existing house (in the next year or 2). They kept us informed of anything that might be an issue along the way and worked with us to make sure we were happy with everything they did. When there was a small issue (we were not there to answer a question, so they made a judgment call), they reworked the parts in question and replaced the materials. Great job all around. The only reason price wasn't an "A" was because they weren't the cheapest, but we feel like we got more than our money's worth. Punctuality would likely have been an "A" as well if the project weren't done around the holidays and in bad weather.

It is difficult to find a contractor that will take on a small job like mine. Most would not consider anything less than replacing the siding on the entire house. Preferred siding was willing and generally did a good job. The technicians were good at finding ways to install the siding on the unusual and irregular shaped area. The price for the job was increased after construction began because some of the underlying plywood was rotten due to water damage. My only complaint was that the owner was slow in returning phone calls.
Description of Work: I asked them to replace my old wood siding around the base of my sunroom with new Hardie Siding because of termite problems with the wood siding. Hardie Siding is concrete based and impervious to termites.

It took a long time from the time we signed the contract until the work was done but initially we were a small job and I did say that we were not in a hurry. The biggest problem was that I would call, they would say they'd be here within two weeks, but then weren't. This happened three times. However, once I started setting some deadlines, things moved quickly and the work was well worth the wait. The work crew was friendly and did top-notch work. I'm glad we decided to replace the vinyl siding at the same time.

Very competitive pricing and the work was excellent. Very hard working team. PSI replaced all the wood trim on my two-story townhouse, front and back, with PVC and Hardi panels. One small mistake (two nails driven thru window frames on the inside of house) was rectified immediately and without complaint, and the work looks superb. I've already recommended this group, and particularly Sam Yeth (foreman) and his team, to my neighbors. The outside/inside of my home looks terrific-it's a smooth, professional job.
