Chuck LaGoe is a racism - he verbally assaulted an Asian woman after ramming her car from behind - after saying he knew he hit her car - he then yelled at her to speak English - told her to shut up - and called her a f_c{ing dumb go@k. He is disgusting.

Maria and Chuck did a pretty good job on helping us pick Regency gas insert and getting it installed, especially during COVID. The issue is service after the sale. I contacted Maria on October 19, 2022 due to our unit not staying lit. The unit was still under the two-year warranty until November 5, 2022 and Maria assured me that the work would be completed and covered by the warranty. Over the next two months I repeatedly called and emailed both Maria and Chuck and was told I was a "PRIORITY" customer, and they would put me on the schedule "Next Week". I have been given the excuse that they have health issues that do not allow them to service customers. I can understand this impacting the business for a couple of weeks, but nearly three months? Maria informed me that they did not want to send out a technician that was not certified to work on a Regency. How about hire and send someone to school? Well, it has been 11 WEEKS and at no time have they reached out to me to schedule a service call. As bad as I hate to give a business, especially a small family business, a bad review. Here it is "I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSWHERE!"

They charged $225 for 10 minutes work. He made a joke saying the service call was free but the charge was for him to walk from his truck to the door. He checked to see if the fireplace would turn off and on. He didn't bring any cleaning equipment with him like a vacuum or nor did he bring cleaning products to clean the glass with. He cleaned the glass with water and left it all streaked. This service call was a total rip off.

The job went fine, but we had to reschedule inspection 3 times and it took a period of a couple months before it was done. I did read another review prior to booking that once Aspen got the full payment inspection was something that took a long time and that maybe the full balance shouldn't have been paid. (I still went with them for the product.) I did find that was exactly what I experienced, but it eventually got done and then i had to follow through multiple times to get the actual permit for my records. In addition it was the customer that had to follow up on the face plate and something that took 6-8 weeks, then the "wrong" order was sent and a re-measurement needed to be done. A frustrating process, but the fireplace works well and looks great.

I called and spoke to Chuck and told him our fireplace was not working and would like to schedule an appointment. He asked where I lived and said he could stop by that afternoon. He is a great man and knows everything there is about had fireplaces and was able to fix ours quickly and efficiently. In fact we mentioned we were looking for a plumber and he took a look at our small issue and was able to resolve it for us. All in all very professional and I would not hesitate to use him and recommend him to friends.

Given the impending blizzard, we needed to get our pilot light turned back on in our gas fireplace. Aspen Greenworks was one of many companies we tried to call and one of the only that picked up the phone early in the morning (before 8 AM). After speaking with Chuck and explaining what I was seeking, he was kind enough to offer to walk me through the steps of turning my pilot light back on myself - rather than charging me for a service call given the fact that we will likely need the fireplace heat with the threat of the upcoming storm. He asked me to send him pictures of my gas fireplace. With just a couple of pictures he already knew the make and model of the fireplace I had and deftly walked me through all of the steps to turn it on. While this may not sound like a big deal - I am not a "do it yourself-er" and was worried I might burn my own house down! He spent at least twenty minutes helping me so that we would have a warm house if our electricity went out - despite how busy he was doing service orders himself because of the many people also getting work done before the storm. I was impressed by his very specific knowledge of gas fireplace types (so much so that he could walk me through it over the phone) and truly appreciated that he was less concerned about making a few dollars and more concerned about making sure we would have a warm house tomorrow. I know that this instance is atypical (so you shouldn't call him trying to get services for free) - but I think it speaks highly of the type of company that this is. We will be calling next time we need gas or plumbing services. Thank you again, Chuck! :)

Edited 1/18/2016 after a cool-down period and reflection: Generally, we like our fireplace, but had a disappointing and at times, a frustrating experience overall mostly because of lack of good follow-up/communication. Issues arise; how those issues are addressed professionally is key. A couple items were discussed but lacked follow-through. Customer service needs attention; several emails and phone calls went unanswered. My recommendation: As with contracting any company, do what I did not, meaning withhold the installation fee until your final county inspection has passed and you are happy with the final job. Initially, my wife and I scheduled an installation after visiting their Herndon storefront. Storefront personnel were unreliable. We failed our first inspection; not too uncommon, but how that's handled was key. I called and spoke with Diane and asked to speak with Chuck (owner). Diane curtly said he's in the field a lot and hard to get hold of... but that she would text or call Chuck and ask him to call me. I heard nothing for the rest of the day, so I stopped by their shop on my way home from work and found Chuck working the back storeroom. Chuck emerged and I told him I was extremely unhappy. Chuck, obviously frustrated, told me to go and complain to Fairfax County. ??? Chuck did eventually apologize after he scheduled to come by to address the inspector's findings. He showed up and then scheduled another visit for an upcoming Saturday during which he and his son completed repairs. General: Good equipment is only as good as the complete installation process. There was a surprising disconnect in scheduling the inspections as it took three attempts to obtain a final inspection. The inspector asked why an inspector was not present because, according to him, "they usually go to installations". Chuck disagreed with that, saying that is unreasonable to schedule those in a realistic manner. Maybe, but inspections should not be left solely at the feet of the customer; at least having a contractor rep on site the actual day of inspection makes sense because the homeowners did not perform the installation and so have little to no information should problems/questions arise (as often happens). I'd recommend adding a $50 - $100 fee to cover on-site employee to be available during an inspection "window" to better resolve issues that arise. Some findings: installation was a little sloppier than ideal (and yes, I'll admit to having higher than normal expectations as you'll see below; code is meeting minimum requirements, so better-than-code should be the norm for most jobs). The chimney cap was not mechanically fastened to the flue; of 4 sides of the flue, only 2 sides of 4 were flat-caulked to hold the cap in place. Chuck did offer to have someone look at that and seal it better; I declined, saying I would address it myself.

Response from Aspen Green Gasworks
We would like to address this review and give our insight on this project. We sold this customer one of the best gas inserts in the industry, installed it on the day it was scheduled, ensured it was installed correctly and was in perfect working order then explained operation to the customer and answered any questions they had before we collected payment for the installation. Regarding the inspection, initial inspections often times don’t pass due to the inspector wanting certain things done at their discretion which are not due to a code violation. We explained this to the customer and said that we would rectify any issues with the inspection as soon as possible and we would reschedule the final inspection which we did. The final inspection passed as we received notification from the County. We cannot address why the inspector did not contact the customer when he was at their home. It is ridiculous for the customer to say that the inspection “mysteriously was approved” as any customer can access the Fairfax County website to check the status of their inspection. It clearly states on their website that our final inspection was approved. I will not address all the individual comments made by this customer as it is clear that he is an extremely difficult person to deal with and of course did not mention any of the issues we had with his attitude or behavior. I would ask that you look at our other Angie’s List reviews (23 A ratings) or the testimonials on our website before you consider this review.

My pilot light went out, and I thought this was a good time for a general checkup prior to selling my home. Scheduling was easy. Per my request, when an opening occurred, they arranged to have the tech/owner come by early. He relit the pilot easily enough. He also checked wiring, fans etc.. No a complicated job, but it was done quickly and professionally. I'd definitely use Aspen Green again.

I wanted to post this detailed review since we originally chose Aspen Green Gasworks based on Angie's List reviews. Within a few days of the gas fireplace installation 2/11/14, we started hearing an intermittent vibration/rattle noise coming from the fireplace about 15 minutes after turning the gas on. When the noise persisted, we emailed Aspen Green on 2/22/14 and asked them to schedule someone to come by and check out the fireplace. This turned out to be a significant challenge. Maria's (co-owner) initial response was that she would let us know when Chuck (co-owner) is close to our area so we can coordinate a time for him to come by. She said it wouldn't be that week as Chuck was already booked, but she would contact us soon. On 3/14/14 (3 weeks after we spoke with Maria), we heard back from her. She said Chuck just finished his jobs and that she would look at his schedule and see when he is going to be free. She said it would definitely be within the next 2 weeks. On 4/17/14 (over 1 month), Maria emailed us and said Chuck would be in our area in 2 days and would like to come by after 10am. We confirmed the appointment, with the caveat that we had to leave the house at 11:00 am so we asked for Chuck to show up as early as possible. Well...Chuck never made it to our house that day. He did speak to us on the phone, but we were not able to resolve the issue with the fireplace. We patiently waited for Aspen Green to reschedule the appointment. When we didn?t hear back from them and two more months had transpired, we had to contact them again on 6/29/14 to see when Chuck could come by. After several email exchanges, the appointment was rescheduled for 7/12/14. On 7/12/14, Chuck came by and listened to the vibration/noise and he came to the conclusion that the vibration/noise was caused by the blower on the higher speeds. He said he was going to talk to someone about the blower and get back to us. Another three weeks went by without hearing from Aspen Green. So, we emailed them on 8/3/14 stating that we would like to schedule a date/time to fix the problem (remove, replace, repair the blower). On 8/5/14, Maria contacted us saying that Chuck was in the hospital. At that time, Maria indicated she would touch base with Chuck on the status of the blower and follow up with Regency regarding the warranty. After three weeks, with no word back from them, we decided to pay them a visit at their showroom on 8/26/14. We spoke with both Maria and Chuck in their showroom. According to Chuck, they had a replacement blower on hand. We left the showroom with the understanding that they would coordinate the warranty replacement of the blower with Regency and schedule a time to remove/replace the blower. We thought we would hear back from them within a few days to schedule the removal and replacement of the blower. However, 18 days went by without hearing anything, so we sent them a follow-up reminder on 9/13/14 and asked them if the delay was due to Regency (i.e., warranty work)? If Regency was part of the problem, then we thought it was time for us to take our complaint directly to Regency to expedite matters. Maria responded stating that Chuck was just getting caught up on the outstanding work he missed after being ill for a month. Maria went on to state that they would like their Regency rep (Gordon) to come out with Chuck when he comes to replace the blower. Maria indicated that Chuck's schedule was full that week. Maria said she would definitely schedule something for the following week with Gordon. Since winter was just around the corner ? we asked Maria to let Gordon know our desire to resolve this within the next 30 days. On 9/18/14, Maria left us a voice mail and sent us an email regarding Chuck and Gordon coming to fix the blower on 9/23/14 before noon. I responded back to Maria the same day and told her that I would arrange my work schedule to make the Tuesday appointment work out. On 9/23/14, I stayed home in the morning waiting for Chuck and Gordon to show up. In the middle of the morning, Gordon called to update me on his arrival time. I told Gordon I understood they were both supposed to show up before noon and that Chuck was supposed to bring the replacement blower that he had on hand. I asked Gordon to please contact Chuck and confirm everything. Gordon called me back at noon and said he was unable to reach Chuck. Chuck never contacted me to tell me that he couldn?t make it. Gordon then rescheduled the appointment directly with me ? we agreed on 9/25/14. Gordon said he would bring a replacement blower and the warranty paperwork with him. On 9/25/14, Gordon showed up (alone) and removed and replaced the blower and answered all of our questions. He turned on the gas and everything seemed okay. As of now, the jury is still out on the fireplace. After running it a few times, we started hearing the rattling noise off and on again. We haven't heard it for about a month or so ? we are keeping our fingers crossed. In summary, after 7 months of trying to resolve our gas fireplace issue with Aspen Green, we gave up on dealing with them. They are unresponsive and just plain failed to show up to my home for a scheduled appointment on a couple of occasions, causing me to miss work. They offer great service when you're shopping for a fireplace, but that service seems to disappear once your fireplace is installed. Chuck had no interest in dealing with "service calls." They seem only concerned in the sale, not the customer service. After Gordon came to fix the fireplace, Chuck and Maria never even called to follow up. To say their customer service is extremely poor would be an understatement -- I would not recommend using Aspen Green as the overall experience was very frustrating. To end on a positive note, the Regency regional rep (Gordon) was very responsive and professional. If not for him, our fireplace would likely still be defective.
Description of Work: On 1/25/14, we purchased a Regency Liberty Direct Vent Gas Insert (L540EB) for around $5,200. We were converting our wood burning fireplace to a gas fireplace. It was installed on 2/11/14 without incident. It was after the installation when the problems began.

This customer had a warranty issue with the blower which does not happen often but has to be handled with the manufacturer. We have to schedule a representative to come out and confirm that it was a warranty issue. Unfortunately, there were some delays which we did not plan on. It was the summer time so we knew that this customer was not using the insert. We have never not resolved an issue with any of our customers. We had every intention of resolving this but had to arrange for the rep. to come out. He was able to resolve the issue when he was there but if he could not we would have done it. It is not fair to say that the issue would not have been resolved if it was not for the Regency rep. because that was not the case. When we purchase equipment from our manufacturers we are one of their customers so if the equipment is defective we expect them to handle it because they have to authorize the replacement. We did apologize for the delay in this case as it is our responsibility to take care of our customers. We rarely have defective equipment so this situation is not typical. We installed over 75 inserts last year which worked perfectly and have 74 customers who were extremely happy with the equipment and the service we gave them.

Very quick to take our money but company struggled to follow through on job. Owners acted too busy to finish what they committed to. We were constantly reminded how "far away" we were, yet they claimed to service our area. Would have been happy to use someone else. Simple job took months to get right. Later found multiple complaints about the company. Should have joined Angie's List sooner. Review of "free generator work" can be found under their other company- Bison Plumbing. Better yet, just ask their own installers what they think of the company. Service area comments are laughable at this point. Found some amazing contractors - and yes they are over 45 miles away! Feel free to private message us for referrals. A company that says they are doing you a favor is a total red flag. We found someone else that was able to get the job done as promised - showed up on time, left the work site as they found it, answered our phone calls, they didn't make random appointments on the fly "because they were in the area", were respectful and sent people that were prepared and could communicate.

When this customer came to our showroom to look at fireplaces we explained that Marshall was not an area that we work in because of the distance but we had made an exception for another customer for a simple project that was two houses down from them on the same road so we agreed to work with them because they stated their wasn't another fireplace company in their area that they wanted to work with. We invited them to come to the Capital Area Home Show at the Dulles Expo center and offered them free tickets which we met them with a the front door of the Expo Center. We went to their home which is 45 miles away for no charge for a free estimate on the installation. We installed their fireplace and they didn't purchase an interior panel which every customer we have worked with has so they were not satisfied with the paint on the inside of the firebox. We had someone come out and paint the interior of the box. The other issue they had was with the remote control which we also took care of. Coordinating our schedule with theirs proved to be very challenging and we even made a scheduled trip and no one was home. We realized that this project did not go was smoothly as most of our projects do so we offered to install a $ 1000 gas line to their new generator for the cost of materials alone which we did. We had two men working on the project on a Saturday for six hours and charged them approximately $ 250 for regulators and material. They were very happy to get the free work done but obviously didn't mention that in their review of our company. We regret that this project did not go as planned but felt that the free work we did for them was adequate compensation for this. In regards to the multiple complaints, we have done hundreds of projects for our customers and we have positive reviews from 99% of our customers. Unfortunately, reviews are generally posted by the other 1%. Please read our A rated reviews on Angie's List to see how 99% of our clients feel about our company.

We have two gas log fireplaces in our house which had not worked for a long time. Another contractor who was working on our kitchen recommended Aspen Green. Chuck came to our house and checked out the fireplaces. Then we went to the store in Herndon and Maria helped us pick out the gas log units. They offer relatively few options, but the ones they do offer are very nice. The installation was completed at the scheduled time. A few days later, there was a problem with one of the units not lighting and Chuck came very promptly to check it out. The new units now work very well and provide warmth as well as an attractive flame. Since we have electric heat, it is good to know that we have a backup heat source in the event of a power outage.

Bottom line: good product, but service was average. I went to the showroom and Maria politely explained my options. I chose a model for a reasonable price. Installing a gas log often requires tapping into a gas line in the house, as it did in mine. In order to get an estimate for this installation, we needed to schedule an appointment with a gas plumber. Maria promised someone would call me back later that day or the next with scheduling options, but nobody called. Two days later I called the showroom and finally got a date. The gas plumber (owner of Bison Gas) showed up on time (actually early), explained what needed to be done, and said Maria would call me back soon. After a few days of hearing nothing, I called the showroom and Maria sent me an estimate. On the day of installation two employees arrived, on time, and politely set up tarps and plastic so as not to make a mess on my floor. But then they were uncertain how to tap the gas line and were approaching it differently than the owner had described to me. It took some explaining, but they figured it out. They had to cut two holes in my ceiling, each about 1'x2' in order to tap the gas line. Installation was relatively fast and they made minimal mess. My disappointment came in the end, when they covered the holes in the drywall, but then didn't spackle or patch it. I now have two ragged rectangular scars on my ceiling. I will eventually get around to patching it because I have some drywall experience, but what if I didn't? Most people would have to hire someone else to patch up the mess. The installer gave me pretty good directions on how to operate the pilot light, remote, and flow of gas. He did fail to mention one important thing: you must leave the fireplace doors open with a ventless log to prevent baking the unit. Fortunately, my father owns a similar unit and warned me. I rated Aspen Greenworks as a "B" overall, because once I patch the ceiling, all will be well.

it was explained to this home owner that we would put the drywall pieces back in place but not finish. did he expect us to put a coat of compound on the drywall then return for a second coat and then return and sand and paint. also run a gas line and install gas logs for 800.00 dollars.I should have put it in writing, if he was unhappy why didn"t he call our store, better yet why did he pay the bill on the spot with out complaining.

Chuck never showed up for the appointment. I emailed Maria 2 days later asking why Chuck did not show up. Maria did not apologize but she did explain that Chuck's first appt took longer than expected. Chuck was not feeling good, so he went home. I understand being sick and needing to cancel an appt. However, I a phone call would have been nice. I decided to give them another chance so I scheduled an appt for the following week. Again, they never showed up for the appointment. I never received a phone call or an email.
Description of Work: I went to their store in October to look at fireplaces. Maria and the team were very pleasant. Marie sent me a quote for a gas fireplace insert and installation. In December, I made an appt for Chuck to come to my townhouse to measure and give me an estimate for the gas line installation.

The project went very well. Maria Lagoe was in charge of the paper work and scheduling, which she did efficiently and pleasantly. The main part of the installation, including gas work and electrical work, took less than one day. The installation was supervised by Chuck Lagoe and carried out by a group of three very professional people who worked in an orderly manner and were careful to cause as little disturbance as possible. Unfortunately the supplier had not delivered the faceplates in time for the installation date. They were delivered about two weeks later and installed by Chuck, who then also took care of correcting some minor installation details and explain the functioning of the inserts and the remotes. We are very pleased with the final outcome and give very high marks to Aspen Green Gasworks. We installed the inserts mainly with the purpose of having a secondary source of heating during a power failure, and have already have the opportunity of checking that they work very well for that purpose. In addition they serve to supplement our central heating system in our living room and family room.

This is interesting. Our two year old gas fireplace would not turn on using the wall switch or remote device anymore. I had to reach into the controls and turn it on manually, which was very difficult. The original installer did not return my repeated calls, so I resorted to Angies' List and found Aspen Green Gasworks. I called and explained the problem to the owner, thinking we would have to set up an appointment and spend a lot of money on a simple solution. The owner, however, said that the problem had to be a simple one and asked that I take some pictures and send them to him. He said that it would be a shame if I had to pay for a service call if we could resolve the problem over the phone. So I took several pictures and sent them to Aspen Green Gasworks email and called the owner back. He walked me through several simple tests. After completing those tests and two calls, my unit was fixed and working perfectly. He was so knowledgable and nice and helped solve my problem after about 20 minutes, a problem we had been living with for several weeks. The best part was that he didn't charge me anything. He was just happy that he was able to help solve the problem. This is what I look for in a service provider. He was thinking like a customer, not like someone who was looking to see how much he could make. He knew the problem was simple and he helped me solve it at no charge, even though I had not previously been his customer. The is the best example of customer service, and I'm thankful for Angies' List for being able to find highly rated service providers and to be able to share my good experience with others. Thanks Aspen Green Gasworks!!

Job went smoothly. Installation was done within 4 days from order placement. Sales person was very helpful, knowledgeable and spent the time needed to answer questions and explain options. Installer took away an old log set, installed and tested the new set, and spent time going over the care and use of the set. He arrived on the appointed day but an hour or so outside the window originally provided. He did call after he finished the previous job to say he was on the way. I didn't do comparison shopping for the log set since I had the installer/service person out a couple times before over about 6 years to make repairs to my old log set and knew he did quality work at a reasonable price. I suspect one could get a cheaper log set on sale someplace but I trust this vendor for selling a high quality unit at a fair price. Approximate cost includes gas log unit, removal of old unit, connection of new unit to gas supply, testing, and instruction in its use.

After months of research and looking around, we recently purchased a new gas fireplace insert (complete with blower and thermostat) to replace the old fashioned gas logs. The customer service, pricing, and installation at Aspen Green was excellent--and the end result is a very cozy and warm basement tv room with this new insert....and just in time for the holiday season. Our only regret is that we did not go to Aspen Green earlier! We have found that keeping our basement warm with this new insert has resulted in our heater running less throughout the house. Regarding the installation team--a solid group of professionals the lead installer noted our second story wood burning fireplace had a flimsy flue and replaced it in order to allow less cold air interruption. The team was efficient, professional, and cleaned up after themselves. Dreaming of cold nights near a warm fire? Visit Aspen Green--you won't be sorry.
