Erik was able to retrieve the data (whew!) despite several issues with the hard drive that made it really hard for him to extract the data. While the computer ultimately was not save-able (it was time for a new one anyway), I was able to get all of my photos and files back on an external drive. The price listed above was for service plus the cost of the drive. Soooo happy! :-)

Couldn't ask for better service and experience

My 2008 Dell desktop computer would not properly start up. I decided that working with someone locally (rather than a remote help desk) would be best when I could not even get my computer to start. After reviewing Angie's List, I contacted Novatech via email. Erik Bursch called me the same day (late afternoon). He provided thoughts about what might be wrong and how he would proceed to determine the issue and repair it (if possible). He appropriately cautioned me that depending on what was wrong, I might be better off purchasing a new computer. He also advised that it would be less expensive if I could drop the computer off for him to work on. If he came to my home, he would need to charge for all his time, while he would only charge for the actual time working on my computer if he was able to run the diagnosis while he worked on other things. I dropped my computer off at Erik's house that evening. He called the next day to let me know what he had found and how he was proceeding to fix it. I was able to pick up my computer the following afternoon. Erik asked that I let him know how the computer behaved as I worked with it. Erik was very pleasant and easy to work with. I would definitely use him again.

After spending 2 days trying to run the appropriate malware removal program, gave up & called 3 top rated services. By this time, it was a holiday (of course.) Erik was the only one who called back on July 4th, so he got the job. I told him what I had tried, and he said it was what he would have tried first. He warned me that there was a chance he would not be able to get in either, but he would try. He was successful. He returned the pc promptly and plugged everything back in. He also took our very old PC and monitor with him to recycle & left the hard drive with us for safety's sake. He was efficient, flexible, courteous and reasonable compared to other services I've use. I will definately use his service again.

Overall, it went very well. Among the most important things to me, Erik seems like an honest guy who makes his money honestly & with integrity, and IS NOT looking to maximize his profits on every engagement regardless of the consequences. As I found Erik on Angie's List this time, I remembered I called Erik a couple of years ago about an apparent virus / malware issue. He recommended that, before I spend money on his services, I try "Malware Bytes". I downloaded and ran Malware Bytes and it fixed the problem - total cost: $0. Another quality I liked a lot, Erik was very responsive, accessible and turned things around quickly. Whenever I called / texted, he called / texted me back same day, sometimes within a few minutes, usually within the hour. I called him on a Friday, dropped my computer off on Saturday, and picked it up on Sunday. He was also competent, at least with respect to the issue I had. Finally, he charged what I thought was a very reasonable price. The reason I gave him a B in punctuality was because he was running around all weekend (understandably, he has a full time job and does the computer work on the side), and each time we talked, timelines were sketchy and I found it hard to plan my weekend around our dropoff, updates, and pickup. Might simply be a matter of setting / getting clear about expectations. In fairness, I dropped the computer off on a Friday and picked it up Sunday, so he turned it around quickly - this was only an issue at all because I was in such a rush to get it back. Given this is my only (and minor) complaint, I strongly recommend Novatech / Erik.

I left a message for Erik and he called back within about 30 minutes (I had left a message for 2 other computer businesses on here and got calls back 1-2 days later!). He was really nice and I explained what happened to my computer. I felt comfortable that he knew the next steps to take and he explained them at a non-technical level to me. We scheduled time for him to come over that worked with my schedule. He was on site for about 3 hours in which he fixed my laptop which was infected, recovered documents from my old desktop computer that I thought I would never get back (another company told me I needed to ship it away and pay a large price tag) and lastly he fixed some wireless issues I was having with my laptop, printer, network backup devices. All in all...i've found my new tech guy and have given his name to others in my neighborhood. I felt comfortable with him in my house and he was extremely polite.

He was able to reinstall Windows, then saved my Outlook for me, which I was later able to transfer into my laptop, as well as MS Office. I had a couple additional questions as well, which Eric promptly responded to both via text and email, and he made it a point to make sure I didn't have other questions. I feel that his combination of repsonsiveness, professionalism, service and price is pretty solid. I would highly recommend him and will use him again without hesitation when I need computer repair help.

We didn't know why our internet was down. Erik discussed possibilities with me over the phone. Eventually we decided we needed some new equipment and Erik came to install it. He gave us such comfort!! We will use him from now on.

I contacted Erik after finding him on Angie's List, explained the problem and delivered the PC to him. He repaired the problem quickly, did some additional checks for malicious software, added a malware detection application and returned the PC to me promptly. He was courteous, quick and obviously knowledgeable, and his charges were in line with the quality of his work. I have no hesitation in recommending him to those who have PC problems.

My experience with Erik was excellent. He called me promptly after I emailed him to request a quote, and was generous with his time as he helped me to evaluate whether it was worthwhile to repair my laptop. I was particularly impressed with his objective advice. He recommended I forgo an expensive repair that would have made him more money but in the end would not have been worthwhile for me. Erik was extremely accommodating and agreed to work over the weekend to help me out. His work was high-quality and efficient. His prices were competitive and consistent with his initial quote. He also followed up with me after the repair to make sure everything was ok. I have worked with other computer repair companies in Northern Virginia and they can't hold a candle to Erik. I will definitely use him again.

Erik called right after I emailed him. He actually picked up the computer at my work place. Within a day or so he called back to inform me the computer was fixed and then delvered it to me again at my work place. Great service. Great value!

Erik did an outstanding job in only a few days! He moved all of the data from the old PC, recovered everything from the crashed PC and put it all on my Mac in easy to understand folders. Erik got rid of all of my worries about lost data, I can't thank him enough. He was fast, professional, courteous and easy to work with. I give him my highest recomendation.

Our 5 yr old Dell PC used the Vista operating system. After "living on the edge" with this system (including one complete operating system failure), it was finally time to upgrade to Windows 7. While Microsoft says its a fairly easy upgrade, we wanted a professional to handle the installation and data migration issues and then tune up the computer to achieve optimum performance. We are hoping to get a least another two years from the machine to give Microsoft the time to introduce and fully test its new Windows 8 system. Eric offered to pickup the machine and complete the installation off-site to save us the cost of his time at our home. We appreciated his effort to keep the costs as low as possible, but we did not want to go through the process of disconnecting and reconnecting all the cords. The installation went very smoothly and without any problems. The data migration took significantly longer due to the amount of data on our machine. Eric and I agreed that it would be best for him to return the next morning to complete the tune up and initial training for the new system. It took another two+ hours to complete the data migration process, so this was a huge savings for me. Eric arrived exactly as scheduled on both occasions and we completed all the remaining work in a relatively short amount of time. Eric was very professional and I felt he always had my best interests at heart. He also offered to do some additional research on a couple of matters that were artifacts of the MSN system. I believe that this work achieved one of my main goals, to have a system that would continue to function well for another few years. I am very satisfied with the service that Eric provided and would definitely use him again should the need arise.

I called Erik due to his high rating on Angie’s list, He did not disappoint. He worked with me to schedule and appointment as soon as possible, and was very friendly. Through email correspondence he was able to get background information to make his time over more effective and economical. I would defiantly recommend him to anyone looking for help with their computer or equipment.

Erik was very helpful and patient with us as we went through our decisionmaking process and he gave great input. Once the new machine arrived, he came and spent a little less than a day moving our software and files to the new machine. He also set up and installed a wireless modem on the computer that the kids use. We will be bringing him back once we're ready to toss/donate the old computer, which will be soon. And, when our new computer ended up with some malware, he provided excellent phone support. I was able to remove the malware and get things back to normal.

All went quite well. I was so impressed by Erik's knowledge, professionalism, and service, that I asked him to do some additional work backing up some old computer hard drives. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat.

We contacted Erik after an unsuccessful experience with another computer technician (from another company) who failed to restore my virus infected home office laptop to working condition and was unable to recommend a solution to my wife's laptop to improve its lackluster performance. Erik responded to our phone call within a day and offered to pick the laptop up at my home for service. Erik successfuly restored the hard drive of the infected computer within a day and cleaned up my wife's computer to almost new performance. Both solutions were cost effective and we can't be happier with the outcome.

This review is LONG overdue. In the rush of trying to get our computer fixed, I called a "large electronic chain" to have them come service our computer....this was a TERRIBLE experience. They sent a technician that sat in our kitchen for 2 hours and didn't fix anything, AND then tried to charge us for his time. After fighting that, I turned to Angie's List and found Erik's company....what a night and day experience. Within about 20 minutes after leaving my voice mail for Erik, he called back and we walked through the problem over the phone for about 5 minutes. He explained exactly what needed to be done and roughly how much it was going to cost. He stopped by our house later that night and picked up the laptop to do the work remotely (spyware takes a long time to clean off). He had it back to us the next night, everything cleaned off and back to normal! We have also had him take care of additional computer stuff such as the network in our house and adding a graphics card so we could see multiple monitors. I can't tell you how pleasant of an experience this was. Erik is very nice and trustworthy...I felt very comfortable with him doing work on our computers. In the past couple of months, he's helped 4 of our neighbors out along with his team taking over the computer support for our office. A++ all around in my book. Thanks.

I highly recommend NovaTechHelp to anyone needing quick technical assistance. I called on two occasions and on both the response to my phone message was returned within the hour by Eric. Eric arrived at my home at the appointed hour and I found him to be very professional, polite, and intent on getting my computer up and running again. Eric was also very patient and helpful in answering any questions I had. I received a follow-up email from Eric a few days after his visit to make sure my computer was running well and to call him if I had any questions. Not only is Eric a great technician he is also a very nice person.

Erik came on very short notice (since I was in the process of moving). He worked quickly and professionally and was able to download everything I needed onto my new laptop. He also took extra time to reconfigure my laptop so that it would be easier for me to access the old information. He then sat with me to be certain that I understood how to follow his directions. He was at all times patient and genuinely helpful to me, a non-technical senior citizen. As a retired college professor I have had technical assistance throughout my career. I had used NovaTech Help before when both our computers (two laptops, one HP and one Dell) had both contracted viruses. For that issue, Erik was very response and helpful. He cleared our viruses and installed other virus protection equipment. Our computers were working better than ever. When our Dell went kaput while skyping, I again called Eric. He was again very professional and ran several diagnostics on the laptop. The diagnostics confirmed his suspicision that the operating system had crashed. He went on to install a new operating system and was able to save our files. He only had our computer for a couple days. Again, he proved to be a computer professional that can be counted on.
