Work was fantastic and the company was very easy to work with. They kept us informed on how things were going. Great value. Highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Needed huge update of our townhouse to get ready to rent it out. Olde World Painting sent in a crew to not just paint but did other updates and work. They helped with cabinets and other touches.

Contrary to a prior report on Angies list which was negative, I found Olde World Painters to be very professional. Olde World Painters assigned a team to my job and that team worked each weather free day to complete the job. They removed and stored the mahogany lumber from my old deck, they added joists that were necessary to achieve the correct spacing for Trex and finally they completed the job on time creating a very professional deck. I expect to ask Olde World Painters to do more work in the future.
Description of Work: Install Trex decking and handrail on my deck on back oh house, about 1000 ft sq.

Response from OLDE WORLD PAINTING OF MARYLAND, INC
Had performed several previous jobs for the customer and was continually re-used for multiple jobs prior to the construction of a pool house. My contract was to build a pool house. Customer had a architect draw plans and the architect was to also organize the permits and electrical/plumbing work initially. The electrical work and the plumbing work was not a part of my original proposal. Part of the way through the job it was determined that the architect did not pull the permits as he said he would and also did not have an electrician or plumber. I was asked by the architect to find an electrician and plumber. I hired an electrician that worked full time for a friends electrical company, and also hired a plumber to do the plumbing work. The electrician was a problem and ultimately it did require 2 failed inspections to get the electrical to pass inspection. I pulled permits and the work was inspected and passed inspections. In relation to the statement of a gas leak, well this was never brought to my attention before, during, or after the work. The plumbing work looked right when we did the work, and the county passed the inspection, however not being a plumber or electrician by trade myself I do not know if something was done wrong or not per code. Again, it passed inspection and I assumed that the people that were referred to me for this portion of the job knew what they were doing. In response to being fired from the job, this occurred only AFTER all work was completed and a final invoice amount in excess of $3500 was presented to the customer for final payment was I fired. I did not persue the final payment out of courtesy to the customer for how long things took, thinking that it seemed fair to me that since the job went over this money would be adequate compensation to the customer for their time lost. We are a painting and carpentry related company, we can do light electrical and plumbing such as exchanging a light fixture or faucet, but whenever major electrical work or plumbing work is required, currently we recommend Fort Hunt Plumbing and RTL Electrical to do that work for us, should a customer want me to manage the work on their behalf. I wish I had not agreed to organize the electrical on behalf of the architect as this portion of the work did put a bad taste in the customer's mouth. The actual building work was inspected and approved first go around, and it is a gorgeous addition to their house. The customer knows that my company is capable of carpentry and paint related work as this was not the first time that I had worked for them. At least 5 other jobs had been performed to the customer's satisfaction prior to this effort, and all of which led the customer to hire me for this project. I also could confidently say that if the customer asked me to do or change something we would do it promptly and courteously. Customer service is our forte and I still feel that I did what I could before, during, and after the project to try to please the customer. I wish I had seen this review before now to respond earlier, however I did not know that this negative report was out there. This is certainly a tough report to swallow however it is a bit exaggerated and I was put in a bad spot by the architect to do some work that I was not originally contracted to do. The only way for me to keep the project moving forward was to hire someone to do the electrical and plumbing work, if I had not accepted this request from the architect the project would have reached a standstill and my guys would not have been able to continue and would have been out of work. The electrician was licensed through his fulltime job and the statement that the plumber was unlicensed was untrue, the plumbing work passed all inspections first go around. If indeed there was a gas leak the customer only would have needed to contact me and a quick response would have been made to fix it. From a building/construction/carpentry point of view I would find it hard to believe that the customer was unsatisfied from that point of view, it was truly the electrical work that put the bad taste in the customer's mouth and it was certainly un-intentional. In the end the electrical did pass inspections and a third party electrician was brought in to fix the wrong doings of the first guy, all paid at my expense. It seems though that the expense was greater than anticipated with this report being out there the last 2 years unbeknownst to me. One customer that views me this way is certainly enough and I will do my best to ensure that any and all work we perform never puts me in a position like this again. I have been in the industry for almost 20 years and I have hundreds of positive reviews and letters of recommendations, its just ashame in my opinion that one report like this gives me an F rating. Anyway, I will try and do my best to prove to myself and my customers, as I always do and have done, to be the best at customer service that I can. Respectfully, Lewis Wharton

They came back about two months later and were supposed to be here in January to repair the work they did. They never showed. I called them in three times and they never came back. I would never advice anyone, to deal with them. All the work done by them reoccurred again within 2 months. They were back to look in at re-caulking and re-repair the crown moldings, which they caulked and painted. We were sure they would come out and I had another job to do that time. They not only didn't come out for the repair; but they also did not come out to do the job, I was contracting and I did not give them money. I called them three times and they never returned my call. They did not stand by their words. They were not reliable and backing up with what they did, even within a 90 day period of time. The guy actually came out and had a look over the problem. He told he'll fix it and gave us the date in January to repair from the garage, which was a new contract. They never returned my call and never acknowledged the fact that; he told he was going to repair. He was supposed to do a small job, which I wanted him to do with the exterior work of the house. Their price wasn't the most expensive; but wasn't the cheapest either. They have done previous two jobs in our house, which was the reason I contacted him again. He painted our exterior twice over the period of 4-5 years. I needed some interior work so I rehired him because the work had been pretty good. Except for the fact that when we contracted for painting interior, my wife told that paint had to be washable, which turned out not to be. The quality of work was not what it was. Indeed he painted the outside of the house. The exterior paints started to separate early probably indicated that they didn't clean the wood properly, before cleaning or didn't use good quality primer. I think some of the problem looking backward may have been, the greater the paint that he may have used. Some of the aspects were good and some were poor. The main problem was either standing by his poor work he had done for the short period and the kind of paint that was supposed to be used, it wasn't. I went through the contract and looking back at it was kind of vague. There wasn't anything legally I could have done about it because it was well specified. I can't take the track record but someone who I felt was pretty good, after a while it gets to be less than good. They were here every morning on time. They showed up and they did their job. They cleaned up well after themselves.
Description of Work: Olde World Painting Of Maryland, Inc did an interior paint job during last fall. They painted the upstairs and the whole interior of the house. They did some caulking and crack repair.

The work performed at the member's house was performed in a timely and professional manner. We were paid in full and heard no complaints from the customer at all. About 2 months after the work was completed we received a call asking us to come and take a look at their garage door jam, which the customer broke by driving into it. I had indicated that we could come and replace the door jam at an extra cost, but that they would have to let me know when they would be ready to have the work done. I did mention at the time that we wouldbe available in January but I never got confirmation that they wanted to do the work. We had performed services for this customer before with glowing reports, that it why they hired us again. I'm not sure where things went wrong but I am always willing to fix any contracted work, always. The issues with the painting I am hearing about for the first time today, this is my first time logging into this page. The issue about the garage door jam was an extra job that maybe they wanted to have done, but there never was contract created to do that work, so I'm not sure why there's a complaint about it. We've been in business for over 30 years and we have 1000's of happy customers.

We were completely satisfied by the work of Olde World Painting of Maryland. Not only did they repair the damages done by a contractor, who refused to repair the damages and complete the work, but they did an outstanding job of completing the work. They were on-time. The work was done for exactly what they said the work would cost, and without need for my supervision and double-checking. They picked up all work-related trash, and left the worksite neat and clean.
Description of Work: Olde World Painting of Maryland power washed our townhome backyard fence, sanded the deck and stair rails and restained the deck and fence. By agreement, I provided half of the stain and Olde World Painting provided the remainder needed to complete the work.
